Mr Horner
Beautiful property, peaceful location. We had a wonderfully relaxing week and would highly recommend a holiday here.
Mr Partridge
Lovely property and excellent facilities.
Mrs Laycock
We all throughly enjoyed our short stay at The Shippen. I would describe our arrival as having the WOW factor!! It is beautifully situated down a quiet lane and on opening the front door, WOW!! Such beautiful furnishings , extremely stylish, immaculately clean. Compliments to the housekeeper, you deserve a medal!! The beds are the most comfortable we have ever experienced in a Classic Cottage, superb. We had them all as singles but they would make up as lovely superking size doubles. The owners live in the other house and were very friendly and helpful when we saw them. Extremely kind of them to leave us some fizz in the fridge and bread butter etc. We really appreciated their kindness, especially the focaccia bread which went down a treat with our lunch!! We were delighted that we could walk right from the door up-to Buckland Beacon , a circular walk of about 9 miles, stunning views in the autumn sunshine, we were very fortunate to have good weather. My star gazing friend was delighted with the clear skies and the stars we experienced from the hot tub! We all learnt a lot!!! Thank you to the owners for providing us with the most delightful experience in a stunning property. We loved it and didn’t want to leave.
Mrs Turner
The cottage itself is beautifully done, clean and in a good location. However, unfortunately we did not feel very comfortable or welcome by our host during our stay. There were lots of house rules that we were met with as soon as we arrived, without the chance to settle in. We didn’t always feel like we had the freedom to use the facilities, and most of our interactions with the host weren’t as positive as we would’ve hoped.
Mr Barton
excellent location, quiet and welcoming. Lovely comfy beds. Hot tub was very welcome and a lovely place to take a family. The owners were friendly and available if required and we loved our stay.
Mrs Vickery
Jo and John were kind and friendly hosts, and we enjoyed being visited by Wizard the cat. The house was the perfect base for the week - easy parking, large gardens with hottub, and everything needed inside to make it feel like home ... comfy living room with fireplace, large dining area, fully fitted kitchen, 3 bedrooms with the option to use as twin or superking (ideal for our tall family!) and 3 bathrooms. The area is stunning and there is plenty to see and do, in and around Ashburton and Dartmoor. We would love to return!
Mr Gardiner
Excellent property , beautifully appointed and very kind , friendly hosts in a lovely part of Dartmoor
Mrs Stafford
Jo and John were delightful hosts and happy to help sort out any queries we had. We had a lovely time, especially enjoying the hot tub and beautiful garden. Everything about The Shippen was amazing - beautifully decorated and very well equipped, down to the bottles in the fridge and the essential supplies which were much appreciated. Our dog Sully particularly loved the garden - with so much space to run in and much larger than our one at home! The Pizza van in the local campsite 10 yards up the road from The Shippen makes delicious pizzas on Fridays and Saturdays - certainly to be recommended, as was The Red Mullet, the fish and chip shop in Ashburton! Ashburton itself is a lovely village with some interesting shops and an excellent butcher! So many places were in easy reach by car - some lovely Devon villages, Dartmoor and South Devon Beaches. I highly recommend this beautiful home and certainly hope to return.
Mrs Creed
Fantastic cottage, very comfortable in a lovely quiet location, but so easy to get to lots of places within around 30 minutes. Would highly recommend.
Mrs Ingle
The Shippen is the ideal place to stay for a holiday in Devon. Beautiful enclosed large garden with hot tub and trampoline for the kids. Extremely clean and well maintained with everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. The owners are extremely helpful and friendly, they even stayed up late to welcome us after a long car journey which was much appreciated. We had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend staying at the Shippen.
Miss Taylor
I was really happy I booked this cottage, everything looked brand new, the beds were so comfortable and each bedroom has a superking bed which are interlinked so you can part them as well. Amenities in the kitchen were great, in fact one of the best places I've stayed in, in the UK. The hot tub was great to come home to after a day out sightseeing, and there were some great places to eat as well which weren't too far away. Overall we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate staying here again. Wizard the cat is very friendly. Check in was 4pm although we got there earlier and they didn't mind, check out is 10am, different to what it says on the classic cottages website which states 5pm check in and 9am check out.
Mrs Lewis
A beautiful cottage in a quiet location. Exceptionally clean. Very comfortable with Super Kingsize beds and new mattresses. Plenty of space to spread out. Owners very friendly and helpful. Lovely walks in the area make this a great spot for hikers with the Dartmoor Way going right past the property (but take the written instructions because the waymarkers are variable). Walkable on quiet lanes into Ashburton which is a lively small town. Highly recommend.
Mrs Constable
The location and standard of the cottage were truly excellent. The beds were extremely comfortable and we all slept very well. The equipment and the furnishings were all of a very high standard and it is obvious that the owners (who are so lovely and very helpful) have put in a lot of time and thought into renovating and decorating the cottage. The hot tub was the icing on the cake and was perfect for relaxing in after a day of sightseeing. The views are gorgeous! The local town of Ashburton is delightful and has all necessary amenities and more. We cannot wait to come again!
Mr Archer
Lovely quiet location, with easy access to the brilliant fish deli, butcher and baker in Ashburton. Beautiful garden and view. The house is lovingly put together, and highly recommended.
