Mrs Cooper
We had a lovely week at Jays Cottage. It's small but the contents of the cottage are of high quality. The two single beds are more like caravan beds so a little narrower than normal, but comfortable all the same. The pools are superb, a real bonus and rarely busy. The only downside for us was the lack of dog walking routes on the estate. There's only really a 10-15 minute walking loop so we had to drive to walk him each day. Not a huge issue as there are lots of lovely places to visit fairly close by, but it's a shame on such a big estate not to be able to offer somewhere to exercise your dog. Overall though, we had a lovely week and would recommend Jays Cottage.
Mrs Lofthouse
Fabulous stay in this lovely cottage. Gorgeous grounds and the pools were a real bonus. Excellent.
mr Wilkinson
We enjoyed our stay, it helped that the weather was excellent but even so, it was a nice place to stay and great access to walks and beaches that were quite stunning. Its not overly luxurious but very adequate for our needs. Indoors spacious although kitchen a little small. Very private with outdoor table and chairs of high quality. Low water pressure meant we couldn't use the bath. Location and grounds super, great facilities and very quiet even though there was a fair few guests staying. Food shopping we found the best location was Kingsbridge although the Spar attached to the garage at the end of the road is well stocked with a very wide range of ready made frozen quality food. Lots of secluded beaches and beautiful villages and towns. The best walk for us was around 'Bolt Head' starting from NT carpark close to south beach. Driving on the narrow lanes was a bit 'white knuckle' at times for driver and passengers.
Mr Graves
Jays Cottage is ‘small but perfectly formed’ with a high standard of cleanliness. There is a clear sense of everything being well organised. The grounds are delightful and access to the heated swimming pool and gym a real asset. (The outdoor pool seemed equally inviting but had closed for the winter on the day of our arrival. Thank you for the prior notification of this). Although this was the first time we stayed on an ‘estate’ with a range of accommodation available, some of it terraced, each property seemed to be distinctive and had been laid out in such a way as to offer a sense of privacy. The test is always whether one would stay again and we would happily return to the Colmer Estate feeling it offered real value for money.
Mrs Gomes da Silva
Lovely cottage and the grounds of the estate were also lovely (shame about the wet weather!) the only thing I would say Is that it would’ve been helpful to have more information about the heating schedule in the cottage as the thermostat seemed to have a mind of its own! But only a minor thing. We would definitely stay again.
Mr Holding
Lovely and peaceful cottage with a comfy feel about it the fishing lake would be perfect but there was a lot of weed so made it very difficult for fishing indoor and outdoor pool was a real bonus

1. Jays Cottage future guests note, property much smaller than photos online show, only 2 of us and space was extremely cramped. Beware large coffee table on entering we spent whole week trying to avoid banging into it ! Furniture just too big for such small living area. Website pics very misleading. 2. Small fridge freezer inadequate if you self cater. 3. Access. We encountered difficulties accessing and exiting the property, most especially when unloading car at start of holiday and 're-loading in pouring rain on departure !!! Note front main entrance opposite parking bay for Jays cottage is blocked by 5 foot wooden fence, all luggage has to be unloaded via a circuitous route around part of the complex including the deep gravelled car park, part of an earth track, beware cars passing here, up some steps (tricky with heavy luggage) then under a low archway in a wall (mind your head especially in the dark when security light only works when coming from car park direction not from cottage) , along a path past other holiday lets to a side gate to property. Phew! Access here could be a huge problem for any future guests with mobility \ health issues. 4. Outdoor (large) Swimming Pool. Closed on our first day 10th Sept. What a disappointment. All week it was hot and sunny, who would it have hurt to leave open for a further week, what flexibility?? Classic Cottages failed to let us know about this prior to our holiday. Note: If you want to swim properly you will find the indoor pool disappointing, extremely small with the , temperature of a warm bath !! not refreshing. Two emails were sent to us prior to holiday regarding there being no barbeque at Jays Cottage, this seemed disingenuous compared to the loss of main swim facility during such a hot week.
Mrs Hickman
A lovely cottage in beautiful surroundings. The facilities on Colmer estate are all well maintained. Nice food at the California Inn and a well stocked Spar (that’s more like a farm shop) within 5 mins walk. South Milton sands is a lovely, safe, dog friendly beach with toilets and cafe / bar. There’s also SUP and kayak hire. We loved our holiday at Jays Cottage and wished we’d discovered it sooner!
Mr Lee
Excellent property that delivers everything that was offered by the company. Would recomend to anybody looking for a peaceful break in beautiful countryside.
Ms Wheeler
We had a lovely holiday in Jays Cottage. The property was warm and cosy and nicely decorated and kitted out. We enjoyed exploring the extensive and well maintained grounds of the estate. We used the indoor pool and gym every day - a huge bonus for a rainy week. It was a short drive to several beautiful beaches and there were lots of walking opportunities locally. Broadband access was fast. Thanks for a lovely stay.
Mrs Walker
Jay's Cottage is a comfortable property in a charming setting , we found the indoor pool a real bonus . Being so near to a good pub with lovely food and having a petrol station with a good shop attached was very convenient. I would recommend this property to couples and families alike.
Mrs Spencer
Really cosy and comfortable place to stay. We've had a lovely week away.
Miss Campbell
Had a fantastic stay at Jay's cottage. Was surprised at how well equipped the place was especially the kitchen with quality china and appliances. The owners have put a lot of thought into making it a home from home and spent a bit more doing it. Everything you need is there, even have Netflix and prime if you just want to veg out later. Outside a little courtyard with table and chairs and umbrella canopy which is lovely. The grounds are lovely too, my boys especially enjoyed the outdoor pool which is clean with plenty of seating around and tables. The pub up the road did good food we ate there twice. Didn't take too long to get anywhere so great base to explore. We would definitely go back again.
Mr Kohlert
Colmer Estate was a really beautiful facility. We also used the pool and the indoor pool daily. To the beaches you‘ve to drive only 6 - 7 miles. Nearby there is a nice pub for lunch and dinner and a petrol station with a supermarket.
Mrs Warren
Booked a week at Jays cottage as family of four to explore South Devon, the cottage is decorated lovely, with some thoughtful touches. (Throws provided well equipped kitchen) The pool indoor and outdoors were well maintained and the kids loved having them. A good base for exploring the area.
Mrs Buxton
We had the most amazing holiday! We were lucky to have absolutely stunning weather for our stay and Jay’s cottage really is the perfect location to explore!!! We tried out the pub on our first eve and whilst it’s certainly nothing swanky, the food is definitely far better than average pub grub - so we visited for 3 evenings during our stay as so wonderful not to cook. It’s a great 10 min walk on a balmy evening. There are so many stunning beaches close by (be warned you will need to be there to park by 9.30am if you want to secure a space without hassle!) We loved Bigbury Bay. Taking the steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth and the paddle boat ride is not to be missed!! A real highlight of our stay. We had no idea how beautiful Dartmouth would be and some great shops and eateries there. If you’ve got kids, don’t miss Woodlands theme park for a fun afternoon/day - especially in the hot weather when the water rides were fabulous!! The house itself is perfectly appointed, small but clean. Our only issue was with space for clothes - so we lived out of our suitcase. But really wasn’t an issue over all. The swimming pools were wonderful (though watch out for the horse flies!!) and everyone was very respectful of space whilst still having an amazing time!! We watched 10 gorgeous ducklings grow during our stay and were lucky enough to meet the beautiful sheep too. We completely fell in love with Devon - a fabulous place to stay with friendly people and lovely places to visit.
Mrs Francis
A lovely, relaxed atmosphere at this holiday cottage location. Nicely decorated throughout with good quality mattresses for a good night sleep. The indoor pool is small but we found it a valuable asset on a rainy day and my husband enjoyed the rowing machine.
Mrs Walker
Lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful setting and also providing great facilities which included indoor and outdoor pools plus a gym. Would certainly recommend this property.
Mr Davis
I booked this in January and it was to have been only two of us my son and wife and young child overlapped for a few days. We managed to make this work despite the older two of us sleeping in the small children's room. We all had a very enjoyable holiday at the end of June. The high point was individual use of the small indoor pool via a sign up sheet. We went every day to exercise. The walled garden was very useful for exercise with play facilities for young children in a safe environment. Designated parking bay right by the cottage was also useful.
Ms Bird
All in all it was lovely to stay in such a relaxing and quiet place, we thoroughly enjoyed our week at Jay's Cottage. Lots of great places to visit each day, we want to do it all again!
Dr Nicholson
A very comfortable cottage in a nice setting which lived up to its description and our expectations.
Mrs Stannard Moore
We had a fabulous stay! The children loved the swimming pools, the beds are super comfy, the house was absolutely spotless and really lovely. We loved having a combi boiler which meant hot water for the random shower times after the beach or pool. The Colmer Estate is really beautiful and we all loved exploring. For your first night we can recommend getting a COOK meal from the Spar at the BP garage. We loved Mothecombe, Bantham and Bigbury beaches - Make sure you head to Burgh Island to sample the Pilchard Inn, we had a lovely meal there. Burrator Resevoir is a stunning part of Dartmoor as is Lydford Gorge (we can recommend the Castle Inn). We popped to see family in Looe and have a day in Cornwall and it was the perfect base to explore this area of Devon and Dartmoor. The children are already asking when we can return!
Dr Cummings
We had such a brilliant stay in this lovely little cottage -it's compact but perfect for what we needed. Facilities within the estate were an amazing bonus. Would love to come back when indoor pool open and we can make use of the table tennis table (only closed due to covid restrictions). The housekeeper was really helpful when we had a couple of queries. California Inn pub up the road was fantastic - proper delicious pub grub and service lovely. The cottage is well positioned to be close to lovely beaches (about 25 mins drive to most) but also good driving distance to other activities if you have children: clip and climb centre, Exeter; ibounce trampolining, Newton Abbott; River Dart Country Park. So we weren't beaten by the very changeable British weather! We DEFINITELY want to come back. A holiday of happy memories.
Mr Peacock
Great location to explore area. Nice little cottage. Good for family with 2 small kids or family of 3. Note no dishwasher!
Mr Griffiths
A nice cosy cottage located in an ideal place for exploring Devon.
Mrs Clews
Returning to Jays Cottage which suits me really well.....
Mrs Colmer
We all had a superb holiday at Jays Cottage, the owner's have really thought of everything you need, shame the weather was not on our side, but we still made the most of our time...the scones and cream was a very welcome surprise, as was the milk, all very thought full...only one thing which we asked for, and that was the heating to be put on before we arrived, and it wasn't, took about an hour to warm up, but all in all, a very cosy, warm, clean cottage, which we definatly would like to book again,Thankyou to the owner's for making a tiny cottage so comfortable to stay in, we also felt very privileged to be staying on the Colmer Estate, as it is our surname??!many thanks.??
Mr Shorten
Lovely little cottage in a tranquil setting. The outside pool was a smash hit with my two girls. We would be more than happy to return and holiday at jays cottage again in the future. Absolutely no complaints at all regarding the cottage and the service provided by Classic Cottages. Thank you.
Mrs Ford
A perfect family get away if you love swimming, beaches, crabbing with good local food and craft ales on your doorstep.
Mr Read
Comfortable cottage in a private setting close to all sites of interest in South Devon. Services on site were magnificent. The indoor swimming pool was a lovely temperature. The grounds were lovely to explore. Great location, 20 mins to Dartmoor, 20 mins to beaches.
Mr Hamilton
Lovely location, good facilities on the Estate.
Mrs Brooks
Excellent value as it was half term.
Mrs Smith
We loved the cottage and the quiet, idyllic setting - deep in the country and yet very close to all facilities anyone could want. Would just add a word of caution if staying during the Summer months - watch out for the European Hornets that are all around the area. Unlike other members of the wasp family, they hunt at night and so are attracted to lights shining through open windows!
