Reviews

6 Coastguard Cottages is formerly the quarters of the Coastguard Station officers, now cosily decorated it makes for a peaceful island retreat. Positioned in a stunning coastal location, the property enjoys uninterrupted views of National Trust countryside and coastline, as well as of Compton Bay (great for surfing) and Freshwater Bay.

Full of character and charm, this semi-detached period property will make you feel at home as soon as you step inside. The sitting/dining-room is warm, relaxed and welcoming; comfortably adorned with cosy furnishings and a beautiful farmhouse table. Here you can tuck into a family meal around the table or sink into a sofa and enjoy some restful reading. In the galley kitchen there are a range of modern, integrated appliances as well as a washing machine and tumble-drier, ideal after muddy walks on the coast path.

On the first floor you'll find the bathroom, with a shower cubicle and bathtub, plus three bedrooms, all tastefully furnished with patchwork bedspreads, wooden furniture and soft furnishings. The main bedroom features a generous king-size double bed, ornate wardrobe and charming dressing table. Here you can wake up and get ready for the day as the sun rises over the sea. Next to the main bedroom is a smaller twin room containing a miniature desk, perfect for taking a moment out of your day to sit down and write a postcard. The third bedroom, also containing twin beds is set to the front of the property. Overlooking the countryside and with sea views in the distance, this is a magical room for the younger ones to wake up in.

To the front, sides and rear of the property you'll find expansive lawns, complete with garden furniture, great for al fresco dinners or a sunny game of bowls. And the generous driveway provides private parking for up to two vehicles.

Mrs Casson

One of our favourite properties to stay in on the island, this was our second visit to this lovely cottage. Immaculately clean in a perfect location. Comfortable furniture with a well equipped kitchen, appreciated the supplies. Garden was great for the children and the indoor and outdoor games were enjoyed. Spacious bathroom and towels were lovely! The house has lots of character and a nice sense of "home". The owner contacted us directly when there was a minor (fixable) problem and was friendly and helpful. Only negative like others have said is it took someone getting out of the car (VW Touran) to see it into the driveway but worth it for a roomy driveway once in and can't be helped with a beautiful stone wall (and once you get the hang of the angle it's fine!) Hope to be back next year, thank you!

Mrs Raine

A very special home, in the most glorious of locations! Kitchen was well stocked with kit, beds comfy and neighbours were very friendly. A wonderful week and we hope to be back again.

Mr Horwill

The cottage was in a beautiful location and spacious & clean with lots of kitchen equipment. We spent a lovely week here in the perfect location to explore the island or just relax. The beds were comfy and rooms clean and bright. The kitchen had lots of handy equipment and our dog enjoyed the garden, although the front gate has a gap at the bottom if you have a smaller escaping dog! Overall we enjoyed our stay. Points to note are that the turn into the driveway is quite tight if you have a larger car, we have an MG5 estate car. Also the description states that there is garden furniture but we only found a bench and one very small table, so we couldn't eat outside, but we have fed this back .

Mrs Bunting

Nothing not to like, great family house and location

Mrs Rawson

We booked this cottage by accident and it was a wonderful surprise when we got there. The house is big and roomy a good enclosed garden and a short walk to the beach .

Mrs Lawrence

Would highly recommend Coastguard Cottages. A real home from home feel. Beautiful location, peaceful, relaxing and a lovely place to kick back. Breathtaking walks near by. Enjoyed by all.

Mr Croft

A lovely cottage, with rich history, and in a perfect location for those who like the sea. We have very much enjoyed building memories on the beaches and in the surrounding countryside. Amenities in the cottage are carefully thought through. We are looking forward to next year!

Mrs Payne

Great house and location drive a little narrow for our t5 views amazing

Mr Price

As a family of six this house was the perfect size for us and had everything we needed. The views are amazing and it is a very short walk down to the beach, ideal for those with young children. The house was beautiful and very clean. The children loved that house next door sold amazing jams, perfect for breakfast!! We would definitely stay here again without hesitation!

Mrs Prytherch

Property exceeded expectations, especially considering earlier comments about cleanliness. Decoration was fresh and attractive, all perfectly clean. Comfortable beds, plenty of towels. EXTREMELY well-equipped, even down to buckets, spades, surfboards etc for the beach. Peaceful and attractive location, large garden. Very nice to be able to walk the dogs off-lead almost from the front door. Plenty of easy walks up onto the downs and also down to Brook beach (dogs allowed) and beautiful Compton Bay (dogs restricted). A comment earlier was that the garden is not fully secure. This is true, there is a gap beneath the gate that dogs can squeeze through. This could be remedied by wire netting nailed to the bottom of the gate, but in fact the road outside is only an access road to the cottages so is not busy at all. The house next door has a display and honesty box for delicious jam!

Mr Parker

Lovely cottage to stay in. Beautiful. House needing a little work plaster cracks etc. Lots of lovely 'aged' furniture. Kitchen very well stocked and good cleaning/washing facilities. Super clean and starchy linen and towels. Nothing beats the view though. Spectacular!

Mrs. Samuels

We stayed here in June 2022 and absolutely loved the cottage and the location. The house is light and spacious with a period feel yet comfortable and convenient. It was great to read about its history in the times of smugglers! Lovely to be so close to a quiet and beautiful beach.

Mr Snelling

We stayed a6 Coastguards Cottages in 2021 and decided that we had such a brilliant time in this fantastic house, wonderful location and sea views, and on the island that we would return again this year, yet another brilliant relaxing holiday in comfort. More than happy to rent this house again in the future.

Mr Snelling

We all (including the dog) enjoyed the house and location so much, that we have already booked for another two weeks at 6 Coastguards Cottages in 2022.

Mrs Wilde

This would be a wonderful place to stay for a family.

Mrs Fallace

This cottage offers a great location and lots of accommodation space and the kitchen is very well equipped. However the very poor level of cleanliness in the kitchen in particular and generally throughout the cottage (dust and cobwebs) completely spoiled our holiday and really lets the cottage down. Issues of poor cleanliness were previously raised in 2018 and 2020. In addition, there were a number of minor maintenance issues (e.g the shower door would not close properly and the door knob on the bedroom was broken) that should have been addressed prior to our arrival. The combination of these issues was very disappointing and really spoiled the holiday. Classic Cottages claim they carry out regular inspections and that they keep checking to ensure everything is above and beyond expectations. Classic Cottages stated that they cannot inspect all the cottages and we were offered financial compensation for our experience. I would have preferred a clean and hygienic cottage especially again the backdrop of Covid.

Ms Sheehan

An absolutely fantastic location for a complete break from it all. Views are magnificent, the dogs loved the garden. The nearby pub The Sun Inn was lovely and the food was excellent. There are lots of walks close by and you are not far from a range of attractions. We loved it.

Mrs Bunting

Would recommend this cottage. Great base to enjoy IOW. We as a family of 6 had an amazing time. Beach close to walk the dogs and great costal walks

Mrs Ellis

Beautiful cottage, very comfortable and stunning location but disappointed by the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Mrs Smith

A priceless location. Loved equally by my parents, children and dog!

Mrs Robinson

This location is perfect. We love the walk to the beach, where we hunt for fossils. We have stayed here a few times now and we feel that this is the best location on the island! The house is a bit on the old-side can do with modernising, but regardless we love it there.

Mrs Robinson

We had such a fabulous stay at this property. The rooms are large enough and extremely light due to the large windows and sunny location. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be back again!!! The only thing we really missed here were sun-loungers in the garden!

Mrs Bailey

this is our second stay at 6 Coastguard cottages and we would love to go back again

Mrs Bicknell

We spent a brilliant two weeks in this beautiful cottage, it has great views of the sea, very comfortable and spacious, very well equipped, lovely big garden and perfect to take the dogs to the beach. The cottage is perfectly positioned to visit other areas of the island, would definitely come here again.

Ms Howard

A wonderful week at a wonderful cottage! So close to the beach, we walked there a few times. Very well equipped property, with plenty of spaces. Fabulous sunsets!

Mrs Cunniffe

We always have a lovely time in any Classic cottage but this one has helped us make great family memories for two years now, on our favourite part of the island! Thank you

Mr Hutchinson

A delightful cottage, generously and thoughtfully equipped, in a highly enviable location.

Dr Casson

Exceeded expectations - immaculately clean, bright and spacious. Very well equipped and views were stunning. Definitely hope to return!

Mrs Taylor

Lovely location and views, great size garden and driveway (though be aware not secure if you have dogs) spacious house but furnishings more shabby than chic and cleanliness could be better

Mrs Ritchie

A lovely cottage with beautiful views. Well equipped. Would highly recommend. Look forward to returning.

Mrs Osborne

A delightful cottage in an enviable position. Very well equipped and our small problem with a lack of window key was resolved quickly and very efficiently. We will definitely book again.

Mrs Jones

Fantastic location with views across a field to the sea. Beautiful sunsets over the white cliffs. A quick walk to an amazing sandy beach littered with fossil remains of dinosaurs.

Mr Harris

Actually reviewed the same property last year. We liked it that much we returned.
