Reviews

Nestled in the pretty hamlet of Bohortha on the stunning Roseland peninsula, Coastguards is a beautifully restored cottage, surrounded by peaceful countryside with captivating views towards Gerrans Bay and the approaches to Falmouth and the Carrick roads. Whilst retaining many original features, Coastguards has been lovingly restored and now offers stylish, contemporary living at its very best. With gorgeous walks through stunning scenery to Place where you can catch the ferry to the vibrant seaside village of St Mawes from the doorstep, this beautiful cottage is the perfect holiday retreat for extended families or groups of friends looking for a traditional Cornish getaway, and even your four-legged friend is most welcome.

Coastguards sits at the end of a quiet unmade country lane (not suitable for low slung vehicles) with parking for two cars. The layout of the ground floor is typical of Cornish cottages with interlinking rooms, traditional beamed ceilings and sash windows giving views towards the sea from the front elevation. The kitchen is beautifully crafted along the rear of the cottage and fully equipped including a swish electric range cooker and the all-important dishwasher. A handy utility-room off the kitchen is home to the washing machine/drier and there's plenty of space for beach equipment. The adjoining wet-room is perfect for washing salty toes after a beach day.

From the kitchen, two steps lead down into the first of two, cosy sitting-rooms. The first sitting-room is a lovely area with original feature ornamental fireplace and perfectly placed window seat. The second sitting-room has a comfy corner sofa so guests can spread out and relax. Coastguards has been elegantly restored by the creative owners and beautiful traditional furniture sits perfectly with contemporary finishings, evident from the fabulous lighting and accessories. Look at the unique framed artwork above the doorframe into the second sitting-room and on closer inspection you can see it is years and years of old paint, carefully sanded back to great effect. The snug sits at the far end of the cottage, with a gorgeous desk (perfect if work comes calling) and a fabulous fireplace with wood-burner. This cosy room is the place to be in cooler months!

There are two staircases leading to the first floor, one at each end of the cottage. Both are typically steep as is traditional in Cornish cottages. On the first floor you will find four bedrooms, elegantly furnished with luxury linens for a great night's sleep and all with views across the garden towards the sea. The first bedroom is a gorgeous double room with king-size bed and the prettiest armchair for a quiet moment of peace. Bedroom two is a delightful twin bedroom, perfect for either adults or children. Both a shower-room and a second bathroom with shower can be found on the first floor, newly fitted and beautifully crafted. Bedrooms three and four are a twin room and double room with king-size bed. The landing between the bedrooms has steps and there are also steps to the bathroom and shower-room.

Outside, Coastguards is a total delight. The gardens are lawned and enclosed to the front, ideal for children and the family dog to let off steam, and a perfectly placed patio with furniture catches the Cornish sunshine. Views from here take in the gorgeous countryside and sea views over Porthbeor beach and the western approaches to Falmouth harbour so you can sit in dreamy seclusion and take in the scenery all day. Behind the cottage steps lead to an orchard which you are welcome to wander round and parking for two cars is right next to the property.

With blissful views, gorgeous interiors and a tranquil location, Coastguards is the perfect place for an extra special getaway for you, your family and your friends.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mr Bonstow

A wonderful location if you like stunning scenery, walking and peace.. After many visits, staying in lovely properties at all times of the year we cannot recommend the area highly enough. The service provided by Classic Cottages completes the experience.

Mrs Wiseman

Absolutely lovely place to stay and look forward to staying again. I was nervous having read earlier reviews about steep stairs but they were absolutely fine - short flights of a little bit steeper than modern houses but nothing scary.

Mrs Gordon

This is our second stay at Coastguards and we hope to book again for next year. We all, including my adult children, absolutely love it. It is so calming with such easy access to the most stunning walks and lovely Portscatho, gorgeous beaches and Thirstea café nearby. The perfect venue to completely unwind. Thank you for having us ??

Mrs Baker

A beautifully presented cottage in a picturesque location. The many reception rooms worked really well for us staying with extended family, some having to work during our stay. The WIFI was excellent and the walk to the ferry at Place to pop over to St Mawes a delight.

Mrs Rainey

Coastguards is a nice house, but beware there is not a room where 8 people can sit together and chat etc. It is lacking some TLC The position is good just by the coastal path, but there is no local shop or pub.

Mr Owen

Unsuitable for those with mobility problems as there are lots of internal steps into and out of rooms and the stairs are very steep with only one bannister to hold onto. There is a wide choice of channels on the Smart tv and three little sitting rooms for relaxing in. Portscatho is a nice little village not too far away with a very good village shop.

Mr Bonstow

Stairs could be difficult for anyone with mobility problems.

Mrs Williams

This cottage is in an isolated location far down the Roseland Peninsula. Located slightly inland at the top of the hill there are beautiful walks straight out of the door. In good weather a footpath leads down to the Place ferry across to St Mawes (no parking at Place). The walk back up is stiff but quite doable. Towen Beach a short drive away is National Trust and great for a leasurely day. A great advantage it is a long drive so is quieter that most beaches in Cornwall. Portscatho is again again nearby and a super little resort with good shops for groceries, coffees and ice cream parlour. The food at the plume of feathers was not to our taste - quantity over quality. A great location. You need to be reasonably fit to enjoy fully. A car is essential.

Mr Bonstow

Superb! We would have no hesitation in staying again.

Ms Scott

Coastguards is a lovely quirky house, comfortable and cosy in late season. In a remote location, with great walks to local beaches and interesting sights. Local livestock visit occasionally! Depending how you want to spend your time together, or not, check out the rooms & layout if filling the house for a multi family holiday. Lots of space but split between 3 smaller sitting rooms, one with a cosy fire, one with tv and the 3rd a quiet space with a comfy sofa. Beds are lovely and comfortable & bathrooms flexible with good showers. Kitchen is well equipped

Mrs Miller

A beautifully presented cottage in a great position on the coastal footpath. We went in the Autumn but I imagine the garden is a great suntrap in the summer. The house is well equipped with everything you need for a fabulous holiday.

Mrs Gordon

Coastguards is the most perfect place to stay. It is so comfortable and its position is perfect, being just a short walk away from the stunning coastal path so no need to get in the car unless you want to go further afield. The garden is enclosed so our doggies could roam freely. Portscatho is the loveliest village too.

Mrs Brady

A very clean and well-equipped house set in a beautiful location. We had a fabulous time there.

Mrs Jackson

Fantastic spot for coastal walks and worth driving to park at St Anthony’s head to walk down to to the stunning beaches near the lighthouse (Great & Little Moluccan Beaches) - perfect for swimming! Lots of rooms in the house for everyone to have their own space! Garden will be fabulous in the summer.

mrs Painter

the location is fantastic with great walks on the doorstep and the cottage is very well decorated and equipped.

Mrs Nicholls

Coastguards is a well presented, comfortable property for a family or a group of friends. There is a lot of space, if you want to gather together or find a quiet corner. Our 2 grandchildren loved the window seats. There are lots of lovely walks in the area and the property is very dog friendly. Our party of 4 adults and 2 children experienced on going problems with lack of water pressure, which made showering extremely difficult, and occasionally impossible, due to time delays in water pressure recovery. (Particularly when we all returned from the beach.) Julie, from Classic Cottages, was excellent in trying to resolve this problem, but despite visits from a plumber and South West Water, the problem was unresolved. We hope this can be fixed as otherwise Coastguards is a lovely house.

mrs homewood

A really beautiful property that exceeded our expectations on every level. Because the property had been furnished and kitted out to such a high quality, especially in the kitchen, it was like coming home at the end of day. We had a really lovely time in a stunning location, in a well loved, well presented family home. It was very special, thank you

Dr Bowman

Sympathetically restored and well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting.
