Minstrels
Managed by Classic Cottages
Created perfectly for spending time in together, the open plan living, dining and kitchen areas are beautifully finished and furnished, complete with a wood-burner for those cosy evenings in. Chefs will delight in the kitchen that is luxuriously crafted and equipped with everything you could need. For those times when you want to hunker down with a good book, head up to the gallery where there is a gorgeous snug area to escape to. Perhaps if you are feeling musical, you can live up to the namesake and entertain your friends and family from the gallery - how glorious!
The unique character doesn't stop at the bedrooms; the double room has a staircase leading up to the en suite bathroom. A perfectly positioned Velux window means you can soak in the bath and watch the stars - total bliss. Guests are offered great flexibility in the second bedroom, as the beds can either be set up as a king-size double bed or two small singles. Given there is a wet-room on the ground floor too, there will be no queues in the morning, as each bedroom has use of its own bath/shower-room.
As well as your own private patio area, you have access to a secret corner of the garden, shared with the neighbouring holiday cottage The Smithy, that boasts beautiful views across to Glastonbury Tor. An evening cocktail here whilst watching the sun go down will be a highlight of your holiday. Adjacent to Minstrels and accessed via an external door, is a shared utility-room that has a washing machine and tumble-drier, for which the owners operate an honesty box.
For larger groups, why not book neighbouring [The Smithy (5832)]( https://www.classic.co.uk/holiday-cottage/desc-5832.html "The Smithy") which shares this lovely spot and sleeps four.

"Easily one of our top holiday spots ever!"
Huge thanks to the hosts Jon and Linda who made us feel right at home and gave us the ultimate insider guide—including the crucial list of places to avoid!
We braced ourselves for a "dog-friendly" cottage (which usually comes with a faint whiff of hound), but this place was spotless. Having stayed in dozens of cottages over the years, this one is right at the top of the leader board. It’s quiet and relaxing, but close enough to visit all the tourist hotspots: Glastonbury, Wells, Wookey Hole, Cheddar, Weston-super-Mare, and a monkey-filled trip to Longleat!
Quick survival guide for your trip:
- Don't overpack food; shops in Street are just minutes away.
- Visit Glastonbury Tor after 6 PM for free parking at Silver Street and zero crowds. (Take the Dod Lane circular route up via The Bridey Bell and down the main drag!)
- Check out Ham Wall RSPB or the Avalon Marshes Centre in the early morning or late evening (use the Merlin app if you can't tell a sparrow from a seagull). Also make sure you spot the falcons on the Glastonbury church tower too.
- Book your pub tables early! The Sheppey (quirky, retro, by the river) and the community owned King William Inn in Catcott are top-tier. Gigi's in Glastonbury and Tamburinos in Street are great Italian options.
- If you do Longleat, clean your car first—otherwise, the macaque mechanics will happily strip your bonnet searching for squashed bugs!
Unleash your inner hippie, grab your crystals, fuel up on proper local cider, and get ready for the ultimate Somerset getaway! I'd highly recommend Minstrels and Classic Cottages!
Ms Gilbert
We really loved staying at Minstrels, it's such a beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. Cosy and well-equipped, with so much attention to detail, it's a lovely mix of homeliness and luxury. The upstairs gallery was a great place to sit and read and the garden was a haven, especially during the hot weather. Surrounded by fields and with a view of Glastonbury tor, it has several well-designed seating areas to choose from. We enjoyed meeting the donkeys, goats and chickens in the adjoining field! Owners Linda and Jon were so kind and helpful during our stay and the welcome pack was the best and most generous we've ever encountered. We enjoyed our stay there so much we're definitely hoping to return in the future. Thank you for a fantastic holiday!
Mr Visser
A wonderfull and excellent equipped cottage in lovely Somerset.
The welcome package made us feeling very welcome.
The cottage is ideale situated to explore Somerset.
Mr Raynor
The cottage was excellent in every way. Thank you for the welcome hamper, comprising all essentials and more. We loved the homemade biscuits, scones, jam and marmalade. The cottage was ideal for us and to be able to have use of the sprawling garden with seating area made our sun downers relaxing and enjoyable. We were also able to watch the animals in the next field including donkeys, goats, ducks, chickens and more.
Our week away was very relaxing and enjoyable.
We would recommend Minstrals cottage to anyone as it was just a bit quirky, different from your usual holiday cottage.
Mr Soethoudt
The cottage was fully equipped, there was a great welcome package, the owners are very friendly, The garden was great to sit in, while the dog could run free.
Mr Newell
We were so pleased with our stay in Shapwick at the Minstrels. The cottage is just like a home away from home, and is decorated and furnished to an exceptional standard. The communal garden at the back is really lovely with views over the landscape and surrounded by nature. The hosts were so friendly and we had such a lovely welcome when we first arrived. The location is perfect to explore the lovely county of Somerset and its gems like Glastonbury and Cheddar Gorge. We can't recommend the Minstrels enough and would recommend this location to anyone wanting to stay in this part of the UK.
Mr Armit
A beautiful and quirky cottage with great owners that provide many personal touches as we ll as warm welcome. Ideally situated in a small village but an easy drive to Wells, Glastonbury, Weston or even Lyme Regis. Very dog friendly cottage and area!
Mrs Richardson
Linda and Jon have created a beautiful comfortable and well equipped holiday cottage. The welcome is second to none and they were on hand to help out in any way they could to ensure we had a relaxing and enjoyable time.
The welcome items included eggs ,milk, butter, homemade bread, cake, marmalade and jam, fresh flowers , wine, bag of galaxy minstrels, tea, coffee pods and even a welcome card!
Great to have generous supply of toilet rolls, foil, clingfilm, kitchen towel, dishwasher tablets and tea towels!
Linda was very kind and understanding with any requests we had. Highly recommend!
Mrs Ball
Lovely stay at this cosy cottage. The property had everything we needed and more. As we were staying in December we didn't use the outdoor space but can imagine it having lots of use in the summer. The cottage is well situated for visits to Glastonbury, Wells and the nearby Avalon Marshes where we enjoyed the walks and bird watching. It also has a very good Visitor Centre.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again for longer.
Ms Knowles
We were two ladies celebrating our big birthdays. The cottage exceeded our expectations with a high standard of finish and comfortable furnishings. It was a home away from home with lots of lovely unexpected homemade goodies including a birthday cake for the occasion. It was a shame we couldn’t use the patio garden due to the storm whilst we were staying there in October. This was a short stay and wished we had stayed for the week. Hope to rebook for next year.
Mr Barnard
My daughter and I had a hugely enjoyable week's stay at Minstrels. The hosts were charming and always ready to help. On arrival we found a well-stocked refrigerator (local and home-made produce), a bottle or wine and home-baked bread. The perfect place if you're looking for a place in Somerset to relax in beautiful surroundings. The wood-burning stove was a great bonus on chilly evenings.
Mr Ahmed
Lovely cottage, superb welcome treats. Friendly and helpful owners who were on hand if required.
Wonderful visits to Bath, Wells and Frome.
Mrs Court
Fabulous property with the 'WOW' factor immediately on entry. Everything of such good quality with each room tastefully decorated and furnished and spotlessly clean. Having a fully equipped kitchen with modern appliances and both a downstairs shower room and upstairs bathroom was a real plus, as was the private patio area where we could relax in the fresh air and enjoy the sunshine.
We were delighted with the generous locally-sourced welcome pack on arrival and the birthday card and gift. Many thanks Linda & Jon for going above and beyond with all the very thoughtful extra touches which make a stay even more enjoyable and memorable. We look forward to returning when we next have the opportunity and have no hesitation in recommending you and your top quality property to others.
Mrs Mitchinson

A good location for visiting Wells, Glastonbury, Montacute House and Brean Down. The Avalon Marshes are close by and local walks for the evenings.
Mrs Nelson
A beautiful, clean, well equipped and comfortable cottage in a lovely village setting. The hosts were very friendly, helpful unobtrusive. We arrived to an incredible and very generous welcome pack and the 'hello' card was a lovely touch, all in all a fantastic stay! Would highly recommend a stay at 'Minstrels'!
Ms Abbasi
We had a great time at Minstrels. The stay was very comfortable. The cottage had everything we needed. We loved the welcome treats. The hosts were available to answer any questions. My 9yo son loved that the cottage had ‘hidden spots’ to explore. We visited Wells and Cheddar Gorge. We also did day out to Bath and Cwmcarn Forest worth the visit. Place down the road you can refill fresh milk. We thoroughly enjoyed the locally sourced fruit/veg and eggs. A super holiday, recommended to all.
Mrs Christer
We have thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in this lovely property and especially the use of the extensive garden. The property had everything we could possibly need and we were welcomed with lots of lovely homemade treats. We have already booked again for next summer!!
Ms Desouza
Thank you for having us! The treats welcoming us were delicious. The accommodation had plenty of private indoor and outdoor space to relax together. We enjoyed how kitted out the kitchen was too for those who like cooking.
Ms Clark
Minstrels certainly exceeded our expectations. The cottage was very comfortable and well appointed and the welcome pack exceptional, providing us not only with basics but with delicious treats too. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and the cottage is situated in an area full of interest for all.
Dr Pedler
Wonderful cosy cottage, amazing welcome pack from the hosts including Christmas treats. A great way to spend Christmas!
Mr Rose
The owners, Linda and Jon, are so friendly and helpful.
A great deal of love and attention to detail have been invested in Minstrels.
The wet room is a real luxury feature and the use of the roof space is eye catching.
It's a really cosy, warm place to stay.
We weren't particularly impressed with local pubs fir eating out in the evening. We had far more success using excellent cafes for lunch in Bath, Frome, Beckington and Wells.
Wells Cathedral was awe inspiring, especially the library.
The Avalon Marshes are quite otherworldly and the wildlife is remarkable.
The location was further West than would have been ideal for us fir the main places we intended to visit.
Mr Amershadian
This is a spacious property, with a bright and airy kitchen, dining area and living room making time spent there enjoyable. The property has easy parking. The view to Glastonbury Tor towards the back of the property is delightful. Jon and Linda were very accommodating hosts eager to make visitors welcome and comfortable. Although a small village, Shapwick has a bus service that proves helpful.
Ms Hopwood
This was a very comfortable and well cared for property and is very close to the wonders of Avalon Marshes, as well as close to Wells, Glastonbury and Bath.
Mrs Fudge
We really appreciated the lovely welcome pack. Best we have had in a holiday let! The tip for the farm next door for our children was also much appreciated and the peaceful scenery and spacious, light filled & well organised interior was delightful. We felt truly refreshed from the experience of staying here!
Ms Lawrence
The cottage was even better than expected. The owners were friendly and helpful but not at all intrusive. The garden and outdoor space was beautiful.
We felt very comfortable and the dog loved it too.
mr Jenvey
The details on the website were very aceart, many thanks.
Mr Holdsworth
An enjoyable stay in a well equipped and comfortable cottage, with the added bonus of a generous welcome pack including some high quality home baking. Probably due to our age the mezzanine galleries didn't particularly work for us, the dominance of the wood in the decor made it a little dark and there was a surprising amount of road noise in the early morning. We found the wider area very interesting with lots to see and do.
Mr Webber
Went beyond our expectations the hosts are absolutely lovely and they went the extra mile will be returning for sure
Ms Parsons
We very much enjoyed our stay at Minstrels and would recommend it as a comfortable base to explore the Somerset levels (more interesting than we expected) together with the pretty villages and hills nearby. The treats on arrival were better than any we have ever had!
Mr Dodge
A really lovely stay and a very well appointed cottage. Nice quiet picturesque village and easy to get to surrounding places. Great for exploring the area and even better to get back to the cottage and settle down for the evening!
Mrs Uren
Lovely welcoming property in a quiet location just a short drive from Glastonbury and Wells. The cottage is very well equipped with everything you need. We had a very enjoyable week and would highly recommend to others.
Miss Hughes
Minstrels is a beautiful cottage, well equipped with everything you would need for your stay. Fantastic welcome pack of homemade carrot cake, bread, jam and marmalade also locally sourced eggs, milk, butter and cheese there was also a bottle of wine and bag of minstrels, lovely surprise to find all of these ‘goodies’ along with a hand written welcome card from the owners, such a lovely touch. The cottage itself was fitted out to a high standard, comfortable beds and an amazing walk in shower, the en suite bathroom was a quirky addition to the bedroom, snug area was a great area to go and sit in, gardens were lovely and the view from the secret garden was stunning. The cottage is situated in a quiet area with secure electric gate system, close to many local amenities and many great places to visit. Would highly recommend to others and we will hopefully return to stay again in the future.
Mr Beard
