Reviews

This converted single-storey barn is in a peaceful, rural position on the edge of Somerset’s Mendip Hills, within easy reach of Bath, Bristol and Wells. Ashey Barn is a perfect base for a walking holiday or for visiting the historic sites of this varied county – Wells Cathedral, Glastonbury Tor and the unique Somerset Levels.

With a lofty, open plan living space and a really large double bedroom, the accommodation is particularly spacious, sitting in its own dedicated area within the extensive grounds of the owner's lovely country house. The property has its own private driveway off a quiet country lane, off-road parking and a south-facing garden – you could not find a more convenient or relaxing place to stay.

It is good to find a property for two that is so spacious, with great space outside too – French windows to the patio and a sheltered garden. The garage is for you to use – ideal for storing bikes if you wish to bring them.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs O'Mara

Lovely comfortable, well equipped and very peaceful cottage. Good base for travelling surrounding area. The owner was very friendly and gave us some good advice on places to visit. We would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage.

Mr Daker

A perfect location, deep in the Somerset countryside, with just the birds, hares and rabbits for company. Tranquility, away from a busy world.

Mr Warren

Off the beaten track, Ashey Barn is a very well equipped cottage with everything we needed. The kitchen area rather small when it came to producing the Christmas lunch for four people, but ok for just the two of us. Underfloor heating was excellent and made the place very comfortable and warm. Lighting was very good throughout. The use of the garage for storing bikes was very helpful. We would love to return in the summer when the days are longer and warmer.

Mr Jarvis

A spacious, well equipped cottage in a peaceful rural location, but within easy reach of amenities and plenty of places to visit. Having a dog, the garden not being enclosed was a little inconvenient at times, but not a major issue. We were welcomed by the very helpful owner who was keen to give us any information we needed.

Mrs Parry-Ralphs

Our stay at Ashey Barn was ok and in general the property has some plus points. It's spacious, lovely shower room, kitchen area is good and sofa is comfortable.  The area is very peaceful and we were lucky to have been visited by 3 fawns who came through the garden. It was amazing to see.  However, there are also some areas which we think need addressing: The really bad odour of dogs in the kitchen/lounge area needs to be looked at. We don't have dogs but we are happy to stay in properties where dogs are allowed, we have never encountered dog smells in other properties so I'm unsure why the odour was so bad at Ashey Barn. The kitchen table is not great, maybe a table cloth would make it more appealing to use. The bedroom also had a really bad musty odour too. We had to buy room diffusers for the lounge and bedroom to try and reduce the smells. The lamp shades in the bedroom need cleaning as does the round bedside unit with the marble top. It is thick with ingrained dust.  The carpet behind the unit was also dusty, and had dead insects on it. Hand/bath towels were a mismatch of colours, very poor quality and looked really old and used. We decided to buy some as we didn't feel comfortable using the ones in the property. All in all I don't think this cottage is worthy of its 4 star rating which is a shame as it could be really lovely but has been let down in a few areas.

Mr Daker

We'll be back.

Mrs Johnson

Spacious accommodation with comfortable bed facilities and good parking arrangements. Peaceful location with pleasant gardens

Mr Burgess

A lovely cottage in a quiet, private location. The cottage is spacious, well equipped and a very comfortable place to stay. The location is ideal for visiting the coast, Bath, Wells and of course Cheddar Gorge. Unfortunately we did not visit the local pub which is a short distance across the fields, however, we did find some very good village pubs to eat and would recommend the New Inn at Blagdon with a beer garden overlooking the lake. The cottage is dog friendly but be aware that the garden is not fully enclosed. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

Ms Maitland

This was such a warm, spacious, easy and comfortable place to stay in in winter - a real home from home (including a very well-stocked kitchen), and also very private. We imagine it would also be lovely in summer with the French windows opening on to its garden and outdoor table and chairs. We loved being so close to nature - surrounded as it is by garden and fields, but with easy access to great walks and Somerset sites of interest.

Mr Bradley

The barn is located at the foot of the Mendips and is well appointed. It is also very convenient for Bristol.

Mr Croucher

Ashey Barn is a beautiful barn in a very private and secluded garden and provides and ideal for anyone wanting a "get away from it all" vacation.

Mr Savage

Comfortable small cottage in a fairly peaceful position. Some occasional aircraft noise from Bristol Airport (which is quite nearby). Seymour Arms in Blagdon (2 miles) excellent pub food and friendly.

Mr Talbot

Good location within easy reach of Weston-Super-Mare, Bath and Wells.

Mrs Best

A very comfy, pleasant place to stay. Great facilities and lovely quiet location. Just a short way down a single track lane and once there, completely peaceful. Local walks to a pub in Rickford, Blagdon Lake and Burrington Ham. Wells and Glastonbury easy to drive to. Perfect! No WiFi but good internet via mobile phones in the cottage. Really enjoyable holiday. Flowers, a cake and tea drinking facilities to welcome us on arrival - lovely! Our third Classic Cottage stay, in different locations, and we would be reluctant to stay in other companies cottages now.

Mrs Glanville

Peaceful retreat in a lovely part of the world, and within easy reach of most of North Somerset's attractions. A very comfortable cottage, and a delight to come back to at the end of the day. Good for dog walking too!

Mrs Bufton

We enjoyed the quiet setting of the property and walks across fields and down peaceful lanes

Mr Ferguson

Fairly good location. Nice property. Friendly owner. Good pub a short walk (1/2 mile) away.

Mr Cashford

Five stars

Mrs Luckhurst

Excellent location, very quiet, easy access for walking in the Mendip hills

Mrs walstow

We had a lovely stay, in an exceptionally well equipped cottage (everything you can think of in terms of utensils is provided). The owner was very friendly, very knowledgeable of the area, and able to provide excellent advice which was greatly received (even providing a location to exercise our dog on a morning).

Mr Skinner

Very peaceful, and a very nice owner who showed us round on arrival.perfect getaway for us.

Mr Holder

I really liked the property. In fact it was better than I thought it would be, I didn't want to leave. My dog loved the garden and space she had to wander in.

Mr Holder

Really my idea of heaven, nice and quiet. Lovely and warm property. Dog settled quite quickly, and enjoyed being in the garden. Wifi would have been a nice inclusion though. Especially as mobile signal is not brilliant!

Mrs Melia

Beautiful property in stunning location. Friendly owners. Secluded, quiet and private, yet only 30mins drive from many of Somersets coastal and inland attractions. Only improvements we'd recommend would be some minor refreshing of interior furnishings/accessories to give it a fresher feel. Overall though, a super holiday property which we would love to return to in the future. Ray, Bev & Jess (our cocky spaniel).

Mrs Chartres

Wonderful location, plenty of peace and quiet. The kitchen had all we needed and the shower room was excellent. It's only let down was that it could do with a good dusting.

Mr Rybacki

The cottage is an excellent conversion of a barn, well equipped and in an excellent position to take advantage of the attractions of North Somerset. Each day started with a walk on the Mendip hills with my dog before we drove off to visit one of these attractions and ending the day in one of the pubs recommended by the helpful owner. The property does not stand in enclosed grounds. This did not affect us as our dog did not wander far but other dog owners may prefer a property with fully enclosed grounds.

Mrs Wheeler

The Barn is lovely for a relaxing holiday. Close to lots of interesting places to visit.

Mr Fox

If you are looking to get away from it all whilst still being within a reasonable drive of all Somerdet had to offer then this is the place for two.

Mr Wyatt

Really peaceful location and ideal to get away to if you live in an urban area.Lovely to see lots of bird species at close hand.

Mrs Clarke

Cottage in excellent location. Garden not secure for dogs. If you are looking for a cosy cottage this might seem a little sparse otherwise we had an enjoyable holiday.

Mr Parkhurst

An ideal cottage for a couple, in a lovely setting and well located for easy access to a good range of attractions. The cottage is well equipped and dog friendly with a secure garden.

Mr Sergio

We have been very confortable and the Barn was clean and well maintained, in line with our expectations. We cerainly will recommend this accomodation to our friends.

Mrs Farmer

If you are looking for peace and tranquility, this is the place for you. A tasteful amd comfortable barn conversion, surrounded by countryside. The barn was beautifully clean and extremely well equipt. We enjoyed a lovely relaxing break, exploring the surrounding area with out little dog. Fantastic place, highly recommended.

Mrs Matthews

If we could give a 10 star rating for this property we would.

Mr Hing

A lovely place to stay if you are looking for peace and quiet and is close to most attractions. A few local pubs which do good pub food and very dog friendly.
