Popplestone

The view across Devon, with a possible sighting of the coast is exceptional. Its possible to sit and lose yourself in the peace, disturbed only by the swallows flitting about the barn and the various birds testing skills of identity at the feeders in the garden. If you manage to get out and about, there's lots to enjoy locally, including Burrow Farm Gardens, Forde Abbey and Gardens and the intriguing Honiton Lace Museum, which has exhibits ranging from Wallis Simpson's lace edged red dress to the Honiton Hippo!

Cottage was very tastefully furnished, all mod cons . The owners had left us scones, eggs. bread ,butter and milk. Very impressed. Would definitely stay there again . Many thanks to Barry and Barbara for making our stay so good .

The hosts at Popplestone are lovely, as were their various pets, the setting is stunning, good facilities to make good and bad weather days enjoyable, the surrounding villages and countryside are lovely and there are plenty of places of interest to enjoy. Stunning walks and views both on the farm and nearby, lovely pub gardens, and the list goes on. The property was very well equipped for a holiday stay, and the scones and homemade preserves on arrival were particularly delicious. Highly recommended.

One of the most attractive properties we have stayed in, comfortable and well equipped with stunning views from every window. We were even welcomed with a cream tea! For dog owners there are walks from the door and a safely enclosed garden. Perfect!

We had the pleasure of staying at Popplestone Cottage this July. We were met with scones and clotted cream and Jam. The place was immaculate and the hosts lovely. The setting was perfect if you want peace and quiet with walks all around you. We will definitely come back again. The perfect place to unwind and relax.

The Bush Family 3rd June 2022 We loved our stay at Popplestone, The cottage is perfect and staying on a family run farm , that is so dog friendly was such a bonus. We loved seeing the animals and the views are stunning. The garden was safe for the dogs and watching the birds from the living room was so relaxing. The cottage is very well equipped, comfortable and more than big enough for 4 adults and 2 large dogs. The welcome pack including dog treats was most welcome after a long drive. The owners and all of the family are so friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble. They recommended local walks around the farm and places to visit nearby. We loved Branscombe and Beer both on the coast. We look forward to returning.

We had a wonderful week in Popplestone Cottage, by far the best place we have ever stayed. Beautiful walks from the doorstep around the owners farm and woodlands, a dream for dog owners. One of the best cottages we've stayed in and in a beautiful location. The owners were very friendly and helpful. The cottage had everything we needed and the homemade scones that greeted us on our arrival were a lovely touch. I'm sure we'll be returning to Popplestone.

Charming cosy cottage, ideal for two, situated in the Blackdown Hills AONB. Well situated for visiting E. Devon as well as Exmoor and the coast.

Lovely property, comfortable and well equipped. Off the beaten track without being remote or isolated with glorious views towards Dartmoor. Good dog walks from the door and well secure garden. Would certainly return for another stay.

A lovely well equipped cottage in a beautiful setting. The owners were on hand if needed but not intrusive in any way. The welcome bonus of homemade scones,jam and clotted cream were very much appreciated after a long journey and treats for the dog too!

Lovely cottage, very warm and comfortable.

Anyone that wants a quiet restful break Popplestone is perfect. We found the area was great for visiting lots of interesting places, without having to use busy roads.

The hosts were friendly and helpful, and nothing was to much trouble. There was a cream tea waiting for us on arrival with some essential shopping. The cottage was spotless and everything in it was in good condition. The location was excellent with walks from the door with the dogs. Def recommend it and would book again.

We have had the very best experience at Popplestone. Tucked away down a track with fields either side is a little haven of countryside joy. A compact cottage with everything needed for a restful and delightful holiday. With lovely owners available nearby (but definitely not too near for comfort) and surrounded by horses, cows and wild flowers for us it was like being in another world. We have never before been able to arrive and find everything provided for the first day. There were enough essentials such as toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets to last the week and the best ever scones along with proper clotted cream and jam. Comfortable beds and tasteful solid furniture. Good quality items that allow you to relax not worrying that things will fall apart. With wonderful views and walks all you need is a little sunshine to complete your holiday!

We Had A fantastic holiday at Popple Stone He was a great cottage In an amazing location with a fantastic view To wake up to each morning. The farmer and his family were very helpful With places to eat Amongst other things and started the holiday off Well by leaving us some basic provisions as well as Some scones Jam and Clotted cream. We loved Popplestone. We have stayed at many cottages over the years and have to say that this was one of the best. We had a wonderful welcome package waiting for us, the owners were so welcoming and accommodating without being in your face and both the cottage and location were amazing. The beds were so comfortable and to be greeted with that view every morning was a tonic for the soul. We loved it and would love to come back.

Popplestone cottage is a fabulous quiet hideaway with a couple of nice dog walks on the doorstep. The cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped, making it a real home from home, even our dogs settled immediately (which is unusual). We are looking to book again.

This was our second visit to Popplestone cottage . The owner and their family make you feel very welcomed and make sure you have everything that you need. Lovely welcome pack of scones cream and jam, eggs bread and wine. I would throughly recommend staying here if you are after a quite place to unwind. The cottage is spotlessly clean, and well equipped . If you want to fully unwind this is the place to stay. Lovely country pubs to visit and great walks for the dog.

This cottage epitomises the the opening lines of WH Davies poem, 'Leisure' What is this life if, full of care/ We have no time to stand and stare ' . Although there are lots of places to visit nearby, its so restful to sit back and enjoy the views, watch the wildlife and just be in the moment. With the log burner for chilly evenings, outdoor seating for sunnier moments, there is no need to rush around - couldn't think of a better place to unwind.

This is a superb cottage with very friendly and helpful owners near by. The location is excellent with plenty of places to visit within easy reach. There are nice coastal resorts close by and lovely Countryside in the other direction. If you want a quiet relaxing break this is the perfect place.

Our hosts were lovely, homemade scones and the best eggs from the farm hens I ha e ever tasted were there when we arrived. Lovely, immaculate property with dreamy views of the Devon countryside. We would definitely go back.

Gorgeous views down the valley to Dartmoor in the far distance, and with the Farm next door, it’s very reminiscent of Tuscany.

Absolutely loved our stay at Popplestone. The cottage was just what we wanted and was beautiful in every way from the cream tea on arrival to the views to cozy nights in in front of the log burner. Can’t wait to go again next year. Very well looked after from start to finish and was actually gutted to return home.

The owners were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. Beautiful setting with amazing views. Lovely animals who came to visit us...dogs, cats, horses and hens! Broadband much better, in our opinion, than described. Relaxing, comfortable ....would highly recommend.

The Simmonds family are very charming welcoming hosts, as are their two delightful hounds. Arriving to a freshly baked Devon cream tea, fresh eggs, bread and milk were a lovely touch. Thank you. We loved seeing the horses in the field opposite and having the privilege of meeting a five day old Dexter calf. The view is indeed very lovely and on a clear day the hills of Dartmoor are on the distant horizon.

Did your property come up to expectations? More than...………………. lovely decor, fresh scones and flowers to greet us, plus doggy treats too. A lot of thought has been put into the cottage.

The cottage was exactly as the pictures had shown. One of the best cottages we have stayed in. The cream tea on arrival, the fresh flowers, bread, milk, fresh farm eggs were a kind and thoughtful touch. The owners and their family were very welcoming as were their 2 gorgeous dogs and horses! We were allowed to walk our 2 dogs around the owners land (avoiding the cows and bulls of course!). I cannot recommend this cottage enough you will not be disappointed!

Fantastic cottage with great views of the Devon countryside. Very well equipped down to the last detail. Owners live just down the path and were very helpful and accommodating. We all loved the scones, clotted cream and jam waiting for us on our arrival. Other provisions including bread, milk, eggs as well as toilet rolls, kitchen roll etc were there - so we were all ready to enjoy our break as soon as we arrived. We loved our four day break and would highly recommend this cottage.

Wonderful hospitality and views.

The property is lovely and very well equipped, could not have been better. It has wonderful views and was lovely to see the animals and the different types of birds in the garden. Friendly owners who also left fresh flowers, cream tea and other supplies. Would definitely like to go back again, hopefully when the weather is better.

Popplestone is amazing in every way. The cottage is clean and cosy with beautiful views. Excellent for dogs with its enclosed garden and local walks. Shops only a short distance away by car but you still feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere. Its so relaxing cant recommend it enough. We loved every minute of our holiday and can’t wait to come back.

The cottage was very clean & the linen smelled freshly laundered. Everything you could possibly need was provided. The hosts were fabulous & very friendly, as were their beautiful dogs. Although the cottage is quite secluded, everything is within easy driving distance. The birds that feed in the garden are beautiful & If you’re an early riser then it’s definitely worth a wander outside, I was lucky enough to see a badger one morning. The cottage is immaculate and furnished to a very high standard. With spectacular views within a peaceful & tranquil environment, a break at "Popplestone" leaves one refreshed and highly satisfied.

The property was fantastic with incredible views over the countryside. The kitchen was one of the most equipped we have used with everything you may need to cook something. The bed was very comfortable with lovely quality bedlinen on it. We found the cottage to be very clean and the welcome pack was lovely ready for when we arrived. The enclosed garden was great for our two dogs as well and enjoyed sitting outside with the dogs looking out over the views. We found the owners to be very friendly and would love to go back again some time in the future.

A beautiful retreat with thoughtful touches such as fresh flowers and milk, butter, eggs and bread. The cleanest of air with the warmest of welcomes. Nature right outside your window. Many birds to watch including a regular visiting woodpecker.

Delicious home made cream tea on arrival. Provision of Bread, eggs, milk and butter and fresh flowers also very made us feel very welcome. Our dogs were not left out as a tasty biscuit, treat and clean towel were also provided. Loved the owners dogs, horses in the field opposite and the chickens and their chicks roaming trough the garden. Views were amazing! Very peaceful and tranquil setting. Very clean and well equipped property - including comfortable armchairs!

The extra effort by the owners to make people welcome was appreciated. As well as the usual cream tea it was nice to have bread; milk; butter and eggs left for us and, unusually, liquid soap and shower gel in the bathrooms.

Beautifully presented and felt really welcome with the extra touches, for example, bread, milk, butter etc and a beautiful cream tea on arrival. Even bones and towels for the dogs.

The cottage is in an ideal location, and contains everything needed for a relaxing holiday.

Situated in a secluded position overlooking fabulous views. Cottage had everything we needed and more. Near wonderful walks and 30 minutes from beaches. We and our Labrador had a great time. We hope to return.

The property is in a beautiful location and is very comfortable with everything you could possibly need for a stay away from home. The owners were very welcoming and friendly and they provided little extra touches over and above expectation which made our stay overall feel more special. Popplestone is idyllic - beautiful cottage, stunning views, wonderful and welcoming farm dogs and cats, lovely owners - basically one of the best, most relaxing holidays we've ever had.The cottage is full of little extras - definitely one of the best equipped I've ever been to, which added to the comfort and homeliness. Plus the weather - for mid-October - was glorious. The highlight for me was the daily visit by Angus and Dexter, the owner's dogs, who popped in every morning for some fuss and attention, followed by Bumble and Buzz, two beautiful ginger tomcat brothers who loved to play! The location of the cottage was in a part of the country I'd not visited before, and was amazed by the landscape - absolutely stunning. We didn't visit anything like the number of places we meant to, so I think a second visit will have to happen!

The Stay at Popplestone lived up to all our expectation, Very comfortable with every little detail catered for. A big Thankyou to the Family Simmonds for allowing us to bring our dogs and making everything so comfortable and of course classic cottages

I would say that the property and its location went beyond our expectations. One of the nicest cottages that we have stayed in and there have been many. There was plenty of everything that we needed and not just the bare essentials and it felt like a home with excellent furnishing. The extra touches such as a cream tea on arrival, fresh flowers and all the additional things that are not always there such as soap, shower cream, toilet rolls and dishwasher tablets etc were very much appreciated. The owners were there if we needed anything but they left us to ourselves.

Property is in an amazing location with views not done justice to in the picture. will be lovely to sit out on the veranda in the summer to watch the sunset. Popplestone was even better than expected, Barry and Barbara had thought of everything for the cottage Their hospitality was second to none, they provided us with beautifully home cooked scones strawberry jam and clotted cream also home cooked bread and even butter, we did not want to come away! our dog Freddie loved their friendly dogs Dexter and Angus, we look forward to another visit .

What an absolutely delightful cottage. We were greeted with a lovely warm welcome by Barry, and seen off with a lovely goodbye by Barbara - a really lovely touch (and Barbara's home made scones, bread and the farm eggs, clotted cream and jam too...marvellous). Throughout we knew they were there if we needed them, but not once did they intrude..... just as it should be. The cottage itself is EXACTLY what you see in the brochure and on the website - really, if you like the look of it, you'll love it in real life! Beautiful views (and chickens laying eggs by the parking space!) and a really cosy, tidy, clean and well equipped cottage (which has been finished to a really high standard). If you have dogs, you can't fault it.....there is a glorious hour-or-so walk around the farm right on your doorstep..... and the farm dogs (Angus & Dexter) are really lovely...our toy poodle (Sidney) loved their company........... You're within half an hour of Axminster, Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Exeter, Dawlish, Teignmouth and Shaldon too. We will heartily recommend Popplestones to friends and family and we do exactly the same to you - book it, you will not be disappointed.

10/10 Have hired many cottages over the years but this was excellant. Everything about the cottage was great but also the owners, couldn't be more friendly & helpful..watchin their horses having shoes fitted & being able to feed them was a real treat for my little girl who loves horses.Also meeting their two dogs who were friendly & so sweet. We hope to return

Fantastic accommodation for your holidays, lovely and clean, good quality furnishings and everything is home from home you would not need to take anything" just in case" as everything has been provided. The welcome is amazing, Fresh made scones clotted cream and jam, wine, pack of butter, loaf of bread , milk what a lovely gesture and this is every year not just a one off.
