Walnut Barn
Welcome to Walnut Barn, a superbly renovated detached barn surrounded by magnificent countryside views which stretch for miles over the beautiful rolling Devon countryside. Soaking up these stunning views from your perfectly positioned patio whilst watching the sun going down is simply magical.
This beautifully designed retreat is ideal for both family holidays and special occasions. The fabulous open plan feel of this charming house makes holidaying together a real pleasure, with the ability for all to find peace and tranquility within the house due to such a clever floor plan.
Every aspect of comfort has been catered for at Walnut Barn, from the large living-room with glowing wood-burning stove and Smart TV, to the sprawling patio and barbecue area, not forgetting the games-room which proves a huge hit on a cooler day.
For the less mobile members of the party, Walnut Barn offers the full complement of amenities on one ground floor level, making this stylish barn the perfect choice - especially as the ground floor bedrooms offer direct access to the patio.
This rather secluded and special rural setting is ideal for conjuring up the most special of holiday memories, however a pleasurable car journey will find you being greeted by some of Devon's most glorious beaches, towns and villages, such as Sidmouth, Branscombe and Budleigh Salterton. Making this beautiful rural retreat a great all year round destination. Being lucky enough to be in such close proximity to an organic farming environment, a varied number of insects, such as ladybirds, spiders, and grass flies can be enjoyed on a seasonal basis. Several insect species are thriving which is largely down to the neighbouring organic grass fields not being ploughed in over 40 years. For the insect and animal lovers of you, this will be simply perfect.
Returning to Walnut Barn after an action-packed day really is the icing on the cake. Sparking up the barbecue and popping open a bottle of something tasty whilst the younger members of the party play in your enclosed grounds, really makes for the perfect holiday formula. Especially as you have a mobile pizza oven to help whip up some rather varied al fresco food, complemented by two fabulous fire-pits to huddle around when the sun goes down. Or perhaps a good read before bed or a family game of cards or a game of one of the many board games available. The owners have left a generous amount of 'entertainment' for all ages, please feel free to use these features as intended by the owners.

Mr Morrison
Our stay @ Walnut Barn was fab! Sooo well fitted out. Plenty of space for our family group of 8 Thoroughly recommend it.
Mr Jones
Lovely well equipped spacious house with large outdoor space for children (incl. swings and games room), in quiet rural location. Ideal for family holiday getaway. Beaches 30 mins away.
Mrs Briggs
A well designed house in a peaceful location. Ideal for getting out and about. Perfect garden and games room for a family. Our daughter had to work on two mornings and had no trouble with the Wifi. Well equipped kitchen and great space except for the small double bedroom. The latter would be better for children sharing than adults.
Mrs Purssglove
Lovely cottage, masses of space. Modern and fresh. Our 2nd time and we will be returning again. Lovely walk through woodland to Keepers Cottage. Garden great for the children. Fully equipped with essentials (bring your own S&P and olive oil)
Mrs Baldwin
A fabulous cottage … we were a family of 3 generations come together for Christmas holiday. Location beautiful and easy to find. Plenty of space for all and having the bootroom for our 2 large dogs was just brilliant! Cottage is well equipped with everything possible and Christmas decorated inside and out. Farm shop/cafe and pub minutes from cottage. A great stay!
Mr Jones
We had a lovely stay at Walnut Barn. The cottage was perfect for our family of 10 - six adults and four children. We made good use of the table tennis table and our 10 year old grandson was thrilled to see the football net. The cottage was clean and very well equipped although more wardrobe space would be useful in the upstairs bedrooms. We would definitely recommend this property.
Mrs Jellis
Location and cleanliness was good. However, would we return to Walnut Barn - definitely not! A very cluttered property and we felt like we were intruding into someone's home, so did not feel at all comfortable. More suitable as an Airbnb listing, in our opinion. Lots of live and dead flies and a large colony of ladybirds coming out of the grills and creeping around the upstairs main bedroom from early hours of each morning. Also, for the price that we paid, we were incredibly disappointed.
Mrs Foster
Walnut Barn was fabulous especially for a large family holiday, would definitely book again.
Mrs Bodsworth
A very well equipped and comfortable property, ideal for family groups (and their doggy companions). It’s in a peaceful rural location, but is close to Cullompton which has many amenities and has close easy access to the motorway, so beaches and other tourist attractions are easily reached. Highly recommend a visit to nearby Fordmore Farm Shop Cafe.
Mrs Clark
Our second stay at Walnut Barn. Great location and great property. Fordmore great for food. Bear Trails is local and great for adults and kids that like to get muddy. The Bakehouse in Cullompton was a great find this stay. We will be back for a third visit I am sure
Mr Hartley
We had a lovely holiday at Walnut Barn in March 2023. The space, layout and number of bedrooms was perfect for our multigenerational family of 6 adults and 3 children. The kitchen was really well equipped with lots of glasses, china and pans. Walnut Barn has everything you need. It was spotlessly clean which made everybody feel comfortable. The games room was a hit, as was the toys and games for the children. Walnut Barn is in a great location. We would all like to return, which is a great recommendation!
Mrs White
Beautiful property every thing you could possibly need included.
Mrs Copping
Walnut Barn was beautiful. We arrived slightly early and the housekeeping team were still inside. As they left, they were really helpful and friendly. The gentleman who also tends the lawns had just been and came to say hello and asked us to put the recycling bins out Tues night, for collection Wednesday. We did do this but no one emptied it so Thursday it was brought back onto the driveway. The house was great. A few cobwebs but being in the country you just have to expect a good few spindly spiders in corners. The gutters and skylights need a clean but the whole house was gorgeous nonetheless. We would come back to Walnut Barn in future. The only criticism I have is that we couldnt find a pizza tray for the oven or any flat non-stick trays - only big roasters which I couldnt put a pizza flat on either. Also, we only got left 1 single tea towel for drying up all week with 6 of us there. A spare would have helped because with flies about we tended to use a teatowel to lay over cooked dishes of food incase people wanted to go back for seconds, and then no one knew what to do with their damp hands after they had washed off their hands. The beds are very comfy and all the appliances are high end and user friendly - but the hob was tricky and I could not find the instructions anywhere. Not in the drawers listed in the house manual. I had to google it. Definitely recommend a stay here for a large group. The games room was great and theres lots of games in the house and books for people including the kids. The wi-fi worked well and my two teenagers never moaned to me once about it lol.
Mrs Drake
I'd absolutely recommend Walnut Barn. Three generations of us stayed for a week in May half-term, age ranges from 4 to 69, and it was perfect for our needs. Our 4 year old was on the swing and playhouse most of the time! The beds were really comfy, there is everything you need in the kitchen to cook a 3 course meal, and it is finished to a high standard. Lots of places to sit in the wraparound garden to make the most of the sun, and a gas BBQ (which we used a lot!). Its in a beautiful area, in easy reach of lots of Devon attractions and a Tesco superstore in Collompton. We will be returning!
Mrs Woodford
Lovely property with plenty of space and bathrooms , the outside building very useful when the weather wasn't good as could use to let off a bit of steam always good when young children involved. The kitchen was very well equipped with all the things you could ever need for cooking , it makes life so much easier !
Mrs Jarvis
Not a great start to the holiday with the windowsills full of dead and live flies. Bins were also full of rubbish. Cleanliness is clearly not a high priority as this has been in previous reviews and nothing has changed since then. Well equipped for 10 and a nice location, albeit near working farms so the smell of silage is strong most days. Wrong week I guess. Not a decent frying pan to be had, which is such a simple piece of holiday cottage equipment. The games room is not the greatest in the winter, a great table tennis table, musty and filthy though. Overall we had a good week, not a great start with all the issues and such a shame as it is a lovely location and house.
Mrs Williams
Fabulous barn with lots of space for everyone! Well equipped, very relaxing! Great safe garden with swings which the kids loved. There were a lot of flies and wasps in august so we had to eat inside. There were a few cleaning issues which I have spoken to owner about but if these are addressed the property definitely has the WOW factor and I would highly recommend.
Mrs Redfern
The location was good and in a secluded position down a lane, so was nice and private. The kitchen was fully equipped and met everyone in our party's needs. The outdoor furniture is in need of TLC as it looked tired as did the patio areas both front and rear of the property. Not sure when the property was last used but both outside and inside had cobwebs on all the windows and doors which we had to brush and vaccum away so we felt comfortable. The lounge sofa and chairs were stained in places so a little offputting not knowing what the stains were. Bedrooms were comfortable and bathrooms as expected. Overall we did enjoy our stay at Walnut Barn but would suggest that the owners invest some time and money into maintaining it both inside and out so it reflects the images on your website which is why we chose this property. First time bookers with Classic Cottages and a little disappointed with the standard as we are regular users of other rental sites where we have never had an issue.
Mrs White
Walnut Barn was even better than the description in the brochure. A perfect setting for a family holiday. The five of us had a very luxurious Xmas break. Loved the woodburning stove and playing table tennis helped burn off those extra Yuletide calories! A big thank you to the owners and housekeeping team.
Mrs Kingston
We had an amazing holiday in Walnut Barn! The space was perfect for our family of six adults and five children. The kitchen was great and very well equipped. The seating outside was fantastic and we were able to eat all our meals either at the front or back of the house. There’s lots to do in the area and several beaches around half an hour away. Plus some lovely walks/cycle rides straight from the house. We would highly recommend Walnut Barn for a family holiday and would love to return!
Mrs Clark
Amazing property. Well catered for. Lovely pub in walking distance (Keepers cottage) and local farm shop which also served brilliant food (Fordmore) won't be our last stay here ??
Mrs Purssglove
Lovely cottage, would and will be returning. Very clean and tidy, everything you could need while on holiday.
Miss Padham
We really enjoyed our long weekend at Walnut Barn. A few of our likes are below: ?Very clean ?Kitchen had a lot of utensils and cutlery ?Dishwasher and washing machine were helpful ?Decor was nice ?Enough seating for everyone ?Outside space was open and big which was great for the weather we had ?Enjoyed using the bbq and games room and fire pits ?Welcome pack with important details was a nice touch There were a few things that could be improved, like the heating, instructions for the ovens/hob (as one was always too hot and the other too cold!) and the front gate but overall we had a great stay and would go back again!
Mrs Mitchell
Lovely property in good location for exploring beaches such as Sidmouth etc. Garden brilliant and enjoyed by all ages. Good layout for multi-generation family to stay.
Mrs Bodsworth
Walnut Barn is a fabulous property, which is very well equipped and has a good layout for a multi generational family or group (and our dogs). Although in a wonderfully rural position in the heart of the Devon countryside, good road links (once off the narrow lanes!) mean that the coast and nearby towns are easily accessible by car.
Mrs Green
Walnut Barn exceeded all of our expectations! It is amazing, great layout, lovely garden and games room too! We were two families of four celebrating New Year - there was loads of space for everyone to either spend time hanging out and having fun all together or to enjoy some quiet time individually. Walk to the local pub (The Keepers Inn) through the woods was nice, and great food too. Thank you for the delicious welcome treats on our arrival at the Barn. We will definitely be back!
Mr Borrett
Very good stay, plenty of room, good kitchen equipment.
Professor Ross
My family and I (including one eight-month-old) stayed in Walnut Barn for ten days. It was excellent! The whole place was spotless, warm and very well equipped, inside and out. The beds were extremely comfortable and there are no streetlights or even any distant traffic noise to disturb one's sleep. We did a lot of cooking (there is a big Tesco just a few miles away) and even managed to use all three ovens for one meal. There are good walks to discover in the local woods and leafy lanes, and the property is well placed for driving to many of Devon's attractions. It's one of the very best places that we have ever stayed in!
