Mrs Clemens

This is by far the nicest holiday cottage I’ve ever stayed in on Dartmoor and I’ve stayed in a lot ??. The owners are lovely, friendly and understanding. It was amazingly well equipped and spotlessly clean, bedding high quality and so so comfortable. Location is amazing, easy to get to and direct access to the moors. Can’t wait to return later this year.

Mr Heriz-Smith

The owners are very approachable and friendly (as are their dogs). The setting is quiet, remote, ideal for access to the whole of Dartmoor and towns at the edge of the moors. The woodburner is ideal for those grimey days when you really want to stay tucked-up. Although the owners home is nearby, you really wouldn't know - unless you have a problem or want the latest advice on places/pubs to visit! (they are really positive and approachable). Even though we have been holidaying on Dartmoor for many years, we found some new (to us) pubs and places to explore.

Mr Potts

Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a great location with friendly helpful hosts. With two boys and a dog we all enjoyed great walks up the Tors or along the river Dart. There are lovely pubs and cafes a short drive away too. First visit to Dartmoor and we're missing it already!

Mrs Warburton

Shippon is located in one of the most lovely parts of Dartmoor. Away from it all but not far to local villages . Ponies, deer and highland cattle wandering around . Walks from the doorstep and the most lovely garden to sit and ponder in. The garden is also very secure so your dog can enjoy the freedom. The cottage itself is spacious and clean and has everything you will need. Very comfy beds ! The owners go above and beyond to make sure you have everything and are comfortable but without being intrusive . Beautiful cottage we absolutely loved it .

Mrs Collier

We spent a wonderful 2 weeks here and Tracey and Steve were wonderful hosts. The barn was extremely comfortable and they have thought of everything you would need to make a stay perfect, a real home from home. We would definitely recommend as the location is amazing! Thankyou both!

Ms Spain

A fantastic place to stay in a wonderful location. Really spacious with all modern cons and welcoming owners.

Miss Price

A fantastic cottage to stay in if you want direct access to the moors. The owners are on hand to assist with any questions but also respect your privacy. A beauty, comfortable cottage. We love it here.

Dr Williams

Lovely renovated stone cottage, well equipped, comfortable and with direct access to the moors it provided a great location for us to explore the area. Steve was a good host, knowledgeable and helpful.

Mr Heriz-Smith

The owners, the cottage, the setting are ideal for a get-away (long or short) with easy access to the moors, The Hams, Tavistock. The peace and clean air around The Shippon are inspirational and just what is needed if you want to get away from it all. Friendly owners make a perfect package.

Mrs Lawson

2nd visit, The cottage is just perfect,.. picture postcard, quirky, comfortable and welcoming. It is also in the perfect spot at the centre of Dartmoor for walking and exploring. The owners are lovely. We hope to return again and again, can't fault it.

Mr SUCKLING

Went in July / August for a week with a family of 4 + dog. Cottage was perfect. Lots of walks, wild ponies & deer. Beautiful scenery. Weather was pretty wild at times but cottage was warm & cosy and had everything for cooking being comfortable etc. Would definitely go again.

Mrs Warners

Very pretty and clean house, the surroundings are unbelievable: when you look out the window, there’s Sharptor, right at your doorstep. Looks like a picture but it’s real! Great for walking, lots to see and discover. Our boys and dog loved it here too. Owners are very friendly and helpful. No neighbours so very quiet. Would love to come and stay again some day.

Miss Morris

What a wonderful week in Dartmoor! Blessed with super hot weather, we spent every day exploring the moor, from north to south (Chagford village is gorgeous), east to west (don't miss Lydford Gorge) and all the nooks and crannies in-between. Steve, the owner, does a gentle 'meet and greet' and is on hand if you have any questions or need anything. He's very down to earth, has a great sense of humour and is just a lovely bloke with a good heart. He shares a stunning thatched cottage opposite The Shippon with his partner, Tracy, but you'd hardly know they were there... We booked The Shippon due to its proximity to Bovey and Craft Festival 2023, an incredible arts event we attend almost every year, but The Shippon offered us so much more... Such a beautiful location. We loved the wild orchids in the meadow, the stunning view of Sharp Tor and the surrounding area, the walks from the back gate, the ponies and deer across the Moor, and the little cuckoo who visits the garden daily. And inside, we had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Spotlessly clean, this rather funky Shippon conversion is rather special. With a slightly 70s vibe, super squishy sofas, a steep, wooden staircase that makes you feel like a child climbing up to a treehouse at bedtime, The Shippon will tug at your heartstrings and you'll probably find it difficult to leave. Ashburton is a lovely little town packed with a supermarket, eateries, antiques and gift shops and is just a hop and skip from Oldsbrim. So, although The Shippon feels wonderfully remote, that's a little magic trick! Widecombe in the Moor is a delightful village for a wander, and at just 15 minutes away from the Shippon, The Cafe on the Green is perfect for breakfast or lunch. Every meal we've had there has been excellent. The Warren House Inn is another great place for a meal with a view. At 1425ft above sea level, it's the highest pub in southern England, with fabulous view across Dartmoor. On a very sunny, very hot afternoon, it's a superb place for a cold beer and a pasty. The Shippon provides a great base if you wish to explore the delights of Dartmoor by car, or fill your days with walking trips, pony trekking (The Shippon has it's own stables if you wish to bring your horse!), or you just want to chill out in the garden with a good book and a great view! We'll be back...

Dr Britten

The Shippon is a beautifully appointed, immaculately clean cottage with a well equipped kitchen and dog friendly garden and field. The owners (who live next door) are incredibly hospitable if needed, but otherwise afford guests privacy. It’s back gate leads directly onto the Moors without going onto the road. Lovely and warm inside (during a cold spell). Sustainable ethos. A perfect retreat in every way.

Miss Price

If you want to explore Dartmoor, this is the cottage for you. We loved it and so did the dogs. Steve is a great host, full of information and great walk tips. Hopefully we'll return in 2024.

Mr Hack

A very enjoyable stay in a beautifully renovated cottage in a superb location on Dartmoor. Very friendly reception from the owners, Steve and Tracey. Highly recommended.

Ms courault-bodi

the cottage is perfect, you don't miss anything, it is very well decorated, you really feel good there! the nature around is beautiful. Steve and Theresa are very caring and helpful, we loved our stay!

Mr Heriz-Smith

Magnificent conversion quality and layout. We really cannot find anything of which to be critical. We enjoyed a couple of warm autumn days that tempted us to the garden table at the top of the garden to eat and take in the setting. The views locally are great and access to this part of Dartmoor opened up areas we had not visited in years of using other cottages. So, mix in with that the really lovely owners and the package is complete. We have already boooked in for next year's autumn.

Ms Nolan

The shippon is a gorgeous property in a wild and stunning location on the moor. There are moorland walks, tors and wildlife to explore right from your door and some fabulous country pubs nearby. We visited in summer but I would love to see it in winter with the cosy fire and Aga. Highly recommended.

Mr Moore

The place was spotlessly clean, comfortable beds, very good showers with lots of hot water and very well equipped. The place stayed lovely and cool during the heat wave so no problems sleeping at night. Bliss. Steve the owner was such a good host, on hand but never intrusive. The picnic table complete with gazebo was wonderfully private and placed to take in the glorious views. We spent lots of time eating and drinking here in the hot weather as it caught the very welcome breeze. The wild flower area here must be stunning when in bloom. Fully intend to return either in the Spring or Autumn to explore the area a little more and sample the delights of the Aga and wood burner.

Mrs Miller

Beautiful holiday home in a stunning location. Friendly and helpful owners. Loads to do in the area and wonderful pubs/eateries nearby. All in all a lovely holiday.

Mrs Nevitt

This is a beautiful stone cottage set in AONB. Impeccably clean. Closest large supermarket is about 25 minutes away. Lots of activities about. Be mindful that the small double really is small for a streaky teenager!

Mrs Mitchell

Our week at the Shippon was superb. The owner was very helpful and always on hand for advice, the barn was very sympathetically and beautifully restored, and the variety of walks from the door was perfect for us. We had a really lovely relaxing week enjoying the moor and the peace.

Mrs Davies

Interesting architecture, helpful owners, amazing views, thoughtfully and beautifully furnished, good showers, plenty of throws, fascinating books, well lit, lovely garden...A great place to stay.

Mr Kinzel

A wonderful holiday Shippon on Dartmoor finished to a high standard, spotlessly clean and comfortable. The lovely owners made us feel very welcome. We would rate this property highly.

Mrs Wilde

Such a homely cottage, in such an idyllic setting. The private garden, picturesque courtyard and amenities to suit any situation was perfect. Everything was thought of, from cooking utensils to games. The layout was ideal for our family, with reading spaces upstairs that each of our children dubbed as their lounge! And the private garden, to exercise both our dog and children was invaluable. Thank you.

Mr Pamplin

A lovely cottage in a beautiful and quiet location, with the Moors on the doorstep.

Mr Crew

Great and comfortable cottage with quality fittings.

Mrs Sexton

great location, welcoming hosts and lovely property, we're already thinking about coming again!

Mr Morgan

Wonderful cottage, wonderful location and excellent hosts

Mrs Inwood

The Shippon is a fantastic property to stay and explore Dartmoor. Hosts Tracey and Steve couldn’t be more helpful. A truly wonderful week spent here, we would definitely return.

Mr Hasley

The Barn has been well furbished and has all you can need for your stay. Great to have the utility area and downstairs shower and toilet. Location is amazing with walks out to the Moor on the doorstep and we were blessed with amazing weather for most of our stay so got to enjoy so much. Very peaceful and large outdoor space away from the road to enjoy, all fenced off Owners are very responsive and helpful and although they are onsite next door the Barn does feel very separate and private. Bed is very comfy and we had a lovely stay. Would highly recommend

Miss Willett

Not only was the property outstanding, the owners are such lovely people! We had the most wonderful stay and can’t wait to come back and say hello!

Mrs Harvey

We really enjoyed our stay here, a perfect location on the moor. Very comfortable, well thought out with everything you should need. Lovely bedding and comfy beds. Very helpful, friendly hosts. All in all a really relaxing stay. Would certainly rebook this property. Libby and Paul

Mr McArthur

Just as stunning as the pictures suggest. Fantastic location for accessing Dartmoor, you can literally walk to it in a few minutes, and still not too far from the coast. There are nice walks straight out the door but you can get to most of the moor fairly quickly. The garden for the house is also beautiful and very private. Owners were very nice and helpful. Would stay again!

Mrs Appleby

A lovely cottage, very comfortable and clean, lovely beds. The owners Steve and Tracy are very friendly and helpful. We would definately like to return.

Mrs Gibbons

A beautiful property, and very comfortable. In a stunning location in the middle of the moor. The owners were very helpful and knowledgable and were always happy to advise us.

Dr Parker

The Shippon is a perfect location for exploring Dartmoor with everything readily accessible. The property was very comfortable, lovely beds and well appointed. The owners were very helpful.

Mrs Adams

If you love Dartmoor, peace and quiet stay at The Shippon. Owners very pleasant. Can,t wait to go again.
