No detail has been overlooked; furnished throughout to the highest standard you will not be disappointed, this barn offers the best of both worlds from location to styling making for a wonderful memorable self-catering holiday.
Buttervilla Retreat has been renovated by the owners who have spent hours literally bringing it to life stone by stone, the workmanship is clear to see from the design, layout and fittings; perfection has taken several years but the owners have created a holiday retreat that will be the envy of friends and family.
Walking through the doors you are greeted by open plan living at its best with solid wood floors which link the living, dining and kitchen areas together seamlessly. The sophisticated sitting-area has been decorated with local art sculptures and furnished with a sumptuous velvet sofa where you can sit back and enjoy the heat from the wood-burner on those colder nights. The kitchen offers all that any modern home offers, so no compromise is necessary at this barn.
Venturing upstairs you will be greeted by two well positioned bedrooms, the first being the main bedroom. From the bed you have wonderful views down and across the valley, simply open the door and you can enjoy the sound of the birds enjoying the morning sun. Across the landing is the twin bedroom which looks out toward the owners' farmhouse – in no way is your privacy compromised due to the positioning of the private garden and windows. Both bedrooms share the shower-room, which is positioned between the two.
Buttervilla Retreat has its own private entrance and driveway allowing you to park at the end of your garden area. The garden will become the place that you want to start and finish your days, offering the perfect viewing platform for wonderful sunrises and sunsets that will make for wonderful holiday memories.

I can highly recommend this delightful Buttervilla Retreat. It is located in a convenient place for access to coast and country with a very special view across the valley. It is clean, comfortable and well equipped. We had a memorable week here and would certainly return.
Mrs Drew
We really enjoyed our holiday at Buttervilla Retreat. The cottage is absolutely gorgeous with everything you would need for a self catering holiday. The log burner in the lounge area made it very cosy, perfect for dreary February evenings. Extra logs can be purchased from the owners. A lot of care has gone into the decor and furniture choices, making it a very lovely place to stay. The bed in the double bedroom was particularly comfortable and the the sofa in the lounge area was also very comfortable. The position of the cottage is very peaceful, surrounded by countryside. The owners have added a shortcut across the field to make it quicker to walk to the local pub down the lane. It took us 4 minutes! The wooden hot tub, which is heated by a log burner, was a lovely treat. It took a while to heat it up, but once at temperature it was very relaxing and the February weather didn't dissuade us from trying it out a couple of times. There are lots of walks in the area and the South West Coast Path walks are a short drive away. We did the Mount Edgecumbe coastal walk as a circular from Kingsand and Cawsand and Rame Head as another circular from the same start point. We also took the passenger ferry from Cremyll over to Plymouth and walked to the Barbican for a very nice lunch. We would definitely recommend this cottage as a cosy, romantic retreat, dog friendly and perfectly positioned. Thank you to the owners for the lovely flowers and cream tea and yes we did put the jam on first with the cream on last as we were in Cornwall after all!
Mr Hockley
Loved Buttervilla Retreat. It was exactly what we wanted for our NYE break. Its a cosy cottage, with loads of space and dog friendly. Situated within a few minutes walk of a great traditional pub with fantastic home cooked food and lovely landlords. Perfectly located within 15 minutes drive of Looe and 20 minutes from Polperro. Hot tub was a lovely treat, the views are stunning and owners are very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return and recommend.
Mr Moore
A great week at Buttervilla Retreat. The cottage is ideally placed for access to local places, especially the attractive coastal towns and villages and some bracing walks will take you to a few great pubs. The hot tub is easy to use and a great addition as it provides for excellent views of the night sky and local hillsides. Don’t miss the Halfway House pub…great food and a warm welcome. All in all it’s a fab place for a relaxing break.
Mr Brown
Beautiful cottage with lovely countryside views. Nigel the owner was very helpful with places to visit nearby. Great scones. Was a short break but very relaxing, especially in the hot tub . Our dog was very relaxed too.
Mrs Roberts
What a gorgeous cottage, in a stunning location!! As a family of 4 with a dog we felt very at home straight away. The cottage is beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for a weeks break. The best bit being sitting by the fire pit looking over the valley with a glass of wine in the evening. Nigel the owner made us feel very welcome and the scone were delicious!! Highly recommend for a romantic get away or a family break!!
Mr Medlycott
Nigel and Mel make your stay a relaxing one, nothing too much trouble and very friendly. The hot tub was a joy, as were Mel's scones, or scones, whichever way you say it (cream on the top though)! Position of the cottage on top of the hill is near but far enough away from the main road. Silence is lovely.
Mrs Campbell
We had an amazing holiday at Buttervilla with our family of 4. From the gorgeous countryside views, the well equipped cottage to the local tips from Nigel, our host. The hot tub was a bonus to relax in after a day of sight seeing or fun at the beach. Would recommend for a peaceful holiday away from the crowds.
Ms Hart
This property is beautiful, the owners have thought of everything. We loved our stay here, a very special property to enjoy a relaxing break. Hot tub is amazing. Do not hesitate to book, an absolute gem. Just wonderful!
Miss Collins
Beautiful location, lovely views and your own special path to the local pub. Great place to stay with all the home comforts you could want for a peaceful getaway in a very pretty, unspoilt part of Cornwall.
Mrs Howard
Buttervilla Retreat is a delightful , beautfully appointed property , in a glorious location . Nigel and Mel, the hosts , were wonderful hosts, going over and beyond our expectations to make our visit as enjoyable as possible. We are looking forward to our next visit !
Mrs White
We loved everything about Buttervilla Retreat. We felt instantly at home and both the location and the property are excellent. It's in a quiet and beautiful location, which makes for a great night's sleep, yet the nearest beach is very close with lots of good restaurants within easy reach. The property is beautifully decorated with amazing views out across open green fields. We hope to return :)
Ms Taylor
It is a gorgeous place of the highest quality. Wonderful for a couple or small family . The owners couldn’t have been more lovely . Will definitely be returning
Mrs Dade
Beautiful barn in a beautiful place! You can see that everything has been thought of throughout. The kitchen has everything you need. Everything was just easy and nothing too much faff! We absolutely loved our stay and are already missing the amazing views! Would definitely go back if we can ever find an avaliable time!! Feeling very relaxed now. Thank you for having us :)
Mr Ferguson
We all had a wonderful time, especially our 18 month old granddaughter. The cottage is of a very high standard, very clean and comfortable. Couldn’t fault anything. Will definitely return.
Mrs horsey
A really fabulous bolthole in a great area with easy reach to some fantastic walking and beaches.
Mr Delbridge
We really enjoyed our stay at Buttervilla. The barn conversion is beautiful with excellent decor. It was lovely to have a Christmas tree and some decorations and the scones were delicious! If we were being really picky there were some minor points that we feel could be improved. The two seater sofa in the lounge area is extremely low and wasn't particular comfortable. We also felt there could be better lighting in the downstairs , particularly in the food preparation area/breakfast bar. It was lovely that our Labrador was able to stay with us but having an enclosed area around the cottage for her to run around in would be very beneficial to dog owners and could be easily achieved given the current layout.
Mrs Willoughby
We rarely stay in a property twice but loved Buttervilla Retreat and had to come back. Owners very welcoming, nothing too much trouble, particularly loved the wood burner and the outside shower for our dog, great after muddy walks.
Mrs Basford
Wonderful cottage in a beautiful location with a great pub nearby. Just loved our stay here, relaxing and fun had at the nearby Adrenalin Quarry. The owners are lovely too and the cottage was immaculate.
Mrs Stratfold
Everything you need was at the property. Comfortable stay
Miss Aston
A wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. We had a fabulous time and hope to return. Perfect for a small family!
Mr Freeman
The Cottage was nice. The best thing about it was it’s location to the rest of Cornwall.
Mrs Willoughby
We loved this cottage so did our 11 month old puppy! Location idyllic and owners very helpful and friendly, this really is a retreat, every comfort thought of.
Mrs Grew
Delightful Cornish cottage with a beautiful scenic view of countryside.
Mr Graham
The owners have clearly poured their hearts into creating a perfect holiday retreat. Both the layout and the interior has been thoughtfully designed so that you feel at ‘home on holiday‘. So it’s also not so precious too, so that you can feel relaxed immediately you arrive. Everything is catered for including dogs. The outside shower area is brilliant for two and four legged guests. It’s perfect and Nigel and Melanie are wonderful (but very discrete hosts) for their advice on the area, home made scones and for sharing such an incredible place to relax. Truly a home away from home.
Miss Collins
Beautifully appointed cottage with stunning views, great for getting away from it all and enjoying country living.
Mrs Vurrie
Perfect in every way.
Miss Pearson
Our stay at Buttervilla Retreat was fantastic. It’s well kitted out, beautifully finished and you couldn’t want anything more in a holiday cottage. The hosts are really welcoming and friendly and were close by should you need them. The extra touches like the local soaps, the fresh cut flowers and the home baked scones made a beautiful cottage even better and great value for money.
