Reviews

High Lea is a beautifully refurbished family house, nestled in the heart of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and boasting the most breathtaking and unrivalled sea views. This fabulous holiday location offers you everything you could wish for from a coastal holiday home.

High Lea is perched overlooking the beach at Bigbury-on-Sea; a five minute downhill stroll finds you surrounded by golden sand, rock pools galore and rolling waves – there's something for everyone, absolute heaven! However, please remember what goes down must come up, therefore it is suggested that anyone who is not wishing to walk back up the hill (which is a distance of 400 yards) takes advantage of the car park which is readily available at the bottom of the hill, in front of the beach. High Lea has been designed and decorated with careful thought and precision. The large glass windows and patio doors ensure that the stunning sea view is always on display from the open plan living areas, making stepping out onto the decked-area irresistible – especially when the stunning sunset appears.

When the evenings get a little cooler, the charming wood-burner is ready and waiting to create a super-cosy and snuggly environment. All this in one package and, the best bit is, your four-legged friends are also welcome!

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Forth

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at High Lea and found it to be a very comfortable, well equipped, attractive cottage overlooking the sea. It was very easy to make ourselves at home, and it suited us extremely well. We would definitely stay here again; the cottage is in a very good location with great views.

Mrs McArthur

Fantastic views and a lovely property. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay High Lea - thank you!

Mrs Taylor

Wonderful views from the property and very comfortable.

Mrs Allen

The cottage and the views are outstanding. Normally I like to book a different cottage each time I go on holiday but I would quite happily book this one again. The field above the cottage was an added bonus for walking the dog.

Mrs Verghese-Dipple

Cottage was great overall as we hadn't rented one for a long time. Thd main problem with website is that it's impossible to know where the cottages are located and i don't have time to look them up! There is a description but no Map so we had no idea where some places were - especially in relation to nearest Town, Station or road so part map next to each property would help and in each county.

Mrs Davis

This property is a gem. It is exactly as the description with amazing sea views, it is nicely refurbished and generally has a very good feel about it. There is also a pretty enclosed garden and we were lucky to time it when the Bluebells were in flower. The beach is huge so perfect for long dog walks and the grassy field close by were handy for the dog. We never go back to the same location/property twice but we are not ruling out coming back to High Lea.

Mr Walker

Wonderful place, location and amenities. No hesitation to book again.

Miss Arnold

Lovely cottage in a great setting. Perfect for quick access to the beach - a short walk down the road. Great grassy dog walks above the property straight onto the coastal path with great views over the sea and Burgh Island. Only downside was we went first week of January and everything but the one cafe in the day and the main hotel on Burgh Island was shut so meant driving to Kingsbridge for supper!

Mrs Broughton

Great location, Burgh Island and the beach are great. Not so good if you struggle to walk - steep hill, lots of steps around the house. Comfortable beds, open living space, basic essentials provided. Lovely view from the garden of the sea. Would have been better if outside furniture had cushions and less rickety.

Mrs Jones

Lovely holiday home, loved the open plan kitchen was well equipped for cooking and the view over Bigbury-on-Sea from garden was beautiful.

Mr Turner

There is no denying this property has the most beautiful view and is attractively designed internally. Unfortunately that’s where the positives end. We were left very frustrated during our fortnights stay due to various faulty aspects within the property. The main issue we had was almost non existence WiFi for the entire time. We spoke with Classic Cottages at the beginning of our holiday to inform them of the issue but it still wasn’t sorted once the holiday ended. This isn’t a cheap property to hire, even out of season, and the quality we experienced was well below par. Presently, Classic Cottages haven’t answered our email of complaint.

Mr Robson

We have stayed at High Lea before and liked it so much we wanted to come back. We loved the new extension which provides a seating area with glorious views. Overall the house is fitted out to a very high standard, and we like the location for easy access to the footpaths, and just five minutes walk down the hill to the lovely beach area. The island, the walks, the beach, the excellent pubs (Journeys End and Pilchard Inn) plus morning coffees at the Venus Cafe kept us very happy!

Mrs Booker

Fabulous property. Really clean and the garden was perfect for the dogs. The sea view was amazing.

Mrs Tipp

Great location and lovely space. Could do with a bit of maintenance / TLC.

Mr Morley

A lovely house with beautiful views out to sea. A steep hill to walk back up but there is a car park. the tide times are published daily for the sea tractor visiting Burgh Island.

Mrs Beard

The cottage was modern and spacious. The view was fabulous, even on a wet and windy day. The road down to the beach was a 5 minute walk, but it was a very steep up hill walk. I would highly recommend this cottage if you want a peaceful break.

Pam Barton

Excellent property. Very relaxing stay. Stunning view. Convenient for the beach.

Mrs Heard

Excellent

Mrs Cairrao

An amazing beautiful cottage with amazing views.

Mrs MacDonald

Excellent location but be wary of the hill. The area is beautiful and one needs to get in provisions as there is only one road in and out. The garden is fully dog proof which we were extremely grateful for as we have one that can find a hole any where to get through. The house is lovely albeit needs a bit of TLC.

Mrs Best

Superb views from this lovely property

Mrs Blake

Gorgeous house with outstanding views down to the sea and Burgh Island. An easy 5 min walk to the glorious beach (and the coffee hut) Lovely sunny garden from early morning until late in the afternoon/evening. Comfortable and well equipped with lots of hot water and some nicely touches like blankets, as we do like a blanket.

Mrs Shroeder

High Lea is a comfortable cottage in a quiet street with absolutely stunning views. Our dogs loved the fully enclosed garden & the fact that the bi fold doors were constantly open! We ate practically every meal outside. The proximity to a great beach was a big bonus, the climb back up the hill was not too bad but we used the car park a couple of times due to the heat & our elderly dog , a useful hint is to ‘park’ your car online just before you head down as the meter was cash or by phone only & the signal was bad. Recommend the coffee from the beach barista van down near the causeway . We didn’t venture too far afield as the cottage & garden & beach were all we needed for a perfectly relaxing week. We’d love to return one day. Thank you again Classic for a great find!

Miss Adams

High Lea was a real pleasure to stay in - the place was spotlessly clean and facilities were great. The view over the harbor from the garden was beautiful and I enjoyed sitting on the patio and painting the scene. It was peaceful and very relaxing

Dr Boyes

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area. A short walk to the beach with plenty to entertain everyone for a summer week. The views from the terrace are lovely.

Mrs Lee

High Lea is fabulous place to stay. So handy being only 5 minutes walk from the beach and with 3 places to eat and lots of lovely walks it was the perfect place for us with our 3 children and 2 dogs. The house has everything you need and the views from the garden are amazing.

Mrs Francis

The cottage was at the top of a very steep road which was not mentioned in the details

Mrs Hulme

We had a fabulous week at High Lea Cottage. The location is perfect ... a short walk down to the beach where there are loads of water sports available. Our Son (13) had surfing lessons everyday which was fantastic. Some beautiful coastal walks to some great pubs. The view from the property is stunning. You could sit all day just watching the clouds move, sea change colour and the activity down at the beach. It was truly wonderful. Thane-you so much.

Mrs Walters

Best views we have ever had from a holiday cottage

Mr Parrott

View is outstanding but needs lots of TLC internally and externally ...Poor cleanliness, stained settee and attention to guests needs especially fridge needs addressing..

Mr Robson

The cottage is immaculately maintained with great layout, good equipment and a nice garden. There are lovely walks and beautiful views. We thoroughly enjoyed our winter stay and intend to return!

Mrs Colby

Superb location, loved staying there.

Mrs McManus

Lovely property in wonderful location with stunning views! Would definitely return

Mrs O'Brien

We have booked for next year

Mr El-Shaer

can't get tired of the amazing view!

Miss Rajeebally

Lovely house. Beautiful views. Beautiful location. Enjoyed our surf lesson - the school was located right by the beach. Walks in the area on the Coastal path were stunning,

Mrs Chantry

The property exceeded our expectations. It was beautifully furnished and well equipped and the view from the garden is addictive! It is nearer to the beach than we imagined and was a very easy amble down (even loaded with beach equipment)! We had an absolutely wonderful stay at High Lea and will definitely be back for another holiday here! Thank you

Dr Amir

The views were better than expected based on the photos. We hope to come back in the warmer months.

Mrs Bloodworth

Great cottage, superb views, high standard of cleanliness. Disappointing that the walk-in shower did not function and the effluent in the front garden.

Mrs Gregory

On the whole, we had a wonderful break. However, the plumbing needs sorting at this property as my husband had to fix the plumbing air locks daily, showers were interrupted at ALL uses by air locks and we did need the plumber to come to the property who told us that the problem was known to the management company and presumably, the owners. The bath plug was very slow to empty.... on further inspection , this was due to a mass of hair in the plug hole which I cut out with my own scissors. The cleaner hadn’t checked this despite the ‘get out by 9am, come in after 5pm‘ for DEEP CLEANING. I don’t think so. The property was ok cleaning wise but not deep cleaned. Cobwebs happen over night, I understand that but for them to have thick dust on them around the bookcase and coasters with tea stains that’s not a deep clean in our eyes. However, bedding, floors etc, pots and most areas were clean. It was minor... apart from the bath plug hole, that wasn’t pleasant! I feel the property should also be advertised as at the top of the hill. Anyone with mobility difficulties would find the walk difficult and need to use a battery scooter or car to get to the beach. The tv was also an issue for us as there was no signal for terrestrial tv. We were out all day but in the evenings, it would have been nice to actually watch the news live and relax. Netflix was the night entertainment which some would love but it’s not for us. This may seem like a minor issue to you but our daughter has autism and it really was not minor. The home was beautiful. Beautiful views, tastefully furnished and otherwise well equipped for our needs. Just a couple of niggles.

Mr Ashley

High Lea at Bigbury on Sea is a gem for those looking for a quiet peaceful holiday with great views from the garden and access to lovely walks either along the coastal paths or along the beach. Facilities in the area are limited (take essentials) with additional Supermarket shopping available in Kingsbridge, etc. Hope for good weather.

Mrs McArdle

Fabulous views and garden. Home from home. Very comfortable with all amenities required.

Mrs Saunders

This cottage is beautiful, such a lovely relaxing place to stay! The view is stunning and would definitely return to this property. You will need to take provisions as there are no shops nearby.

Ms Savage

Totally relaxing, invigorating, wonderful place to recharge all human batteries and to allow your dogs to have a amazing holiday! Thank you High Lea xx

Mr Ashley

High View is a lovely holiday property with good views and comfortable accommodation. It has easy access to the beach, which is superb. Take supplies as there is no immediate access to a suitable shop.

Mrs Ridgeway

Fantastic cottage in an amazing, peaceful location with fabulous views of the beach. Perfect outdoor seating area to enjoy. The cottage is well equipped with good quality items. We've visited Bigbury on Sea for 7 years and loved this stay so much that we have requested to book for next year already!

Mr Payne

Great location once you arrive at the warm and cosy cottage, lovely walks on your doorstep, fabulous views out across the bays.

Mrs Kerssemakers

This is a lovely property in a fantastic location. It is comfortable and has a very relaxing atmosphere. The views are spectacular rain or shine.

Miss Dale

Fabulous view, great location and had a very enjoyable and comfortable stay at High Lea. We really enjoyed watching the surfers and paddleboarders at Bantham through the binocs which were provided. Looking forward to trying in the warmer months

Mr Seath

Great accomodation in a wonderful location gave us the most relaxing break we’ve had in years.

Mrs Waterhouse

Fantastic cottage with amazing views of Bigbury Bay. It was clean, well furnished and equipped, warm and comfortable. Ideal location for exploring the South Hams region and coastal path. Definitely one of the best cottages we've stayed in.

Dr Impey

This was a lovely well equipped place to stay and the views from the garden were just amazing. We had a wonderful holiday at High Lea.
