Mrs McKeon
Cottage is lovely. Clean and very well equipped. Lovely fluffy towels too The balcony was a real bonus as the cottage is secluded so we could enjoy the surrounding countryside Downside is that it’s almost a mile down a part unmade, pot-holed drive Games room was nice for the kids if they don’t expect too much from it We had a great stay and would recommend
Mr Johansen
Thoroughly enjoyed the stay very peaceful and relaxing.
Mrs Hodges
We didnt have a very good stay. The fridge was broken. Our dogs kept escaping from the "enclosed' garden. We were under the impression it was a remote property and didnt realise we were joined to the offices so tractors, vans etc kept coming and going. The wildlife in the surrounding woods is good.
Mrs Burley
A wonderful setting and very dog friendly, although the steepish stairs were a little difficult for our Jack Russell terrier, who is getting on a bit. The directions given to help us find it were spot on. The woods are beautiful if rather muddy (take wellies!) and we spent several nights listening to the owls hooting before we went to bed. It’s a very spacious property with a good secure garden and the decking would be a wonderful to use in the summer. We did manage to sit out on one day. The Wi-Fi signal was good, which kept the teenagers happy, but phone reception is patchy. There is a long drive from the road down to the cottages and the track can be quite rough in places, it’s also quite a distance to any larger shops, but the fridge freezer is a good size and will accommodate a family sized shop and there are plenty of cupboards. We cooked 5 nights out of the seven and there was enough kitchen equipment etc to make it easy for us to make a meal for up 10 of us as family members staying in Grenlecott joined us in the evenings. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable break despite the unseasonably wet and windy weather.

Amazing upside down house in a great and quiet location with the cracking views across the forestry, the property is well equipped and very spacious. The veranda is a great place to spend taking in the evening sun and night sky, plus the endless supply of wood kept the log burner going to make it toasty inside. The Games room, Treehouse and lookout towers were enjoyed by all ages. Not far from coastal beaches to do surfing with Freewave in Widemouth Bay and also a must is Dragon Archery nearby for a great afternoon outing. Sam and Partner are very friendly and always around if you need anything.
Mrs Nash
Lovely property (barn conversion with a contemporary feel) located on a farm down a long drive so you’re a long way away from a road (no traffic noise). The house is well equipped. We used the main bedroom which had a huge bed and the biggest bath I’ve ever seen in the en-suite. The wood burner, in the upstairs lounge, made for a lovely atmosphere on the cooler autumn evenings. The big garden is enclosed and was ideal for our two collies to run around in. There are walks right from the doorstep around the farm. We drove to Tamar Lakes to walk the dogs (easy, flat walk around a reservoir) which had a nice little cafe (check their website as the cafe is not open every day although the lake is). We also went to Sandymouth Beach (nice cafe here too with a National Trust car park) and we walked along the beach and the cliff tops to Bude. We also visited Arlington Court (NT), Staunton Sands Beach and Marwood Hill Gardens which are old haunts of ours, all dog friendly but took approx 50 minutes to drive to these as the roads are tiny and windy! Loved our stay here and hope to return. Thank you
Mr Taylor
Lovely property and we really enjoyed our two week stay in the August heat wave! Lovely spacious and well equipped cottage with and upside down layout (bedrooms on ground floor). This allows the cottage to take best advantage of the massive elevated decking which really is on of the best features of this cottage. Very friendly owners on site who were happy for us to explore the 212 acres of woodland. The access road to property is quite poor in places with significant rutting and pot holes and could potentially damage cars without good ground clearance. On the plus side, because of this remoteness, you get fantastic dark night skies - perfect for stargazing! The setting is beautiful and tranquil but there are a couple of points people should be aware if they are wanting a total escape: 1) there are a few other holiday lets in the vicinity so be aware you could be subject to noisy neighbours. 2) this is a working farm and they produce kiln dried timber. The kiln is adjacent to the decking of Forest View so if the kiln is operational then there will be a low level (and to be fair unobtrusive) background noise.
Miss pettman
We travelled with 3 adults and 3 border collies. The cottage was lovely and the decking veranda and gardens were a real treat for the dogs. The owners were very welcoming and available if any problems should have arisen. They did not but it was good to know. Lovely location. Great accommodation. Fab stay. I would recommend to anyone with dogs with walks from the doorstep and lots of dog friendly beaches within 50 min drive. The garden is secure but not escape proof if you have a determined fur baby.
Mrs Hodges
unusual cottage being upside down, lovely views from the top balcony. A great place for dogs to walk in the forest.5 adults and 5 dogs had a lovely time there. Sam the owner very helpfull
Mrs Chisholm
It is a working farm so dress for mud. The tree house was fabulous the kids loved it. Wifi connectivity great but no cell phone connectivity. Good functional kitchen.
Mrs Poole
The ideal retreat for dogs. We have 2 dogs, a German Shepherd and a St Bernard and we are always nervous of going places with them as not everyone likes big dogs, but this property was spacious enough for them and Sam, the owner, made us all feel welcome and made it clear to us that we could wander anywhere on his woodland and the dogs did not need to be kept on a lead, which was great fun for the dogs and a relief for us. Please note when you venture off his land dogs should go on a lead and also if by any fields with sheep in. The woodland is vast so you don't need to go off his land really, there is so much to explore. Wellies or good walking boots are a must, as are dog towels, it is muddy. The outside balcony area for this cottage is such a great space, we sat outside most days as the dogs had to be washed off after every walk so it was better to have them outside drying off in a clean area rather than having wet dog in the house. Our holiday was in October but the weather was still mild and sunny most days.
Mrs Stanbridge
Forest view is a lovely property. We found it very clean, comfortable, spacious, homely and well equipped. It’s an excellent location off the beaten track. The log burner with loads of logs provided was perfect for our November stay. We would definitely book to stay here again.
Mrs Dodd
The photos of the property really didn't do it justice. It was beautiful. The fresh air and surroundings were absolutely fantastic! We particularly loved watching the stars at night and keeping an eye out for the barn owls and bats. Sam and his partner were so friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We can't wait to go back!
Mrs Dacre
Highly recommend this cottage especially if you want peace and quiet, surrounded by wildlife. We enjoyed our stay immensely, sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine was idyllic.
Mrs Sheridan-Foster
Great stay at this fabulous cottage with our two dogs. Had everything we needed and more. Stunning views, was magical watching the barn owl at night and the deer graze in an evening. Perfect base to explore the area. Lots to explore from the doorstep too. Large open plan living area including the lounge which is not obvious from the photos which make the lounge area look small. It isn’t! Wood burner was great. Outdoor deck also great when the weather allowed. The garden isn’t dog proof really but owners will put fencing up if asked to make it more secure. Couldn’t fault the place. We loved it and will be back one day!
Mrs Holloway
Absolutely fabulous. Beautiful cottage with a huge balcony which is a suntrap, and as there is no light pollution so the sky is full of stars, so a great place to sit at night. Wonderful surroundings away from it all, lovely garden which is dog friendly but not quite secure for smaller dogs (Jack Russell size probably), but the garden is lovely, our dogs thoroughly enjoyed it, happy dogs, happy humans. Can't wait to go go back.
Mrs James
A stunning property in beautiful surroundings , always something new to discover in the woods it is set in . Forest View is an amazing place to stay , everything has been thought of from the comfortable beds to the fully equipped kitchen . Sam the owner was extremely helpful throughout our stay . A great find .
Mrs Lyne
Owner very friendly and helpful and a wealth of knowledge about the surrounding area
Mrs Haines
The photographs of the lovely living area do not do it justice - it's bigger & nicer than it looks in the photos. The entrance hall is a brilliant place for the dogs to sleep & also to dry out before going upstairs. There is no carpet on the stairs so we ended up carrying the old dog up as she tended to slip on them. The garden is pretty secure though the small "back " gate could do with some netting on the bottom ( like the big gates have) as if you had a small dog it could get under. Our spaniel got underneath but luckily came back when called. Really good area for walking ,though I found the forest very dark & claustrophobic. Lovely & quiet & the balcony off the lounge would be a fantastic place to sit in the summer. The bath in the en suite of the main bedroom is huge but there is not enough water to fill it. Shower was lovely. All in all a great place to take 2 mad springer spaniels!
Mr Edwards
We had an amazing week at Forest View. Really enjoyed sitting on the deck looking over the treetops and exploring the forest surrounding us. Also great walks further afield from the property. A very peaceful location, a well equipped property and welcoming hosts. If you enjoy the great outdoors you will love staying here!
Ms Spiers
This is an idyllic spot for peace and quiet. It's in the middle of acres of woodland where you can seem to roam without meeting anyone, despite there being other cottages. The children (13 and 11 years old) loved the freedom to wander. The excitement of finding and playing in a huge tree house with rope swing. The garden had plenty of space for games. Our dog was beside himself with excitement at all the new smells and freedom to run wild. We saw deer in the forest and badger tracks. Sam is extremely friendly and helpful. Note to anyone who wants to go to Dragon Archery, it is extremely popular and books up about 3 weeks in advance. There are several ponds and we manged some wild swimming in one. From the raised veranda at night the stars looked amazing. It felt like a real get away from it all and relax place. Thank you.
Mrs Hoyle
We loved the remote, rustic feel to this property. It is set on a forest farm and the outbuildings and farm machinery add a real 'get away from it all' charm. The large garden is really beautiful and we enjoyed many evenings playing football with our son until it got dark. The open plan kitchen/living area is such a great space and fully equipped. The large upstairs decking area is stunning to relax with a glass of wine, looking out to the forest views. The owner is friendly and on hand for anything you need. We had a lovely week at this peaceful retreat. I am happy for you to publish what I have written in the 'liked' box.
Mrs Yorke
Fantastic week at Forest View. Sam the owner was very helpful and friendly. We saw lots of the barn owls, walks around the tracks etc. Terrace was perfect for sitting out on and the night sky was just amazing with no light pollution. Plenty to do in the area with beaches, coastal walks, bike hire at Torrington. Husband found the swimming ponds on site and had a few dips! Would definitely recommend
Mrs Leadbeater
Very friendly and helpful owner. Just be careful that your dog does not escape!
Mrs Puddephatt
Lovely stay at Forest View for a family of 3 generations. A working tree farm with lots of forklift action which entertained the little ones and lots of wildlife to be seen if you’re lucky enough. Comfy property down a very long, and in places rough, driveway. Loved the kitchen and the huge raised decking. Be mindful of noise of an upside down house. Great stay, would recommend to those loving remote locations and dog walks.
Mrs Harris
This is our second holiday at Forest View and it was very relaxing and comfortable. We were able to unwind and enjoy the solitude of the ‘tree top house’. The host was very welcoming as always and we loved coming back to a little bit of luxury after a day on the beach at Northern Burrows. The space was very safe and loved by everyone including the dogs.
Mr Boult
Highly recommended
Mr Elliott
A very comfortable away from it all property...the deck was amazing for late night star gazing and the log burner made the cottage very cosy on chillier nights. The owner was very helpful, thank you.
Mrs Crook-Mcdonough
Forest View is remote and idyllic for these current times. Perfect for those with dogs, although for older dogs the stairs may be tricky. Walking amongst the trees was quite magical and soothing for the soul. Able to distance from the world but plenty to do quite locally if you wished to-we walked parts of the Tarka Trail, visited Instow beach and Westward Ho! The weather was kind to us so a delightful break amidst the current mayhem. Sam, the owner, who planted the forest is a very nice chap and around most days for a chat or any issues. Would recommend.
Professor Sines
An excellent holiday location and property
Miss Toogood
Forest View is a beautiful, quiet, relaxing retreat with everything you could need. Beautiful surroundings and an excellently appointed house. The kitchen was perfect for cooking Christmas dinner, we had everything we needed, and the owners even put a beautiful huge Christmas tree up for us! The beds are luxurious and soooo comfortable, and the bath in the ensuite is big enough for 2 small children to swim in!! A wonderful place, credit to the owners who were friendly and helpful. We will be back!
Ms Harvey
This was amazing! Best holiday rental we’ve had. One suggestion, stairs could be carpeted as they were a bit slippery. Other than this everything was amazing, the quality of everything provided could not have been better. We shall definitely be returning. X
Mrs Hillier
We stayed with our young baby and both lots of grandparents. All found the house very comfy and a good home from home for our holiday. Great decking area once the rain and wind stopped! At night you can hear lots of owls all around which I loved! As based on a farm, there were a fair few flies getting in to the house, so worth taking a fly swat with you, not an unbearable amount though. Owner was very helpful with our queries. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family.
Mrs King
Spacious good looking property in a quiet location. Challenging drive to and from property set 'off the beaten track '! Ideal to get away from it all.
Mr Rowbotham
Had a lovely stay at Forest View. Loved the location, the peace and quite. Good sized property and one of the nicest double rooms we've had. It has the biggest bath ever, if we had brought an elephant it would have easily fitted in and been able to turn around . Very well equipped and furnished. A real get away from it all property. Excellent. We'll be back. Not yet had a bad property with Classic. Thank you.
Ms Houston
Forest View is in a stunning location, if you're looking for a peaceful get away this is the place for you. The cottage has lots of room, is well equipped and has a cosy wood burner. The balcony off the sitting room is huge and totally enclosed so your pets are safe to have a wonder around and watch the wildlife. I can imagine in the summer it will be a relaxing sun trap. Take your wellies and have a lovely walk through the forest, there is so much to see. We will definitely return to this property. Thank you for a wonderful week.
Mrs Hinton
Fantastic cottage in a stunning location. Would definitely recommend!!! We have used classic cottages a couple of times now and both times we have been incredibly happy with the service provided and the fabulous accommodation - will definitely be recommending to friends and family :) Log burner, location, decking, stunning views, well-equipped, friendly owner, games room, plenty of toilets, utility room, layout of the cottage - felt really spacious and had good stand alone lamps, which are often lacking. All round lovely place to be.
Mrs Bennett
The cottage exceeded our expectations!! It was tucked away in an idyllic spot, tastefully decorated and so quiet. We went out and about during the day and returned late afternoon to relax on the decking (we had great weather for late September) before enjoying a bath à deux (its a HUGE tub) and then settling in front of the fire. Highly recommended.
