Crab Apple Cottage is perfectly placed for the tranquility of the Blackdown Hills and the dramatic scenery and beaches of the east Devon Jurassic Coast. This newly renovated, detached barn conversion has been carefully designed to give guests privacy, with plenty of outside space and a peaceful outlook over a wildlife and hay meadow. The setting at the end of a private lane includes access to a wonderful two and a half acre arboretum, which contains more than 200 very special trees. The outlook from the fully enclosed cottage garden is lovely as it is but the extra space of the arboretum is a wonderful and unique bonus to explore, with paths cut through the grass, where you can sit and read or have a relaxing picnic on a lazy sunny afternoon.

This cottage has been designed to be as eco-friendly as possible with some forward thinking features built into the design. It has a gorgeous kitchen/dining-room with real farmhouse character alongside a stylish contemporary feel, with double doors to the patio. There is a large sitting-room with a wood-burner, a fabulous 43 inch Smart TV with all the usual terrestrial channels and the added bonus of super-fast broadband. This room also has access directly to the patio and private garden. Upstairs are the main bedroom with an en suite shower-room, a second bedroom with 'zip and link' (super-king or twin) beds and a bathroom with a fitted shower. An atrium on the landing between the bedrooms is a special feature that brings extra light into this very welcoming, dog-friendly property.

The cottage is the other side of the farmyard where the owners live so you will feel very independent and private but they are on hand should you need anything.

Mrs Bodsworth

Crab Apple Cottage is beautifully appointed and very comfortable. Lovely spot to explore the Devon countryside. Garden is very secure for four legged visitors which is very reassuring and the arboretum and/or field are great for them to run around in. The owners couldn’t be more helpful. Highly recommended.

Mr Freeman

We've just returned from our sixth stay at Crab Apple Cottage...it is a lovely cottage which feels like a real home from home. Lucy and Ian are perfect hosts; they are never intrusive but are happy to chat and share local knowledge when the occasion arises. The welcome pack is generous and much appreciated. The cottage is extremely comfortable and well equipped; the spacious kitchen is a delight to cook in, the bedrooms are comfortable with plenty of storage space and everything is so well maintained and clean. Lovely outside space too, with the arboretum as a bonus! We hope to be back next year.

Mrs Stabbins

Amazing second stay, peaceful and so well equipped it just made our holiday perfect!! Comfy beds and sofas and enclosed gardens and fields for our dogs to run free in. Highly recommend

Mrs Lewis

This was our 3rd visit to Crab Apple Cottage which we and our dogs absolutely love. Everything was as pristine and well equipped as we remembered it. It is well placed to explore this part of Devon and revisit old favourites. It is an excellent holiday home and Lucy and Ian are super hosts. We hope to return next year.

Mr Wilde

This property is very clean and well maintained with everything you need for a comfortable break. Our dog absolutely loves the freedom of the garden which is very secure and we always have a lovely time when staying at Crab Apple Cottage. Lucy and Ian are lovely hosts and their property is maintained to the highest standards which is why we continue to book this location.

Mr Webb

Just finished a week's stay at the cottage and enjoyed every minute. Everything you need while away from home is catered for. From the welcome pack at the start to leaving. Fantastic enclosed garden for our dog and great days out(the weather did help!). A must-visit is Lyme Regis and make sure you go fossil hunting on the beach. Beer quarry tunnels are a must especially if you are stuck for something to do on a rainy day. Thank you Ian and Lucy who were exceptional hosts.

Mrs Rush

This cottage is very comfortable with everything you need for an enjoyable holiday. The bed was very comfortable. The smart TV worked well with no loss of signal during our stay. We had two labradors with us and appreciated the size of the garden along with the bonus of being able to use 2 neighbouring fields. The arboretum was a nice place for an evening stroll. The cottage is in a very quiet location with good places to visit nearby. The owners were friendly and helpful and didn’t intrude on our holiday.

Miss Ward-Bradley

We had a very relaxing week at Crab Apple Cottage. It is a lovely cottage in peaceful surroundings, so comfortable and had everything we needed and more - a home from home! Would highly recommend staying here, one of the nicest cottages we have stayed in Devon and our dog loved the enclosed garden and walks direct from the cottage. Lucy and Ian were very friendly and super helpful - would definitely love to return!

Ms Casimir

We loved, loved, loved Crab Apple Cottage! We stayed for 2 weeks and despite the changeable weather we had a wonderful time. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend particularly if you have pooches in tow. Accommodation and location were spot on. Lucy and Ian were great hosts. They went above and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable and relaxing stay. We would love to return.

The large, secure garden was excellent for the dog and we were able to chill on the loungers and eat on the patio. The arboretum was lovely to wander around in the evening. The whole place was peaceful and beautiful and gave easy access to lots of countryside walks. The EV charger was an added bonus and was very easy to use. We also appreciated being able to buy some produce from the farm to enjoy now we are home.

Mrs Corney

One word for our holiday experience at Crab Apple Cottage: Excellent! Such a beautiful place, fabulous cottage with every comfort provided, charming and helpful hosts. The garden was perfect for our two golden retrievers, the Arboretum beautiful and perfect for a little stroll with them! Thank you Lucy and Ian

Mrs Thomas

This was our 5th visit to Crab Apple cottage. We always enjoy our stay, Lucy and Ian are great hosts and nothing is too much trouble.

Mrs Smith

We had a fabulous stay at Crab Apple Cottage. The location is brilliant and useful for so many places and extremely handy being so close to the m5. The cottage is lovely and had absolutely everything we needed. The beds are incredibly comfortable and the garden is lovely. Hope to stay again.

Ms Fleming

This is a five star property with wonderful owners who have thought of everything to make your stay as perfect as possible. There is lots to do and see in East Devon and Dorset, but it’s lovely to come back to this peaceful and cosy retreat at the end of a busy day - or if the weather is misbehaving!

Mr Berry

First class cottage, would highly recommend , finishing touches, cleanliness and attention to detail made our stay all the better this is all down to the owners make you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Cottage was nicely tucked out of the way, so very private and nicely secluded but easy access to the coast, local towns and points of interest. We will definitely be returning.

Mr Burgess

We would highly recommend your stay at Crab apple cottage. So peaceful and relaxing location, and very easey to commute from too all areas of Devon Dorset Somerset and Cornwall.

Mrs Stabbins

We really can’t recommend this place enough!! From the comfy beds and sofas to the huge garden for the dogs to run around. Being in the middle of nowhere was just what we wanted to destress and chill out doing jigsaws and exploring the countryside. Loved the apple juice and seeing them pressing it was lovely. The tv had all the smart apps etc so we watched our favourite shows plus an enormous range of dvd’s to watch plus books and games. Little things that made a difference……gates to stop the doggies going where they shouldn’t in the house, dog bowls and a mat plus in a cupboard long lines and their own towels!! Ice cubes made for us and a welcome pack of milk, bread, butter, jam and juice!! Have booked for next year already

Mrs Thomas

This was our fourth visit to the cottage and we feel that it is such a ‘home from home’ we are always so relaxed knowing that it does exactly what it says on the tin! Lucy and Ian are great hosts as always. We have already booked for next year.

Mrs Price

Crab Apple Cottage is a real gem. Beautiful location and near to so many local attractions. Lucy and Ian are fantastic hosts and very welcoming. Lovely places to eat nearby too.

Mrs Lewis

Crab apple cottage was every bit as lovely as we remembered it from last year. Everything you could need for a relaxing holiday had been thought of by Lucy and Ian who are excellent hosts. Ourselves and our dogs had a wonderful week and will definitely be booking for next year.

Mrs Sargent

This is a beautiful cottage in an ideal location to access lots of Devon. Furniture, bedding, etc all good quality. The owners Lucy and Ian are very friendly, helpful, their home made produce of chutneys, jams and cider were delicious. Would recommend this cottage to families and couples throughout the year.

Mrs Thomas

This is our third visit to Crab Apple Cottage and we still enjoy it as much as our first visit. Lucy and Ian are great hosts and nothing is too much trouble. The cottage has everything you need for a very comfortable stay and a good location to get out and about. We have booked again for later in the year and again for next year.

Mrs Beale

Crab Apple cottage is a wonderful space to relax and unwind in the heart of East Devon. The cottage itself is cosy, beautifully furnished and very well equipped. It's within easy reach of the coast, Exeter and Dartmoor but there are many gems to visit closer to home too; magnificent hill forts at Blackbury Camp and Hembury, beautiful woodland at Blackborough and wonderful gardens and houses at NT properties Killerton, A la Ronde and Knightshayes. We also especially like the Donkey Sanctuary at Sidmouth and walking the coast path between there and Branscombe. Another favourite spot is Budleigh Salterton where the walk to the cafe at Otterton is full of wildlife and interest. The Drewe Arms at Broadhembury is excellent for food. Lucy and Ian are exceptional hosts at Crab Apple; they are on hand if needed but generally unobtrusive. The welcome pack is full of home produced, delicious treats. Last, but definitely not least, I need to mention the arboretum; literally on the doorstep, this is a magical place to listen to the dawn chorus, soak up the scent of the apple blossom and truly get away from it all, relax and recharge. We've visited four times now and already looking forward to our fifth stay next year!

Mrs Parker

This was our third stay in this wonderful cottage, a real home from home. Peaceful and just what you need to escape the rat race. The cottage is so well equipped , the owners have thought of everything . Totally perfect

Mrs Winch

Quiet peaceful and totally chilling cottage in beautiful location

Mrs Williams

This is our third visit to this cottage - which I think says it all. The cottage is welcoming, clean and exquisitely presented. All the furnishings are of a very high standard. The bed is so comfortable, a great night's sleep is a given. It is light and airy and conversely, the log burner makes it warm and toasty, in the cooler months. The patio and garden are both generous in size and very dog-friendly, as it is fully enclosed. They are both well maintained. With its rural location, it is quiet and relaxing, yet its proximity to the coast and M5, means all parts of Devon are easy to access. Lucy and Ian are lovely and friendly hosts. The welcome pack, of their home produced crab apple jelly and fresh eggs, are a delight. This is an absolute gem of a cottage and we will definitely be returning.

Mrs Nunns

A wonderful place to stay in a beautiful area, a perfect place to relax but also with plenty of places to visit within easy reach. Super hosts who have a variety of home grown produce available, depending on the time of year you might be able to sample delicious cider, crab apple jelly, vegetables and fresh eggs.

Mr Wilde

We had a lovely stay in March 2023 and everything was perfect. The cottage is first class and in a lovely location with the nearest pub being a short walk away. We were able to let our dog run around the garden safe in the knowledge that adequate fencing would keep him contained and therefore allow us to relax and enjoy the holiday stress free. The owners are lovely people and while making sure that we had everything that we needed left us alone to enjoy the cottage and the lovely local area where people are friendly and there are plenty of local pubs with good food to enjoy. We have already booked to go back in October of this year and we would highly recommend this cottage to others who want a holiday in Devon.

Mrs Williamson

This was our second visit to Crab Apple Cottage and it did not disappoint. We originally chose the cottage last year because we had a newborn with us as well as older child and it looked perfect, and it was. We returned with a now 1yo and it's so lovely for families with young children because of the added touches like stair gates, wooden cot with comfy mattress and bedding and a safe fenced off garden. All the features of the cottage are such high quality, we particularly love the beds and how comfortable they are. The location of the cottage is also a selling point for us as it's quiet and secluded on the owners farm but you are so close to the M5 and lots of local attractions for days out. We hope to return for a third visit next year and can't thank Lucy and Ian enough for their warm welcome and impeccable hospitality.

Mr Harding

Another fantastic stay in Crab Apple Cottage. Would highly recommend to anyone. Well equipped, comfortable, clean holiday cottage with the owners Lucy and Ian in the property next door who are extremely welcoming and always on hand if you need anything.

Mr Macfarlane

Spacious barn, with comfortable furnishings. Excellently equipped beautiful outdoor space for dogs. Pretty local villages/pubs to visit and coast is 30/40 minutes away

Mr Claridge

Wonderful cottage to stay at with every comfort. Lovely owners and welcome pack. 5 star.

Mrs Thomas

Crab Apple Cottage is a very well equipped cottage, everything you need is on hand. Lucy and Ian are great hosts. This is our second visit and we still love it,we have already booked twice for next year.

Mrs Inwood

Crab Apple Cottage is a superb place to stay. The Arboretum is a delight to wonder around. This is definitely a little jem to return too.

Mrs Bingle

We had another wonderful holiday in this beautiful dog friendly cottage in the heart of Devon. Couldn't fault it. The hosts Lucy and Ian were brilliant as always and the cottage has everything you could possibly need on holiday. It's like home from home with large comfy beds, great showers and a large open plan kitchen dining room area. Perfect for everyone.

Mr Jevons

A lovely property in a great setting. It has the benefit of feeling very secluded but is still close to road links for days out. The property itself is modern and very well kept. The owners were very friendly and helpful, and we appreciated the welcome gift of some of their own produce.

Mr Pickett

Crabapple Cottage is a very well appointed property that worked really well for us. Ian and Lucy were great and made us feel very welcome. The cottage is in a lovely area. we'd certainly like to stay again.

Mrs Holloway

Well what can I say, but simply fabulous. Beautiful property, with every detail thought of. Every thing you need for your holiday, as my husband said, if you can't find it you've not looked hard enough. Ian and Lucy were the best hosts, involving us with the farm, especially as we were there for haymaking. The arbouretum is a must, so peaceful and tranquil. We walked our dogs there twice a day, my favourite place. The garden was big and secure for both our dogs. All I can add is we will definitely be back and we loved every relaxing minute of our holiday.

Mrs Withers

Crab Apple Cottage was beautifully furnished and decorated. It provided everything you could possibly want and more being an Eco property. It’s location was excellent with easy access to both the coast and inland attractions. The owners Ian and Lucy were lovely and very welcoming, and what a pleasure it was to stroll through their extensive Arboretum and sit on the bench and listen to the bird song. Overall a brilliant week in a property I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Mrs Beale

Crab Apple cottage is a real gem. The standard of furnishing, equipment, comfort and cleanliness is exceptional and this is simply the best cottage we have stayed in. Lucy and Ian are excellent hosts; nothing is too much trouble and they really go the extra mile to ensure that their visitors have a memorable experience. The outside space is lovely and the arboretum is simply beautiful and such a unique selling point. Lucy's welcome pack is so thoughtful too; it's lovely to have such delicious local produce, and as usual I came home with a few jars of Daisyland crab apple jelly. This was our third visit and we've just booked to go back next year. Need I say more?

Mrs Williams

This is our second visit to this absolute gem of a property. It is clean, tidy and exceptionally well presented - both inside and out. The decor is fresh and modern, yet still keeps a lovely country feel - a neat trick. The furnishings and finishes are exquisite and well thought out. The bed is very comfortable. The log burner a real treat, in the cooler months. Plus a private patio and garden, which are great to eat and relax in. This is a great cottage for dog owners, as the garden is spacious, fully enclosed, safe and escape proof. Inside, there is a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs, which means there's no worry about them disappearing upstairs. Lucy and Ian are great hosts, welcoming and friendly, without being intrusive. A visit to the Keepers Cottage (the pub through the woods) is an absolute must, as it has a lovely beer garden and has very generous portions of delicious food. We've already booked to go back next year. I can highly recommend this property.

Crab Apple cottage is a beautiful barn conversion, that has been completed to an exceptionally high standard. It is even lovelier in real life - and the website photos already make it look great! The decor, furniture and finishing touches have been well thought out and are of a very high standard indeed. The garden and patio are generous, clean and well maintained. The fencing (and chicken wire), ensure that both children and dogs are safe and secure, within its boundaries. A great sun trap and a lovely space to play or relax. What a beautiful property, I could have stayed there forever! Lucy and Ian were very welcoming hosts and they have thought of every possible comfort. This is an eco house, running off solar panels in the field, we were fascinated by the latest tech 'mirror heaters' in all the rooms. The garden was fully dog proof and we could walk the dog around the beautiful arboretum and hay fields on site. The house is in a wonderful situation, it feels like you are miles from anywhere although you are actually very close to everything. Our party of three had the most relaxing week, my only regret was that it was too warm to use the lovely log burner! Devon is beautiful and everywhere is so dog friendly it is a breath of fresh air.

Lovely cottage, with modern furnishings. The garden is fully fenced with wooden post and rail, and chicken wire making it completely dog proof! The setting is very peaceful and there are a number of good pubs close by. The owners Lucy and Ian are very kind and friendly and are around should you have any problems. They are equally happy to give you complete privacy too.

The owners make adults and children alike so very welcome - would highly recommend

Crab Apple Cottage is an outstanding property in every sense. The cottage is thoughtfully and beautifully restored, offering both style and comfort. The location is super, complete peace and quiet with a real sense of being away from it all. We loved the outdoor space, the garden and arboretum where everything was coming to life with the arrival of spring. The Owners Lucy and Ian are fantastic hosts, kind and hospitable and there is you need anything but mindful of privacy. We have had a perfect week that exceeded expectations and we will certainly return. Thank you.

Mr Partelides

Great stay at Crab Apple Cottage. The property is immaculately presented and there are lots of thoughtful little touches from the home produce welcome gift to the supply of local maps and walking books. The large windows mean the house is always full of light and the eco heating system was so efficient we didn’t get to try out the cosy wood burning stove. The surrounding countryside provides lots of opportunities for coastal or hill walks and the hosts are on site if you want any help or local advice. We have already booked a return visit for next summer!

Mrs Calfo

The owners attention to detail was felt and she works hard to create a pleasant stay. The photographs of the cottage on the website match expectations. We had a lovely time and felt very much at home.
