Driftwood Lodge
Driftwood Lodge is a contemporary upside-down house with stunning views over the River Dart Estuary. The property has wonderful airy rooms with high ceilings and a superb outside garden space opening up directly onto the river.
From the entrance parking-area, a dozen steps lead down to the main entrance. As you enter the house a beautiful living area greets you with its indulgent wood-burning stove for cosy evenings playing games or catching up in front of the large Smart TV. The magnificent display window stretches to the four metre high ceilings allowing for great views over the river from the comfort of one of the inviting sofas. Settle down with an early morning coffee on the fabulous balcony area and keep your eyes out for heron, swans, egrets and even the occasional seal.
The extendable beechwood dining-table is great for enjoying hearty suppers after long days exploring. At the rear of the living space sits the modern kitchen with granite worktops, range cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher.
To the rear of the floor is the family bathroom and two beautiful bedrooms. Bedroom one has double height ceilings, luxury king-size bed, with room width storage, Smart TV and en suite shower-room. Bedroom two has pastel toned high ceilings and with all the other bedrooms having en suites, this bedroom has exclusive use of the family bathroom directly next door, with free-standing bath and separate shower cubicle.
Venture down the staircase to the lower ground floor to the River Room which is split between a comfortable sitting area with Smart TV, a play area with table football and the Summer Kitchen with sink, fridge, wine fridge and bar to serve al fresco dining on the patio.
Beyond the River Room is a laundry-room with washing machine and tumble- drier. Bedroom three has a luxurious king-size bed, Smart TV, a walk-in wardrobe, a large en suite bathroom with free-standing bath and a shower cubicle. Bedroom four has twin beds, an en suite shower-room and a built-in wardrobe, and overlooks the garden and river beyond and is ideal for the kids.
Outside, the beautiful garden is set up for day and night time fun whether you're dining al fresco, soaking up the sun or simply listening to the river. The main patio dining area is accessed directly from the river room patio doors and has access to two barbecues. Mr Comerford
A lovely property for our family break, with fantastic views!
Mrs Moss
Beautiful location, lovely sitting on the balcony with those views in the sun in December. House was well equipped with all kitchen utensils we needed for Christmas day. Lovely comfy beds and nice duvets. We ended up being 5 people instead of 7, which was helpful as there really wasnt ample comfy seating for 8 as advertised. Drive in is quite difficult as raised stones on entrance, which damaged one of our cars. Would still recommend property though.
Dr Deeley
The perfect spot to be at one with nature from the very friendly robin to the cormorants diving for fish and the flash of the kingfisher. This property is exceptionally well equipped and comfortable set in the perfect getaway spot but close to the sandy beaches of south Devon.
Mr Baillie
Spectacular property, comfortable accommodation, close to shop, pubs and good restaurants. Well worth a visit.
Mr Bratton
Fantastic house in a lovely little village, but be prepared for large numbers of other holiday makers parked right outside the back of the property and the subsequent lack of privacy and noise until the River Shack closes.
Miss Bowes
This place is in an incredible location, right on the waterfront in Stoke Gabriel, with access through the back garden which was excellent -- our kids went crabbing all the time right outside, Lots of other people come there to do that too, so it isn't peaceful -- you'll have cars pulling up outside all day on the front, but it's all jolly, fun holiday noise - not a problem. Nice you can walk to the River Shack cafe opposite for pizza and a beer (the other food there is a bit hit and miss though). The location was great for me as I was researching a book about paddlesports and needed to paddleboard in the area -- I could paddle right to and from the door when the tide was right and took the kids out for sunset kayaks which was incredible. Stoke Gabriel is a gorgeous village, loads to do nearby. We really recommend Scabbacombe beach - beautiful, and no one on it even in August when we visited. Parking at the property is a bit tricky, getting in and out a small drive on a steep narrow lane. We just about managed to fit three cars on. The main let down was the house was a bit grubby inside, and the lower floow was incredibly damp - it smells of damp and clothes took three days to dry down there. Otherwise it has a great space with balcony and very well equipped, just needs redecorating as walls very marked, needs cleaning better - was dusty on shelves etc, drawers had bits in, and a bit grubby round the edges. Still a worth while stay for the location and great garden with firepit.
