The Garden Cottage
If you imagine the perfect retreat in which to enjoy this gorgeous part of south Devon, you would probably be thinking of this attractive detached stone barn conversion.
With oak flooring and red cedar fixtures, the cottage is surrounded by four acres of spectacular gardens, wildlife ponds and woodland which provide a very special setting to look out over.
The Garden Cottage has its own south-facing patio, on two levels to catch the sun all day, with such special views you won’t want to move from this splendid spot.

Mrs Tilley
Very spacious cottage for two people with a lovely secure garden for both guests and a dog.
Mrs Walters
The cottage is now in need of an update and so we won’t be staying here again, which is a shame as it’s in a lovely area
Mrs Jefferies
Some updating of cottage needed
Mrs Cope
A lovely cottage in pretty location with a view over a nighbouring beautiful garden. Need to be reasonably fit if walking to the coast as quite steep hill.
Mr Place
This is a lovely and well kept place to stay. The cleanliness is top notch and you really feel like you’re staying somewhere special. The walk to the beach is long enough to walk off the calories but short enough that you don’t mind the hill. The views are amazing and the private garden is peaceful and beautifully kept.
Mrs Rogers
The location of this cottage is ideal for those seeking a peaceful holiday in the countryside but within walking distance of a shingle beach, with a very nice pub and a cafe for refreshments. It should be noted that the walk to the beach is only for those who are fit and able, but luckily you can drive down and park if you prefer. The holiday is also ideal for those with dog(s) as the garden at the cottage is secure and the beach and the pub are dog friendly too. Beware that the lanes leading to Beesands are quite narrow, so you do need to be a confident driver.
Mr Field
A lovely location but some cleaning aspects were poor. The kitchen needs refurbishment
Mr Juett
Excellent property in a beautiful setting. Great value for money. Close to the beach and all necessary amenities.
Ms Critoph
A great location for peace and quiet, I’ve visited the South Hams a lot and the combination of tranquility with Beesands a walk away (albeit a stiff walk back up) was great…we didn’t need to go far as walks, water and good food were on the doorstep. It does feel private and your not overlooked although there are close neighbours. The kitchen furniture and equipment could do with an upgrade….but the location more than makes up for it.
Miss Cobb
Stayed May 2022. Loved the cottage and location. So quiet and picturesque looking over neighbours beautiful garden. Classic cottages were always great when contacted as well. Thank you
Mrs Farnell
Nice cottage in lovely location. Upside down with living area upstairs which was ok but difficult if you want to eat al fresco as we did but no kitchen tray provided so would have had to take several trips up and down stairs. Private Parking Lovely quiet location. No supermarkets close by, nearest are in Kingsbridge about 8miles. Very close to some lovely beaches, nearest was Beesands about 5mins drive on narrow lanes. Kingsbridge is well worth a visit. Really pretty, shops bars and restaurants as well a boating on the river. Also Blackpool private beach absolutely stunning and well worth the £10 charge to park the car. Dartmouth highly recommended. Absolutely fabulous place we went twice in our weeks stay. Lovely part of the world. Will definitely be back.
Mrs Walters
Lovely location and views but the kitchen needs upgrading, even so this wouldn’t stop us returning because we love Beesands so much and love the peace and quiet that the position of the cottage offers
Mr Hickman
Cosy cottage albeit smaller upstairs than down. Good bath & shower. Garden fine for dogs who don’t need to run around! Yes tight lanes but good spot for visiting Salcombe & Dartmouth.
Mr McCabe
We had very relaxing week at The Garden Cottage.Enjoyed the view of the beautiful gardens surrounding the cottage. We did have the weather on our side.Steep walk back from the beach so would not recommend for people with mobility issues.Beach was good and our dog thoroughly enjoyed himself.Plenty of walks in the area, especially liked the walks to Torcross. Can walk to and from it along the beach if the tide is out but several different walks to it taking in Stokenham along the way. Had meals at The Cricket Inn Beesands and takeaway from The Brittania Beach Hut all good,Sunday lunch at The Tradesmans Arms Stokenham very good.
Mrs Jeskins
Lovely Cottage; excellent facilities and wonderful view of the garden in the valley
Dr Wales
A gold dawn seen from outside the cottage, with the sun rising over the ocean, was a memorable experience.
Mrs Cope
This is a gem of a cottage. Beautifully quiet, only birdsong to hear most of the time. From the patio we could hear the waves breaking on the beach when the sea was rough, which was unexpected but lovely. Some great walks starting from the cottage so didn't use our car for several days. Good take away food at 'Brittania on the Beach' at Beesands, with friendly service and lots of outside space to sit. Visited Overbecks, which is a gorgeous garden with great views over Salcombe and the estuary. Worth using the path through the fields for the last part of the walk to Beesands. Will book this one again.
Mrs Pritchard
A very cosy comfortable cottage in a truly rural location overlooking amazing gardens, offering peace and tranquility. We thoroughly enjoyed our week exploring this beautiful part of Devon and the wonderful coastal walks with our dog. Great to return and enjoy the garden each afternoon. The pub is walkable (40 mins)but down very narrow lanes and then you need to climb back up! The roads are not for the faint hearted as extremely narrow but worth it. The only negatives were the lack of a second sun lounger, seemed a bit strange to only have one. However we will definitely return as we loved the setting.
Mrs Kelleher
The location is beautiful and the beach at Beesands is remarkably quiet and well worth the walk. I think this is a perfect cottage for people who enjoy a good walk, you just need to be aware of the traffic as the lanes are very narrow. There are lots of lovely coastal walks that you can do and the scenery is breathtaking. The cottage is a very comfortable and pleasant place to return to after a day in the fresh air.
Mrs Knowles
This is a lovely little cottage and very close to the beach. However the garden is on the small side for our dog who couldn’t really run about in it.
Mrs Canea
The cottage is situated in a stunning, idyllic place, with views of a beautiful garden (albeit of the neighbour’s) and cows coming down onto the pastures above. Unfortunately the house is a bit run down, and the garden too small.
Mr Jones
Very peaceful few days with our dog in a warm and comfortable cottage. Short walk to the coast path and Beesands but it is over a hill so need to be fairly fit and take a torch. Great food at the Britannia takeaway and Cricket Inn (need to book for the evenings) otherwise best to stock up before arrival.
Dr Nunn
A delightful location near unspoiled beaches and countryside.
Mr East
If you want a peaceful retreat overlooking beautiful gardens this is the place to come.
Mr Goss
The cottage is in a lovely part of Devon. It has a lovely view over someone else's garden. It's generally well-equipped and well furnished. We were disappointed to discover that it's not really practical to walk to the beach along very narrow roads with no pavements and lots of bends. At least it's not a pleasant experience when there's a reasonable amount of traffic and barely space for a car to pass a pedestrian. We were disappointed that there were no garden chairs/sun loungers - upright patio chairs are not that comfortable for relaxing outdoors. And it could do with some form of garden umbrella or other shade - if you don't like sitting in direct sunlight there's no shade at all in the garden area for much of the day. We found the sofa so uncomfortable that we resorted to using our own camping chairs. This was, we think, purely because the cushions had been removed to make it Covid-safe but it is low and deep and without cushions forces you to sit at a very strange angle.
Mrs Osborne
Perfectly proportioned for 3 people everything you needed was there and of the highest standard. The fenced garden was a bonus as dog owners as you had no concerns about them wandering. The area is beautiful & secluded perfect for a truly relaxing holiday. Make sure you visit britannia@thebeech at bee sands
Mr Card
Beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend if you want to get away and recharge.
Mrs Wood
We had a lovely holiday in Garden Cottage along with our cocker spaniel. The cottage is in a beautiful, dog friendly area of Devon which we enjoyed exploring. Excellent farm shop nearby with basic essentials aswell as quality local produce, a lovely cafe and a brewery. Fantastic fish at Brittania on the beach in Beesands.....we ate there a number of times! Happy memories.
Ms Parrott
The cottage was in a beautiful location and very well equipped
Mr Blanshard
Well kept and maintained property and well equipped also. It was a pleasure to spend a week in the property.
Mrs Manners
The Garden Cottage is set in a beautiful ,quiet location ,in a particularly lovely part of Devon. The cottage is dog friendly ,and there are a few local (a short drive) pubs and restaurants in the area. Sad to leave,as there was so much to explore !
Miss Badham
Great location, just a short walk to the beach, cut across the footpath to avoid worst of hill ! Cottage well equipped with great luxury spa bathroom, very warm and welcoming with lovely touches throughout. Would recommend and return.
Mrs Giddings
It may be helpful to other visitors if you mention the shower is over the bath, and not in a shower enclosure. It is quite a high bath and maybe a big difficult for someone with mobility problems.
Mrs Lever
The holiday started the afternoon we stepped into the grounds of The Garden Cottage. The scenery and abundance of wildlife did not disappoint. Retiring to the cottage at the end of the day was a pleasure with everything you need. A well deserved rest was had by all.
Mrs Lawrence
Garden cottage is lovely and very well equipped. The kitchen has everything you need. The garden is outstanding and is a beautiful Devon garden with stream, lake and lawns. The main feature is the planting . It was a joy to see the beautiful plants. The garden is huge and so well cared for. Although walking to the beach is easy, coming back is very steep and I found I needed the car on the return journey. My husband could walk back being fitter than me. However, plenty of car parking at beach so it wasn’t a problem. Good fish and chips at beach. Supermarkets (Tesco Morrisons) in Kingsbridge We had a lovely week in the garden cottage and saw a lot of beautiful Devon
Mrs Kempston
Liked the location with the gardens.
Mr Ross
A beautiful cottage set in a large and secluded garden - a haven of peace and quiet
Mrs Dalton
A beautiful, quiet hideaway.
Mrs Loughan
The cottage lovely and the gardens absolutely stunning, highly recommend.
Mr Kirby
Bring enough food for a week as driving down the narrow lanes to get provisions is not for the faint-hearted.
Mr Booth
Lovely cottage in beautiful part of Devon. Quiet, relaxing and short walk to the beach. Lovely.
Mr Nussle
Well worth the stay for beautiful surroundings, comfort and total peace. A gem. Classic Cottages we would highly receommend for both service and the properties advertised in their brochure. An all round pleasure.
Mr Bonner
The cottage was warm and very comfortable. An excellent place to return to after a day out. The views of the garden were stunning and a bonus when the weather was warm enough for breakfast on the terrace, a super start to any day.
Mrs Northam
Lovely cottage, in a perfect location, peaceful with an amazing outlook over a beautiful garden. Short walk to the beach with two excellent eating places.
Ms Hamilton
Wonderful views. Nice & comfortable furniture and bed. Well stocked with local information. Kitchen equipment plentiful and good. Overall very happy with the cottage Nice touch to arrive with tea and cake laid out.
Mrs Crook-Stanley
We had a lovely stay in The Garden Cottage. Ideally situated to explore the surrounding coast line, it made for the perfect little bolt hole to which to return after a long day's walking; where the jacuzzi style bath was especially appreciated to sooth away those aching legs ! Well equipped, this cosy little cottage also enjoys the added bonus of sitting within several acres of glorious gardens - leaving you torn between a day on the terrace enjoying the tranquil setting - or heading down on to the coast path and beach - just minutes away. Couldn't really fault it as a base from which to explore this beautiful part of Devon.
Ms Howell
This was out third stay at this delightful cottage, the last time being six years ago, but it was just as we remembered - perhaps even better! We love the location overlooking the lush garden. My husband is a keen naturalist and ran a moth trap every night of our stay and was delighted to observe several species which were new to him - a real bonus!
Mr Nunn
The grounds are the best we have found on our holiday jaunts. When various tourism awards are dished out, The Garden Cottage should be made number one.
Mr Idle
An absolutely stunning location, peace, solitude and a beautiful outlook, highly recommended.
Mrs Buckerfield
We really enjoyed our stay at The Garden Cottage and plan to go back next year. The location is great to explore South Devon, there is so much to see & do without having to travel miles. The South West coastal path is within walking distance of the cottage & the scenery is beatiful.
Mr Garner
Excellent location with stunning views. Very comfortable accomodation. Excellent pubs nearby.
Mr Broom
Lovely quiet area within easy reach of places to visit such as Dartmouth and Brixham. Had a wonderful time.
Mr Kerrigan
This was our second holiday at the garden cottage , great location ,just far enough away from the main tourist spots but within walking distance of the local pub by the beach . and fish restaurant / cafe .
Mrs Hardy
This is an impressive cottage in a peaceful and beautiful part of Devon. It is ideally located in its own grounds yet within walking distance of the coast at Beesands.
Miss Collicutt
The garden cottage is a beautiful, tranquil retreat with sea views and is set in a lush garden. The perfect place to unwind. Many lovely places to explore nearby where you can try a cream tea or the local fish & chips. Dartmouth, Salcombe and Totnes are all within an easy drive.
Dr Clark
The Garden Cottage is delightful. Wonderfully well appointed and equipped, beautiful grounds, even a distant view of the sea from the kitchen window! We had a great stay. A visit to the Britannia @ the Beach Cafe and the Cricket Inn in Beesands is highly recommended.
Mr Crone
Very quiet and comfortable "upside down" cottage located in lovely gardens with great views. A good location for visiting Plymouth, Kingsbridge, Dartmouth ,Salcombe and Totnes within an hours drive.
Mr Jones
A wonderful setting in a beautiful area. The cottage was cosy and very comfortable. An ideal base for 2-3 people.
Ms O'Hora
Garden cottage is a lovely "upside down" cottage in a beautiful rural location. We were made very welcome and the cottage was a fabulous base for exploring the nearby towns such as Dartmouth and Kingsbridge. The beach is a 1 mile walk away down hill, which of course means it's up hill on the way back! This is the place to go if you want peace and quiet away from it all. Some fabulous walks nearby on the South West Coastal path. The cottage was spotless and was perfect for two of us although it comfortable sleeps three. It is very remote and the Devon lanes took some negotiating!
Mrs Martin
A lovely property, the gardens are outstanding, we were able to relax in the gardens in the sunshine and had a lovely time.
