Reviews

A charming single-storey cottage close to waterside village of Flushing and only just over 400 yards to the water down through the estate's private grounds.

Little Trefusis adjoins Trefusis House, an impressive example of Victorian Gothic architecture and home to the Trefusis family since the 12th Century. This grade II listed property oozes appeal, the light open plan living space has a warming Aga in the kitchen area which is the real heart of the property. The kitchen leads through to the dining and living areas with comfortable sofas, a fabulous dining-table and doors that open to a pretty enclosed south-facing garden.

The spacious main bedroom has a king-size bed, with the only sounds being the morning chorus to wake you from your deep slumber. The bunk-room is small and cosy, ideal for slightly older children, the family bathroom has a wonderful tub to soak your weary limbs in after a day on the beach or exploring the coast path.

The enclosed south-facing garden is a peaceful spot for lunch or evening drinks, looking out over the beautiful grounds and bordered on one side by the owner's conservatory (he scrupulously respects your privacy and keeps facing blinds down).

The owner is extremely welcoming to families and enthusiastic gardeners have the treat of exploring the gorgeous, landscaped grounds and a pathway through the private woodland which leads to a beach. The owner is very environmentally minded with solar panel installation in the orchard and biomass heating system, providing much of the Estate's needs, an example of his commitment towards future sustainability.

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Sutherland

A lovely quiet spot but within an easy walk to Flushing village and beach. The cottage is well equipped (with an AGA) and utterly charming.

Mrs Freidank

Amazing cottage, very well equipped, great location, wonderful hosts, warm welcome with details such as fresh flowers and tea, coffee and milk provided. Very kid friendly! We would have loved to stay longer and we will definitely come back!

Mrs Koschany

Such a beautiful cottage, well equipped and nicely furnished, we had everything we needed. It's a 5 minutes walk to a nice beach. Flushing harbour is also nearby and really beautiful. The cottage is a bit off the beaten track so it's really quiet (which is very nice) but if you feel like going shopping, Falmouth is within easy reach and worth going to. Nice shops there and a nice harbour. And so much more to see and to do in Cornwall. We could have stayed much longer and thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Mrs Ansell

Excellent holiday, cottage was furnished and well equipped ,a home from home.

Miss Sharples

Stunning location. Peaceful. Remote but actually easy to get about. Falmouth literally less than 10 mins drive. Loved the Aga, it was really cosy and easy to use. Kitchen area was gorgeous. Watched a young squirrel in the garden, and only heard birds. Was provided with some lovely coffee, biscuits, milk and eggs from their farm. The bed was super comfy and the bedroom really big. Don't expect great wifi, you won't be able to stream films or anything, as it drops out a lot, but its enough and we had good data signal on our phones when it did drop out. They also have a built in dvd with the tv and a few films etc.

Mrs Bowers

We loved the location because it was a bit off the beaten track and the grounds are lovely. We are walkers so the 10min downhill to delightful beach is a delight but going down means coming up. The places to eat around harbour are another 10 min walk away so it’s a good 20 mins uphill to home. The main house is stunning and in fact the vast estate is truly amazing. A wonderful place to holiday if you want peace and quiet and to work your way through a brilliant collection of varied books. I could have stayed all summer.

Ms Jaufmann

A wonderful stay in a great landscape

Mrs McClement

A tranquil property adjoining a big old manor house with in easy reach of numerous places of interest, walks and beaches. Spacious and well equipped.

mr Endicott

Lovely cottage to get away from it all. Peaceful and relaxing with a lovely view over looking the gardens of the main house. It took us 5 minutes to walk to Flushing beach via a private downhill off road track through the estates woodland. We'd have an hour in the sea, which was calm and clear. Walk back uphill to the cottage made cozy and warm by the AGA in the kitchen. Crack open a bottle and sit out in the private rear garden. Would definitely recommend and have already re-booked.

Mrs Clemson

Little Trefusis is an idyllic place - very comfortable, well-equipped cottage in an absolutely beautiful, peaceful location. Really wonderful to have some private outdoor space and to explore the large grounds. The cottage is located close to the beach and to Flushing - nice local shop and pubs/restaurants and easy to get the ferry across to Falmouth. We have visited a few times and always feel totally relaxed and refreshed after a week at Trefusis.

Mrs Boxell

A lovely, well equipped cottage in an ideal location for visiting our favourite parts of Cornwall. Nice circular walk directly from the cottage to Mylor Harbour. Great to be able to get the passenger ferry across the water to Falmouth.

Mrs Redford

Jan, the owner of the property was so kind and helpful. The cottage was comfy, clean and an excellent idyllic position. We had a lovely break and will return.

Mrs Clemson

Beautiful, private, peaceful location in private grounds and just a short walk to a little beach. This is such a comfortable cottage with a lovely garden. We love Little Trefusis.

Mrs Greer

We have stayed at this location on several occasions and enjoyed each time.

Ms Halsall

A beautifully situated and well equipped spacious apartment. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit the area. Peaceful and perfect. Thank you

Mr Welch

Fabulous cottage in an iconic location.

Mr Tinsley

Ideal location for enjoying Mylor Harbour/Flushing and the surrounding walks with easy access to Falmouth via road or ferry and even onto St Mawes by the ferry from Falmouth, excellent service.

Mr Williams

Fabulous location and grounds. Welcoming and relaxed environment. Easy access to ferries. Wonderful walks.

Mrs Earnshaw

The history of the estate is very interesting. The family can trace their lineage back to the 12th century. Our host popped in to give us all the essential information and we felt very welcome. A lovely welcome tray provided delicious locally ground coffee and a box of Cornish Shortbread biscuits. A further special touch was two vases of fresh flowers - one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. I really appreciated this. Thank you Little Trefusis!

Dr Walsh

A fabulous place to stay and explore.

Mr Lukins

A charming and cosy cottage steeped in Trefusis family history, displaying some fantastic original Tudor features. Tastefully decorated with all the home comforts you could wish for, a short (10 mins tops) walk from Flushing and the beach through a beautiful ancient wooded valley. Imagine the secret garden meets the famous 5! Lovely and interesting owners are nearby and happy to help, and you are only a few minutes drive (or ferry/boat trip) from one of my favourite pirate-esque spots the Pandora Inn, and the boutique shopping experience of Falmouth. I was awoken in the mornings by the jenny wren sitting in the rose bushes outside the bedroom windows. A truly magical spot.

MR REYNOLDS

A delightful cottage set in gorgeous grounds. The cottage had everything you could ask for plus quite a large garden well equipped with all summer accessories plus a BBQ. When staying in this area of Cornwall again I would definitely look forward to staying in this lovely cottage again. Marina and John...West Sussex.

Mr Welch

A unique and delightful cottage, just off the beaten track but near to Flushing, Mylor and Falmouth.

Mrs Eager

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Little Trefusis. Spacious, well equipped and tranquil with large gardens to roam, although not remote - Falmouth, Flushing and Mylor all easily accessible, even on foot. A welcome place to come back to after days out exploring.

Ms Lyons

Lovely accommodation in a fantastic location. We loved the woodland walk down to the little cove, the pretty village, nearby hilltop playground, excellent pub and easy access to loads of great spots . The owners were very helpful and the house had everything we needed for a great holiday. Strongly recommend, with only slight caveat that the walk down to the beach is rough terrain and a hill on the way back so not suitable for everyone.

Mr Crouch

A wonderful place on an historic estate.

Mrs Allen

Such a beautiful and well proportioned cottage with everything you could hope for supplied inside. Peaceful, quiet and well located.

Mr Bunt

A wonderful cottage with plenty of character. Warm, comfortable and cosy, we couldn’t have asked for more. Loved the view, the Aga, and the hosts. Would love to stay again.

Mrs Lamb

Owner helpful. Location ideal for walks, cycling and catching ferries to other coastal areas in this part of Cornwall. Very quiet position with nice grounds to enjoy.

Mrs Coleman

A lovely cottage in a beautiful location with some very enjoyable walks in the surrounding area, which made it a very relaxing and stress free holiday.

Mrs Stanley

A very well equipped cottage in a beautiful spot. I hope to come again.

Mrs Van Ramshorst

We loved this pretty cottage and the freedom to roam the beautiful green estate down to the little beach. Such space and away from the crowds even during August. We loved having an aga and the comfortable beds. It was great that there were games and books for rainy days. The literature in the cottage was appropriate for the area and the nature books were lots of fun to look at with the children naming plants, sea shells and so on. Our host was thoughtful and quick to reply when we had a question. We enjoyed this stay tremendously and will be back one day.

Mrs Mathers

Little Trefusis was a wonderful retreat for our family holiday. The lovely, peaceful setting and the warm and cozy cottage meant or stay was relaxing and very comfortable. We especially appreciated the things provided for our toddler - cot, highchair, even a bath towel! And all the games and toys were brilliant to keep the little one entertained on rainy days. We had a wonderful time and will definitely return one day!

Mrs Somerfield

a very comfortable , cosy cottage in a stunning hideaway location . the owners very friendly but not intrusive

Mr Welch

The electrically powered AGA was a delightful feature particularly as we stayed in the Autumn. Possibly the TV could be renewed at some point or certainly the remote control where the on /off button was rather temperamental despite the owners replacing the batteries. However, that was a very minor issue and the overriding impression was of a delightful cottage, beautifully equipped a decorated in great style. The location and grounds were also superb, we would certainly return.

Mrs Liddington

Excellent cottage, beautifully done. Very clean, well kitted out. Welcoming hosts, we would happily return.

Mr Westmaas

A gem of a place. Welcome pack and flowers were a much appreciated touch. Great location with clear directions. Fully equipped, we wanted for nothing. Little Trefussis exceeded our expectations. A wonderful place to stay. We chose well.

Mrs Ingram

A beautiful cottage in lovely surroundings. Warm and comfortable.

Ms Jackson

Lovely setting. Comfortable and warm accommodation. Kitchen exceptionally well equipped. Fresh flowers really appreciated. Really enjoyed our stay.

Mrs Whitehouse

Super cottage in a peaceful location, welcoming hosts and a lovely garden to walk through. A beautiful place to retreat to after sightseeing and activities in the Falmouth area. Well equipped and lots of books to while away a relaxing afternoon!

Miss Kite

lovely cottage, so well equipped, great being able to walk through the grounds.

Prof Siveter

A cosy, comfortable cottage set away in beautiful gardens and woods. With a path from the property of just a few hundred yards walk direct to the sea and coastal path, it provided the perfect holiday home. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Little Trefusis.

Mr McLeod

This is an excellent location on a large private estate. The owners have a hands-on approach which makes a real difference an all of our requirements had bene anticipated before we arrived.

Ms Williams

Lovely stay at little trefusis, garden was lovely, bed and sofas very comfortable, a great trip with our baby for one of his first holidays. We had nice meals out in Flushing and Falmouth and enjoyed trips to nearby gardens. Thank you.

Mrs Brown

A lovely, peaceful, secure estate setting for a holiday let in a converted annexe of a large family house. Aga provides warmth day and night and is easy to use and really helpful in drying children's clothes quickly! Private garden and use of the grounds really add to the experience of the property as does the walk down through private woodland into Flushing. Highly recommended.

Mrs Wakefield

We had a wonderful time & plan on booking again if available.

Miss Hopkins

A lovely child-friendly cottage in a great setting. Perfect location for easy day trips around Falmouth with little ones.

Mr Gosling

Very well equipped and tastefully decorated and furnished. AGA brilliant.

Mr Watkins

A wonderful holiday in a delightful property that had everything we needed for our week's stay. Our 3 year old loved the grounds (cows in adjoining fields and the woodland walk to the beach being his highlights) and keeps asking when we can go back. The owners were lovely and introduced themselves on our first day while we were playing in the garden, they were extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. It was an ideal base to relax as a family but also to explore Cornwall by foot or car. Would not hesitate in recommending or booking again for ourselves.

Ms Lewis

I will suggest this cottage to friends and family

Mrs Johnson

Little Trefusis is a cosy cottage in beautiful grounds and in a great location to visit the local area. The owners are very welcoming and we enjoyed the walk through the wood to the beach immensely. We had a really lovely holiday in Flushing. Thank you.

Mrs Clarke

A characterful and warm cottage with plenty of space in a gorgeous location. The Aga makes it perfect for winter, whilst the door into your own garden makes it perfect for summer. Lovely owners who respect your privacy.

Mrs Platts

A very special place indeed! Flushing ws charming and the waterside pubs were great for dinner. Very child friendly place to stay.

Mr Tinsley

Really peaceful and cosy property

Mrs Johnson

A cosy and welcoming home from home. Little Trefusis is well equipped and comfortable. The walk through the woods to the beach was delightful.

Mrs Pannasch

Very comfortable. Great location with a lot of flair. Loved cooking with the AGA:-)

Mrs Thompson

Have been quite a number of times now and LT is always a delight. Even though there is a housekeeper to check that all is well, the owners also make sure everything is OK for us but they are not over-bearing in any way, leaving us to enjoy our cottage and garden and the wider estate without us feeling in any way overlooked or constrained. The setting of this cottage provides a very relaxing environment, quiet and tranquil; it's a beautiful setting. The facilities in the cottage are excellent and the Aga is a real asset as it ensures that it is always cosy when we return home and also great to cook on. It's worth noting as well that the owners take on board comments and ensure that improvements are made. It is a perfect bolthole for those of us who have to work in a city!

Mr Hay

We would very much recommend a stay at Little Trefusis. The cottage is charming and the surrounding estate is beautiful and peaceful. The owners are very friendly without being intrusive and the cottage is kept to a very high standard. There are many scenic walks around the coastal path and Flushing and its little beach is just a 10 minute walk away through the estate. The port town of Falmouth is lively and interesting and the whole area is populated by good pubs and restaurants.
