Duck's Puddle Shepherd's Hut
At the heart of a farmstead in the Quantock Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Duck's Puddle enjoys its own enclosed and private setting, complete with a hot tub and little bridge over the stream. Hidden in a very private setting, this lovely shepherd's hut looks up across farmland towards the hills and woodlands of the Quantocks and is an ideal hideaway for a couple and a four-legged friend.
If you can tear yourself away from your own private retreat here, the Quantocks are criss-crossed with ancient footpaths which take you up to the wild spaces of the high open heathland. The traditional villages that are dotted throughout this area give you plenty of choice for eating out in welcoming local pubs. Try The Rising Sun at West Bagborough for a wonderful Sunday lunch - best to book first or visit the farm shop at Bishops Lydeard for provisions for a barbecue back at base camp, followed by a starlit evening in the hot tub.

We loved returning back to Ducks Puddle to have a peaceful break away. Like before, the Hut was spotless and well equipped. Ducks Puddle is in an ideal location and provides a peaceful environment. We can’t wait to book again for next year!
Mrs Saunders
Absolutely beautiful location, very peaceful. We couldn't enjoy the walks we'd intended on doing due to an injury sustained during our holiday so we intend on returning ?? The shepherd's hut is very cleverly organised with plenty of storage space. We enjoyed the hot tub and watching the cows in the field opposite.
Miss Glassar
Everything about this place is perfect. The location is idyllic, the hut itself is immaculate and has everything that you need and more. The hosts are lovely and very accommodating. I would recommend this place to everyone. We really loved it and will definitely be returning.

We found a gem. The owners greeted us when we arrived, very friendly and showed us where everything was. The hut was beautiful, cosy and spotless. Had everything we needed for a relaxing few days. The weather was amazing so we sat out on the lawn watching the lambs play. The hot tub was a bonus and was a great way to spend time relaxing. The scenery is amazing here and wildlife beautiful. Thank you we will definately book again.
Mr Tailby
Lovely quite place to stay. The Hot Tub was so good to chill out in during the evenings. Great hosts who even helped with a special request for a birthday treat for my wife.
Mrs Toogood
Top marks for this amazing place. The owners were lovely people. Nothing was too much trouble. The hut was beautiful. Bed comfy. Everything you needed in the hut. The hot tub brilliant. Clean and checked everyday. Beautiful setting. So peaceful. Only noises are the cows snd birds. Some lovely fresh eggs and bottles of wine from the owners. Lots of lovely walks around. Will definitely be back!
Mr White
A very nice stay. Welcoming us was sue to help us settle in. We enjoyed the isolation and setting, ideal to walk on the quantock hills. The garden was enclosed allowing our dog to wander freely and interact with the cows over the fence. Hot tub was lovely to relax in after a day out. Would definitely recommend.
Miss Wlodarska

Mrs Brett
Duck Puddle is a quiet, relaxed and private Shepherds Hut that is dog friendly and safe. It has a fully enclosed green space with a lovely hot tub and views across the neighbouring field of cows (friendly and nosey!), rabbits (shy) and the wooded Quantocks less than 5 minutes walk away. The local wildlife is fun to watch whilst loitering at your outside dining space with a G and T in the evening. The hut itself is fully equipped with all you need(Fridge, cooker, shower, wc, bed etc) and is very well appointed and comfortable throughout. Don't be surprised if you find the local chickens wandering around outside your hut at times as they do like to visit. The hosts Sue and Terry are friendly, informative and chatty and you may find little gifts such as freshly laid eggs left outside or even fresh figs and do ask Terry about his cider although be warned it will knock your socks off! We had the opportunity to assist in feeding the cows and even got to bottle feed baby goats whilst admiring the large duck pond. It is quite idyllic. We had a wonderful relaxed week and returned home fully chilled and recharged and we will certainly return in the future. Did I mention the goats?
Mr Beesly
Amazing hosts, beautiful setting, Sue and Terry very friendly and funny, Terry's sheep sheering skills gave us no end of pleasure. Will definitely go again.
Mrs Purkiss

I picked Ducks puddle for my other half as a Christmas treat for our holiday break in February. I would say for sure I was being very picky as it needed to tick so many boxes and when we arrived I was so impressed even in the winter weather the pictures on the classic cottages website did not do the idyllic little hut justice. It has literally everything you could possibly need and more! Firstly the underfloor heating, was luxurious. But we couldn’t wait to get the fire going as we don’t have one at home and it was one of the reasons why I picked this beautiful place…. ‘While sat in bed evening or morning over looking a log burner in action!’ We knew we were here to chill too so it was a must to relax with a hot tub, and we used it every night… no matter the weather with it’s under canopy it was just perfect!! The kitchen does. Have everything although we only used it for breakfast mainly, and an added surprise of fresh eggs was a total delight… all 6 went in one sitting!! obi dog get his share too!! I can not rate this place enough and I will for sure be updating a review later online and telling many of our friends and colleagues how perfect this place is as a getaway from everything (even though we are from Cornwall and that isn’t quite hustle and bustle of major city life) ! This place was just magic and we will be returning!! Thank you so much Sue and Terry for being so welcoming and lovely. With showing us how everything worked and the little treats left and the eggs!! Terry thank you for showing us the Hobbits hut and that lovely walk up to the old school past the massive oak tree of 900 years old!! Thank you again! We will definitely like to return
Miss Wrieden

Mrs Mitchell
Fantastic place, great for a relaxing mini break.
Mr West
The location is perfect. Behind the working farm but well thought out with separate drive and totally secluded. Fantastic view and cows munching on the grass in the field in front of us. Totally idyllic. Owner is great, nothing too much trouble. Wine and chocolates on arrival, great touch. So many nice touches in accommodation.
Mrs Moye
The property did not dissapoint in any way great hosts and very clean great hot tub all round excellent experience
Miss Maris

Ms Shuttle
Sue and Terry were fantastic hosts, and gave us a good welcome. This is the best 'glamping' site I have ever experienced, a true luxury shepherd's hut! The hot tub was incredibly effective and modern and was a joy to soak in every evening before dinner. I can't fault it at all, and would love to return for a longer stay next time.
Mr Pile
We really enjoyed our stay at Ducks Puddle. It had the peace and tranquility we were looking for and the hut itself is well appointed and we didn't want for anything. There is also a small bbq. Sue and Terry were lovely hosts and made sure we had everything we needed. The location is great, right on the doorstep of the Quantock Hills and there are nice views of the countryside from the hot tube! Plenty of nice pubs around to visit, with the New Inn at Halse probably the best food, and the nearby Foxy Bean cafe for coffee and cake is a must before/after a walk.
Miss Whittaker
Thank you to the wonderful hosts who were kind enough to leave delicious snacks and wine for our arrival and advice about places to visit. We really enjoyed this much needed relaxing break!
Miss Brazier-Pascoe
The location was perfect for a get away weekend. The Hot tub , and wood burner were the icing on the cake . The surrounding woodlands and traditional country villages were amazing too go too and walk around . I will definitely be booking a holiday for Summer 2021

Mr Cavalli
The property was lovely, we had an amazing view of the surrounding fields and the hut backed onto a field of friendly calves! The hut was exceptionally clean, and we had everything we needed including tea, coffee, pots and pans and the owners gave us fresh eggs from their farm. Would highly recommend a stay here!
Ms Armes
Our stay at Duck Puddle was amazing we can’t say Thankyou enough, from the moment we arrived Sue & Terry we’re very welcoming. we had a bottle of wine, biscuits & chocolates in the hut and then the following morning we had some fresh eggs yum yum. We arranged for our food delivery the evening we arrived & Sue was more than happy to direct them to where we were staying. There was everything you could think you would need even a hairdryer (great as I forgot mine), wood for the fires, bbq coal and even doggy towels, the bed was very comfortable and waking up in the morning with the view over the fields was amazing, The hot tub was an added bonus which we used every night overall a fantastic holiday we can’t wait to go back
Mr Bennett
This really was the perfect getaway for a few days. This stunning shepherd's hut is tucked away in the middle of nowhere, and it really was absolute bliss - we just wished we could have stayed longer! The host was lovely, and had baked us some delicious cupcakes upon our arrival and left a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. Such generous touches. Each and every detail had been thought of, and even though the weather precluded any extended enjoyment of the outside table and chairs, the accommodation was magical.
Mr Palmer
The shepherd's hut and setting were exactly as presented in the photos. What we didn't expect were so many thoughtful touches, from his and hers crocs for walking to the hot tub to fresh eggs for breakfast. Absolutely everything had been considered from the guests' point of view making this a truly comfortable and enjoyable stay.
Mrs Luck
It was a really good holiday ,it was peaceful ,Terry and Sue were very good hosts ,the shepherds hut was equipped with every thing that you need. On arrival we were given a bottle of wine cakes and fresh eggs biscuits, and chocolates. I don't think that we could find a better place to stay with a Hot Tub to finish the days off ...Hope to book the shepherds hut next year 10 out of 10
Miss Peachey
Had a brilliant week in the Shepherds hut. Would absolutely stay again and recommend to anyone!
Mr Willey
This was a last minute booking just what I was looking to find for my wife as a surprise peaceful break. Boy did it deliver ! she was over the moon with its charm & peacefulness. I can say it was even better than I had hoped for doing far more than it said on the Tin ! We were so sold on the Shepherd's hut & loved the hot tub evenings … we wont our own .. but you`d be pushed to find a more suitable spot to relax away from everything that stresses you out. Sue was lovely and welcoming making sure we were comfortable but respecting our privacy. We will certainly be going back to Ducks Puddle Simply ideal many thanks to Sue & Terry for making it possible.
Miss Atkinson
An overall perfect escape to the country. A very peaceful and beautiful place to unwind from everyday life. We would go back in a flash.
Mrs Seager
We had the best time at Duck's Puddle, it is just the most perfect place for a couple and their dog. We were incredibly lucky with the weather - the sun did not stop shining - and went on some fabulous walks, some straight from the hut up into the Quantock Hills, some a little drive further into the Quantock Hills (we parked at the nearby Lydeard Hill car park and explored Wills Neck and beyond) and also ventured onto the Brendon Hills of Exmoor via the sweet village of Luxborough - all were absolutely beautiful. We spent the late afternoons chilling in the garden and the evenings relaxing in the hot tub under the stars. Definitely have the holiday blues now and can't wait to go back!
Mrs Smith
Perfect retreat for a relaxing getaway! Hosts lovely, shepherds hut beautifully decorated and maintained!
Miss Alford
Ducks Puddle far exceeded our expectations, everything had been thought of and the little extras (wine and cakes!) left by the owners made it feel like a real home from home. Best long weekend ever. Immaculately clean and lots of nice touches like the underfloor heating and USB chargers in the sockets. Very well equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom. Think I could've stayed forever.
Mrs Price
