Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Dr WIGFIELD

Wonderful barn conversion with well-equipped modern kitchen and spacious heritage-feel living areas. We particularly liked the round living room which had once been a mill where a donkey walked round threshing or grinding the grain. The rural setting was quiet and the neighbouring dairy farm added to the charm. It is a little difficult to find initially with windy narrow Cornish lanes surrounding it but that helps one slow down and relax and appreciate the break from otherwise busy lives. We’ll definitely be back.

Mrs Wallis

Another wonderful stay! We have stayed a few times now and always a warm welcome and comfortable stay. The attention to detail is excellent, from the choice of furnishings and decor, to the cleanliness and little extras. Can't wait to come back!

Mr Thorn

We booked a week at Gilly Barn around our daughters graduation in Falmouth. The property is a twenty minute drive from Falmouth and ten minutes into Redruth and situated in a lovely, quiet countryside location although most shopping facilities and beaches were no more that 20 minutes away. Once off the main road the lanes do get narrow so bear that in mind if you have a large vehicle. There was parking adequate for two cars. The property was comfortable and well appointed. It has a large garden which was great for our dog to run around. The property is probably better suited to an adult family as some of the steps into the garden are steep and the garden isn't well equipped for children's play or outdoor socialising. It is however a large lawned garden perfect for a dog to run around. Contact from the owners was good and they were able to be flexible with the arrival time which was much appreciated.

Mrs Duncan

Bit remote for some but we liked it, Though having said that the nearest village was only a couple of miles away where there was a pub and shop just seemed further because of the narrow lanes. The barn was very comfortable, with everything you need. The cows coming to be milked each day was lovely to watch. All in all a lovely place to stay, very much a home from home. You will not be disappointed if you stay there.

Mrs Chanpakkee

If you like the country and views this is the place to be. No passing traffic. The property is so well equipped and clean. We have no hesitation in recommending this to future guests.

Mr Townsend

Gilly Barn is very spacious, with luxurious bedrooms and bathrooms and was left spotlessly clean on our arrival. It is in a very peaceful rural setting with lovely views and is in a great central location for accessing both coasts. You do have to be confident on the narrow local roads and there are not too many signposts in the immediate area, but you get to know your way in the end. The complimentary entrance ticket to the spring gardens at Caerhays Castle was a lovely touch and very much appreciated, as were the Easter treats left for us, we really enjoyed our stay.

Miss Aldridge

Great, well kept, spacious cottage ! In a great location to explore Cornwall with family . With a few minor adjustments this property could be absolutely perfect, will definitely return in the future x

Mrs Logan

Comfy well appointed and decorated cottage, very peaceful with great rural views we loved seeing the cows "there were plenty of them" heading in for milking. Ideal stay for our dog too he had a great time. A treat to get a nice welcome pack and very thoughtful to include the wine, much appreciated.

Mrs Kershaw

Beautiful well appointed property. Perfect location for a peaceful and quiet holiday away from the crowds but only 20 minutes away from either coast.

Mrs Wong

Lovely cottage, a lot bigger than the pictures look. The property has beautiful views. The only down side is access to the property is via very tight country lanes, about 10 minutes worth, which if your not a confident driver you could find quite tricky, but for us the stunning location made it worth while.

Mrs Scott

This was our 2nd stay at Gilly Barn and we loved it ! The space, the comfortable beds, the new kitchen and the log burner. It is easy to light and keeps the round room very cosy.

Ms Dean

Gilly barn is the perfect place to stay. Great cottage and location. Excellent facilities and very relaxing. We would highly recommend staying here.

Mrs Danzelman

We enjoyed our stay and can highly recommend this property. travelled as 4 Adults, 1 Baby, 1 Toddler plus Dog. Plenty of room for all . Due to Tracey the Housekeeper who we met when leaving the accommodation is immaculate & should be commended for doing such a great job. We used the Golden Lion once for a Takeaway , the food was fine it's a short drive down the lane . Beaches close by & Dog friendly out of season.

Mr Haxton

Great location to get to plenty of areas to explore, roads a bit narrow around the property but on takes a few minutes to get to the main ones Lovely house lots of room to use and good size garden fur the dog to run around in Would highly recommend this and wold definitely go back

Mrs Holliss

We loved the spacious cottage, and lovely views. Very convenient location for seeing loads nearby even though it is in a quiet and rural location. Close to National Trust places, pubs, seaside towns etc. We really enjoyed our stay and would have liked to stay longer. We would definitely come back again. The owner/housekeeper left us a couple of packs of biscuits/tea/coffee and milk, plus half a basket of logs/kindling. Thank you. Also the housekeeper did text us earlier in the day before arrival to say we could check in early if we wished - which was kind, but we couldn't arrive until 4pm. She checked we had settled in well which was nice of her. It would be great if there were some board games for families to use at the house (given the size of the house and as it is a family size property). The power showers were excellent powerful showers. Very nice large new white towels too. The decoration was nicely done and all in good condition. Nice clean comfortable house. The kitchen is good and large with everything we needed. The garden is lovely and big with views all around, in a peaceful location (with dairy herd of cattle going up to be milked each day in the next door farm) - so would be fab as a spring/summer property to sit and enjoy the garden and countryside views outside. Definitely recommend the Hidden Hut cafe by the beach. Fantastic location and food by the beach and coast path. Also in Mousehole 2 Fore Street fish restaurant was excellent. Lanhydrock National Trust is very interesting. There are loads of long sandy beaches nearby. Unfortunately we tried to light the log burner 3 times (as per instructions) and could not get it to light (only the kindling), even though we use a log burner successfully at home. That was a pity because the lovely round room was not that warm with just radiators (at the end of September). So may be cold in the winter. It didn't look like the log burner had been used (new and clean) so maybe other people have the same issue. There was a leaky radiator valve in that round room which we told the housekeeper about. The zip and link bed was not made up as a double (even though requested) and the beds are not that long (our feet went to the end and I am 5ft6). There were 2 single duvets which kept coming off in the night (a bit small) so worth taking two single sheets with you to put under the duvets to keep you covered. We would be very happy to go back to stay at Gilly Barn. There is so much to do within in easy reach from the cottage.

Mrs Wallis

This is our second stay and Gilly Barn, it is a beautiful property that has been very well presented and decorated, with attention to detail to make for a wonderful stay. The cleanliness throughout the property is of a very a high standard. The cottage is in a stunning and peaceful setting which is a fab location for exploring the north and south coasts.

Mrs Dewar

A superb quality cottage, beautiful decoration, interior design and exceptionally clean with very comfortable beds! A wonderful tranquil location to really get away from it all, but very convenient for visiting both the North and South coasts. I would definitely recommend and we would not hesitate to come back.

Mr Forsythe

A beautifully decorated, converted roomy barn with a homely cosy feel. Very peaceful picturesque surroundings. Lovely welcome touches like the logs for the wood burner, the flowers and the kitchen supplies. Well positioned between Helston, Falmouth and Redruth. No complaints except the narrow country lane access between tall cornish hedges, but you get used to it!

Mrs Thomas

Beautiful property, elegantly furnished and comfortable. Lovely quiet setting. The myriad of narrow lanes with no signposts was challenging and sat nav is a must, but there was very little other traffic and once we found our preferred route we were fine. Would certainly re-book.

Mrs Scott

We had the best family holiday for October half term. Perfect Barn and very comfortable. Ideal location , near to amenities, beaches and bigger towns. We loved to watch the cows walk past for milking. A good sized garden too. We have booked again for next year and we have never booked the same place twice!

Mrs John

Absolutely loved our stay ay Gilly Barn. The house was superb. Very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. Loved the quiet location and the cows silently plodding past the hedge after milking! I would recommend the property to anyone and we are all unanimous about booking it for the same time next year.

Mrs Biddlecombe

Gilly Barn is a hidden gem - once you've negotiated the narrow lanes to reach it, you will find a peaceful rural idyll with wonderful views over the countryside from the kitchen and upper lounge/diner. The lower lounge is an added bonus to this spacious property, which was cosy, comfortable and well equipped. It was a wonderful retreat to return to after exploring lots of areas of interest - so many wonderful beaches and gardens not far away. It was also fun to watch the cows trundling to and from the milking shed from either the next door field or way over the hill behind the property. Despite the roomy social areas it only sleeps 5 people but would make a wonderful place for a Christmas get together, perhaps in conjunction with the adjoining property, for larger families. We would have no hesitation in recommending this property. Jackie B, Romsey, Hampshire - September 2021

Mr Dutton

Fabulous spacious and stylish property one of the best we have stayed in. Great location for touring this part of Cornwall. Peaceful location and very comfortable.

Mr Walker

First class property and overall experience with Classic Cottages has been excellent. We were delighted with our stay at Gilly Barn, a spacious and well situated property in the Stithians area. The cleanliness, attention to detail and furnishings were all top notch; and there were several thoughtful, generous touches which were very much appreciated by us. Highly recommend!

Mrs Amy

Gilly Barn is a real find. It is extremely spacious and comfortable, and the owners have clearly put a lot of thought into the furnishings and equipment to make sure everyone has a great stay. I particularly loved curling up in the lovely bright lounge with a book when it was a little too chilly to sit outside. It is very peaceful; even the cows meandering past the bedroom in the morning don't make much noise and the cockerel at the end of the garden seems to work to a much later timetable than most. Overall I wouldn't hesitate to re-book and would highly recommend it as a place to just relax and unwind.

Mr Luke

A fantastic cottage - we had a really good two weeks there with no complaints. Would be lovely for a family Christmas too.

Dr Parker

Spacious accommodation and lovely outlook onto farmland. We especially enjoyed watching the 'march' of the cows going in for milking.

Mrs zimbango

Luxurious cottage in peaceful country setting, wished we could have stayed longer there.

Mrs Stallibrass

Nice if you're not looking for a bit of luxury but better cottages available for the price paid.

Mrs Thomas-Campbell

We loved our stay at Gilly Barn we have stayed in many holiday homes and this was one of the best for equipment and cleanliness, they had thought of everthing, it was just what we needed in these strange times we felt safe and secure and had a great time. Thank you. The house is out in the countryside with amazing views, we arrived in the dark and found it very easily even though we realised we would have been better to follow the directions supplied to us rather than the satnav. The beds very comfortable, and the shower very good, we loved our visit from the farm cats next door and we chatted and waved to the farmers next door and they went about their business of their dairy farm and as early risers ourselves we loved getting up before the cows to watch them make their way into milking each morning. We found having the two TV areas very comfortable and useful and enjoyed sitting in the very impressive round room in the evening, with the log burner warming us up. Being Nov we must have had every type of weather in one day I have never seen so many rainbows whilst staying there and such lovely sun rises and sets over the lovley view. My favourite was the sun rise view from the dinning room window behind the lovely leafless tree due to winter stunning. We made so many memories in such a strange time as the UK went into its second lockdown we were greatful to be able to finish our stay due to being already there and the phone call from the house keeper to check everything was OK and confirm we could stay as well as classic holidays confirming with us. It was a lovely break much needed and very much enjoyed best safest way to holiday at the moment and we will be doing it again.

Mrs Macey

The property was amazing a real home from home with everything you could want. In the times we are in at the moment they had really taken care in making my family feel safe, supplying cleaning spray, wipes, hand sanitizer etc. We really enjoyed our stay and we were so glad to get away even though it was 6 months late. Thank you for a lovely holiday.

Mrs White

Spacious tasteful accommodation Very well equipped Very clean

Mrs Goodrum

This was a really lovely property that we would love to return to. It was extremely comfortable with lots of space for our family party of 5 adults. There was ample room to spread out and have our own space or a choice of spaces to get together uncramped and eat and discuss the next day’s activities/play games/watch TV. We were also entertained by the frequent visits of the 2 extremely friendly young farm cats and Rocky the spaniel who found his way into the back garden by an obviously tried and tested route! It’s in a lovely quiet rural location which is also good for getting to the north, south and west coasts.

Mrs Stewart

Gilly Barn would deserve 5 stars if the obnoxious odour in the main bedroom is sorted. However as it had a detrimental effect on our holiday I would give the barn three stars.

Ms Kovacs

Very comfortable, spacious and well-equipped cottage that was ideal for a relaxing break visiting locations in the west of Cornwall.

Mrs Mitchell

We had a lovely week at Gilly Barn and much appreciated the phone call and quick service from the lady who came to change the configuration of one of the beds shortly after we arrived. The house was very clean and quite an unusual layout. We found the location good for easy access to the north and south coasts. My little grandson particularly enjoyed watching the cows coming and going from milking as well as the dog and cat with kittens from the farmhouse next door. Altogether a good experience, thank you.

Mrs Weare

Gilly Barn was absolutely amazing, very peaceful and spacious. The cottage was very well equipped and cosy.

Mrs Sankey

Once again another great Cornish cottage find, very rural ,very relaxing, very refined and a very refreshing holiday break - Thank you Classic Cottages team.

Mrs Bridgewater

Stunning property in beautiful rural position. Spacious, comfortable, clean and very well equipped.

Mrs Niblett

Gilly Barn is tucked away in a secluded part of Cornwall with rolling views of the country side, but within easy access to main attractions. On arrival our expectations were surpassed with the accommodations light and airy feeling. The barn has everything you need and more!! My husband and I stayed in August 2018 with our 11yr old daughter . She found it very exciting watching the cows stream by each morning on their way to be milked and enjoyed using the bar b cue provided for an evening meal in the large garden. We traveled to lands end, about 45mins from the barn, visited Penzance, spent the day at Flambards theme park, explored some of the national trust gardens nearby, that have beaches to discover within them, surfed at Gwithian beach ( a fantastic must see spot ) and went kayaking at Stithians resivoiur only 2 miles away. Thank you for all our lovely memories, definitely a place to recommend ??
