The Coach House

A very well presented cottage in beautiful surroundings.

The Coach House is a wonderfully appointed cottage in a superb location. We can’t praise the property highly enough and have stayed at The Coach House for the last two years and look forward to returning next year. It is ideally situated for exploring Devon, Somerset and Dorset with the coast not far away. Our favourite beach is Beer beach where you can hire deckchairs and a parasols and spend a relaxing day by the sea.

Excellent place to stay for peace and quiet and access to the coast.

We were very happy with our stay at The Coach House. The grounds we overlooked were spectacular and even though we had a wooded area above where we were staying it was not that easy to access it. Having said that, both my friend and I are in our 70s and a rail to hold on to over on the nearest side to the house would have been appreciated. We did have a lovely sun trap terrace though and perhaps if it was the height of summer a parasol or awning to give some shade would be a good addition. These are minor niggles though - the property itself is beautiful, all the furnishings are of an excellent standard, the beds and linen as good as the finest hotel. We were very impressed and would recommend this beautiful property wholeheartedly.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage - everything you could need is provided. The property is in a secluded area (accessed by a single track road) in lovely grounds next to the main house. Axminster is a lovely little town and we had good evening meals at the George pub/restaurant and the Italian. We would recommend this as a lovely cottage that’s in easy reach of local attractions.

A delightful welcome to see the Christmas tree up (as we had pre planed in bringing our own mock up). A spacious property inside and out providing private entry. Easy access to the coast.

Very good location within easy driving distance of places to visit. Ideal for a dog. Property definitely spacious enough for 4 adults. Private although next door to the owners.

This is our second visit to the Coach House and it is a really lovely cottage, owned by very nice people and maintained by a really lovely housekeeper and her husband. Well equipped, spotlessly clean, comfortable furniture and lovely beds. I would whole heartedly recommend it. Beautiful, peaceful location too!

Delighted to stay at the Coach House again. Excellent facilities. Very Good mobile phone signal and Broadband connection. This property has lovely gardens and is in easy reach of the south Devon coast.

The Coach House is in a spectacular location. Cloakham House was once the home of the maker of Axminster carpets, and the Coach House forms part of that. It has been furnished with great style and comfort in mind, just what you want for a great escape to the country.

We could not fault the Coach House in any way. It was warm and comfortable with absolutely everything we needed. The gardens are beautiful and a visit from a deer one morning really made our day! We wouldn’t hesitate to return again to such a peaceful place.

We had a superb tranquil and relaxing 9 days break in January, weather was cold but cottage was warm and cosy, with the log burner. Furnishings were exceptionally comfortable and the entire cottage was well equipped, we wanted for nothing. Host was available and attentive on the one occasion he was required. The location is perfect for walks and with easy access by car to the coast and local attractions. The website photos do not do justice to the house and grounds.

We had a pleasant stay at the Coach House. Thought had been put into the furnishings and decorative ornaments made the house feel homely. It was clean and welcoming.

We could not have asked for more. The cottage is furnished to a very high standard and tastefully decorated.

Enjoyed a wonderful sunny two week stay at the Coach House. The property is well equipped, very clean and has spacious rooms, which have been very tastefully furnished. The outside space has a lovely sunny patio area and the property is surrounded by plenty of flowers and mature trees. We did not have any problems negotiating the narrow lane leading up to the property as we rarely met another vehicle. The Welcome Basket was much appreciated. Hope to return next year as there is plenty of Devon still to explore and favourite places to return to.

It obviously ticked all the boxes for me (David), it was the first one I looked at in the location we wanted for our quite week away.

A very well equipped, very cosy cottage. The decor was simple but effective and the cottage was spotless. we would definitely book this one again. The welcome gifts were very thoughtful too.

Excellent property with all the home-from-home comforts that you are looking for on holiday. Clean, tidy, very spacious and thoroughly modern. Presumably this is newly renovated as everything seemed to be brand new, although the odd older pieces of furniture here and there added character. Unfortunately didn't have good enough weather to spend much time in the garden and patio but both had excellent facilities - even had a deer wandering through on our first evening! Would thoroughly recommend. We left the car at the house and walked into Axminster every day to catch busses to Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Seaton and Beer. Walk was about 20 mins via a country walk along the river Axe - very pleasant start/finish to each day. Would thoroughly recommend and we hope to return.

Immaculate, beautifully decorated accomadation, close to nearby beaches,15mins to lyme Regis,peaceful location very relaxing .

This is a beautiful property with everything needed for a relaxing stay. Sofas lovely and big as are the bedrooms. Getting to the property is easy, although it is up a single track without many passing places, so if meet another car can be a little bit of a problem. I am sure if you are lucky enough to stay at this property you will enjoy your holiday as we did.

Lovely comfortable property, we were there over christmas, so can only imagine how nice it would be in the spring/summer time. Very well equipped with everything you could need. Located with the coasts of dorset & devon in easy reach.

Lovely two weeks at the Coach House with wonderful weather. House was well equipped with beautifully kept grounds. The location is good for visiting nearby beaches and attractions in the area and also an easy drive for attractions in neighbouring Dorset and Somerset. The lane to the house is narrow (as mentioned in previous reviews) but we had no trouble negotiating this with our two cars. The walk from the house into Axminster along the river on a sunny morning was lovely but be aware that the return does have quite an incline to the house. We had a lovely holiday in a lovely cottage and area with amazing weather - we couldn’t ask for more

Beautiful tranquil cottage in a lovely garden setting. Ideal with a small dog. The location of the cottage worked very well with several places to visit and only a short drive involved.

The cottage is situated in the most stunning surroundings. It is a quiet and private setting. You are likely to see deer squirrels swans egrets etc. It is close to the Jurassic Coast and all amenities-- shops restaurants bars etc. If you like a property off the beaten track then this is the one for you.

The Coach House itself was warm cosy, well equipped and clean inside. Please think about changing the description of where the cottage is in relation to the owners property and the drive up to the Coach House.

The coach house was spacious comfortable and a pleasure to spend time there.

We both had a relaxing break and enjoyed our stay.

An incredibly comfortable cottage in beautiful surroundings but with easy access to places of interest in East Devon.

The Coach House was everything we wanted for a relaxing break.Very peaceful ,set in beautiful gardens and lovely walks from the house down to the River Axe. It was decorated beautifully and very clean. We had a lovely welcome basket on arrival and logs provided for the fire. We would love to come back again..

This property does not have a secure garden for a dog, and is therefore not dog friendly.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable week at the Coach House in October. Although it was typical autumn weather, quite rainy, the cottage was a warm, spacious and comfortable place to be, with all the amenities we needed. The location, with its peace and tranquillity, and beautifully maintained gardens, was a delight, and within easy distance of the sea for our excursions and coastal walks, when the sun came out.

Lovely location, spacious ideal for 2 couples. A bit of a challenge to get to the cottage via single track road, but the view, comfort and garden were worth it

The Coach House is a lovely comfortable, quiet cottage and very tastefully decorated with well tended gardens. A nice welcome pack was also included. The Coach House also has easy access to lots of other places like Lyme Regis, Sidmouth and Charmouth. Bicton Botanical Gardens are well worth a visit.

stylish, cosy, well located cottage

Liked the excellent directions to the property which were easy to follow. The welcome phone call from the Housekeeper to make sure that we had settled in ok. The prompt dealing with the issue with the washing machine. The welcome card and basket of wine and biscuits. The water and feeding bowls for our dog made her feel welcome as did the option to secure her on the pation with the lead extension. The standard of accommodation is very high and feels very 'home from home'
