Reviews

A cosy little bolthole nestled in the rugged countryside of the north coast. Ideally located to explore this stunning area of Cornwall, only a five-minute drive to the beautiful beaches of Chapel Porth and Trevaunance Cove and half a mile from the pretty village of St Agnes with a plethora of pubs, cafes, takeaways and shops. What more could you need for your break?

Follow the path from the car parking space (about 50 meters away) and up the beautiful granite steps which lead up to the entrance. Receive a whole-hearted welcome when you open the door into the cosy open plan living-room, which is warmed by a wood-burner and styled with vintage, eclectic fabrics and furnishings. There is a simple kitchen-area with a hob and combination microwave which is sufficient but also a good reason to make the most of the local eateries. From the first floor you have far-reaching views across fields and countryside, you might also spy a chough or two in the fields which are part of the owners' organic smallholding where they produce their own vegetables, fruit and organic goats' milk (you may see the owners at work while you enjoy your morning coffee).

Following the stairs down, you will find the cosy bedroom and shower-room. The bedroom has such a snug feel with a charming vintage bedframe but of course top quality mattress, heavy quilts and warming hues for a peaceful night's slumber. The shower-room has a large walk-in shower which is perfect for a refreshing yourself after a day exploring the coast path. Open the stable door out to a sheltered patio (which is fully enclosed and dog escape proof) with a sitting-area covered with a glass roof. The perfect spot to put your feet up with a refreshing beer on the deck chair at the end of the day.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Stonestreet

This cottage way exceeded our expectations! It was cute, cosy and unique, superbly located with excellent walks straight out of the door and not far from local amenities. We had a lovely, relaxing stay and hope to return.

Mrs Biddiscombe

Warm and welcoming little cottage with a lot of charm.

Miss Bullimore

This is a fantastic little cottage, it's quirky and charming. Set in a quiet and rural location but with fantastic amenities just a 15 minute walk away. This feels like a second home for us. The owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful and we hope to continue to return many more times. Thank you.

Mrs Prosser

A walker's paradise; set right on the side of St Agnes Beacon with great views. The owner was very friendly and helpful.

Mrs Palmer

Really lovely and charming property. It was really atmospheric staying up on the beacon with the stormy weather outside. The log burner made it feel cosy. It was great to be staying in a rural setting, but only a short walking distance to St Agnes amenities. The property is well thought out and designed. I really liked the art work and mural. We met our host, who was very friendly and helpful. Would love to return.

Mrs Hampshire

A cosy but basic cottage. Good situation for walkers and only about 1 mile from the village centre. There are stone steps up to the entrance and quite steep staircase down to the bedroom so bear that in mind when booking.

Miss Coleman

We had a brilliant stay at beacon top, lovely quirky cottage with a great log burner & only a 5 min walk from an unbelievable view out to the coast. We enjoyed our stay & would love to return.

Miss Cassin

Great location; however I would not expect to buy toilet rolls (one provided), washing up liquid, logs, firelighters and kindling (small amount provided). Bedroom heater on a timer which never came on. Bedding not ironed, sofa really uncomfortable, garden area not as in description - tiny table with one bench. Would have been nicer if the area had been weeded and the walls whitewashed over as they were faded. Owner was very helpful with directions and friendly and the home grown tomatoes and cider in the fridge were a nice touch. A very cosey place to stay, the cost just does not match the accommodation standard and I have stayed and many.

Mrs Parsonage

Not the best of properties we have stayed in.

Ms Holt

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beacon Top Bottom. Lovely quirky cottage in a great location, a short walk to the centre of St Agnes, the Beacon and St Agnes Head. The fresh sea air, the lack of traffic noise, being right on the footpath which leads to a choice of other footpaths, the town, the history, the log burner, the comfy mattress, the couple of ciders and organic biscuits as a welcome, the artwork and the views make this a lovely place to spend a week. Wish we'd had longer there.

Mrs Mahoney

We found the website easy to navigate and the customer service was great when I needed it.

Mrs Coughlan

Parking place needs clearly signing or a small map adding to the website.

Miss Pendlebury

This is our 2nd stay here and we love it, perfect location for walks with our dog. St Agnes village is lovely and friendly with all you need and good transport links if you don’t want to drive. Yvonne is so accommodating and helpful. We will definitely be back. Thanks for another great stay.

Mrs Brinkhurst

Great location for walking to the beacon and Wheal Coates

Mrs Bisbrown-Chippendale

Convenient for St Agnes & Truro.

Mrs Whitelaw

I would suggest a visit by CassicCottages to review this property in its current state.

Miss De Boos

Fantastic stay which totally met all expectations. It was nice to meet the owner on arrival who made us feel very welcome and kindly gifted us some fresh eggs from her farm. Beautiful accommodation and perfect for our needs. Would highly recommend. Location also a great bonus within walking distance to shops and restaurants plus beautiful landscape.

Mrs Milnes

This is a beautifully situated cottage that is both quirky and comfortable- lovely hosts who are extremely accommodating and I would recommend their eggs ??

Mrs Start

Good access to SW Coast Path. we feel the picture of the cottage is a bit misleading as it implies you can park beside it which you cant as it belongs to the owners, also it is gated to make it more private for the owners with a roof built between the cottage and the next building(not shown in photo) this was not a problem for us as it was nice not having any vehicles nearby but it could be annoying for some people.

Mrs Booth

Lovely to be surrounded by beautiful countryside and views of rabbits and cows playing and grazing.

Mrs Woodroffe

We were disappointed that there was no proper oven just a microwave oven which I could not be bothered spending my time learning to use. It needs a new sink. We enjoyed our time in St Agnes and the owner was very friendly.

Ms Falconer

What an absolute gem of a place to stay! We loved our visit to Beacon Top Bottom. Perfect location with everything needed for a fine holiday on your doorstep and in walking distance, including the charm and conveniences of the town St. Agnes, nature and scenery with walks to the Beacon, Wheal Coates mine, and beautiful Chapel Porth beach, and the beer garden at the Driftwood Spars in Trevaunance Cove. Beacon Farm was idyllic and the owners were kind enough to take us on a tour and share some of their fresh produce. No wifi, but there was 4G coverage. Excellent jumping off point for surfing, complete with tap in the private garden for rinsing down after beach visits. Would highly recommend and hope to return some day!

Mr Rider

Great views

Mr McElveen

We had a wet week in November but it was still highly enjoyable which is a testament to the property and location.

Dr Johnston

Highly recommend this unique and charming cottage.

Miss Loveday

As a repeat visitor to Beacon Top Bottom I am torn between keeping it secret to myself and loudly enthusing about it! But usually I do the latter to anyone who listens. This place wraps you up cosily; (who doesn’t love being beside a woodburner when there’s a Cornish Atlantic Storm blowing in?)! Wide ranging views keep you grounded in the landscape and direct access to St Agnes Beacon footpath and on to the heritage coastline is a dog owner/walker’s dream. And stylish, oh yes!

Ms Dart

Surpassed expectations. Owner was very welcoming and cottage was warm and comfy. Little extras .... eggs, apple juice, milk and biscuits +++ .... an added bonus.

Mrs Tyler

A quirky quaint upside down cottage in a very peaceful farm location. Very helpful friendly owners.

Miss Kerr

Beautiful little cottage perfectly situated near to lots of beautiful beaches and coastal walks that you can get to by foot from the front door. Very generous hosts who showed us around their small holding and left eggs to greet us with! Lovely to come home to the wood burner after a pint in st Agnes in one of the many lovely pubs!

Ms West

Lovely cottage perfect for that get-away-from-it-all holiday set in a beautiful part of the world. We like so much this our fifth year of coming to Beacon Top Bottom.

Mrs Ridgewell

A cottage full of character in a lovely location. Comfortable and well equipped.

Miss Loveday

BTB is delightful home from home, ideal for a quiet weekend retreat with my art journal, a good book and my dog for company. This comfortable cottage has everything you could need for simple living and is so stylish. I love that you can walk from the door straight out into the footpath and onto St Agnes Beacon and to the coast. Yvonne is a kind and thoughtful host. I am already planning to book my next return visit!

Mrs Turner

Beautiful location, great for walking . You can walk to several beaches, walk to the village for papers, bakery, butchers, pub, fish and chips , Cornwall Pizza and dog friendly coffee shop. Great to meet the locals. Cottage is comfortable and has great views. Decorated beautifully with inspiring art work by the owner.

Mrs Beksa

This was such a lovely place to stay. An easy walkable distance to the coastal path and well placed in Cornwall to reach all the major attractions with ease. Cottage itself is beautiful. One of the owners is an artist and her quirky style is littered throughout (with prints available to buy). Owners are very approachable and openly offer tours round their small holding. Lovely touches on arrival too including a souvenir tea towel, beer, eggs or seasonal veg from their hens/ducks/land when available. I would love to go back...

Mrs Ruecroft

Beacon Top Bottom is a little haven in a peaceful and quiet location. Ideal for those who want to get away from the stress of modern day life and experience the pleasures in life that are right on the doorstep of the barn. A perfect choice for walking, especially if you have a four legged friend who loves the outdoors.

Mrs Woodward

We really enjoyed our stay at Top Bottom and recommend it. Looking out the top half of the windows you feel in the middle of nowhere, when in fact there are cottages and the farmhouse right next door. As well as holidaying it would be a really good place for someone who wants a retreat to do creative or other work away from WIFI. Some practical things people might find useful: We had a reasonable 4g signal in the cottage. In cold winter weather the little stove upstairs and underfloor heating downstairs kept us toasty. The cottage is on the path to the coast, not the (South West) coast path itself. The bedroom downstairs is open to the stairwell, and the floor upstairs is creaky, so you get quite a lot of noise if someone is upstairs - better for people who go to bed and get up at the same time. We found the bed troublesomely soft and creaky even with a new mattress, and after the owner helpfully put a board in between the springs and the mattress. The trouble was even with the board the springs lifted the mattress, so it moved noisily everytime someone moved.

Mr Wienbröker

Third stay at Beacon top Bottom. Good place to relax. Beacon Top Bottom makes us happy! Our dog feels like at home.

Miss Griffiths

The coastal walks are amazing from this property and there are so many good places to dine out or takeaway within walking distance. The cottage itself tells a story and is full of artwork from the owner which builds the character of the conversion.

Mr Wild

It's quite simply a unique space in a remarkable setting with astonishing views.

Miss Butler

A lovely little place in a great location. Very quiet with everything we needed for a week away. Loved the artwork decorating the place and beautiful views from the top of the beacon which was only a few minutes away!

Miss Smith

This was a beautiful little bolt hole on the Cornish coast. Plenty of walking trails right on the doorstep. Plus a welcoming log-burner to take the chill off the Spring evenings. Would highly recommend a stay in this quaint cottage.

Ms Jackson

One of the loveliest properties full of surprises and great little touches. the guest book is full of drawings and poems a tribute to the cottage and its owners.

Miss Porter

The location of this property is probably one of the best in Cornwall. The views from nearby are AMAZING as are the walks. If you are staying in good weather this property is a perfect crash pad but if you are staying when wet you are left with only a tiny towel rail to dry clothes as the owners only leave you two logs for the burner and so everything stays damp. The TV is the size of a laptop with a portable aerial that regularly loses signal. The mattress has seen better days and if you aren't a size 12 or below the towels are rather small - the main towels are only just bigger than the hand towels. This property is all location, location, location. For us it was just too small I'm afraid which was a shame. The courtyard is not the picture with the dog in it.

Mr Elsinga

Cosy hideaway from hustle and bustle with beautiful coast right on the doorstep. A nice, small but lively village for all holiday necessities within reach (groceries, tearooms and souvenirs)

Mr Akroyd-Jones

Great location, fabulous walks from the door. Made to feel very welcome

Mr Kerry

The cottage is lovely and the artistic touches made our stay feel special

Mrs Jamison

We loved Top Bottom. The owners were lovely and we enjoyed our stay very much. Would not hesitate to rebook or recommend. Beautiful setting and great little house with such quirky cool style!

Mrs Palmer

An excellent base for a holiday especially if you like walking. St. Agnes village is nearby as well as Trevaunance Cove, Chapel Porth, Trevellas and Porthtowan.

Ms Nef

A Paradise for nature lovers, away from the the village. Good location for coastal walks (coast path). Equipped with lots of love. Just beautiful... :-)

Perfect for our short Easter break. The log burner and Easter eggs helped the rainy days.

This was our second visit to a lovely cottage, beautifully decorated in a peaceful location. Just a short walk from St Agnes and St Agnes Beacon. The perfect place to get-away from it all. An added bonus was my tour of the owner's farm!

Miss Grindell

Beacon Top Bottom is a very cosy little cottage with very lovely owners who were happy to help with any issues and we didn't have any at all so 10/10. We highly recommend this cottage to anyone looking to escape and get back to nature. Perfect for a trip at any time of year!

Mrs Feller

the beacon was individual and homely we loved the location and especially all the extra touches . milk beer biscuits and a free tea towel. The outside space was great . Located near the town and good amenities.

Mr Campbell-White

Top cottage. Very enjoyable.

Mrs King

If you want a very restful holiday choose beacon Top bottom. You can walk to the village which is very friendly , good dog friendly pubs with excellent food.

Mr Green

Beacon Top Bottom is a lovely, tucked away, oasis of peace. Perfect for getting away from the demands of everyday life. Being near the top of St Agnes Beacon everywhere you walk is downhill, just be prepared for the hike back up! We came home very relaxed from the gentler pace of life and much fitter for all the walking. Plenty of dog friendly beaches within easy travelling distance and the pubs are dog friendly too. Highly Recommended

Ms West

It's a quiet area of Cornwall with good access to coastal paths. St Agnes is a small village with everything you need but not everything your don't!
