Reviews

Nestled in the heart of the chocolate-box village of Godshill, this detached house has beautiful secluded gardens to the rear and everything the village can offer within a few minutes' walk. Located between Newport and Ventnor in the south east, Godshill is centrally located to easily reach all the Island has to offer.

Boasting some of the oldest architecture on the Isle of Wight, with an abundance of charming thatched cottages, the winding high street is lined with traditional English tea rooms – you will be spoilt for choice. The New House is spacious and well laid out with a large kitchen/dining-room; doors lead out from here to the beautifully tended garden and large patio-area. There is an outdoor table and chairs to dine at, plus outdoor sofas on the large decking-area, to make the most of this lovely garden whenever the sun is shining.

The sun-room leads out from the sitting-room, a perfect place to relax with a cuppa and a good book or for an afternoon siesta. You needn't worry that the kids will interrupt, as there is a room dedicated to a full-sized table-tennis table – hours of fun to be had!

All of the four bedrooms are on the first floor; bedroom one shares a bathroom with the twin bunk-room and the two bedrooms at the front of the house both offer en suites.

The New House is a gorgeous holiday home in a superb setting, come and enjoy.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Herman

We had a fabulous time at the New House. The property is in great condition, in a top location for accessing most of the island in no more than 20-25 minutes and all the little extras and home comforts are there such as garden games too. Having a bathroom for every bedroom was amazing as well. This is the best cottage we have stayed in so far and we would definitely recommend it and plan to return.

Mrs Dumbrill

Lovely spacious house and garden. Very clean. The bus stop is right outside and useful for travel around the island. There are eating options within the village including vegan dishes, vegan cream tea and vegan ice cream.

Mrs Dalton

What a great house in a lovely location. We picked this house as it had four bedrooms and three ensuite due to 7 adults travelling. It lived up to our expectations and more. The owners have ensured that everything is thought of - from a very well equipped kitchen to including items that could be used for beach days (weather permitting). We loved the garden and made use of this space whilst we were there. You are not far from anywhere so there were regular days out exploring. I would have no hesitation in recommending this house.

Miss Browne

We have really enjoyed our week at The New House. The house is very spacious, well equipped and has a lovely big garden for our dog to play in. Godshill is a lovely village and a great location to explore the island. We recommend both The Taveners and The Griffin for eating out.

Mr Sanders

We loved our stay at The New House. It was wonderfully clean and so well equipped. The welcome hamper was a lovely surprise. The house is in a perfect location, right in the centre of the amazingly pretty village of Godshill. There are two pubs on the doorstep - The Taveners and The Griffen. Both looked lovely although we didn't visit either due to fussy eaters in our family! The table tennis room and the piano in the sunroom were big hits with our family. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Mrs Woolcombe

A stunning much loved home in a picture book village surrounded by thatched cottages. So much space for everyone, a beautiful garden, games room and so many books and board games! The kitchen is the best equipped kitchen you’ll find! Perfect for staying in or going out, supermarkets and beaches all a short drive away. Log burner and so many comfy couches and bathrooms. Can’t recommend it enough - definitely be back if we return to the lovely Isle of Wight.

Mrs Fish

Fabulous cottage in a lovely village location. It's fairly central for getting out and about and there is a bus stop right outside. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped. There is plently of room and lots to entertain multi generational family groups. The Taverners pub serves fantastic quality food and The Old Smithy serves a lovely breakfast.

Mrs Nutt

This was a great property for our family group, with plenty of room for everyone. The snug with the piano proved very popular as well as the table tennis room. The kitchen had every conceivable piece of equipment you could wish for. The garden is lovely with several seating areas and a large lawn for the children to play football and cricket. This was the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed on and would recommend it. Opposite is a popular bakery and the Taverners does a great Sunday roast.

Mrs Bravo

no, its our secret!!!!

Mrs Noble

2nd visit to The New House with 3 generations, we love it, it has everything and more we could need and is in a great location. I’m sure we’ll be back again!

Mr Ellidge

The New House is a wonderful property to use as a base for your trip to the Isle of Wight. Situated directly on the high street of picturesque Godshill, it has numerous pubs and restaurants on the doorstep. When the sun is shining, the barbecue and large garden are perfect places to spend quality family time. If the weather is less kind, the tennis table is a great distraction!

Mrs Hollobone

The location was great. Garden was lovely and secure. House was lovely and well appointed. Would highly recommend this holiday home. Thank you

Mrs Cox

Lovely, spacious house with beautiful enclosed garden. Excellent location in the lovely village of Godshill with many different attractions within very easy reach. Highly recommended.

Mrs Shreeve

Wonderful property, very well equipped, spacious house and lovely garden. Great location, easy access to beaches, lovely walks from Godshill and in surrounding area..

Mrs Bravo

no, we want to be able to come regularly, if we tell people it will get booked up!!

Mrs Lowe

We stayed at The New House to celebrate my 60th birthday which was delayed 2 years due to Covid. It was well worth the wait, the house was brilliant. We needed a house that would accommodate 6 adults and 2 babies so needed plenty of room and a good location which we certainly got. The garden was lovely and well equipped as was the house. Would highly recommend staying there.

Mrs Woods

A super base for a family holiday. Plenty of space, inside and out with lots to occupy both adults and children.

Mr Hussan

This place was beyond expectation. Anything you name it, its there. Never stayed in a cottage with so much facilities and stuffs in it.

Mrs Moloney

Fantastic location. We'll equipped family home. Would definitely stay again.

Mrs Harper

My daughter already wrote a review for The New House in the visitors book - lovely house - good location - lots of things to do for the family - good to have separate rooms to go to when needing some chill time. All in all a great house for all the family situated in a nice village. We have been coming to the island for the last ten years or so and this house has definitely been the best for all the family in regards to being near to shops & for the amount of rooms. Good base to get to other parts of island as well - we will definitely be back!

Mrs Bravo

No - we don't want encourage others, we will never get a booking!!!!!!

Mrs Noble

We had such an amazing week in The New House - it’s a lovely cottage with the most wonderful garden! We hope to return again!

Mrs Whitfield

This house was home from home. Very comfortable and well equipped with a delightful garden and village. We would definitely return another year.

Mr Butt

A brilliant venue for more than one family as there is lots of space to be together or apart as you wish. High level of equipment.

Dr Sinnott

A truly wonderful home. Perfect for large family groups as a base to explore the island! We cant wait to come back!

Mrs Leppard

Mr Bryant

Large property well positioned on the island in a beautiful popular village setting. The house is very comfortable and well set out with a beautiful large garden at the rear.

Mrs Bravo

no, we don't want people to know about this super secret!!!!!!

Mrs Hannam

Excellent location, very well appointed, spacious and beautifully furnished! A pleasure to stay there!

Mr Goodwin

lovely large house, plenty of space. really enjoyed playing table tennis in the games room. garden was beautiful and spacious and very well maintained.

Mr Keeley

Beautiful property in an excellent location. A true Home from Home - everything we could have wished for.

Mrs Brown

Fantastic location, superb house and beautiful garden!

Mrs Josey

Overall this was a great house in the perfect location. I would recommend it to others looking to stay in the area. Would probably be quite cold in the winter as many of the windows had blown.

mr cutler

Large, comfortable and well equiped house. Beds are super comfy. Location right in the centre of Godshill, massive garden with seating.

Mrs Harvey

Lovely location and spacious property, but still homely. Great garden.

Mr Hammett

Comfortable and good sized holiday home in central village location and easy walking to pubs and local shops. Lovely garden with ample seating and a joy to see the local red squirrels. Property is set on the main road through the village which families with young children should be mindful of. There was some road noise and it can be difficult to pull out from the driveway at busy times.

Mr Sandham

The cottage is lovely and spacious with its large garden, its needing a little more upkeep maintenance wise , back gate fixing ,patio area re- pointing and new outside lights installing. Being in the heart of Godsill is great although you do have to take your life into your own hands with there being no pavements to walk on just the narrow road edge.

Mrs Bravo

this must be our 5 or 6th visit to the New House....That must be the best recommendation!!!

Mrs Dusson

Lovely well equipped house in a good location which met the needs of three generations of our family. A very enjoyable stay.
