Reviews

Close to some of north Devon’s best surfing beaches, Orchard Dene is in the heart of the lovely village of Georgeham, with two good pubs and a shop within walking distance. The sandy beach at Putsborough, adjoining Woolacombe, is just over a mile away.

This detached, family-friendly house offers a cheerful kitchen/diner, a sunny summertime sitting-room/playroom and a further sitting-room with a multi-burner, making this a cosy retreat for autumn holidays too.

The bedrooms and family bathroom are upstairs. Orchard Dene fronts one of the village roads, but at the back has a huge, fully enclosed sun-trap patio. Steep but safely gated steps lead down to the garden beyond, with its fabulous open-air unheated swimming pool.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Francis

Clean cosy cottage with a beautiful pool in a lovely unspoilt village. The owner Mrs Meek is charming and very knowledgeable. The lanes around Georgeham are very narrow in places but most have plenty of passing places. Two excellent pubs just up the road both serving great food.

Mr Treacher

Olde worlde cottage situated in a pretty village, with 2 excellent pubs, just a short drive from beautiful Putsborough Beach, with free parking permit. Comfortable and homely inside, with good size rooms, equipped with everything you need. Large private patio, with a garden and swimming pool beyond. Highly recommended.

Miss McManus

Excellent service from classic cottages. Highly recommended

Mr Parsons

We had a very good holiday and the cottage provided for all our needs.

Mrs Frisby

This cottage was spotless, is well equipped and has everything you need for a wonderful stay. The garden is a real sun trap so it was a lovely space to sit and relax and the pool was warm enough by the afternoon. The kids loved it. The location is great; lots of lovely beaches nearby and also lots of family attractions nearby to enjoy. We loved Exmoor zoo and a bike ride on the Tarka trail. The village is great: a village shop, 2 pubs which serve food and a park with playground/football pitch provided us with everything we needed nearby. We had a brilliant stay and the parking permit for Putsborough and the lovely swimming pool really made it an amazing, well-priced holiday!

Mr White

Lovely cottage in a lovely village with lovely owners!

Mr Rickards

Orchard Dene has everything you'd expect from a cottage holiday. Relaxing or dining in the courtyard is a pleasure. This was our second visit and the host Mrs Meek was once again very helpful. Putsborough beach is fabulous and not very far but requires careful driving. However familiarity will sort that out as the lane has many passing places. The nearest supermarket is Tesco in Braunton but all the main ones deliver, including Waitrose as far away as Okehampton! We used also the village shop (use it or lose it). Likewise the local buses, free with your bus pass. Overall we can thoroughly recommend Orchard Dene.

Mrs Gegg

Comfortable and in a perfect position.

Mrs Jenkins

Fantastic stay at this comfortable and spacious property. The friendly owner generously allows use of their lovely swimming pool, and the patio dining area is a beautiful sun trap - we ate outside every evening! Thoughtful extras such as parking permit for Putsborough Beach was very gratefully received. Walking distance to very nice pub with good food.

Mrs Rickards

The owner Mrs. Meek was very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was immaculate and the best equipped for kitchen pans, trays etc and sharp knives that we've had. Georgeham is still very much a village and Putsborough Beach, only 1 mile and a quarter away makes for a great day out. We have already booked again for next year!

Mrs Grove

We had a lovely stay at Orchard Dene. The property met all our expectations and I honestly couldn’t fault it! Mrs Meek (owner) was friendly and accommodating- she wasn’t ever intrusive, but we knew she was on hand if we needed her. The cottage was beautifully clean and well equipped and we felt very at home. We were very lucky with the weather and got to enjoy the pool - it is chilly but that didn’t bother my 7yr old and husband and I wore a wetsuit when I went in - and we ate all meals at the table outside in the courtyard, which is beautiful! The location is perfect for getting to the beach (the parking permit is a huge added bonus!) and we enjoyed a few meals at the Kings Arms as well as day trips to Arlington Court Gardens and Broomhill sculpture gardens (we had our dog with us). The beds were comfortable and despite being on the main road through Georgeham, we didn’t find things too noisy and had the bedroom windows open at night. It was a great family week away and we hope to return.

Mrs Jones

A little treasure tucked away in Georgeham!! Minutes from the beach (the beach parking pass an added bonus for walking the dog) and has the peace of a village. Masses of space and the pool a bonus! Already coming back!

Mr Treacher

Very comfortable cottage with parking and a large sunny patio, plus the added bonus of a swimming pool! Georgeham is a picturesque village with 2 good pubs and easy access to Putsborough beach. Highly recommended.

Mrs Walker

Great location, helpful owners and very comfortable accommodation.

Miss Brealey

We had a fantastic week at Orchard Dene. Swam in the gorgeous pool every day despite some rainy weather and the log burner kept us toasty in the evenings! The two local pubs were welcoming and did lovely food. Used the local bus service to have a day out as well as making use of the handy car park permit for Putsborough beach. The village is lovely and nothing was too much trouble for the owners who live next door. NT car park at Baggy Point was great for a walk also. Really enjoyed our week and will look to return to Orchard Dene in the future.

Mr Howard

We had a lovely week at Orchard Dene. The property was spacious for two adults and two teens. The pool was a big hit and we swam everyday. The village is lovely with shop and 2 great food pubs nearby. The beach which we had a free parking pass was great for body boarding. We would very happily return!

Mrs Mason

Perfect place to stay with the pool, the beach only 1.5 miles away and good food on the doorstep.

Mrs Grafton

We enjoyed a lovely week at Orchard Dene. The house is comfortable, spacious and well equipped. It’s location is perfect for exploring the area and local beaches. Mrs Meek, the housekeeper, is a delight and provided us with plentiful information in terms of walks from the door and top tips etc. The garden, courtyard and swimming pool are fantastic assets and really facilitated outside living and dining. We swam in the pool every day and loved it.

Mrs Wadley

Great location, amazing swimming pool, friendly owners, just a perfect relaxing holiday for all the family, will definitely be rebooking!!

Miss Lever

Georgeham is a very pleasant village away from the main resorts and also visitors to the area so quieter but within 5 minutes drive of the coast. Attractively furnished cottage and well-equipped kitchen, also very private.

Mrs Lines

Lovely space and well equipped Garden good space

Mrs Pears

Helpful and welcoming owners and a super pool in warm weather!

Mrs Griffin

Good location for visiting the area.

Mrs Dennison

It was an ideal location for us, we booked fairly last minute and wanted to stay near family. A gorgeous village which I remember from many years ago when I came with a girls' camp. Our family loved the wonderful beaches nearby and despite pretty blustery weather, the sun shone most of the time and kite flying, surfing, horse riding and sandcastle building were much enjoyed. We would certainly come to the artea and hopefully Orchard Dene again!

Mrs McDonagh

It was our 4th visit and booked again for next summer! Perfect for what we want. Peace and quiet, hassle free.

Mrs Edwards

We loved our stay there. We saw Mrs Meek on first arrival and that was it - which suited us. If we had any issues she was just next door. We didn’t have any issues. Lovely log burner, but though we used it twice, it was not really necessary as the thick stone walls and more than adequate storage heaters kept the place nicely warm. Good over the bath shower. The courtyard and garden/swimming pool areas were attractive, although in October we did not sit out! The two pubs in the village - The Kings Arms and The Rock Inn - were within walking distance and both served excellent food. We found a local dog walk down the road past The Kings Arms, up a slope and onto fields. We walked to Putsborough over the fields (about 20 minutes), but beware the steep slope down to the beach. Also, be aware of the narrow roads around the area, be prepared to do a lot of reversing! All in all, a nice relaxing break.

Msiss Finch

Lovely owners/neighbour. Warm, well equipped. Shame there were no games but I understand this is a covid thing. Great fun for our dog and surfers. Many thanks

Miss Cummings

Beautiful, comfortable and homey.

Mrs McDonagh

Again Brilliant 3rd time been...

Mr Schultze-Motel

Very friendly owners!

Mrs Lane

Wonderful cottage set in a lovely, picturesque village. Near the sea and yet rural. Comfortable, idyllic and home from home. A definite rebook!

Mr Sturgess

fantastic place, everything you need, made very welcome, deffernatley stay again

Mr Brampton

An excellent stay in a great location, we would recommend Orchard Dene. Both our children loved the weeks break it was just what we all needed - thank you

Mrs Cockcroft

We had a wonderful relaxing week in this lovely cottage. The location was perfect for us to visit local beaches and to travel to Braunton, Barnstable and Dunster. During our stay the lady next door ( sorry I didn't catch her name) who looks after the property gave us lots of information on the area and recommended places to us. We would not hesitate to recommend this property for a holiday.

Mr Chambers

Just that it was a really beautiful cottage, so well equipped, homely and comfortable. We really enjoyed staying here.

Mrs Turfrey

A lovely, warm and welcoming cottage in an excellent location. There are two very good pubs within walking distance and the parking permit for nearby, beautiful Putsborough Sands is a real bonus.

Mrs Owen

Good standard throughout and so well equipped, a real find in this lovely part of Devon.

Mr Rice

Orchard Dene is every bit as charming as the brochure seems and more. Set in an idyllic country village, close to the beach and with all the mod-cons it ticks all the boxes for an amazing family getaway. We had fun visiting all the local attractions (once we negotiated the scary country roads which are an eye opener for us city folk) but the most fun was often had in the excellent swimming pool. I would heartily recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a country break and especially to families.

Mr Martin

Have great confidence in Classic Cottages. They are extremely helpful, nothing is too much trouble. 11/10!

Ms Salinsky

Very comfortable and well equipped cottage with lovely grounds too. We had a great week here. Thank you!

Mrs Holverson

On arrival we was made most welcome every thing was explained to us nothing was to much trouble a lovely place to stay.

Mr Watson

Great facilities, Great location and Great Beaches.

Mrs Standfast

Lovely cottage, well equipped. Comfortable. Excellent written information on the area and where to go.

Mr Crook

Excellent location with adjacent private parking. Friendly owners. Two excellent pubs very close by. Grocery shopping in Braunton topped-up by trips to the village shop. Excellent beach at Puttsborough, or just pottering around by and in the pool. We also enjoyed the village fair and the book sale in the village hall.

Mrs Huy

As always property came up to expectations thoroughly enjoyed staying there again and Mrs Meek is the most lovely host you could have. Always pleasant, cheerful and helpful in every way. The cottage is well placed in the most beautiful part of Croyde and close to the beach of Putsborough. I couldn't wish for anything more I absolutely adore the location.

Mrs Burt

This was a lovely property in a small friendly village. We had everything we needed in the house. Access to local surfing was easy early on in the day but be prepared for lots of cars down tight lanes at busier times. Worth the effort for wonderful local beaches. Would recommend without hesitation.

Mrs Kissling

We felt very comfortable in Orchard Dene. The couple that owns the house next door is very friendly, helpful and restrained in typical English style. In close proximity you will find very nice beaches and the village offers a shop with the necessities of life, the pub excellent food. Gaby, Matthias, Karla and Michaela

Mrs Clark

Lovely cottage, plenty of space inside, pool is gorgeous.

Mrs Griffin

We have booked holidays through Classic Cottages for over 20 years and experienced a variety of properties. Orchard Dean is a favourite due to the overall high standard they maintain and its location. We have also been happy with the overall service of Classic Cottages over the years.

Ms Stevens

Fantastic location in a lovely village. Perfect distance to beaches and great to have local shop and foodie pubs so close. Very well thought-out provisions/facilities for guests in the property. We would definitely return and recommend to others.

Mr Graves

lovely place; lovely people
