Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.
Mrs Taylor
We were delighted with our stay at Moorhayes. A beautiful renovated barn, with everything we needed. We wanted to enjoy a quieter location, and walking our dog through the countryside. We enjoyed the luxury of the hot tub, so beautiful on a clear starry night. The underfloor hearing in the barn was really efficient, and we did have to light the log burner to indulge in the full experience! And scones, cream and jam were a lovely welcome. Thank you so much!
Dr Herrenden-Harker
We enjoyed a very comfortable and relaxing stay at this lovely spacious property. The hot tub provided a real treat at the end of the day. The owners were extremely helpful and welcoming.
Ms Smith
FANTASTIC DOG-FRIENDLY COTTAGE. Moorhayes is a fantastic dog-friendly cottage in a VERY secluded location (Which is what we look for to cater for our very anxious rescue dog). It was exactly as described on the website and we couldn't fault any aspect of the cottage itself - Very well appointed, very comfortable - and very cosy. We had a great stay. We particularly liked: The hot tub and the fantastic 'dark skies' views. The overall level of furnishing and equipment. The quietness. The appreciation by the owners of the needs of our anxious dog. If we had one criticism then, for us, it was the drive to the cottage once we'd left the main road. Whichever way we tried to approach the cottage it was impossible to avoid travelling for around a mile to a mile and a half down VERY narrow (single track) lanes with poor visibility and very few useable passing places. With a medium size SUV it wasn't easy, or pleasurable, having to make the trip twice every day during our stay. This did detract a little from what, overall was a great stay in a lovely cottage.
Mrs Huson
Really enjoyed our stay at Moorhayes. Excellent accommodation in peaceful surroundings.
Mrs Clarke
Wonderful barn conversion. Spacious, peaceful, warm and homely. Only thing that I would say is that Classic Cottage policy on dogs let us down. We added one day and for that additional day they charged us for a week for the dog but not for us? We paid £72 for a week and 1 day for the dog. I challenged this but it is their policy so beware of this if you are extending your stay by even 1 day with a dog with Classic Cottages. This is NOT an issue with the owners of Moorhayes who were absolutely wonderful hosts and I would highly recommend Moorhayes for anybody wishing to stay in a well located area for exploring Devon.
Mrs Nuttall
Had a fantastic Christmas & New Year at Moorhayes. Fresh scones, clotted cream & jam, fresh flowers and a decorated Christmas tree on arrival. The owners were great, even lent us a playstation so we could watch DVD's that Santa brought. We love to cook, the kitchen was excellently equipped, even a knife sharpener & garlic press. We had our old dog with us & although the garden is fully enclosed we kept him on a lead as he's not in the best of health & didn't want him running around. There are so many things to do in the area but you need a car as it is quite remote. Listening to owls & star gazing from the hottub was a delight. We enjoyed our Christmas break so much we are going back again for this Christmas & New Year
Mrs Gregory
House was lovely, great secure garden for our dogs . Loved the hot tub. Very peaceful and quiet, lots of birds in the garden including blue tits nesting in the outside vent of the bathroom, lovely to hear the chicks and see the parents coming and going. Also seen a bull finch a few times. The house is way out in the countryside but we did manage to get a takeaway delivered!
Mrs Westerman
Excellent stay here very peaceful and private, the hot tub was much appreciated, the garden is perfect when the sun is shining. Location wise you do have to travel a bit to most places of interest, but the scenery is beautiful and the roads are interesting! The bedrooms are very spacious and comfortable and the addition of the en suite as well as the bathroom is helpful. Well equipped kitchen. Would definitely return and recommend.
Mrs Maling
This is a beautiful, spacious cottage perfect for families. Location is quiet and peaceful and the large enclosed garden is fantastic for dogs. Hot tub is a great way to unwind in the evenings. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn’t really find any fault anywhere.
Mrs Simpson
We enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful week at Moorhayes. The property is very comfortable, well-equipped with everything you need, and beautifully decorated. The garden is lovely and the hot tub is a real bonus! There aren't any facilities in the village of Broadwoodkelly itself, but that doesn't matter as there are options nearby and we did an online Waitrose delivery which was very easy. Plenty of interesting places to explore not too far away and there is a very helpful folder of information and leaflets in the cottage. We met our host, Alison, who was lovely and very helpful but left us to enjoy our holiday. All in all, a beautiful place to stay and we would definitely return.
Mrs Frost
If you want a quiet break away from it all, this house will certainly provide that. It was comfortable and had a safe secure garden for our dog. Plenty of walks from the house but beware narrow lanes and potholes if you wish to explore further afield. We didn't use the hot tub but I can imagine that it would be nice in suitable weather to lie there and listen to the sounds of nature all around. Lovely home made scones on arrival together with clotted cream, jam, milk, sugar and tea was just what we needed after a painful journey with two accidents holding us up! We enjoyed visiting Castle Hill Gardens and had a great walk along the river and gardens at Okehampton.
Mrs Grimwood
Moorhayes is in a lovely location, peaceful and not overlooked at all. Also very well equipped - but no hairdryer, so take your own! Fresh flowers and scones on arrival which was a really lovely thought. We had a really warm week but sadly couldn’t open the lovely patio door to let some fresh air in, due to so many wasps flying around the apple trees in the garden and trying to come into the cottage. Additionally the folding patio doors were locked other than a single one, and there was no key to be found. Bathrooms could benefit from a deeper clean but otherwise cleanliness was good.
Ms Norton
You won't be disappointed if you choose this cottage with a peaceful location down narrow country lanes. The cottage is well appointed with excellent facilities, lovely kitchen, large comfy beds, and has the added luxury of a hot tub. We had no phone signal but could use the Internet for calls. Would definitely recommend this cottage if you like to get away from it all. Lovely woodland walks within a short drive
Mr Coulson
Beautiful cottage, very secluded and peaceful. Lovely owners who were very helpful.
Mr McCreath
Fantastic property, v friendly owner and incredible outside space and secure garden perfect for dog owners. Also very private location.
Mr Weyns
Beautiful cottage in a very peaceful location, spacious and well equipped. The hot tub was fantastic!
Mrs Clark
Lovely property with rural location. Nice touches from the owner and the hot tub was just what we needed! Would recommend to family and friends. :)
Mrs Sweaton
This is a characterful property in an idyllic location with amazing sunsets and stars literally on the doorstep. In the midst of the gorgeous Devon countryside Moorhayes provides a feeling of seclusion and complete privacy but at the same time wonderful hosts (and locals) make you feel welcome. Within easy reach of Dartmoor and the coast, this is a fabulous base for exploring and relaxation.
Mrs Hopkins
Beautiful cottage and very peaceful location. We arranged a Sainsburys grocery delivery. The kitchen had all the equipment we needed for cooking so we cooked most nights. We visited Lydford Gorge (National Trust) and New Inn Country Pub at Sampford Courtenay where the food was lovely. Also the hot tub was great. Would love to return!
Mrs Treweek
We had a fantastic stay at Moorhayes. Location is lovely and peaceful with an enclosed garden which was ideal for the dog. The cottage itself is spacious and well equipped - it had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The hot tub was perfect and very relaxing. The owners were friendly and available to answer any questions we had but also left us to enjoy our holiday. We highly recommend Moorhayes and would love to visit again.
Miss Middleton
Moorhayes is a lovely cottage in a beautiful, peaceful location. We really enjoyed our stay.
Mrs Sorrell-Kaur
If you are looking for something special tucked out the way with luxuries of hot tub, peace and quiet and a short drive to beeches and days out then this is the perfect place. The hosts were wonderful and there were plenty of additional little touches that made the stay just perfect. Thank you so much, we finally feel as though we have had a relaxing holiday and our batteries are recharged!
Mrs Page
A relaxing stay in a beautiful rural location. We would highly recommend this cottage for anyone who is seeking tranquility in a peaceful setting.
Mr Sneddon
The cottage exceeded our expectations in every way. The accommodation amazing and the surrounding countryside was beautiful. The local villages are all a short drive away and other attractions are under an hour away. We were really sad to leave and will definitely keep Moorhayes in mind when planning any future trips.
Miss Mowatt
I would say if your thinking about booking moorhayes do not hesitate, we had a fantastic stay, hot tub was brilliant, beds were super comfy and huge i didnt want to get out of it, the place is away out from shops etc, which is so peaceful, theres everything u need in moorhayes if u just want to come away n relax, but you can venture out, most things arent to far and some lovely local pubs. Xx
Mr Burnett
Lovely cottage and a great base for exploring Dartmoor and the rest of Devon.
Mrs Green
Secluded, peaceful and rural location. Nice walks. Views over looking endless rolling fields. Accommodation well maintained with the luxury of a hot tub to return to after a days adventure and exploration.
Mr Whalen
Lovely cottage great location top quality facilities
Mr Dembitz
Just outstanding in every way! There was a lovely welcome card and flowers from Alison & Darren …such a fabulous touch…..AND scones! Everything was in good working order - excellent sheets and towels, beds, showers, and hot tub. And total tranquillity. The cottage is the perfect size for 4 - Alison and Darren have furnished it with care and taste. Cannot recommend enough.
Mr Bracey
If coming back to this area, would certainly try to book Moorhayes again.
Mrs Gilbert
Excellent barn conversion in a lovely peaceful location, with the added bonus of a hot tub. We'll definitely stay here again.
Miss Drake
It was a wonderful, very well equipped property & we very much enjoyed our stay. Lots of beautiful countryside surrounding the area & perfect for walks. Very quiet area so is perfect for a peaceful getaway. The hot tub was brilliant & the owners were very helpful with providing more fire wood, towels & advice about the area. Would definitely stay again!
Mrs Love
Lovely cottage in a really peaceful location. Great for a family of 4, lots of things to do within half an hour drive. We were very well looked after by the host and really enjoyed our stay here.
mr kirton
This cottage provided the perfect base for exploring the nearby moors, villages, affording that peace and quiet after a long day exploring.
Mr Harrison
Had a wonderful week away from all the chaos. Thankyou so much. Just what the doctor ordered. Batteries well and truly recharged. Thanks once again. xx
Mrs Worthington
we thoroughly enjoyed everything about moorhayes, it is beautiful barn that has absolutely everything you might need. It is extremely well equipped. The garden and surrounding area is gorgeous, loads of space for children to run and play, our grandchildren loved it. I have no doubt we will go again.
Mr Lovelady
Such a peaceful remote feeling retreat. We managed to avoid seeing anyone for days, perfect. We were reluctant to leave the cottage and return to the real world!
Mr Boesten
Our family of four had a lovely time at Moorhayes, it is a perfect hideaway in the Devon countryside, spacious and well equipped.
Mr Carey
Bathroom locks need attention as does the hand rail which came loose at the top of the stairs. Both sofa seat cushions very flat and need replacing. Cooker hob hood filters very greasy and need replacement. Advice a 4 slice toaster required as accommodation is for 4 person's. Otherwise a lovely located cottage and we would return.
Mrs Winwood
Beautiful, spacious cottage in a quiet location. Friendly, helpful owners who left a cream tea for our arrival. We enjoyed our stay & would certainly recommend this cottage.
Mrs Willis
We have just come back from a wonderful week at the Moorhayes, where we had a lovely welcome visit from the owner who made us feel extreamly welcome. We loved every moment at this property. Very clean, beautiful, comforable, quite location and everything we needed was there waiting for us, especially the home made scones with jam and clotted cream. If your looking for a trip to Devon then we would highly recommend you look this property up.
Mrs French
We had a wonderful week at Moorhayes (29th June 2019) It's quiet solitude was just what we were looking for. Reading in the garden with birds, rabbits and cows for company was perfect for us! The clear night sky was a wonder to behold...no light pollution. It's in the middle of nowhere (well that's how the man in the cycle hire place in Torrington described it!)...but this is what makes it perfect. You have to drive to the shop or pub... but quite honestly it doesn't take that long to get anywhere. The house literally has everything you would need and is beautifully appointed. Darren and Alison left numbers and popped in to make sure we settled in OK...and left a cream tea for our arrival! We can see ourselves re-visiting Moorhayes...but then we have said that about every holiday home we have booked through Classic.
Mrs Evans
We had a really lovely holiday at Moorhayes. It’s a lovely barn that’s been well converted and had ample space four our family of four. The wrap around garden was great fun for the kids as were the cows poking their heads through the hedges! The barn had everything you needed and was very comfortable. We had a very warm welcome from the owner and she kindly sent back a toy that had been left behind. The surrounding area was beautiful. We would highly recommend a stay at Moorhayes.
Miss Stewart
Excellent cottage to relax and switch off in. It was bigger than expected, usually this size would be a three bedroom, so it felt airy and spacious. Thank to Alison's recommendation we had a fabulous walk in a bluebell wood. Well equipped cottage, it felt looked after and well maintained, even a housemartin in residence. 50mins to Beaches at Bude and Widemouth, along fairly good minor roads.
Mrs Webb
Moorhayes is a gorgeous cottage in a lovely quiet area. We would recommend and definitely stay again.
Mr and Mrs Lodge
The only holiday cottage we have ever rebooked. We live in a quiet rural location and while Moorhayes suits us, it may be a bit out of the way for some, otherwise please see review from 2014!
Miss Ffrench
We had a very enjoyable short break at Moorhayes Cottage over the Christmas period. The owners kindly put up and decorated a Christmas tree ready for our arrival, and a lovely cream tea was also laid out - really thoughtful touches. The cottage feels like a home away from home and has clearly been renovated and decorated to a high standard. Kitchen well stocked with crockery etc and the beds exceptionally large and comfortable. Absolutely no problems during our stay, and for any queries Alison and Darren were readily available on the telephone. The cottage is 20 mins drive from Okehampton which has all necessary shops & supermarkets. A further 20 mins drive is the lovely market town of Tavistock, or Lydford Gorge (National Trust). We also went on a 5 mile walk directly from the cottage, through the surrounding villages. The area has a quiet, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. I am hopeful we may return for another holiday at this cottage as it was so delightful.
Mrs Tolmie
Amazing place, spotlessly clean & fantastically well equipped. We were met with fresh baked scones, cream & jam & a warm welcome from the owners who couldn’t be nicer & more helpful. This is probably the best place we’ve stayed in & we wouldn’t hesitate to come again & highly recommend to anyone. Best place we’ve stayed in, so impressed.
Mrs Potts
This is a beautiful barn conversion with high-end fixtures & fittings. It is in a quiet, peaceful location which makes for a very restful holiday. Close enough to lots of interesting places to visit but lovely to get back to the cottage each evening. Really big garden which sets the barn off well. The owners were very welcoming and friendly. Plus the cream tea on arrival was a great touch.
Mrs Gibbons
Moorhayes is an amazing holiday home. So peaceful you defiantly come home chilled and relaxed.
Mrs Gilbert
If you are looking for a peaceful and tranquil cottage, Moorhayes is the place to stay. Very comfortable and everything you need. Lovely garden to sit in with the great weather we had. The owners are welcoming and friendly, thank you for the welcome gifts.
Mr Rigby
Classic Cottages tend to be our first choice. Yet again our choice of “ Moorhayes” with the description of the cottage has not let us down. The pictures do not give the marvellous sense of space, comfort and sheer joy of being in such a wonderful place. What a welcome to fresh scones, butter and jam. On arrival you will feel “ at home” Your in the depths of Devon countryside, time to read, visit or enjoy that late evening chill out moment with a drink or two at this cottage. Enjoy you will not be disappointed.
Mrs Rowe
Had a lovely week at Moorhayes it is a beautiful Barn conversion in a lovely setting.Would highly recommend it.
Miss Grace
The property was immaculate and a wonderful place to stay. It was a lovely touch to arrive to home baked scones with cream, jam and milk in fridge. The Easter chocolates hidden round the house was great fun. Owner was really friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful family holiday. The coast was easily accessible as well as Dartmoor. The Tarka Trail was brilliant for cycling with kids. My only complaint is the house was so lovely and cosy, we could not make use if the wood burner! Thank you
Mrs Murphy
What a lovely place to stay for complete relaxation in a tranquil location with beautiful and comfy furniture.
Mrs Parker
An excellent cottage for a stay in this part of Devon
Mrs Watson
A wonderful cottage , second time here, Alison and Darren are so helpful and their welcome gifts much appreciated.. We shall return again
Mr Dalzell
A superb cottage in a peaceful and tranquil part of Devon. The village of Broadwoodkelly nearby has a lovely church that we visited. The cottage fittings are top notch and the underfloor heating a lovely way to heat the house. Wood burner on hand if required! Beds are massive and the whole feel of the place is gorgeous. We received a lovely warm welcome from Alison and her two boys and felt that we were in good hands! Some great walks locally along peaceful country lanes and the beaches of North devon are about an hour away. Westward Ho! was great even on a cold windy day. The waves crashing against the rocks made such a beautiful deep thunderous sound! Nature at its finest! Overall a super cottage. Highly recommended.
Mrs Swales
Lovely quiet barn conversion. Very well equipped and comfortable. Good location for Dartmoor or the coast.
Mrs French
A really clean, stylish and well conceived property that guarantees a super holiday
Mr Barnes
Had an amazing time! Darren and Alison were lovely and Moorhayes was the perfect place for a week away. Would recommend and book again ??
Mrs Thomas
Beautifully converted barn, and extremely comfortable bed. We loved watching the great variety of birds that visit the garden. It is a lovely peaceful location. Although being in the heart of the country, an hour or so drive an you can visit the coast of both Devon and Cornwall, so the best of both worlds.
Mr Gurd

Mr Hilton

Mr Squires
This is the best cottage we have been in by far. Spotlessly clean, home from home. Made very welcome by the owners. Very private and peaceful. Everything you could possibly want for a relaxing holiday.
Mrs Owers
This is one of the best cottages we've stayed in and surpassed our expectations. Lovely warm welcome with cream tea and flowers. Provided a paddling pool and hose for us. Really clean and comfortable and easy to stay in. We'd like to have stayed for longer. Really great experience. The location is out in the sticks and very secluded. We chose it for the seclusion and the garden for the children to have fun outside. Also so that we could visit both North and South Devon and even Cornwall if we wished. The down side of that is that everywhere is a 40 + minute drive away - but we'd worked that out before booking. It would have been nice to be nearer to a pub and/or village shop but that wouldn't stop us from booking again.
Mr Stocking
A lovely place to go to get away from everything. Nice and quiet with lovely walks in the countryside.
Mrs Gambles
This is one of the best cottages we have stayed in. The cottage was spotlessly clean and every need was catered for. The cream tea on arrival was a special touch from the very friendly and supportive owners and we look forward to returning some time in the future.
Mr Lodge

Herr Harnack
A very warm welcome by the owners Alison & Darren !

Very comfortable barn located in lovely countryside. Perfect escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life.
Mrs Batt
Very comfortable and warm. Lovely owners, ideally located for exploring all of Devon.
Mr Hather
Very nice property, clean well equipped , spacious & ample private parking off road. Allison was very welcoming & helpful with local knowledge. I would suggest using a sat nav to negotiate the labyrinth off narrow lanes ! Overall an excellent holiday home & location to explore the surrounding area.
Mrs King
We chose to stay at Moorhayes as we were looking for a quiet location that would allow us to enjoy the local area. We were also looking for a location that has walks locally that had a pub within 5 miles!Tthe property was excellent.
Mrs Ball
Really lovely conversion + great peaceful location = great holiday !
Mr Moon
Myself and my partner stayed at Moorhayes for a week in May and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cottage was immaculate, every room has been finished to a high standard with all the modern amenities you could want. Our hosts were very pleasant and attentive. The surroundings are lovely and it was very easy to find. We would recommend this to anyone wishing to visit the area or looking to escape to the countryside!
Mr Smith
Beautifully appointed barn conversion in serene Devon countryside. An excellent base for visiting the area. Lots of useful information provided by the owners. Although the property is in a rural setting because of it's location and aspect views from the property are fairly limited.
Mrs Lilly
A lovely property set in a peaceful location and finished to a very high standard. The owners were very friendly but unobtrusive, they supplied us with a yummy cream tea for our arrival. I would definitely recommend this property.
