Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.
Mr May
We holiday at a lot of cottages and properties. This one is by far and away the best equipped, quietest, most comfortable property we have ever stayed in. Steph has provided everything we could wish for to make the stay as perfect as possible. We didn't take any kids or dogs but both would have been catered for to perfection. Walking down to the hen enclosure for our eggs was great, the hens appreciated our food scraps, the pygmy goats were such fun to watch and fuss. I cannot praise this property enough. Oh yes, Steph's cake was wonderful. Went down well with the family and friends.
Mrs Slade
We had an amazing time on holiday at Great Ash Barn and can’t recommend it enough. Two adults, two children and our two dogs. It’s a real home from home, in a beautiful location with everything we needed. We had a beautiful basket on arrival with a freshly baked cake, fresh eggs and local apple juice. The house was immaculately clean and tidy and we all agreed the comfiest beds we have ever had on holiday! The dogs are also well catered for warm water shower, boot room including a kennel which the private use for guests. This allows you to leave your dogs safe and secure if you choose to do so during your stay. This enabled us to enjoy some meals out and go swimming locally. The views are beautiful, lovely to see the animals each day and my son went and picked our fresh eggs in the morning so we could make pancakes. We will definitely be back again. Thank you so much to Steph and family for the wonderful stay.
Mr Oldman
Wonderful to be able to stay at a property that warmly welcomes our dogs and yet so perfectly clean and tidy. A gorgeous place to relax! Well done!
Ms Austin
Really enjoyed my stay at Great Ash Barn! Beautiful living space and such thoughtful attention to detail; everything you could want for that home from home comfort. My dog definitely lived her best life, and enjoyed meeting some new friends and running around in the field. This place takes ‘dog-friendly’ to a whole new level with warm shower, kennel and even a dog bed provided. Lovely fresh eggs and other delicious treats on arrival, and more fresh eggs available to collect yourself! A peaceful and relaxing break, with an interest little insight into farm life. Take your wellies!
mr Jones
Superbly equipped, comfortable and spacious accommodation. Friendly and helpful hosts, lovely views. The EV charger was easy to use.
Miss Powers
Beautiful and comfortable property home from home . The property is clean and tidy The kitchen was very well equipped. The property is secluded very peaceful and quiet . Lovely garden very safe for my dogs . When we arrived there was a cake and eggs and apple juice for us which was lovely. We were able to go and collect fresh eggs daily from the chicken coop. There is a big Tesco about 10 minutes away . Lovely and peaceful property I will revisit again .
Dr Williams
We spent a week at this wonderful cottage. The open plan arrangement is lovely and the quality of finish top quality throughout. A lot of care and attention has gone into it. The views over the valley are idyllic. It is a peaceful setting and Crediton is only a ten minute drive. The owners are friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for more. Book it, you will not be disappointed.
Mrs Clarke
Beautiful barn conversion with wonderful surrounding. Watching the ducks and chickens every day was lovely - real little characters! The host Steph & Steve are lovely nothing is too much trouble and even delivered fresh eggs to the door for free! As many logs as you could need free of charge for the log burner and fire pit - another big bonus. Just a lovely location quiet, peaceful and relaxing. They are more than dog friendly with dog shower and plenty of walks from the doorstep. I would highly recommend.
Mrs Clark
This is a fabulous property! I have stayed in a few Classic properties before but this was my favourite by far! It was warm, homely, dog friendly and well equipped. The owners were friendly and on hand if we needed anything, they even let my children feed the new calves on the farm. The location is rural, which for us was perfect, but was also a good base for National Trust, War Horse Museum and other places of interest. We all enjoyed our stay and were sad to leave, we will definitely be back!
Mrs Richards
Great Ash Barn has got to be by far the best equipped holiday home we have stayed in, the owners have thought of everything, even catering to dogs with a welcome basket with treats, towels for the doggy shower etc. We enjoyed being able to collect our own eggs and meeting the lovely Purdy's puppies. The owners were so welcoming and friendly. The house was immaculate and beautifully furnished and suited us perfectly.
Mr Cornick
This was our second visit to Great Ash Barn, and was every bit as enjoyable as our first. This property is excellent - clean, comfortable, and well equipped. The rural situation is very peaceful, and the town of Crediton, with its amenities, is conveniently only a few miles away. A good location for exploring South Devon.
Mr Payne
Attention to detail by the owners Peace and tranquility of the area Freedom granted by owners to walk around the farm area Simply excellent
Mr Jones
Great Ash Barn is a beautifully presented barn conversion with stunning views across the Devon countryside. Located approximately 15 mins from Crediton along county lanes, which we found to be fairly quiet with regular passing points - certainly worth it for the secluded location and views. The accommodation is furnished to a very high standard throughout, with the open plan living area downstairs and log burner being a big plus. There was an ample supply of logs available for the burner for those cosy evenings in front of the TV. Everyone in the family were extremely well catered for, from the welcome basket on arrival with home baked cake, fresh local milk, apple juice and fresh eggs to the dog basket, towels, and bowls. The children loved being able to collect fresh eggs from the farm chickens for breakfast, which we did most days! There is an enclosed grass area that the children and dog made plenty of use of and if you are lucky, you will receive regular visits from the Highland Cows in the field next to the property. Exeter is approximately 30 mins away, along with several National Trust properties within a 40 minute drive
Mrs Raye
Lovely place to stay a real home from home. Very relaxing and peaceful location. Our dog enjoyed the garden and seeing the cows each day. A little to remote for us but that’s just us.
Mr Prouton
So many boxes ticked, not sure where to start.. Accommodation, location, views - all perfect. I think this would suit pretty much everyone, from young families who will enjoy seeing the farm animals up close and collect their own eggs for breakfast, to people that just want a warm and comfortable base to explore further. A great place for dog owners with the enclosed garden that gives space for them to roam safely, the owners have thought of everything you could need.
Miss Walker
This house is absolute stunning, Steph has thought of everything you would need. The quality of furnishings is amazing. The beds were so comfortable as was the sofas. The farm was so good to looking around and Steve let us watch the new calves being fed. It was such a week away, our dogs were living there best lives...running in the garden. Waking up to the stunning views and cows daily was so lovely. The cake we had made for us was delicious so much so we ordered another! Thank you so much for a very relaxed week xx
Mrs France
Great Ash Barn is a wonderful place to stay. Off the beaten track but everything you need for a relaxing peaceful stay. The open plan layout was great. All the kitchen equipment you need for cooking a meal is provided. Lovely welcome basket from the friendly owners who live on the farm next door. Quiet countryside walks from the cottage. Our dog loved watching the ducks, hens, cows and rabbit every day. We collected eggs from the hens. We had a lovely holiday here. Lots of places to visit in the area but be mindful beaches are an hours drive away.
Mr Miller
Great property in a beautiful location and with lovely hosts. Our holiday break was perfect and it was particularly good for our dogs due to the safe and secure fenced garden, surrounding countryside and the fantastic doggy shower! Wonderful in every way.
Mrs Roberts
Would recommend to anyone who wants to get away from the rush of everyday life. A lovely property, well equipped, comfortable with countryside views. The welcome basket was lovely too, local produce which was a real treat, as well as homemade cake! Steph and Steve were great hosts, friendly and welcoming and allowing our two boys to help feed the lambs and calves as well as ploughing the field were real treats! Will definitely be rebooking for next year. It is perhaps worth noting that for some considering Great Ash Barn it is relatively remote and accessed via a number of narrow (ish) lanes. To get on to main roads you could add an extra 15-20 mins to your journey. Follow instructions provided to the property, not the sat nav!! (However, this did not bother us and added to the holiday, and adds to a true get away feel).
Mrs Bridgeman
A beautifully presented cottage facing open farmland that you are welcome to walk around. Children can pet the animals and see the workings of the farm at conveniently booked times. Hosts are kind ,thoughtful and attentive without being intrusive. Loved breakfasting whilst watching the ducks, hens ,lambs and rabbits scurry around…whilst we provided amusement for the cattle! A very relaxing holiday enjoyed by all….including our nervous rescue dog. A must for those of us that need to recharge our batteries engulfed in the beauty of nature.
Mr Francis
REmote, but easy to get to, and not far from all your needs Relaxing Great for Dogs
Mrs Elliott
A beautifully converted barn decorated and furnished to a high standard. Perfect location for those wanting a taste of country life but Crediton is only 12 minutes down the road. We received a lovely welcome from Steph and she had left us a delicious cake, fresh milk and flowers. I would highly recommend Great Ash Barn and we will be going back.
Mrs Isaacs
Wow great ash barn was amazing everything you would want and need is there. Views are amazing log fire so cosy, owners were great. Local showrooms park for dog walking is fantastic.

For over 30 years, we have been taking our holidays in self-catering accommodation. in the UK, Europe and Canada; Great Ash Barn is the best property we have ever stayed in. The cottage was clean and comfortable, with more than adequate equipment, and in a lovely location. The welcome pack was excellent, and much appreciated. Steph was also very helpful, if we had any queries. We would very much like to stay again.
Mr Maclean
Perfect stay away to unwind and relax. Very tranquil and the kids loved getting involved picking up eggs and feeding the farm animals. Would highly recommend.
Miss Darling
Steph and Steve went above and beyond making our stay truly special for our children. They we able to cuddle all the animals including chicks, baby rabbits and chickens, Steve took the girls on tractor rides and most special of all they we’re able to bottle feed the calves. The dog shower in the boot room was absolutely fantastic and I was so impressed that the water was a lovely temperature! The kitchen was so well equipped with everything we needed for our stay and there was a brilliant selection of toys to keep all our children from 5-10 entertained. Would highly recommend and would love to visit again!
Mr Maslin
Thank you Steph and Steve. We all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Great Ash Barn.
Mrs Murphy
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Great Ash Barn. It is in a very peaceful and tranquil location with wonderful views. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. We were house hunting during our stay and the barn was a real oasis at the end of the day and the garden was a lovely place to relax. The doggie shower was a great extra and kept our cocker spaniel nice & clean after long walks in the surrounding countryside. Steph made us feel very welcome and was on hand if we needed anything. We would definitely recommend this cottage.
Miss James

Ms Marsden
We had a wonderful week. We loved the open plan living/dining/kitchen layout, which made it very sociable. The location was lovely overlooking the Devon fields, we also loved the calves that came to see us each day and brambles the little dog - so cute! The standard of fittings (ie, showers, basins, kitchen units) was of a very good quality - the owners have done a very good job with the design of the barn. All in all a lovely break after so long being stuck in our own homes due to lockdown. We would love to come back.
Mrs Perkins
The barn was lovely, really clean, welcoming and contained every we could have needed. Garden is very secure for pets with lovely views. By far the best holiday cottage we have stayed in. Owners, Steph and Steve were really friendly, allowing our girls to have cuddles with their baby bunnies, feed their chickens and collect their eggs. We look forward to visiting Great Ash Barn again soon.

We had an absolute wonderful time at Great Ash Barn. The barn is just a lovely space to spend time and the views are amazing! Thank you to you both for giving our children such great experiences on the farm and being so friendly. The cake on arrival helped too :)
Mrs Pott
Great Ash Barn was brilliant, a really lovely welcome to the property with a couple of things to get us started, (milk, eggs, juice & shortbread). The owner was very welcoming as well, and checked to see how we were getting on and if we needed anything once we had arrived. If we had any questions they noted their number in the welcome pack so that we could ask if necessary and was very responsive when asked. The property itself was modern, fresh and spacious, with plenty of room for everyone to not feel cramped, and was very cosy with the log burner, especially over a chilly winter weekend, it was immaculately clean for our arrival. The property is only a 30 minute drive from Exeter City Centre, with plenty of supermarkets about a 10-15 minute drive away, which was really handy. Overall a really enjoyable weekend in this lovely property, good location and fab company. I'm already looking at when I can re-book.
Mrs Roberts
Beautifully presented cottage with a homely and useful interior design.
Mrs Harwood
Had a lovely relaxing holiday. Cottage is remotely located in the beautiful Devon countryside. Lanes to cottage are narrow with passing places, but just a short drive into Crediton for supermarkets & takeaways. Cottage is spacious, airy, very comfortable, and peaceful - just perfect to relax and chill out. We enjoyed playing ball games in the fully enclosed secure garden, as well as making friends with the livestock over the fence in the adjoining field. Would highly recommend.

As a family we have over 60 years of self catering experience between us and this was by far the best equipped property we've hired. Age range of 17-78 and we were all happy. The owners were really helpful, we had a slight car mishap and they personally arranged an appointment with their local garage for the next day. We arrived to home made cake, fresh laid eggs and local apple juice. A very special holiday! Lovely cottage and lovely owners
