Reviews

Keepers Cottage is ideally located within the beautiful grounds of Ellingham Hall which has an impressive history and is often enjoyed by wedding guests . Where you can enjoy a stroll in the woodland, watch the children play in the nearby treehouse play park and where the friendly village pub with a restaurant is a short walk away. This spacious, reverse level, semi-detached house is perfect for a family getaway or get together.

Step into the porch, where there is space to hang your coats and leave your muddy boots, then into the spacious hallway. To the left you will find the utility-room with washing machine and freezer while straight ahead is the fantastic kitchen/diner with French doors onto the garden. The well-equipped kitchen boasts a range cooker, Tassimo coffee machine, a fabulous Belfast sink and views over the lawned garden. The farmhouse table with six chairs is a lovely place to share a meal and make plans for the next day's adventures. To the left of the kitchen head down two steps to the sun-room where you will find beautiful floor to ceiling windows and another set of French doors which open to let in the fresh air.

Along the hallway to the right is bedroom one, which boasts a large walk-in wardrobe, along with a fully-tiled bathroom. Wake up to the sun peeping through the trees, or on the other side you may catch a glimpse of a friendly peacock or two strutting around the garden ready to show off their beautiful plumage.

Take the elegant stairs to the first floor and you will first encounter the spacious sitting-room/games-room with views of the chapel connected to Ellingham Hall, here you could enjoy a game of table football. Why not have a competition over the holiday, or if it's more relaxation you are after there is plenty of comfy seating where you can gather together and catch up on your favourite shows on the Smart TV which has Freesat.

To one end of the room two steps take you down to bedroom two with two double beds and a sofa, a great place to enjoy some peace and quiet. There is an en suite shower-room adjoining this bedroom.

At the other end of the sitting-room you will find bedroom three mirroring the one below. There's also a bathroom which has a bath and separate shower while the bedroom has great views through all the windows. The Velux windows are perfect for gazing at the stars in this Dark Skies area.

Outside you will find a large lawned garden with a table and chairs for al fresco dining. You could make use of the charcoal barbecue to whip up a meal of local produce from one of the many farm shops nearby. Or you could just relax in one of the four reclining chairs.

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Dearden

A lovely place and very spacious, there were 6 of us and our cavapoo Florence and found it lovely. Not far to drive to the areas of interest and the little pub up the road was great. No shop though but that didn't bother us, took lots of supplies and the welcome hamper much appreciated!

Mrs Boardman

Keepers Cottage was very well appointed all the equipment that you need for a home from home. It was clean and tidy, i was quite surprised to read comments from a previous holiday maker who said the property needed a radio as the T.V both in the lounge and kitchen have all the radio channels on them. The telephone reception was very good for your mobiles. The hall with the weddings behind the property was no problem yes there was music now and again but nothing that would distract anyone from enjoying the amenities after all who would not enjoy a bit of music in their life !! The peacock which came to the property everyday was a joy to watch. Lynn and John February 2025

Mr Jones

Great spacious property in great location. Close to coast and local attractions. Definitely a cut above most properties we have stayed in. Would recommend.

Mrs Turnock

Keepers Cottage is a well equipped and really comfortable place to stay. We found the location of the cottage to be excellent and we could easily travel to beautiful locations by car. The cost of hiring the cottage was quite expensive but the furnishings and equipment were so good and the cottage was so comfortable and spacious. It was perfect for our number of people and we all had our own space.

Dr Cooper

This was our first visit to Northumberland and this turned out to be a good location for many of the things we wanted to do along the coast and inland. The cottage was extremely spacious and well equipped and the beds very comfortable. It was perhaps a little less peaceful than we had envisaged when booking (although we were told about the nearly Wedding venue a few weeks before our holiday). There were three Weddings during our week and some music noise late into the evening but overall not too much of a problem and I would consider booking it again.

Mrs Poppy

Beautiful house in the lovely village of Ellingham. Very spacious and very well equipped for a great family holiday including our little dog Ted who loved the large garden.

Mr McQue

More than exceeded expectations.

Mrs Taylor

Keepers Cottage was simply perfect. Our second time booking with Classic Cottages who will now be our go to for all UK holidays. Firstly the location is fantastic, everything we wanted to see in Northumberland was on the doorstep. Bamburgh Castle, Alnwick, Holy Island and the glorious Farne Islands to which we took a boat trip and marvelled at all the grey seals. The cottage itself is immaculate and so spacious and well laid out that as a family of 5 (including Grandma) we weren’t on top of eachother and could retreat to our ‘wing’ if some me time was needed. Everything you could want to make this a real home from home has been provided. The kitchen is better equipped than my own and having a seperate utility was great for washing the kids dirty clothes. We all slept like logs and enjoyed watching the peacocks patrol the grounds. There is also a gem of a pub literally a 5 minute walk away - The Packhorse with its cosy log burner and delicious food was a real treat on a cold February evening. Needless to say we didn’t want to leave and are already planning our return!

Mr Doull

A fantastic property with a great location for exploring the Northumberland coastline and a great local pub within walking distance. Some minor issues on arrival were reported to Classic Cottages and were quickly sorted. A return visit to Keepers Cottage is definitely planned.

Mrs Chell

We enjoyed a wonderful, peaceful holiday in this charming house. The kitchen was spacious and enabled me to cook delicious meals every evening. Shopping has to thought about, butcher and fresh fish. Book a supermarket delivery for your arrival day.

Ms Brown

We really enjoyed our stay at Keepers cottage. The property is very large and spacious and in a great location. All the places we wanted to visit (Bamburgh, Alnmouth, Lindisfarne, Alnwick) are no more than a 30 minute drive from the property. The only downside is the proximity to the wedding venue, we found the music from this to be very noisy on two nights and disruptive to our sleep. Not ideal when you have a toddler. When we booked we were aware that it was close to a wedding venue but did not know it was immediately behind it and therefore did not anticipate the level of noise.

Ms Bowden

We have stayed in many self catering places but we both agreed that this is probably the best we've ever had. There's plenty of space indoors and out, and the decor is lovely. Comfortable beds and a very well equipped kitchen were welcome. It's only about 5 miles from Beadnell - a delightful beach - but there are plenty of other fabulous beaches within a short drive as well as plenty of castles and gardens. Alternatively, it's a great place just to sit and enjoy the garden or the local countryside. Having a pub within walking distance that served excellent food was a bonus! And it's dog friendly! Perfect.

Mr Shrapnell

We stayed in the cottage for one week in June. We found it to be very spacious, well equipped and reasonably comfortable. It has plenty of parking space at the front and is located within easy walking distance to an excellent pub called the Pack Horse Inn which offers extremely good food and quality beers. One thing to be aware of is the presence of free roaming peacocks around the property which although beautiful to look at they do tend to be quite vocal especially early morning.

Mrs Dickens

Beautiful cottage in good location. Lovely beaches and scenery wherever we went. Enjoyed our stay and would return.

Mrs Littleproud

The accommodation is excellent. The rooms are large and light and there is plenty of room inside for families to meet together or have time alone. The surroundings are superb with great walks locally or a short drive away. The peacocks add a further dimension to excellent surroundings. We had a great holiday.

Mr Cummings

Excellent geographical location with a lot of things to do close by. The property was very clean with an excellent welcome pack. Be aware that the property is close to a wedding venue.

Mrs Healey

Enjoyed our stay at Keepers Cottage, lovely location, very comfortable and spacious. Very well equipped, everything you need for a self catering holiday. Would definitely recommend and would love to return.

Mr White

The cottage is well presented and in a lovely rural location. However, activities at the adjacent wedding venue including deliveries and maintenance work can be intrusive.
