This wonderful enchanting medieval-styled cabin is only a couple of hours from London, situated on land that was once part of the Battle Abbey Estate in 1066 country. If you're looking for peaceful walks, starry skies and a haven for nature, then this is the place for you.

Named after the wife of William the Conqueror, Matilda's story is told throughout the cabin. As you enter, there is a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need to rustle up a feast whilst you dine at the table and finish with a glass of your favourite tipple on the decking, a peaceful spot and a sanctuary for wildlife. If you are lucky, you may spot a fox, badger, a herd of deer or even hear the twit twoo sound of owls.

As you retire to the bedroom, perhaps choose a book from the curated bookshelf which includes "Matilda" by Tracy Boorman and "Sussex Folk Tales" by Michael O'Leary or lay in bed and stargaze through the wonderful sky light.

Refresh in the shower-room. The beautiful stained-glass window tells a story and reimagines the winding path through Powdermill Wood towards Battle.

Although the cabin is private with its own decking-area, the paddock is shared and situated beside two other cabins.

Leave the car in the parking-area and take the 1066 walk into Battle, famous for its Abbey and home to boutique, art, craft and antiques shops as well as several tea-rooms and pubs. Battle has a mainline station which connects to the coast at Hastings and London.

Take a walk to the local pub, The White Hart Inn or the nearby farm shop and indulge in some local Sussex produce.

Miss Ryan

We had a lovely short mid week break at Matilda this November. We were after a cosy stay, just secluded enough to get away from it all, but close enough to some quaint villages that we could venture out and explore. Matilda ticked all of our boxes. We arrived on a rainy evening, made our way through the field quite easily (even in the dark) to find three beautiful little cabins. Matilda was easily recognisable, as Hannah and Tom had kindly got it warm and lit up for us prior to our arrival. We were so comfortable in the cabin - we didn't want for anything, and the quirky medieval decor was a bonus. We were lucky to have two nights of stargazing, and listening to the owls! Hannah and Tom were amazing hosts: they kept us in the loop about conditions on the field in the lead up to our stay, they offered to meet us if we needed help making our way to the cabin, and they checked in on us over text whilst we were there. We felt very well looked after. You can tell that Hannah and Tom really care for what they do and go the extra mile. I can't recommend it enough. We are certainly considering going back for another short break, and I'm even considering booking up for my parents as a gift in the future. Thank you Hannah and Tom for a perfect holiday!
