Reviews

Located in the small hamlet of Bohortha close to St Anthony headland on the Roseland peninsula, The Thatchings has everything you could want from this chocolate box Cornish cottage. From its tidy thatched roof and pretty stone façade to the original beams, low ceilings and original character, this delightful Grade II Listed cottage combines traditional features with an infusion of luxury and all the modern comforts you could ask for.

Follow the path to the pretty porch and step inside, on one side of the hallway is the sitting-room, furnished with gorgeous sofas, perfect for sinking into after a day out exploring. Spend some time with your favourite book or chatting over the places you've visited that day and the plans for tomorrow. On the other side of the cottage, you will find the cosy dining-room and stylish well-equipped kitchen, whether you like to cook or prefer to eat out on holiday, simply making a cuppa or creating a delicious feast for all to enjoy, this is a very pleasing space to spend time.

Pour a glass and take it outside, sit a while by the cottage, close your eyes and listen to the sounds around you, this spot is a real sun-trap in the spring and summer so don't forget your hat! Follow the pathway past the neighbouring cottages, climb the three steps at the end of the garden and turn left, here you will find a second secret enclosed garden, with mature trees and shrubs giving you shade when you need sanctuary from the sun. There is a large, enclosed lawn here so any children in the party have plenty of space to run around and let off steam. Take the steps up to your private raised deck 'Lookout' this has been perfectly positioned to really make the most of the wonderful sea views which extend over to Falmouth and as far down as the Lizard peninsula, you can sit and watch the sunrise and sunset from this truly special spot.

When it's time to retire, head up the cottage stairs and choose from one of the two lovely bedrooms, both accessed up a further step on the very typical, split-landing. Bedroom one features the rather gorgeous French-style wooden bed, king-size and dressed in crisp white linens and comfy pillows. This pretty and spacious bedroom is a relaxing haven with views over the garden. The second bedroom, with a panelled wall, is a flexible resting space either as two single beds or a super-king size double (simply select your preference at the time of booking). The shower-room is located on the ground floor, ideal for washing off the salt water after a day on the beach.

The Thatchings is one of the prettiest cottages in St Anthony and it is simply perfect for that Cornish escape you've been planning all year.

Mrs Board

We loved our stay at The Thatchings and would highly recommend it! Bohortha is a gorgeous and quaint village about 10 minutes drive from Portscatho. Lots of lovely beaches within walking distance. We really enjoyed walking the coast path to the Hidden Hut and taking the foot ferry to St Mawes. The ferry stop was a short walk from the house. The house itself is very quaint and comfortable.

Mrs Eldred

Great location for a quiet break , great local beaches, good walks and great views.

Miss Dwyer

The Thatchings is a lovely, tranquil cottage and we enjoyed a peaceful stay. It is quite remote so walkers will love it, but others may struggle as there are no shops, restaurants etc within easy walking distance. The cottage is very comfortable, well equipped & furnished. We particularly enjoyed the lookout as we were blessed with great weather!

Miss Wyon

The Thatchings is a lovely little cottage and was a perfect base to explore the area. The furnishings were beautiful and tasteful and the kitchen was very well equipped. The cottages either side are also holiday cottages so we had some good chats with our neighbours and shared tips on places to go. The area is extremely pretty and there are plenty of walks along the coast or to the little 'Place" ferry ( regular trips to St.Mawes and then a further ferry to Falmouth). You can take the coastal walk along to Porth which takes about 30 minutes. There are plenty of other beautiful beaches and towns to explore nearby. Great art galleries and pubs in Gerrans/ Porthcurnick too. I'd recommend bringing the basics food wise with you as the nearest large supermarket is 40 minutes away. Lovely farm shops locally and lots of wonderful places to eat at the beaches too. The little garden and the look out are also great features and the view over St Mawes and Falmouth is wonderful. Overall this is a fantastic cottage and we had a fabulous stay. We would love to go back!

Mrs Connaughton

The Thatchlings is a charming, quirky, well appointed cottage in a really wonderful location. Our children loved the house and the walk to the garden, especially when we bumped into the neighbouring turkeys!

Dr Whatling

Very well equipped and beautiful cottage set in a fantastic peaceful area for walking the south west costal path.
