Y Berllan Hideaway
Y Berllan Hideaway offers the perfect whimsical retreat; a fairytale log cabin nestled in an enchanting woodland, just a short stroll from the sheltered sandy cove of Cwm yr Eglwys, near Newport in north Pembrokeshire.
This heavenly hideaway is perfect for families, friends, couples and even your four-legged companion. The open-plan wooden interior is brimming with character. Soak up the captivating forest views through the wide patio windows or take time out relaxing on the wooden decked balcony which surrounds the cabin on two sides. On a cooler evening sit around the cosy wood burner after a day exploring the rugged coastline, or spend time around the fire pit on a starry night, toasting marshmallows and sharing stories from the day's adventures.
Accessed via a short woodland path, wellies and a torch are a must, especially in the winter months. The cabin really is nestled in nature, where sunlight shines in patterns through the ancient woodland. There’s also a small marsh opposite; a botanist and bird watcher's paradise (take care with young children). And if you are a beach lover then look no further as just a five-minute walk away you’ll find sandy shores.

This cabin is perfectly placed to offer you a truly away from it all experience. With the reopening of the Sailors Safety pub and restaurant you really do n’t even need a car to walk out into the most amazing scenery. Swim at the beach, walk the coastline. The cabin is warm , snug and comfortable. An unforgettable holiday for us an outdoorsy couple …
Mr Cornish
The perfect peaceful get away, to recharge our batteries, we didn't want to leave. Everything we needed was on hand, lovely comfortable bed. Don't forget your wellies! ??
Dr Cheasley-Rau
If you want peace and tranquility this log cabin is ideal. And close to the sea for a swim and coastal path. As it is surrounded by trees it can be damp and cold. The woodburner helps a great deal, so make sure there are enough logs in the basket. We had very few and very short ones for the type of woodburner.
Miss Nash
Great place to stay if you want to get away from it all, not much signal and no WiFi makes it the perfect reset holiday. The beach is a short stroll away and is beautiful but don’t rely on the walkable pub, it unfortunately didn’t open during our stay. Big plus for us was the super comfy beds and being dog friendly
Mrs Hall
Location and veranda good, although rather weather dependent. Sadly the whole village is full of holiday cottages. Sleeping arrangements quite tight. Don’t think it would be suitable for most families as garden unsafe for small children and lack of wifi and local amenities would be off putting for older children/teenagers.
Mrs Pike
This truly is a magical holiday home. You have beautiful views and privacy in a warm cosy environment. Park car outside path that leads to cottage to offload luggage then remove to parking slot a few minutes away. Collect wheelbarrow from cottage - great help. Write door pass code on a note pad as you cannot revisit site when at Y Berllan as there is no WiFi. Love the beautiful private wood glade and the sparkling clean, warm lodge. We have stayed twice now. Enjoy. Temple Bar Cafe on left out of Newport. Organic meals, warm welcome, woid burner. Organic produce for sale. Jenny, Proprietor is lovely Open Sat and Sundays.
Mrs Horncastle
We wanted a quiet holiday with our dogs to get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily lives and this didn’t disappoint. Perfectly secluded and beautiful location would highly recommend.
Miss Swatland
Absolutely fabulous, no WiFi no internet, just nature, we had a wonderful week, the beach was easy walking distance and dog friendly, the bats in the evening were stunning, I wish I owned this cabin, will definitely be returning. The cabin has a marsh by it so we took citronella candles and they kept the mosquitos at bay nicely. Thanks for a beautiful location.
Mrs Richardson
We had a super week at this delightful secluded hideaway. Everything we needed, fabulous walks etc. Please note nearest shop, is Keil House in Dinas Cross or petrol station. PUB The Old Sailor, ( 10 mins flat sheltered walk at Pwllgwelod beach), is open 11am to 5 pm on Tuesdays to Sundays. Thoroughly recommend this hideaway for a holiday ??
Mr Smallbone
Area has wonderful walks immediately from the cabin. The nearby walkable Newport has a great assortment of eating establishments, ( Dog Friendly)
Mrs Roberts
We loved our stay here! Total peace, yet lots of adventure on your doorstep. The lovely beach was a 3 minute walk from log cabin gate to feet on the sand (I timed it!) - this beach was our favourite, lots of rocks to climb, crabbing, kayaks and boats to rent, and dog friendly too. The log cabin had everything we needed and the beds were comfy. There is no WiFi in the log cabin as it’s a remote location, but I had great signal for EE, but o2 had none - just a pre warning! Lovely welcome hamper when we arrived with wine, Welsh cakes and Welsh tea, well needed after a long drive! The location of the cabin is very well hidden and took us a while to find, but luckily I had read another review with directions - walk out the carpark the way you drove in, turn immediately right and walk up the narrow road until you come to a house with two black garage doors on the ground floor. To the right of the house is a narrow public footpath - walk down this pathway until you reach the gate straight ahead of you. The wheelbarrow for belongings is provided and well needed - quite a few trips to and from the car! As a bonus, the kitchen was upgraded when we arrived, nothing like the photos! We loved the cabin, the log burner, and the cosy evenings and gorgeous mornings listening to the birds. Well worth a stay, lovely locals and a beautiful location for a peaceful getaway. We took two children and two dogs and they were thoroughly entertained all week! We would definitely stay again.
Miss dixon
Beautiful lodge in quiet secluded forest close to stunning little beach and costal views. Just perfect for a truly relaxing break with cosy log burner and mod cons too
Ms Rowlands
Great location with walks from the door in a very peaceful setting. Close to Newport which has some brilliant eateries (try PWNC cafe, The Canteen, Tides, Llys Meddyg). We loved the Dinas walk!
Miss Woodcock
Beautiful log cabin. Very spacious. All mod cons supplied. Just to advise O2 phone customers. There is no signal on O2 ( even though it states on the website at its excellent ) but my partner is with EE and was fine. Ideal base location to visit local coves and beaches. Booking was minimum of 1 week but kept busy daily with excursions and chilling with a good book on the 2 rainy days. Dogs loved it!! Prosecco and Welsh cakes a nice touch
Mr Etherington
If you are after a quiet peaceful holiday close to the beach and have a keen interest in wildlife whilst staying in a comfortable wooden cabin. Then this is the holiday for you. If you need shops and pubs close by in easy walking distance then best avoid. However this property is its charm in the fact it is a five minute drive to the nearest shop making the cabin peaceful and relaxing.
Mr Christianson
Unique accommodation in a lovely setting, close to the coastal path and within easy walking distance from two lovely coves. Perfect for dogs, excellent walks from the door and lots of lovely coves in each direction. Delicious pop up pasta van on the site of the boat club in nearby Newport, highly recommended, especially the focaccia. Peaceful garden which gets the afternoon sun, very relaxing after those long walks!
Mrs Wright
Idyllic location. We had a perfect retreat reading, walking and swimming.
Mrs Millar
Really enjoyed our stay, very relaxing and lovely to be among the trees. We hope to return!
Mrs Pike
We had a truly relaxing stay at Y Brenllan. The log cabin is hidden away from the outside world as you enter a peaceful, magical forest glade with lovely views m, which continue from the log cabin. The log fire makes the place so cosy and the furniture is comfortable and stylish. Bluebells were flowering. The snug catches the afternoon and evening sun. Two beaches lie within easy walking distance. If you are planning to walk around the headland (Dinas Head) this can take you up to 4 hours (with rests) depending on your walking ability. The sign states it can take 1 hour! Also, if you are squeamish about heights, you might find some of the coastal paths a bit narrow!!! ON ARRIVAL at the hamlet of Cwm yr Eglwys we suggest you leave the car in the carpark in the space provided for “log cabin’ and get your bearings by walking. Turn immediately right out of the car park and walk to the first house on your right (white) turn right down a narrow path (this is found between the white house and Cegroes and walk 100 yards to the entrance gate of Y Brenllan. We had a special time and can’t wait to go back again!!! Deborah and David, May 2021.
Mrs Thom
a tranquil private escape. Walking distance between two lovely beaches means you can choose between a sunset or a sunrise.
Mr Pyne
Great location, couldn’t have been better places for coastal path. Lovely cabin, comfortable & private. Would highly recommend.
Mrs Rogers
Such a lovely hideaway, so peaceful and relaxing. Great location for beaches and walking.
Mr James
Lovely isolated cabin in one of the most beautiful areas of Wales.
Mrs Ayres
Loved the cabin, loved the peace, loved the wildlife, loved just hearing birdsong and sheep bleating! Loved walking on the coast path, loved the little cove. It was an incredibly restorative break for us.
