Reviews

Sitting in the heart of Exmoor National Park, Week Cottage dates back to the 1690s and is all picture-book old world charm inside. A spacious boot-room, perfect for muddy boots (and dogs!), leads into the compact kitchen and beamed sitting/dining-room beyond, where soft rugs cover the original quarry tiled floors and a cosy leather sofa allows you to snuggle up by the wood-burner. Traditional steep cottage stairs lead to the bedroom and bathroom.

Adjoining the owners’ home but completely self-contained, there is a private patio and barbecue area and a gently sloping enclosed garden. So don your walking boots, grab the dog’s lead and stride off over the moors – and return to this welcoming retreat to relax by the wood-burner, perhaps stopping at the local pub, just half a mile from Week Cottage.

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Miss Trebilcock

The website was great and were helpful when I needed support in a website glitch when paying.

Ms Bubez

This was a beautifully restored cottage attached to the owners house. In spite of this I felt very private there with a little garden and bench at the front which got the afternoon sun and another fenced garden to the side. It is quite small, cozy and well equipped. The internet worked fine. The owner was very welcoming and friendly and the whole property was beautifully kept. The location on exmoor is lovely with so many beautiful places a short drive away. It is on a steep hill (be aware) and is very, very quiet apart from wildlife. A really lovely place for a quiet retreat or walking holiday.

Ms Crouch

What a perfect tranquil retreat Week Cottage is.. If you want to escape from it all in glorious countryside then this is the place to go. Vanessa and Stephen live next door and only next door if you need anything, had a wonderful welcome tea tray and a bottle of wine chilling for me in the fridge. The cottage is full of character and has a really homely feel to it.. Very cosy indeed, I loved sitting in the window seat reading at the end of the day listening to the owls... The cottage has a really homely comfortable feel to it and I didnt want to leave. The bathoom is lovely with a freestanding deep bath and the shower brilliant, the bed so comfy, had the best nights sleep ever.. Very easy to drive from here to places such as Dulverton, Dunster and Minehead.. A lovely little front garden which is secure if you have a dog, which is really helpful when you want to relax as dont have to worry about the dog wandering, honeysuckle in abundance.. Also a separate garden with picnic table and barbecue... Loved sitting under the tree and reading... Thankyou Vanessa and Stephen for my stay here and also for my sweet peas.!!!!.......I had the best holiday ever and will definitely be returning.

Mrs Drake

This cottage is gorgeous and cosy, perfect for a couple and a dog. It's in an ideal spot for exploring the local area and equipped with everything we needed. The hosts are really friendly. We ate at The Badgers Holt on 2 of the 3 nights and the food is excellent! You'll need to book in advance though as they aren't always open. Closed Wednesdays and during the day, and they serve food from opening at 6pm to around 8.30pm. Tarr Steps and Dulverton are worth a visit too!

Mr Aird

Wonderfully remote location with excellent views of the night sky but at the same time ideal for seeing all that Exmoor has to offer. Lovely hosts too! Highly recommended!

Mevr Graanstra

Mr Bates

Perfect cottage well done to the owners

Mrs Brightman

Great place to stay and explore the surrounding area.

Mrs. Gartner

Very organized "classic cottages" site. Helpful informations and reminders about your upcoming stay. Warm welcome and mindful. Many thanks for the greeting card, chocolate and the wonderful bunch of roses and the sparkling wine in the refrigerator! Was great!!!!

Reverend Abecassis

A fantastic cottage in a fantastic location - and very warm and cosy in some pretty bleak November weather. Everything was beautifully thought-through and the cottage was immaculately restored and equipped, and clearly loved. An abundance of super dry logs AND kindling for the excellent woodburner was a real bonus. A wonderful and peaceful spot - but walkers need to be aware that the lane is steep both up and down from the cottage!

Mister Sixma

No foto of the stairs,

Miss Budden

An absolutely fantastic week in Exmoor. The cottage is beautiful and in a perfect location. Our hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming and the prosecco and tea tray was a wonderful thought. We will definitely return to this comfortable country escape!

Mr Holland

This is one of the nicest places we’ve stayed in. The cottage is very sympathetically decorated and furnished, and big enough for us (a couple plus greyhound.) The heating and appliances worked well. The setting is hilly, rural and quite remote, and very quiet, so you hear streams flowing, birdsong and other natural sounds. There are some pleasant walks on the doorstep, and with a car you have access to nearby villages, pubs, and a shop. The coast isn’t far, we liked Porlock Weir. The owners are friendly and helpful, we had a very enjoyable stay.

Mrs Etherington

The best ,beautiful , cozy , warm, cottage in Exmoor. Beautiful surroundings, wildlife, walks for miles and miles . Straight up to the moors to see the ponies and lots of birds . Need some good walking boots ??. Stephen and Vanessa are so friendly and helpful, make you feel so welcome.

Mrs Caine

A warm welcome from Stephen on arrival. The cottage was lovely, warm and comfortable. Beautiful location and very peaceful. If you want to get away from the noise and busyness of everyday life, this is the place for you. No phone signal - bliss! (There is wifi)

Mrs Standing

Lovely stay at Week Cottage, very well equipped and beautiful location.

Ms Kaminski

Fabulous location, so we were able to explore all the sites we’d planned to visit, Dunster Castle is a must and The Royal Oak in Winsford serves great food. Lovely little cottage very cozy and comfortable, so we had a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The welcome bottle of Prosecco was a nice surprise thank you, Stephen and Vanessa were wonderful hosts. We would highly recommend this charming cottage a real gem. Thank you for your hospitality.

Mr Lowe

Second time we have stayed in this beautiful cottage. Extremely nice hosts, incredible location, bags of heating and hot water all day if you plan on staying during the cold, wet winter months. Best cottage we've stayed in....and we've stayed in quite a few over the years!

Mrs Sullivan

We had a perfect weekend, in a lovely location. The cottage was charming and a wonderful place to stay.

Dr Harris

Really cosy olde worlde cottage with original floor tiles and wooden shutters. Very well equipped for its size. Luxuriant towels and bedding. Cannot walk to pubs or shops (closest pub very unreliable opening) Lots of birdlife evident. Very friendly helpful hosts live next door. Garden although adjacent is accessed via two gates which is a bit of a pain with dogs or trays of food/drinks. Beautiful part of the world. A real escape from the modern grind. Boot room perfect for sorting out dogs.

Mrs York

First Class Would recommend

Ms Hornibrook

We had a magical stay at Week cottage. The location is beautiful with numerous walks on your doorstep. Vanessa and Stephen provide a warm welcome and are attentive but not intrusive. The cottage itself is very comfortable with everything you could need. We didn’t want to leave but came away refreshed and happy with some lovely memories. Excellent in all ways.

Mr Rogerson

Excellent base for Exemoor

Mr Bartlett

Having now stayed at Week Cottage on four separate occasions, we can thoroughly recommend this very picturesque destination for anyone and their canine companion who wishes to experience Exmoor and the West Country at first hand.

Mrs Pierce

We spent a lovely few days before Christmas at Week Cottage with our pointer. It's a small but perfectly formed cottage - perfect for relaxing, walking and just generally unwinding! Hard floors and doors in sensible places mean muddy feet and dogs aren't ever an issue, the wood burner was a real winner (especially with the dog) and there's more conventional heating too so we were super warm and snuggly. As others have commented, the owners are discreet but on hand as required and very responsive if needed - a new kettle arrived almost as soon as I mentioned the one there wasn't working and their advice on walks much appreciated. Beautiful part of the world. On piece of advice - do check the pubs are open before you set out on that long hike ;)

Mrs Smith

Fantastic hosts, lovely surroundings, ideally placed for walking. Well equipped, cosy and peaceful.

Mr Hammond

9th July 22 . Had a wonderful holiday at Week Cottage , very quirky ,clean and comfortable , and if your looking for a relaxing and peaceful holiday then Week Cottage is the place to be . Stephen and Vanessa are on hand to help with any enquiries, very friendly and knowledgeable . Highly recommend . Dulverton, Dunster Castle , Tar Steps , all worth a visit .

Mr Bailey

Very good.

Miss Cook

The male host, S, was especially friendly and nice, and the cottage is cute, in a beautiful setting near the moor. It was also nice to have a clotheswasher and dishwasher, and it was clean. They even flew the flag of my country for my arrival, which I found touching. But unfortunately, the heat kept shutting off in the middle of the night such that I woke up every night that I was there due to the cold. This happened even when I set the heat right before bed. The bed itself was also uncomfortable, and that coupled with the lack of heat caused me to start to get sicker than I've been in years. It got severe enough that I knew I had to leave to go to a place with consistent heat and a decent bed if I wanted to get well, and so I wound up leaving about 6 days early. I'm sure the cottage can be great in warmer months, if the bed is replaced with something comfier and a longer heat program is established.

Mrs Etherington

Beautiful location, beautiful scenery, beautiful cottage. Lots of lovely walks from the door step , ruck sacks on , packed lunch and flask and off you go ! We an amazing weather , sunshine and a dusting of snow . Stephen and Vanessa are superb hosts , very friendly and approachable . So quiet and relaxing sitting in front of the log burner reading and listening to the buzzards and birds after a long walk . Booked again for October!!

Mrs Pagett

Super cosy cottage , the owners are lovely and met us when we got there , Vanessa took the trouble to show us where everything was in the cottage and it was lovely and warm inside when we arrived . We had a great weekend break and would love to return . Highly recommended,

Mrs Johnstone

Cute cottage in fab rural area. So peaceful and Exmoor is a 10 minute walk up the lane. Just lovely.

Mr Dunstan

Week cottage is a lovely little cottage, we had a wonderful relaxing time there. Everything was available, we wanted for nothing. Steve & Vanessa were lovely, very friendly and help. We’ve booked again for 2022

Mrs Roberts

We had a fabulous holiday the cottage we had everything we could want Steve and Vanessa were amazing. There is such a lot to do and see around the area we were out every day we watched Steve breaking in a young horse which was amazing. The cottage is well appointed and in a beautiful location perfect for dog walking and those seeking piece and quiet amongst nature we hope to return soon to the delightful cottage and country side of exmoor

Mrs Onn

Despite a power cut due to Storm Arwen bringing trees down which meant no heating or water for 12+ hours, every effort was made to make sure I was comfortable. I got up to find a litre bottle of water on my doorstep.as soon as information was available on how long the power was going to be off there was a further supply of logs for the wood burner brought to me. I lit the burner, loaded it up and went out for the day. Power came on at least 4 hours later than expected but I had eaten out at lunchtime and had brought back enough food for the evening. The wood burner had kept the place warm and I had been kept informed of the power company progress (or lack of it).

Mr Tullett

Great little cottage for two in a good location for exploring that part of Exmoor. Very cosy accommodation, quiet, peaceful location and friendly, welcoming hosts.

Mr Scott

This a marvellous location for local walks and exploring all the sites of Exmoor. The hosts Stephen and Vanessa are wonderful hosts warm and friendly with a lot of local knowledge.

Mr Wright

Week Cottage is a lovely rural retreat in a quiet and unspoiled location. It is perfectly placed to access all parts of Exmoor and we especially recommend nearby Dulverton, and Bossington on the coast. Ideal for a quiet week away from it all in a cosy and rustic hideaway.

Mrs Leonard

Lovely dog friendly cottage in location near best Exmoor walks.

Mr Johns

Week Cottage is beautifully situated with lovely walks straight from the door. The owners are friendly and helpful and a great source of local information. If you want to have a rural retreat this is the perfect spot, we cannot recommend it highly enough.

Mr Kimber

Lovely peace and quiet hardly any traffic noise as it’s a no through road. Away from phones and tech with time to breathe and listen to nature. A retreat. Steve and Vanessa kindly let you share their space.

Mr Butcher

The owners are very helpful and great hosts. Tar Steps , Lyton / Lymouth a must.

Mr Oxley

Very friendly hosts. Great place to get away from mundane daily life. Ideal for walks on the moors. Plenty of places to see and visit

Mrs Harrison

A wonderfully tranquil location and super, cosy cottage for two - a great place to go and recharge your batteries. We did a fabulous walk to Tarr Steps from the cottage and would have done more of it hadn't been so muddy on the moor!

Mrs Hall

The cottage is cozy, warm and homely. We would love to stay again.

Mr Mehta

A well presented and comfortable cottage for two. The owners were welcoming and helpful. I am recommending it to all our friends and we will be back.

Mrs Charles

Perfect spot for a couple to be based to enjoy Exmoor. Also ideal with a dog as enclosed garden and no carpet for muddy paws back from a walk Lovely warm cottage beautifully maintained and decorated in keeping with age and style of property

Mr Bonser

Staying at the (listed cottage was like going back in time, a fantastic experience. Didn't need technology, tv, Wi-Fi, telephone, internet, supermarkets etc. Just how it should be and how we used to manage. Really relaxing, stress and hassle free. Just old fashioned country life. Brilliant. Many thanks to Vanessa and Steve

Mr Jones

Peace and quiet in splendid countryside.

Mr Robinson

Beautiful cottage in fantastic setting. Great if you like country side views and abundant routes to walk.

Mrs Davis

A pretty location with friendly helpful owners.

Mr Brown

We had the most glorious relaxing break at week cottage. Located in the most idyllic spot up a no through road what more could you wish for to get away from the crowd. Yet only a couple of miles from Dulverton which has everything you may need. Lovely owners who are there if needed but we did not want for anything. The cottage ticks every box and was so cosy we didn't even have to bother with the log-burner. We will definitely be back............. and probably quite soon.

Mrs Pankhurst

Central secluded atmospheric relaxing and revitalising.

Mr Trebett

Great location for walking, just note how steep you are up.

Mr Lambert

The property was delightful and charming with all sorts of interesting features and artefacts. The cottage was warm and snug with excellent central heating, a lovely log fire and lashings of hot water. We chose possibly the worst week of the year to stay as we got snowed in from the second night of our stay until the end of our holiday which had to be extended by one night without extra charge. However, the care and kindness of our landlord and landlady, Stephen and Vanessa, meant that we had all the provisions needed for a very comfortable stay. The cottage is in an idyllic location and we would definitely recommend it to friends with an appreciation of rural life and historic dwellings. There is wonderful scenery and moorland walking and the area is rich in picturesque villages with dog- friendly, welcoming pubs. Sadly, the snow curtailed our exploration of the area but we will definitely be back!

Mrs Sandham

We found the cottage very comfortable and the owners friendly. Suitable for the dog and some lovely walks in the area.

Miss Robinson

Stephen and Vanessa were very accommodating and helpful. Thank you for a lovely mini-break.

Mr Götz

Such a lovely cottage. All the small details in it were so cute. Really nothing to be missed. Every single feature made with love from the owner. The hosts Vanessa and Stephen are so wonderful, helpful people. We loved their company. And also the lovely animals around were so cute. The surrounding was so calm. Also the Exmoor experiences we had were so close to the cottage and a dream for people who like being in the nature. After discovering the Exmoor we loved to come home in this beautiful cottage. Thank you Vanessa and Stephen. We will never forget this holidays. Christiane and Siggi

Ms Glover

A cottage that will make your holiday very special.

Miss Pilgrim

We had a wonderful stay at Week Cottage. It was warm and cosy and had everything we required. Absolutely terrific place to stay if you like walking. The owners are lovely and very helpful.

Mrs Pettitt

The cottage is so cozy and comfortable. A perfect getaway for two in a stunning central location. Stephen and Vanessa have thought of everything you could need and provided it. We've stayed there 3 times now!

Mr Easterbrook

Mrs Insall

Cottage charming, cosy and well equipped. Owners friendly , helpful but not obtrusive.A walker's paradise!

Mrs Cockett

We would highly recommend the cottage to anyone that wants to retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life outside, and go into the calm and serenity of this wonderful hideaway. This is the most wonderful cottage in superb surroundings.

Mr Jacobs

Please allow me to do that in German language: 400 Jahre altes wunderschönes Cottage in traumhafter und abwechslungsreicher Landschaft.

Mrs Etherington

This is a charming , quaint, little cottage which retains a lot of its original features. Beautiful location with walks on your doorstep to see lots of wildlife and fantastic scernery . Owners Stephen and Vanessa are so lovely and helpful. A fantastic choice if you want to relax and get away from it all .

Mrs Shepherd

An adorable little cottage on Exmoor, well worth a visit!! Such beautiful little touches,we wish we could have stayed longer, it was so well equipped, the kitchen had everything I looked for and the bed was so comfortable, you really didn't have any trouble falling asleep after a day exploring the area. We would highly recommend this cottage, ideal for two people and our dog Ernie. I loved the candles! One night we had dinner by candlelight, it felt like we had gone back in time and so charming! Another hit Classic cottages, you never disappoint us. Thank you.

Miss Stewart

Steve was helpful with anything local we wanted to know. Didn't asked us once if everything was OK about the cottage! The cottage wasn't all that clean. Lack of cooking bowels, utensils, no clean film, foil, kitchen towel. The washing up spong looked old and worn. And no bar of soap to bath with. From the main photo you use, you have the owners cottage in it too. This looks like the whole of the cottage is for holiday let and it's not.

Mrs Walter

Keep it exactly as it is, the location is superb and the layout of the cottage, though small, is so comfortable.

Mrs Turner

A beautiful cottage in idyllic setting far enough off the main road to make it an oasis of calm. Just to enjoy the peace and quiet amd when you're ready there is plenty to see and do and not too far to drive. Great Owners too.

Ms Brown

A de!ightful cottage, warm and well equipped with very thoughtful and friendly hosts. Would love to stay again.

Miss Farrell

We had the most spectacular stay at Week Cottage, not only was it clean and cosy, it was our ideal home. Everything we needed was there, including a lovely bath tub and shower, endless supply of hot water and wood for the lovely fire. The walks were breathtaking and the surroundings of the cottage were incredible. Our dog was in heaven and so were we. The owners were very helpful and we felt right at home the moment we walked in. We cannot wait to rebook, this time for a lengthier stay.

Dr McGauran

Week Cottage is beautiful, perfectly located and has wonderful hosts in Stephen and Vanessa. We loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway to the beautiful Exmoor National Park.

Miss Fardell

In these days of information overload what a relief for the clarity of the Classic Cottages Web site.

We loved our stay in Vanessa`s and Stephen`s cottage and its peaceful and quiet location in Exmoor.

Mrs Harrison

New to Exmoor and Stephen the Owner who is a country man, pointed us in the right direction to get the most out of this experience!

Mr Weir

Perfect place for a quiet mid-winter break in the heart of the Exmoor National Park - secluded location, lovely walks, good pubs, cosy fire!

Mrs Barton

Very comfortable! Very peaceful and quiet but in easy reach of interesting places to visit and good eating out

Mr Thomas

Excellent quiet location with good access to Exmoor walks and coast.

Dr Poulter

We were told in a voicemail on the way to the cottage that the single track road to the property would be closed from early morning to evening during our stay, for roadworks. Effectively we had to be out early , back late and had no access to the property during the day. Heavy resurfacing lorries and wet tarmac and noise. We feel we should have been told in advance about this and given an opportunity to cancel and move our booking elsewhere. The owners went on holiday for the week and left early on the day we checked out 'to go swimming' leaving a scribbled note on the car. We are VERY upset and had our holiday spoiled. We will think twice about using this company again.

Miss Puleston

Week Cottage is fantastic and a great place to stay for a relaxing break. The cottage is warm and cosy from the minute you wake up. There are fantastic walks and views. The roll top bath was sensational with steaming hot water to soak in. The log fire added the perfect final touches. Our dog loved it as much as we did! Cannot wait to return.

Mr Christmas

Have stayed for a short break at Week cottage once before and were very pleased when it was available for the few days that we were able to get away this Autumn. Location is perfect for exploring beautiful Exmoor and a short drive from good pubs for eating out. Week cottage is cosy and warm with all the facilities that we required for a relaxing break.

Mr Cartwright

The property was perfect. Peacefull and supplied everything needed. The hosts were extremely helpful and friendly. Couldn't have asked for more.

Mrs Croll

It was delightful, cosy and comfortable.

Mrs Mathiesen

We would like to recommend the Week Cottage to other tourists who are looking for a cosy and peaceful place on Exmoor. It's a remote place but offers lots of possibilities to explore the Exmoor, the coast and beautiful villages.
