This was our second stay at Higher Carfew and it did not disappoint.
Higher Carthew is located in a quiet residential area, just a 12 to15 minute walk to the Tate St. Ives and Porthmeor beach - ideal if you have a dog and if you are like us art and beach lovers. It is a great location with a 'wow' factor that hits you as soon as you open the front door and walk through the hallway into the fantastic upper floor open plan living space, complete with fully opening glass door balcony, which comfortably seats 6 people and affords a stunning view of Porthmeor beach and the coastline.
Mrs Letchford
Higher Carthew is a very well presented property. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and wished we could have stayed longer. The contents of the property is of high standard and the view from the balcony was perfect. We will return.
Mrs Davies
What a great place! Couldn't fault a thing! Very clean, spacious, plenty of all the essentials, great enclosed garden for the dogs, lovely little barbecue area, comfortable beds. No issues with noise from the floor above when in the downstairs bedrooms. Few minutes walk to the beach which the dogs were allowed access to before 10am and after 6pm. Walk for a few more minutes and you are in the harbour town. Although the property is close to the beach and harbour it is far enough away that you don't get any of the noise, it is very peaceful and quiet. The views from the balcony are stunning! Next time we visit Cornwall we wouldn't hesitate to book through Aspects and would book the same property if it were available. 10/10 definitely!
Mrs Kelly
A fantastic location with breathtaking views of Porthmeor. Stunning house with all you need for a wonderful holiday.
Mr Ganson
Very friendly, personable service that made us feel welcome and everything we needed for a thoroughly enjoyable holiday.
Mrs Bellamy
Gorgeous modern house with Amazing Views - you will never tire of the views.
Easy 5 min walk down to Porthmeor if you use the lane at the back, otherwise there is a steep hill.
Really comfy beds and the house is well equipped with everything you need. Lovely modern furniture and huge showers.
The balcony over looking the sea and small garden at the back do not get the sun however but there is a tiny bbq area which does but it is up a steep flight of steps so not easily accessible for everyone.
Overall to get these views with parking and easy access to the beach in St Ives is a gem of a find.
Mrs Sandison
A lovely holiday home with the real wow factor! A super spacious living space with incredible views across Porthmeor.
Everything was considered when fitting out the kitchen although more preparation space would have been nice but depends if you are there to cook in or eat out every night!
2 really useful utility/drying rooms. Super comfy bedrooms although a little more space to put toiletries in the bathroom and shower would make things perfect! I’ll miss those views and would love to return when we next have a large group together!
Mrs Banfield
The view from the property was amazing particularly the views from the lounge were really pretty as you looked out to sea.
The House was very clean & had everything we needed for our stay of 6 people. The rooms were all spacious and furnished fully..
The drying room was a real winner as it had a washer & tumble dryer which were both a great asset due to having some wet weather.
On the downside there were a few issues which i feel need to be rectified:
We struggled to get 2 vehicles on the drive and as a result had to park on the opposite side in front of a garage which we assumed belonged to the property.. However, it turned out to be a neighbours garage but when they neighbour called on us he was happy for us to leave the vehicle there.
The property is really lovely but there were a few things which spoilt it which were
1) the flooring was very noisy and due to sleeping downstairs you could hear people walking around upstairs even though they weren't wearing shoes... The flooring needs to be better insulated...
2) There was a damp dog like smell in the main bedroom & the room actually felt damp.. Occasionally there was also a whiff of sewerage too.
3) In 2 of the shower-rooms the water was retained in the shower area and as a result the carpet was damp due to the water seaping out from the glass partition.
4) The lighting in the lounge & kitchen was very dim and there was no way you increase the light levels.
5) The balcony off the Lounge had a constant pool of water of water on it . You could see that the floor level on the balcony was dropping towards the door and as a result the water was not going over the edge but instead running towards the property..
6) The stairs need some sort of bannister... It is potentially dangerous particularly if young & elderly people are staying at the property.

We have used Aspects Holidays for years now and every year, Aspects Holidays have always delivered a reliable, friendly and personable service that has made us feel welcomed and secure in the knowledge that everything has been taken care of to give us a fantastic holiday.
Ms Conkay
Higher Carthew is a wonderful place to enjoy a holiday in St Ives. The view is amazing so no matter the weather , grab a cuppa or glass of something and watch the waves .
Great open living space to spend family time together. High quality furnishings and decor make it easy to relax . Enclosed garden useful if you have dogs.
Our second stay in this property and we will definitely go back again.
Mr Parker
What a lovely week we had. The property was extremely spacious and was more than enough room for seven of us and the dog. The views of Porthmeor beach were stunning and joy to behold every morning. The dog enjoyed the walks to the beach and there's an enclosed park just round the corner if you don't want to walk so far. I would suggest putting the early risers downstairs as foot steps from the main area are noticeable in these bedrooms but not a major issue. The walk into town was fine for us but might be an issue if elderly or infirm. All in all a great place for family and friends alike.
Mr. Saye
Pros:
- Good location
- Nicely presented
- Spacious living area
Cons:
- "sea views" (as described), but not "beach views" - can see bottom half of beach at low tide only
- very limited mobile phone signal in the area
- building works at neighbouring property
Mrs Miller
Just like the Tardis, the property opens out into perfectly proportioned accommodation. We were a group of 6 adults (3 couples) and it never felt like we were on top of one another. The property is very well equipped and the welcome basket was much appreciated. On arrival there was a slight issue with a set of keys but this was resolved very quickly by the Aspect’s Holiday team. I would highly recommend Higher Carthew for comfort, location and of course spectacular views.
Mr Ganson
We have been coming to St Ives for 20yrs and every time with Aspects holidays we always have a fantastic holiday, knowing we are in safe hands and will get great service.
Mrs Chapman
Amazing view
Amazing house
Amazing space that welcomes large families
Mr Tozer
This is a wonderful property for a large family with pets. In particular it was brilliant for our father in law whose mobility is restricted. Parking and everything he needed on one level meant that he could fully join in with everything.
And what a view - rain or shine, it was spectacular.
A brilliant house for a brilliant holiday.
Mrs Ponting
We absolutely loved Higher Carthew, what a beautiful property and stunning view. The pictures online just don’t do it justice, we’re now planning our next stay there
Mr Growden
Fabulous property with amazing views and plenty of space but cleanliness in areas was an issue for us .
Mrs Seamark
Great social spaces for family and friends. Beds were comfy, plenty of hot water. Secure garden. Views from balcony outstanding. Little sun trap on the patio. Facilities are great. Would totally recommend.
Mr Evans
Higher Carthew is a wonderfully spacious holiday property with the most amazing sea views over Porthmeor beach. We will definitely be returning if we can afford the petrol to travel next year !!!
Miss Foster
This property lived up to our expectations and the description and photos on the website are very accurate.
It certainly has the wow factor.
Mrs Brock
Spacious well appointed property with wonderful seaviews with the added benefit of parking for 2 cars rare in St Ives
Will definitely visit again.
Mrs Bird
Beautiful modern property with stunning views across Porthmeor . We had storm Eunice and Franklin during our week there and to watch the waves was amazing. Property is decorated to a high standard with very comfortable beds. Our only criticism was that the stairs that lead to two of the downstairs bedrooms and garden had no handrail so extra safety was needed. Location of property was very peaceful and quiet.
Mrs Drake
We stayed at Higher Carthew to celebrate my birthday. We were a party of 7 and the house was ideal for us. The view and location made it a perfect stay in St Ives. The house was lovely and clean and well equipped. We would love to return again one day and we will definitely use Aspect Holidays again for future holidays.
Mrs Durman
Beautiful house with stunning views.
Have stayed here twice and booked again for next year. Lovely and spacious and we had a very relaxing time. Everything you need is here including parking and a garden which is rare in St Ives. It’s just lovely.
Mrs Smith
We had a fabulous holiday at Higher Carthew, excellent location and views. This apartment had absolutely everything. We took hairdryer and irons but didn’t need them as everything you need is there. Nice little welcome groceries.
Mrs Thomas
Higher Carthew is a lovely spacious modern house with stunning views. The balcony is large so the whole family can sit out and enjoy. The garden is perfect if you have dogs and very secure. There is a cute area where you can BBQ and also sit and enjoy the sun.
The two smaller bedrooms upstairs are quite dark and there is very little storage. We would have really loved a coffee machine so that we could have enjoyed the view with a nice coffee in the morning. We had a very enjoyable week and would definitely recommend Higher Carthew as a place to stay.
Ms Williams
Promised lots, looks beautiful in the photos, however, the house is poorly maintained. Heating issues, faulty microwave, stained carpets, dust/cobwebs, faulty light, faulty bathroom fan and a dangerous bedroom storage unit that was not fit for purpose. The house is in a lovely location, with parking and amazing views, however, we would not return due to the poor maintenance.
Mrs Hamer
Lovely property with fabulous views. Well equipped. Great for active guests but those with walking difficulties may struggle as hills need to be climbed to get to or from the house.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Ms Wingfield
Fabulous home in a great location for exploring St Ives and walks along the coastal paths. Immaculately clean and very spacious.
We had a great weekend , thank you ??
Mr Price
Excellent location but would not recommend Higher Carthew to anyone with young children or elderly as there is no bannister.
Mr Hallam
Lovely property but needs a tumble dryer in the laundry room
Mr Simcoe
Everything you could want for a winter break away, and oodles of space in which to enjoy. St Ives gave us good weather for the time of year and the dog enjoyed the freedom of the beaches. We appreciated our warm hideaway in the hill, enjoying raging fires when the winds began to howl.
With the fire at our back and the sea at our front, Storm Ciara came and went and we felt warm and safe as we watched the waves crashing onto the Island and beach.
The location is pretty perfect and we will return again.
Mrs Warren
Amazing views and excellent location exactly as stated in the property description! Downstairs bedrooms very good but very noisy . Upstairs bedrooms more basic so something to consider according to your family/ families needs! Elderly relatives would find the stairs difficult! Very nice lounge and kitchen and we would book this property again !
Ms Conkay
Wonderful property with amazing view. Great for bringing the family together for quality time in beautiful St Ives.
Would definitely book it again
Miss Muir
We stayed at Higher Carthew over the Christmas period, we all had a lovely time in the house. A Lovely hamper received by Aspects and the housekeeper which was a nice touch.
A big Steep hill to walk up and down to get into the town which is hard work, although a shortcut in the opposite direction down the street is a must!!
Beautiful views, a spacious and comfortable property to stay in.
Ms Pitchley
Just WOW!!! Fantastic stay last week house is amazing thank you
Miss Kiteley
I booked Higher Carthew as I wanted a four-bedroom property to take my girlfriends for a week in St Ives.
We knew the house looked fantastic online, but it exceeded our expectations. We all said 'wow' when we walked in. The views are stunning and the layout of the house is very sociable and great for a small or larger group.
Upon arrival at the house we were very impressed at how clean and fresh it was, with some lovely touches, such as a welcome pack and toiletries in the bedroom.
We took our dogs with us, who also had a brilliant holiday in St Ives, there was nothing not to like about the house - it is unique, contemporary and very cosy and comfortable. It has everything you could need, plenty of glasses, crockery, Sonos system, great smart TV, luxury beds, lovely bathrooms and a great layout. We didn't really want to leave!!!
I have already booked it for next year and would highly recommend - it isn't cheap but nothing worth having every is.
Sam
Mr Nugent
Beautiful house with the most amazing views, had a wonderful week
Mr O'Bryan
This is a beautiful designer house with luxury bedrooms and bathrooms, super open plan upper floor and great balcony accessed via bifold doors, providing wonderful views over Porthmeor beach and out to sea.
It comes at the top end of price range but fantastic break for a special treat.
Mrs Kearns
Stunning property with beautiful views. Three generations had fantastic holiday at Higher Carthew. Welcome basket was appreciated. Very comfortable beds and great showers. A hand rail would be helpful for the less able to access downstairs and garden.
Mr Burns
As a family of 6 across 3 generations we had a fantastic holiday. When you walk through the front door for the first time, you will have an image you will never forget, as I doubt there are many better views in St Ives. There is plenty of space in this property, and actually, the open plan living was a pleasant surprise as it really does allow for more interactions between the family. The bedrooms downstairs are luxurious and the garden area was ideal for Samson our dog. The lounge area was also comfortable with a selection of different style chairs to sit and read or just admire the view. And the balcony with the bi-fold doors was amazing! The only negative I feel I need to highlight is the staircase. My parents are elderly, and without a handrail, and also without carpet, they did not feel safe going up and down the stairs. My daughter was delighted as she had one of the posh bedrooms, but that wasn't the intention. So if you have young children or going with elderly parents, just be aware......
If you go to St Ives you know there are hills to walk up. But the house is close to St Ives centre and there is a cut through at the bottom of the road that I don't think many people are aware of. It makes it a lot easier.
Finally, I'd just like to say a big thanks to Aspect Holiday's for the support they gave on a difficult final day of the holiday. My Dad decided he'd have a suspected heart attack on our last day! But between the Aspect office, the cleaner and myself we kept in touch with the situation and Aspect had arranged for another property for us if we had too stay over. Thanks all - I know its your job to give us a great service, but you did they perfectly!
Mrs Cooper
Excellent location and views and brilliant if one of the group is in a wheelchair. Plenty of space for 8 people. Will book again
Ms Reddington
St Ives is beautiful and Higher Carthew is in a good location to take advantage of that. Very spacious and lovely décor but the property is not very practical for a self catering family holiday. If you are planning to eat out most evenings then the lack of kitchen work surface wont be a problem and make sure the guests that have the rooms on the lower floor don't require peace and quiet. Tiled floor and lack of sound proofing makes that improbable
Mrs Dyer
We stayed at Higher Carthew and could not fault the property. We were an extended family of 6 celebrating my mothers 79 birthday, my mother did find the hill a little steep, but this did not put us off going out. We will definitely book with Aspect Holidays again the process was so easy and the accommodation was just as described.
