Reviews

Oak Tree Barn is a family-friendly barn conversion set within the beautiful foothills of the Quantock Hills National Landscape. It is perfectly placed in the peaceful setting of the unspoilt village of Thurloxton.

This two storey barn is full of character that the whole family will love. The large, enclosed level garden is the perfect for both children and your furry friends to play safely in and it'll be easy to keep an eye on them from the sunny patio. Oak Tree Barn is situated on the far edge of the grounds of Thurloxton Manor and there is lots of space to explore; keep an eye out for the grazing horses, who are always in need of a pet on the nose. The grounds even have a shared tennis court in the adjoining meadow.

Inside, the sociable open-plan living space offers a wood-burner that you can cosy up to while enjoying some TV or a good book. The living-space is complete with French windows so that you can have a wide view of the gorgeous countryside that Oak Tree Barn is perched within. Of course, the well-equipped kitchen has everything you could need during your stay, so that you don't have to go without! The barn is flexible and fun too - the double bedroom is on its own private mezzanine level and downstairs there is a twin bedroom. Both rooms offer comfortable mattresses for you to rest on after a day full of holiday activities.

The owners' friendly help is at hand should you ever need it but you are assured of your privacy during your stay. Their manor is out of sight to the barn and you even have a separate access, beyond a wonderful copse of ancient trees, so that you can have the best of both worlds.

The setting here is ideal for two families on holiday together, as Orchard Barn (3289), sleeping three, is close enough for you all to enjoy each other's company but is still set well apart, so that they do not overlook each other. With their own secluded gardens, privacy is ensured when booked separately.

Mrs Dempster

Our stay at Oak Tree Barn over Christmas was excellent. There was a Christmas tree there, and a few treats from the owner, including some dog treats for our Labrador. The house was easy to find using the directions provided, and is a very good base for exploring the Quantocks. We were very comfortable there, and the heating and hot water were excellent. The kitchen was extremely well equipped, with a good oven and hob, and a decent size fridge freezer. All the equipment seemed pretty new, and very clean. There are two large sofas in the sitting room, plenty of room for 4 plus visitors. Lovely outlook, though we didn't have the weather to enjoy the very nice and large garden. There is a Tesco Express just a couple of miles away and Taunton is nearby for bigger shops. The owner, Emily, was really helpful before and during our stay, very responsive to any queries we had. Overall an excellent stay.

Mr Parkes

This is a beautiful cottage, our second time visiting. The location is secluded in the village of Thurloxton. Easy access to Taunton for major shops and the Quantocks for lovely dog walks and breathtaking views. A lovely quiet place, with nice walks locally and a short distance from other walks. The cottage is spacious and the furniture is comfy. The beds were comfy and the whole place was inviting. An open fire in theliving room if needed, but we never used it as the place was always warm. A lovely enclosed garden safe in the knowledge that your dogs are safe to play. A small gate leading to the paddock giving access to a tennis court, with balls and rackets in the cottage by the TV. Everything that you may need seems to be included. It is just 30 minutes from the M5 J24, so is easy to get to. Locals are also friendly when we met them on our morning and evening walks. Family members booked the cottage opposite (Orchard Barn) the same week, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday. Emily is such a lovely person and so friendly and helpful. A nice welcome with tea, coffee, sugar, cake, fresh flowers and a pack of dog treats for our dog. We will be back again.

Mrs Walker

This is a very comfortable and well-equipped cottage. Our hostess made our welcome excellent, and the position of the cottage was central to the places we wanted to visit. The local pub was well worth a visit!

Mr Nicholls

We had a lovely time and it was very dog friendly. Quite central for touring the major towns. The owners were very welcoming and provided everything we needed. Ideal for those wanting a quiet secluded place to stay.

Mr Davies

The cottage is lovely and because of the vaulted ceiling is a lot larger than it looks in the pictures. There were fresh flowers on arrival and it was lovely and warm with no scrimping on the heating. The kitchen is very well equipped with Portmeirion tableware and a Nespresso machine. We found the cottage very clean and the garden tidy (but the BBQ had not been cleaned by previous guests) and for 2 people it’s hard to find fault. The garden is not fully dog proof as our Jack Russel was quick to show us. As an older couple we found the bath/shower a challenge to get into and out of but the stairs were fine. The double bed is much more comfortable than the singles. The Wi-Fi and TV set up is excellent. The Maypole pub does a good value Sunday roast and is an easy walk from the cottage. There is a great Italian pub/restaurant in nearby Monkton. We had a lovely time and the welcome pack which included chocolates and an anniversary card made it all very special for our 49th wedding anniversary. Top tip - do a day trip to Wells.

Mrs Brown

This is a fantastic accommodation in a beautiful setting. The owners really have thought of everything. The kitchen is very well stocked with crockery, pans, utensils etc. There is a cupboard full of board games, a fantastic chess table and most importantly the wifi connection was great so no moaning teenagers! The beds were very comfy and the fire made the cottage really cosy. The garden was completely fenced in so the dog could potter round on his own without the worry of him disappearing. would not hesitate in staying here again and would recommend it to anybody looking to stay in the area.

Mrs Cope

A lovely cottage in rural location within easy driving distance of north and south Somerset/Dorset coasts. Very peaceful and private.

Mr Urasala

The owner was very personable and helpful. Loved the little touches like the welcome note, big bag of wood for the fireplace, little welcome cake, etc. We will book again!

Mrs Beck

We loved our stay, Emily was a wonderful host, the barn is lovely and it makes a great base for biking or walking in the Quantocks.

Ms Norton

A lovely cottage with good sized enclosed garden (not suitable for doggy jumpers/escape artists). A well equipped kitchen and welcome tray, lounge with, small tv, wifi. books and games, beautiful bedrooms with comfy beds and bedding (ground floor twin and a mezzanine with double bed, no door if privacy an issue), good sized ground floor bathroom with bath and shower above. Well located 5 mins from M5 and A38. We have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

It was a very beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. Great mix of rural location with convenient access to local towns and attractions. A very calming environment. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Mrs Richards

We LOVED our time at Oak Tree Barn. It is in such a glorious position, with so many walks to do from the house and no need to have to get in the car for days on end. There were horses grazing in the field next door, we used the tennis court which was a great asset and being able to walk to the pub in the evening was an extra bonus. I would highly recommend this gem and Emily was incredibly helpful and on call if we needed anything at all, which we really didnt!

Mr Sibley

Oak Tree Barn was a comfortable, well thought out and equipped holiday cottage. Good linen, plenty of towels and hot water as well as a good kitchen. The garden was superb, private and dog friendly. The location is quiet and extremely peaceful yet easily accessible to the delightful Quantock Hills, Taunton, Hestercombe and Porlock Weir (to name a few!) Hauser and Wirth Nr Bruton is truly worth a visit - very special! Emily was kind and provided good local knowledge and the fresh flowers and local cake were a welcome treat.

Oak Tree Barn was perfect for us and our dogs - lots of space for everyone and the enclosed garden was ideal for the dogs to run and play. The owner was very helpful and on hand all week to answer the odd question we had and we had a great holiday. Lovely village and locals with plenty of amenities nearby. Would highly recommend!

Mr Hobbs

Lovely cottage, well equipped and relaxing location.

Mrs Hardman Jones

A lovely property. The Owner is lovely too and doesn't encroach but is only a call away. Our 2 little dogs loved the safe pretty garden to investigate. Such a peaceful place... I've never slept so well.

Mr Smith

Off the beaten track, yet still within a stones throw of the towns of Taunton and Bridgwater, the Barn is an ideal base to explore Somerset. The accommodation is warm and cosy, and the garden is great for the dog (although he was a little too keen to "make friends" with the horses, fox and pheasants in the paddock). The hosts (Emily and her husband) could not be friendlier or more efficient. Not our first time here, and definitely not our last.

Mr Guiver

I would recommend oak tree barn as a perfect comfortable base from which to Explore Somerset .

Mrs Lawford

A cosy, comfortable cottage in a friendly village location. Dog walks from the doorstep, with plenty more nearby, and horses next door made it perfect! We were made to feel very welcome by our host, Emily, and also the friendly locals we met on dog walks. Gardens were private and not overlooked with lots of wildlife. A great week away from it all.

Mrs Mattock

The owners are to be congratulated on providing such a first class cottage, excellent facilities and by adding those personal touches. Keep up the good work and high standards

Very accommodating owners, nothing too much trouble, rearranged the cleaner to facilitate a late checkout, which really made our short break feel like a holiday! Very much appreciated. Cottage perfect for a holiday with dog, lovely enclosed garden. Great tennis court and lovely welcoming touches with tea, coffee, milk and biscuits and wood for a fire the first night. Recommended and would love to come back to explore more of the local area again.
