This lovingly converted granite barn is set in tranquil countryside adjacent to the magnificent Luxulyan Valley, a World Heritage Site of outstanding beauty that just begs to be explored. Views from the garden encompass the owner's fields and woodland, where bird watching hides and benches allow this wildlife haven to be appreciated.

This is an idyllic spot, perfect for dog walking or just sitting and relaxing. Detached and with only the owner and Snuggledown (1975) as unobtrusive neighbours, Trethevey is ideal for families or groups of friends. It can also be booked alongside Snuggledown for memorable multi-generational holidays. The lovely owner is truly welcoming and a cream tea awaits guests on arrival.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Humphries

We really enjoyed the quiet location and the feeling of remoteness yet being very close to a wide range of walks and really interesting places to visit. The king-size bed is very comfy and the owner is really helpful. As others have commented the local lanes are narrow but passing is only potentially a problem for a couple of minutes on the "short" route to the main road, and it was easy to negotiate our way round the only vehicle we met all week.

Mrs Kiefer

We had a great stay with the family in Trethevey. Everything was great: the cottage was spacious and well equipped, the location was quiet, plenty of space on the lawn for playing boules and badminton. Many thanks to the house owners!

Mrs Wiles

Trethevey has been a firm family favourite for many years. We love the area, its walks and beaches, and there are just so many places close by to visit - it doesn't matter what time of year it is.

Mrs Ferguson

Had a lovely stay. Owner really lovely. Lanes to get to accommodation a little narrow and uneven so would be helpful if this was in the description. Didn't takeaway from a lovely stay. The Crown pub just down the road fab food.

Mr Lovely

Beautiful setting and lovely walks around the cottage. The cottage itself has excellent character with good use of space. The book nook is fantastic and my daughter who is 16 loved spending time in it. The surrounding area is easily accessible. The cottage is in a fantastic spot being only 30 miles from most major tourist attractions and only 10 minute drive to the Eden project. Par beach is fantastic, this is only 2 miles away from the cottage.

Mrs Wiles

Perfect place to stay in such a lovely area, with the beaches, coastal paths and woodland walks being our family favourites. Close to the Eden Project and Fowey for special visits.

Mrs Grace

Trethevey was everything we expected and then some. Mrs. Roberts was truly delightful and made us feel very welcome. As did the many swallows which wheeled around in a merry dance above our heads. The setting is quite magical, with ancient stone walls wrapping protective arms around the visitors and the view looking down the field, with its curious cattle, is beautiful and very peaceful. We all wished we could stay longer, but hopefully we’ll be back at some point in the future.

Mrs Ely

Lovely rural property with interesting walks from the front door. Our hostess gave us a warm personal welcome with lots of information about the area. Her description of an alternative route to miss a very narrow difficult lane was accurate and helpful also.

Mrs Molan

Spacious quiet property reached through narrow lanes, well located for so many local attractions.

Mrs Hucks

A lovely property to return to after a busy day out, peaceful and relaxing. One night we even got to see the Milky Way and shooting stars.

Mr Mallon

Very quiet location with lovely walks from the doorstep. Our first time in this part of Cornwall and overall i would describe it as Cornwall's charming secret.

Mrs Fewtrell

Verna was a very welcoming and helpful hostess. There if needed but not intrusive. Trethevey is in a lovely tranquil location with wonderful walks from the door and a pretty garden to enjoy. A very comfortable cottage in an ideal location to visit lots of Cornwall's attractions.

Ms Barry

Lovely spacious cottage and delightful owner. Peaceful and quiet. Be prepared for a rugged drive to get to it, narrow high hedged roads on all approaches. Not a problem for me in a relatively large vehicle but others may not like it.

Ms Eke

Peaceful location and plentiful wildlife. Owner Verna very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Spacious accommodation. Walking from the door.

Miss Hayworth

Made to feel very welcome. Had everything we needed to make the holiday an enjoyable one. The lady owner was very nice and extremely helpful. We are definitely going to book again

Mrs McDonnell

Verna was a wonderful host. Nothing was too much trouble. The cream tea went down well on arrival. Lovely spacious house, clean & tidy. Plenty of parking for our 3 cars. Dogs lived it there, walks literally from the doorstep could also exercise the dogs in the field adjacent to the cottage. Close to lots of lovely places to visit. Fowey, Lanhydrock, Lostwithiel. Even went up to the North coast to Port Issac, Rock & Padstow. About half an hours drive. Walked to the Crown Inn. Lovely old pub good beer. All in all a lovely New Years break.

Mrs Barker

A hidden gem where you can truly switch off and relax. Fabulous walks in the beautiful Luxulyan valley from the doorstep and wonderful hospitality from the owner, Verna. We appreciated the space and the huge woodburner which made the autumn evenings very cosy.

Mrs Seaman

We had a fabulous stay with our party of 6 and 3 dogs at Trethevey last week. The dog walking was such a treat and although the weather wasn't brilliant it didn't stop us from doing anything. We loved the Luxulyan valley which could be reached straight from the cottage and the local pubs for dining out. The local beaches were a joy with the dogs and a little cafe at Pentuwan served delicious food, highly recommended. Verna made us feel very welcome with a lovely cream tea on arrival and the cottage that was very cosy and comfortable. We all had a lovely time and plan to return later this year. We have already recommended Trethevey to friends and colleagues who own dogs as it truely is a dogs paradise.

Mrs Griffiths

The access to this property is down extremely narrow roads for about 2 miles of the main road with very few passing places.

Ms McFadden

Verna was a wonderful host and made us feel extremely welcome. The fresh scones on our arrival were very much appreciated. The cottage is very well equipped and very spacious. It is in a tranquil setting, and well located close to the Eden project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. It is also close to some lovely beaches. I would highly recommend it.

Mr Kick

Great cottage, well equipped, thoughtfully decorated, wonderful location, we loved walking through the woods with our dog to the valley in particular. The area has a lot to offer whatever the weather, our dog loved Par Sands beach which is 15 minutes away, we never had to go far for visits to harbours, beaches, eating establishments or shops. The owners were very friendly and available if required but definitely not intrusive. All in all one of the best cottages we have ever used and we would recommend it highly.

Mr Darley

A beautiful and picturesque location and perfect for a weeks stay to visit the Eden Project and the south coast - cream tea on arrival, provided by the charming and very helpful owner of the property was very welcome, thank-you!

Mr Roesler

We spent four weeks in Trethevey with four people. The house is very spacious and well equipped. It is idyllically located in the middle of nature and absolutely quiet. From here we could quickly reach all the sights in Cornwall. High recreational value. Thanks again to our lovely landlady

Mrs Clark

We were looking for a special place for some family time and we were so fortunate to have discovered the hidden gem of Trethevey. The peace and quiet, the glorious valley and woodland walks just a hop over the stile , our dogs tails never stopped wagging, as they explored. The barn has everything you need and a warm welcome from Verna with a sublime cream tea and fresh flowers in every room, lovely touches, it was well laid out as we had an elderly person not so steady on her feet, the downstairs bedrooms and shower were perfect . Ther are many places to visit, very dog friendly and the option of being within easy reach of the north Cornish coast. It is quiet, the roads and space to unwind, be off grid if you want but with the village or quirky tourist spots like Fowey or the Eden Project , lost gardens or the bustle of St Austell just a skip away. Thank you Verna and family for sharing this special place.

Mrs Deering

Beautiful cottage, brilliant location, really lovely owner and family. We can't wait to book again. Little slice of bliss.

Mrs Coles

A lovely cottage in a lovely location. We have stayed at Trethevey approx 9 times over the past 6 years and have had a wonderful, peaceful, chilled-out holiday every time. If you're looking for a quiet, off the beaten track, but not too far away holiday, this is the place to come to.

Mrs Ruecroft

A perfect holiday cottage for those seeking peace and quiet. It was however roughly a mile drive down a very narrow lane to get there. Many miles if walking the stunning Luxylan Valley right on the doorstep. Ideal for our energetic Springer!

Mrs Jones

Comfortable cottage in lovely quiet location by Luxulyan Valley.

Mrs Johnson

The quietness and views. Fantastic walks along beaches and countrside. The stars on a clear night. For a short time we are living our dream . Until we have to go home

Miss Walters

our family wanted a peaceful, relaxing place to call home for a week. Trethevey gave us all of that and more. Secluded yet accessible and just stunning. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Mrs Elliott-Shircore

Beautiful cottage, location, walks. Charming and helpful owner. Perfect retreat but near enough to coast too. Just lovely. Thank you.

Mr Ellis

Verna and Kay were so welcoming and friendly, the scones on arrival were delicious. The Luxulyan Valley (on the doorstep) is a hidden treasure fantastic for walking the dog.

Mrs Faunt

Very comfortable cottage ,great welcome with cream tea. It was very well equipped and our Springer Spaniel was on doggy heaven due to free run time in the three fields. ..just be careful on the very narrow approach road.

Mr Sheppard

The Cottage certainly lived up to our good expectations and was a delight. Verna and Kay made us and our two dogs very welcome and were extremely helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We hope to stay again soon. Ken and Family

Mr Smith

A beautiful location and perfect accommodation. Fabulous walks in the woods, cream tea when we arrived and pint of milk in the fridge was very welcome. Approach road is very narrow but we never had a problem fortunately. Verna and Kay were lovely and very helpful. Enjoy the comfortable lounge but watch your head if you're up in the gallery! We will certainly be back, it is very conveniently situated to reach lots of places to visit and the dogs loved the woods as much as we did!

Mr Taylor

We had a fantastic stay in this property, the surrounding Luxullyan valley is extraordinary, the house was well maintained and the owner delightful. Highly recommended.

Mrs Hurst

Trethevey is the perfect cottage for dog walking; just over the stile from the garden are lots of places to be explored - it's dog heaven! The cottage is a perfect base for exploring this area of Cornwall, just a few minutes from major roads, but wonderfully isolated as well.

Mrs Norris

you get a really warm welcome from the owners and the cream tea left for us was delicious,

Mrs Johnson

One of the best places we have stayed in. A lovely homely feeling and very quiet and in the middle of no where but close enough to lots of lovely places.

Mr Storey

The cottage was wonderfully comfortable & spacious for the five of us (including the dog) and the setting is gloriously picturesque and tranquil. The narrow lane wasn't a problem either because the only other vehicle we met all week was the postman (once) and we were close enough to a passing place for it not to be a problem. The cottage is very close to the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and the beautiful little town of Fowey -all absolute musts to visit. Our only complaint is that we didn't have enough time to enjoy the cottage and to explore this wonderful corner of Cornwall so we intend to return to Trethevey again in the future.

Mrs Shipley

A clean and comfortable cottage in a lovely setting. Helpful owners. Great for the dogs.

Mrs Enston

Would stay again and would definitely recommend it

Mr Gittings

This cottage is very good, a warm welcome from the owners .Located in a very peaceful location. Pop down the garden and over the stile then follow the path through woods down into the Luxulyan Valley. Also within easy reach of Fowey and the Eden project. And would certainly use this property again.

Miss Free

We had a lovely week at Trevethey, overall the cottage is very comfortable and so quiet, the woods on the doorstep are a real bonus and the cream tea on arrival is a very nice touch. The extremely narrow lane though is rather tortuous & owners of large vehicles should be made aware of this.

Mrs Jarvis

If wifi is important do not book

Miss Taylor

Beautiful cottage with lovely location. Fabulous Walks from the door.

Mrs Coles

What a wonderful place! If you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life this is the place to come. We will return again...

Mrs Gibbs

see you again next year!

Mr Clement

You may publish my comments in the main body of my review.

Miss Partlow

Fantastic cottage, in a beautiful location, Very warm welcome and very helpful. Within easy reach of St Austell area also not far from Newquay. Could not ask for more, everything you could need for a lovely relaxing holiday. Perfect.

Mrs Wadd

This is our second time to Trethevey farm. We have stayed in both cottages and loved each one. The owner Verna makes you feel so welcome , cream tea waiting for you on arrival. The location is superb. Just fields and woods as the outlook. We spent a lot of out time just walking along the wooded paths. The whole area is great for visiting places such as The Lost Gardens of Heligan and the Eden Project, which is about a 5-10minute drive away. We will certainly be going back here next year

Mr Gibbins

trethevey old barn is beautiful, clean comfortable spacious and well equipped, the grounds and gardens are lovelyand dog friendly ,the owners who live on site are welcoming (home-made cream tea on our arrival ,after a 9hr journey was so appreciated !) full of local knowledge and happy to help at all times .well placed for coast and attractions ,Eden project, and Heligan only a few miles, good local pub .Quiet and tanquil ,what a hidden gem ,we will have no hesitation to return and explore some more of Cornwall.

Miss Humphreys

This cottage is wonderful, it is fully equipped with everything that could be needed by a group of friends or a family with young children. The owners were friendly and helpful and the scenery is amazing with some wonderful walks. The Eden project is only a couple of miles away (if you like that sort of thing) and you are within an easy drive of a beach. I would say that prospective guests should note that a car is essential for staying in this property as there are no pubs or similar within an easy walking distance and you are literally in the middle of nowhere so there is no lighting at night and no footpaths. We will definitely consider booking again.

Mrs Hunter

Overall, very nice, comfortable accommodation. Nice touches on arrival with fresh flowers in rooms and scones. Thank you.
