Reviews

Right in the heart of this pretty conservation village you will find this contemporary inspired cottage with plenty of history. Within walking distance of Lowther Castle and Gardens, the cottage was built in 1770 for the first Earl of Lonsdale by the renowned architect Robert Adam. A traditional sandstone cottage, it is in a quiet and peaceful setting yet only a few miles from all that the Lake District National Park has to offer. Surrounded by gorgeous countryside just waiting to be explored and being dog-friendly, you are welcome to bring along your four-legged friend to share your adventures.

From the moment you arrive you will feel totally at home. The handy hallway is just the place to leave your muddy boots and dog leads after a walk on the Estate to the historic and magical castle. The cosy sitting-room is warm and inviting especially when the wood-burner is crackling and giving out a gentle flickering light, making this a cottage for all seasons. Stretch out on the large and comfy corner sofa, put your feet up and savour some time away from the stresses of everyday life. The charming kitchen is stylish and well-equipped, gather the family around the table to plan tomorrow's outings or cook a romantic meal for two, the choice is yours. Head upstairs to the two delightful bedrooms both with crisp white linen and fluffy duvets, one overlooking the communal lawns and one with pretty views of the wood beyond. One bedroom has a king-size bed and the second has a cosy double bed which can also be made up as twins for children. The upstairs landing houses the Xbox for some gaming fun and a sofa, and there is a spacious family bathroom with a bath to soak tired legs or relax with a glass of something bubbly, why not add some soothing bubbles to the bath too.

Take a step outside and to the rear you will find a secluded patio where you can sit and dine al fresco from dawn until dusk. The boot-room leading from the patio is great for storing cycles and houses the freezer, washing machine and tumble-drier. To the front of the cottage is a large lawned communal area with pathways leading to the castle a mile away. You have everything you need at Lowther Castle Cottage (formerly known as 16 Lowther) including Cumbria and the Lake District close by, you'll love it.

Mrs Taylor

Great cottage, very comfortable, lovely location - perfect for us and our 2 small children. Didn’t want to leave!

Mr Beacham

Lowther castle cottage is a home from home. We have stayed here on multiple occasions and will be back again. The host has certainly spent a great deal of money on the property and is comfortable, safe and clean. Being in the north of the lakes you’re also able to visit the most gorgeous parts of the lakes as well as the top attractions. See you again next year!

Mrs Moore

We had a very nice week at the cottage - a lovely place to return to after our outings. Very happy with the standard, and would definitely recommend Classic Cottages.

Mrs Taylor

Lowther Castle Cottage is in an amazing setting with a lovely view to the front. It is modern and comfortable inside with great WiFi, plenty of hot water and a very useful utility, boot room. It is a short walk to Lowther Castle- well worth a visit and close to Askham where it is easy to walk into the hills. Askham also had a great outdoor pool if you’re lucky enough to have good weather. Penrith is easily accessible by car and the local Parkrun round the football ground is nice and flat.

Mrs HETHERINGTON

The cottage is ideally situated for exploring the Lakes and fells. It’s nicely maintained but the kitchen is on the small side and would probably be a bit of a squash for four people.

Mr Tyldesley

A nice comfortable cottage in a quiet location. Well appointed. Dog friendly. The cottage was warm, with plenty of hot water and a wood burner for chilly evenings. A good base for walking in the North Lakes.

Mr Bowditch

Charming cottage in a lovely, peaceful setting close to lovely historic attractions and Lakeland walks.
