Reviews

Less than half a mile from the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, The Old Manor House is a beautiful 16th Century, Grade II Listed house, full of character with a delightful enclosed garden and a games-room with a pool table. This spacious and elegant terraced house is the perfect location for a memorable family holiday, a special celebration or a gathering of friends - and your dogs are welcomed too!

Situated in the village of Charmouth, with a shop, bakery and two pubs within a five minute walk and just 10 minutes to the beach - you may decide to abandon the car for a few days and just enjoy life in this coastal village. The beach is famous for fossil finds; the most common are ammonites and small examples can be collected from along the foreshore.

The open plan kitchen/dining-room is very well-equipped for holiday feasts, a separate snug, sitting-room with wood-burner, games-room and ground floor wet-room allow plenty of space for everyone. The first floor, equally spacious and accessed by two separate staircases, has five bedrooms - two doubles, one with an en suite shower-room, a triple room (which can also be made up as a double and a single for added flexibility, if wished), a twin room and a single room - a family bathroom and cloakroom.

Mr Thomas

Good clean house for big group with children . Well located good garden excellent play facilities near. Cafe bakery and pub yards away and beach short walk

Mrs Clark

Our second family holiday at the Old Manor House. This time we were able to enjoy the garden in springtime. The proximity to both the beach and the excellent village shop was ideal. The cafe is friendly and welcoming, serving lovely coffee. The house is ideal for families and our three generations enjoyed spending time there together. It’s comfortable, well equipped and spacious.

Mr Joyce

This was our second stay here and we loved it. Great well equipped property in a fab location. Hope to visit again.

Mr Bridges

Charmouth is a delightful seaside spot beautifully situated. The Old Manor is on ‘The street’ which is more orl less all that Charmouth is as a town. There are few shops, but theCoop, just 20 yards away from the house has a surprising range of food goods: there is an excellent fish and chip sho (about 100 yards down the hill), a nice pub that served a good Sunday roast and a baker (both within 100 yards): and the beach really is only a 10 minute walk. Great place for a family holiday without a lot of seaside rubbish!

Mr Meakin

The care taken to provide for guests is astonishing - from local guidebooks to rock hammers (for fossil hunting) to milk in the fridge and flowers on the table when we arrived. A huge amount of care (and effort) has been taken to make a stay here feel like a holiday from the moment you first step inside.

Mrs Giles

You won't be disappointed when you book The Old Manor House. It is wonderfully located in the village and convenient for getting about the area which has much to enjoy. It truly was like a home from home and extremely well-equipped. Ours was a grown up family holiday and we found we had the space to be apart but importantly, to come together too. Over a game of pool, around the kitchen table, breakfast on the patio and in various areas of the beautiful garden. The garden was an added pleasure we hadn't anticipated, there was more of it than we thought. With four cars, we had been concerned about the parking aspect. However, we always found a free space if not outside, then very close.

Mrs Gilden

This is such a lovely house to stay in, spacious for our party of 9 and two dogs. The garden is very well kept and we enjoyed playing croquet with the provided set, thank you for all the various beach toys,. The beds were comfy with good linen, all well appointed rooms. The kitchen was a great place to gather, full size table for everyone. The pool (snooker) room was great for our teenagers and indeed all the family. The wet room was wonderful for post sea activities and hanging wet suits to dry. Great position with very well stocked local shop a couple of minutes away, the pubs, the beach and country walks all on the doorstep. Would very happily return!

Dr Frewin

This sprawling Manor House and garden has all the space for a larger family or group of friends in a central location in Charmouth. It is well equipped for larger groups (two dishwashers!), accommodating sunny days on the beach or rainy days requiring indoor entertainment (note the lovely pool table, which filled our evenings with competitive laughter). As a professional geologist, having the World Class Jurassic Coast mere metres from the doorstep is a privilege, and one the whole family enjoyed most days as we looked for hidden treasures on the beach. The house has a deep historical past, and may be on local historical trails as you wonder why passers-by are stalling at the gate. There are well-stocked shops within short walking distance and two pubs, both of which we tried (and can recommend for their friendly welcome). The nearby takeaway was excellent for evenings where cooking or going out proved to be a chore - the fish and chips were really delicious. We had one large dog with us, who enjoyed the enclosed garden. The garden is well-maintained by some friendly gardeners, who left some food for a visiting young hedgehog, which we saw most evenings. The internet was not working for the initial part of our stay (which caused a little concern given some work commitments). However, Dawn the house keeper, was preemptive in letting us know and took quick action to resolve (it was an issue at BT’s end and not really an issue with the property). For larger parties (and the house is priced for such) with multiple vehicles, I can imagine that parking could be an issue. By the evening there can be a competition with well-deserving locals for remaining parking spaces (and we only had one vehicle). There are nearby car parks but, as you can imagine, these are priced for daytime beach parking by summer visitors. If parking is not an issue, then the Old Manor House is a beautiful house in which to spend some quality time with friends and family, on the doorstep of the Jurassic Coast. (Try: The Anchor at Seatown - beautiful food; The Lyme Regis Brewery - splendid craft beer).

Mr Huckin

Stunning home! We had an amazing week here

Mrs Firman

When we arrived at The Old Manor House we found it to be very clean and we were greeted with a bottle of champagne, cake and card , a very nice welcome indeed. The cottage was very comfortable, spacious and extremely well equipped . The billiard table was a welcome extra as the weather wasn’t great . We would certainly recommend the house . Also very close to Lyme Regis where there are many things to do.

Mr Spark

A lovely cottage in a wonderful location. The cottage is full of character & located perfectly for the beach, shop & pubs. There were 7 of us in total & never felt crowded. Dawn & Liz looked after us from the start & went beyond expectations in helping with parking (trailer) & the Christmas tree. Would love to go back.

Dr Newell

This lovely ils house was perfect for a family gathering. All ages were catered for. It was warm and well situated.

Mrs Kenning

WE COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW CLEAN, WELL EQUIPPED, BRILLIANTLY LOCATED FOR THE BEACH, NISA ( almost everything one could possibly require) PHARMACY, EXCELLECT FARM SHOP etc the house was. We would certainly book again. Loved Lyme Regis without the crowds after the weekend .. found the creperie,. I do have friends near Blandford and they didn’t know Charmouth and they loved it too, THANK YOU We all had a fantastic holiday. In fact my husband has just said we want to keep it a secret and I agree.

Ms. Laswed

Our stay at the Old Manor House was such a great experience. It was our first stay at a fully self catered home. The house was so well equipped and was immaculately clean. I found communicating with the housekeeper, Dawn, very straightforward and she was readily available. Putting the fire on in the evening and sitting in the living room was lovely. Would definitely recommend your company and service- and looking forward to booking with you again in the future. Thank you.

Mrs James

Great cottage for large parties .. comfy and cozy with everything you could possibly need in the kitchen .. The pool table was perfect ..as the weather wasnt .. so it was well used !! Beautiful gardens !

Mrs Turnell

We credit this property for making our holiday so special. A beautiful, character house and magical garden which none of us wanted to stray far from. Your every need is thought of with an extremely well-equipped kitchen, pool table and if required buckets, spades, garden and indoor games. The housekeeping is superb which is important regardless but even more so during these nervous times. It was a joy to stay there.

Mrs Elvin

Such a beautiful house, immaculate and well fitted out. So much space and everything we hoped for. I loved the garden which was obviously well cared for and just perfect for three big dogs who could zoom about safely!

Mrs Bain-Mollison

The layout and the location plus being able to park right outside is amazing. The games, pool room and layout of the house make it a great place to stay. The beds were comfy too.

Mrs Storey

The Old Manor House is lovely and so is the garden. Would highly recommend for a holiday.

Mrs Clark

Perfect for an autumn family holiday.

Dr Turner

Amazing location and an absolute pleasure to stay in this fabulous house. Looking forward to returning.

Mrs Tyler

Ideal for family gatherings, the owner has given a lot of thought to ensuring that everyone is catered for. One of the best holiday homes I have stayed in

Mrs Gosden

It was a wonderful stay in a perfect property and superb location. The only thing missing was cutlery trays for the dishwashers otherwise the kitchen was massively well stocked with every item you could wish for. It was beautifully clean and we wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely return. Thanks to you and the owners for my husband’s birthday cards and bottle. He enjoyed his 60th Birthday very much!

Ms Coombs

Excellent, thoughtful and personalised service, along with a beautiful propery. We would highly recommend Classic Cottages and will definitely be using them again.

Mr Inglis

This is our second visit the house is beautiful. It’s well equipped the kitchen exceptionally so. Decorated in keeping with its period and the beds are so comfortable. Close to the beach I”d recommend it for a large family or group get away.

Mrs Lealan

Warm, comfortable, spacious, well equipped, home from home - simply lovely.

Mrs Matthews

An exceptional property - everything I hoped for and more during my stay. I didn't know Charmouth but would definitely return should I have the need for a large house in the future. The owner is very proactive too and a boon that they are happy to have dogs. It's my third property through you and you have never disappointed! Thank you

Mrs Rixson

Great house in a great location. Lovely secure garden. Brilliantly equipped. Lovely touches for a New Year’s Eve stay. Great attention to detail and excellent customer service from housekeeper. Thank you!!

Mrs Pashley

Beautiful cottage, perfect location, lovely little town not too busy, everything you need you can buy there, so didn’t need the car, which we managed to park outside the property, easy walk to the beach which was just perfect. Definitely would come back

Mrs Bleakley

lovely, relaxing cottage, kitchen is very well equipped and garden is fantastic, sun all day in different bits, and lovely to relax in - a stones throw from Charmouth beach... and a quiet house at night

Miss Smith

This cottage is perfect in every way. We especially enjoyed the log fire. Thank you!!

Mrs Jenkins

It's an old house so part of its charm is the slightly uneven floors here and there. Very full kitchen with all the utensils you could ask for so eating in was easy. Centrally located so very easy to eat out or take away too. Shops were well equipped and the bakery a couple of doors down is wonderful. Lots of space for all the family and we thought the garden was charming. Very pleasant stay. Thank you Mrs Inghams.

Mrs Gardner

My 4 friends were looking for a special property in which to spend our annual girls away weekend and The Old Manor House more than met our expectations. We all slept well in the lovely comfy beds and loved the kitchen, so well equipped. In 11 years of our October weekends , The Old Manor House is one of the best properties we have stayed on and we are all very, very fussy!
