Escape to this picture-perfect countryside retreat which sits in a salubrious location in the High Weald National Landscape (Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty). Surrounded by ancient woodland and an abundance of footpaths, it provides an excellent base for rural pursuits and those wanting to explore the coast or the medieval towns of Rye, Battle, Tenterden and Hastings.

As you step inside to the reception hall you will be drawn to its beautiful oak staircase and landing, which adds to the charm of this wonderful property. Enjoy the social aspect of the large kitchen/diner which has bi-fold doors that open out to the garden. The kitchen has everything the chef of the party needs, including a kitchen island, two ovens, integral hob and numerous appliances.

After supper, head to the sitting-room and snuggle in front of the inglenook fireplace with wood-burning stove and relax, read or play board games together. Or if you fancy watching a film, there is the snug/TV room next door.

Upstairs are four good-sized bedrooms, all of which are light, airy and individually styled. The main bedroom with its Emperor bed (6' 6'' wide) is a relaxing haven. It has a large en suite with under-floor heating, a ceramic sink, spacious double-sized shower and a gorgeous free-standing bath with views out towards the woodland. The family bathroom also has a free-standing bath with shower attachment.

Downstairs there is a cloakroom and useful utility-room with plenty of space for coats, wellies and hiking boots. Just outside the back door is a shower, perfect for washing off your four-legged friends after a long walk.

The garden is a real feature, having multiple seating-areas, a fire-pit and a table-tennis table. Two bridges cross a stream which leads into ancient woodland, where you can enjoy the display of pretty bluebells in spring and the Japanese maples, which look stunning, especially during the autumn months.

Those seeking a luxury nature spa experience will be pleased to hear that Ellenhall has its very own wood-fired sauna which sits in the woods making this the perfect place for deep relaxation and regeneration. After soothing the muscles in the sauna, cool off in the open-air, under the cold-water rainfall shower, whilst listening to birds singing and capturing the overall harmony of woodland sounds.

Directly opposite the drive is a five-bar gate which leads into a private 14-acre field with mown paths for dog walks as well as a woodland walk that leads to a wildflower meadow. In total there is around 17 acres of land to explore which is often a haven for wildlife and a lovely spot for an early morning, or evening stroll!

Miss Davy

Beautiful property with everything we needed and more. We stayed with two dogs, and they absolutely loved the private field opposite the cottage, which was perfect for early morning walks. The warm outdoor dog shower at the front of the house was a real highlight — especially after muddy adventures — and was an absolute lifesaver.

The kitchen and dining area were fantastic and fully equipped with everything we could possibly need (special mention to the toaster, which was impressively speedy!). The dining table overlooks the garden and stream, creating a lovely setting for meals. The living room was incredibly cosy; we enjoyed lighting the fire each evening and spending time together playing board games as a family. We particularly loved the dandelion artwork. We also made good use of the snug during the day to relax and watch TV.

The bedrooms were clean, cosy, and very comfortable. A lovely touch was the lower-than-average windows, which meant you could enjoy the views even while lying in bed. The shower in the master bedroom deserves a special mention — easily the best shower we have ever used, powerful and wonderfully luxurious.

We visited both The White Dog and The Cross Inn, which were recommended in the brochure, and both were cosy, welcoming, dog-friendly, and served great food — all within easy reach of the cottage. The wood-fired sauna was another standout feature and a huge hit with the whole family; we all felt incredibly relaxed and zen for hours afterwards.

We highly recommend this property and are already talking about booking another stay. A truly wonderful place to relax and unwind.

Mr Jarvis

This, by any measure, is an exceptional property, and the reality was even better than indicated by the online photos. If you want a well equipped, characterful property with a massive amount of outdoor space then this is for you!

Mrs Hobden

This is a beautiful house, full of character and in an idyllic setting. Has everything for a perfect stay.

Mrs Somers

Ellenhall is a special place - beautifully positioned and surrounded by nature (the acers were just changing colour and looked magnificent). The cottage is cosy and very well equipped so we were comfortable and looked forward to returning after a day’s exploring. It is well positioned for visiting several magnificent gardens such as Great Dixter, characterful towns like Battle and the Sussex coast.

Mrs Brumfit

A lovely spacious cottahe set in beautiful woodland down a quiet lane. Equipped with everything one could want, with bags of lovely hot water. Lovely garden mix of colour and natural wildness - and what a thoughtful touch to supply bird food for the numerous bird feeders outside the kitchen window!
Lots of interesting reading, specially on wildlife and trees.
Only drawback was the lack of light suitable for reading, specially in the snug.

Ms Monks

We had a wonderful stay at Ellenhall. Our party was 5 adults and our dogs. The property exceeded our expectations, the surroundings were just beautiful and the interior was even better than the pictures. The rooms were lovely, well docorated and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is superb, lots of equipment and super cooking and eating facilities. The bedrooms were delightful, with plenty of room and really comfy beds and lovely crisp linen. The only thing we could have had more of was clothes hanging facilities, but that was a very minor thing. We all had a wonderful stay at Ellenhall, and the dogs had a wonderful time too exploring the lovely garden and meadow opposite. We would highly recommend a stay at Ellenhall and hope to come back for another lovely stay.
