This quintessential chocolate box, thatched cottage can be found in the idyllic hamlet of Stoke, Hartland on the north coast of Devon. Within minutes of the coast where you will discover hidden coves and miles and miles of coast paths to enjoy no matter the season. You will be hard pushed to find a better location and charming cottage making this the perfect holiday escape for a small family, a walking couple or a sole traveller looking for peace and tranquility, not forgetting your much loved four-legged friend.
Step over the back door threshold into the cottage that has benefitted from a modern extension whilst retaining all the original charm yet creating a modern spacious Shaker kitchen with views out across the back garden. As you walk into the dining-room the tiled floor continues in this room, whilst small it allows you to enjoy a meal together whilst planning the next day's walk! Lastly the sitting-room is a rather charming nook to retreat to at the end of the day and the ideal spot to enjoy a much-loved classic film on the Smart TV. Vanstones Cottage has character and charm throughout, you can almost hear the history of this cottage that offers the warmest of welcomes to all of its guests.
As the stars come out and the land of nod calls, climb up the steep original stairs where you will discover both bedrooms with original beams, cute windows, cosy beds and crisp linens! The perfect combination for a restful sleep each night. With the cottage being of an age, the owners have invested in a rather lovely bathroom which is located on the ground floor off the kitchen.
The cottage garden provides the perfect spot for a lovely al fresco meal with stunning views of the rolling countryside and from time to time there might be friendly livestock as your neighbours! Lovely cwtchy cottage and in a great location to easily explore Devon and Cornwall. St Nectans church was a gem, so magnificent and a few metres walk away.

Vanstones is a very pretty cottage with a lovely back garden, fully enclosed and suitable for our Boxer dog. Perfect location, walkable distance to the coast with the fantastic views at Hartland Quay. The cottage did have some negative points as it wasn’t as clean as we would have expected, with us having to wipe around the kitchen and rinse the bath prior to use. Minor inconvenience on arrival but not ideal. The TV is listed as a smart TV however it’s very old and streaming apps can’t be updated and therefore did not work. Whilst may not be an issue for some, we do like to watch movies in the evening and the weather was awful one day so we ended up having to purchase a firestick as we didn’t come prepared with any books etc to occupy us. An indoor door mat could do with being provided because as the weather was wet, it meant that socks got very dirty and damp due to having to walk through the small entrance to get to the bathroom. Slippers are a must as stone floors downstairs were very cold and not clean. All above are fairly minor issues on their own but did add up to the feeling that it wasn’t quite up to scratch compared to other properties we have stayed in. It’s a shame as the cottage has so much potential. Overall, we enjoyed our stay but more due to the location more than the cottage itself.

This is a lovely cottage just like being at home very cosy everything you need. Equipment in the kitchen was top quality beds comfortable lovely bathroom. Garden was lovely to sit in and relax and surrounding countryside was beautiful. Would recommend to friends and family and will definitely stay again.

The cottage is grade 2 listed but was appointed with modern appliances but still retained its historic charm cosy warm and very comfortable, the bed especially so .The surrounding area is stunning and if you are prepared to travel there are plenty of places to visit and explore .At night it is very quiet and as I said earlier the beds a very comfortable so after a long day sight seeing you will definitely get a good night's rest
