Escape to the coast and this fabulous cottage where you can watch the seascape change all day long.

Just minutes from the harbour at Lyme Regis and its iconic Cobb, this Grade II Listed Victorian cottage was originally two coastguard officer's cottages, perched above the harbour keeping a watchful eye. It has been in the owners' family for three generations and has been brought back to life, retaining many original features, including slate flooring and a few pieces of furniture from its working days; add a wood-burner and you have all that you need for a perfect holiday.

The south-facing glass-fronted verandah allows the living space to be flooded with light and has panoramic views of Lyme Bay and the Jurassic Coast; the perfect place for an early cuppa, totally enclosed and sheltered even on the wildest of days, watching the harbour get to work and the sea birds swooping.

The sitting-room beyond is both spacious and cosy, with the original hearth and an atmospheric wood-burner that you can watch flicker and glow. Two large sofas and two fireside chairs provide the ideal spot for gazing out onto the decking and the bay beyond. The Smart TV has BT Vision/BT TV with sports package, Netflix and Xbox and a DVD player. Behind the sitting-room there is the added bonus of a snug with a TV, board games and a sofa if you need a rest, leaving the family to more hectic pursuits.

The ultra-modern kitchen is built upon the original 1840s slate floor and has all that you need to create a romantic supper or a family feast; an induction hob, electric oven and combination microwave/grill. As you would expect, the kitchen is well-stocked with glasses and gadgets. A huge American-style fridge/freezer has plenty of space for holiday treats and the dining-room is just off the kitchen with feature lighting and space for all the family.

Beyond the dining-room is a utility-area with a washing machine and facilities for recycling. Cobb Cottage has four bedrooms; the front two double rooms (with four-foot six-inch beds) and fabulous views of Golden Cap and the magnificent coastline. The main bedroom has a 'zip and link' (super-king or twin) bed. The Star room has twin beds (three-foot) and plenty of room for a travel cot. Super comfy beds and lovely linens add to the sense of holiday heaven. The ground floor bathroom has an electric shower over the bath and the first floor shower-room has a double shower – both have heated towel rails for toasty warm bathing. The elevated decked terrace and stylishly landscaped garden allow you to escape the busy waterfront and relax with breathtaking views; this must be one of the most wonderful places for al fresco dining.

The World Heritage Jurassic Coast surrounds you and Monmouth Beach, just five minutes away, beckons you to come and hunt for fossils.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Ms Ter Meulen

Absolutely lovely property, immaculately clean, and so well located for the beach! The open fire in the main lounge was a real treat (as we stayed in winter). The house offers plenty of space to not be on top of each other, inc a lovely snug. Great kitchen, very well equipped. We stay in Lyme a few times a year, so can highly recommend the area and now this property.

Mrs Shaw

Cobb Cottage is just beautiful, quirky, comfortable, well equipped and in a prime location for the beach. The housekeeper is a phone call away if any issues arise and is very efficient and friendly. We love spending Christmas there with the family.

Ms Smith

Another fantastic stay at Cobb Cottage, our third, for this four generation family! My Dad is 91 and can still manage the stairs thankfully! Well equipped and with plenty of space for us all. So close to the beach and amenities of Lyme. We’re already booked for next year!

Mrs Tomlin

Spotlessly clean, spacious and comfortable. Very well equipped in the kitchen and with books, also beach toys for children. We liked sitting in the warm conservatory when the weather was cool. Parking could be difficult in that central part of Lyme Regis but we had no problems, we used the allocated space for one car and paid the owner of the same private car park for an additional space at a similar rate to the public car parks. The cottage was within easy walking distance from the Cobb, beach, cafes, restaurants and shops.

Mrs Sheate

We absolutely loved Cobbs Cottage - perfect location, beautiful cottage, the cottage was equipped with everything from a full dishwasher to a coffee machine as well as dishwasher tablets, toilet paper etc. Perfect for 2 families catching up in beautiful Lyme Regis. Our only request is parking for 2 cars included as we had to make sure we were up early to move the car & pay daily in the nearby carpark for the week. Otherwise it was perfect. Thank you so much, we will definitely return!

Mr Madden

A lovely cottage with great views, in a superb location steps away from the beach and restaurants, and with its own parking space which is a huge benefit in the area.

Mrs Jones

Very nice holiday thank tou

Miss Johnstone

We had a lovely stay at Cobb Cottage. You couldn't ask for a better location. The decor and furnishings were lovely and the kitchen was really well equipped. Thank you

Mr Davidson

A nice clean property with great access to local amenities.

Mrs Lewalter

Cobb Cottage is in an ideal location for Lyme Regis. We were spoiled by a huge house on the Isle of Wight which made this feel a little small (the kitchen is quite tight), but actually it is a beautiful old house. Having two comfortable living rooms with two televisions was useful as a big family (4 children) during the summer Olympics! Some beds are more comfortable than others but it was certainly warm and cosy. We had great weather and enjoyed the outdoor dining area. The parking space is very close by. Quite pricey but a fabulous location.

Mrs Collins

Excellent clean spacious property large enough to comfortably accomodate 8 people. Kitchen fully equipped. Great location close to the Cobb and seafront. Set back far enough to enable you to enjoy peaceful time on front decking. Several lovely pubs and restaurants only a stroll away.

Mrs Rowe

If you are older, have reduced mobility, have a larger car, or over 5 feet 5inches and need to use the hob avoid this cottage

Mrs Attley

Cobb cottage is a wonderful property- cosy, clean and well equipped. The perfect base for a family holiday, all 3 generations loved every minute. Excellent service throughout from Classic Cottages.

Ms Mote

We had a wonderful stay - perfect location and the cottage had every equipment need to hand. We would definitely revisit - loved it.

Mrs Shaw

We had a wonderful Christmas at Cobb Cottage with our family. The kitchen was well equipped so no problems cooking Christmas dinner. We all had clean comfortable beds. Lovely to have the Christmas tree twinkling away. Would love to visit again. Thank you

Mrs Storrar

Our family of 6 + dog had a great week at Cobb Cottage. We were very lucky with the weather for October. The cottage location is excellent, near to the beach and The Cobb, and within a few minutes’ walk of the town centre, while the cottage itself feels secluded and peaceful. Very comfortable sofas and beds, and a newly fitted and exceptionally well-equipped kitchen. Everywhere was clean and welcoming. Very happy with our choice!

Mrs Forshaw

Lovely spacious cottage, in a wonderful location. Tastefully decorated, with very comfy sofas and beds. Very convenient parking.

Mrs Williams

Cobb Cottage is centrally-located, just a short walk up the hill from The Cobb. The cottage was beautifully clean with a modern kitchen that was fully equipped. Bed linen and towels were lovely and fresh. All the bedrooms were large and prettily decorated. Plenty of areas downstairs, to sit and relax, including the 'snug', near the stairs which was cosy & comfortable and also had a television. Perfect for our 16yr old grandson to chill out, away from the adults. The large lounge had 2 comfy sofas at the 'television' end and two extremely comfortable fireside chairs and coffee table at the other end. Perfect for some 'alone time'. Outside there is a large decking area with garden table and ample seating. We had a reserved parking space in the adjoining, small car park and were able to 'rent' another space for £70 which was ideal for us. A thoughtful 'personal touch' was the Welcome Hamper left for us by the owner. I cannot recommend Cobb Cottage highly enough.

Mrs Wareham

Fabulous location and very well equipped and spcious cottage... Great for a family of 8.

Mr Garlick

Fabulous location in a wonderful seaside town only let down by a cottage which needs a good clean, some basic faults sorting and damaged items replacing. Such a shame as it could be a real gem…..

Mrs Turnbull

A beautiful house in an amazing location, we loved it!

Ms Joseph

Whats not to love about Cobb Cottage! The views, the cottage, Lyme Regis and the people all are amazing.

Ms Smith

Our second stay at Cobb Cottage, and just as good as the first! A superb location for access to the sandy beach, which was wonderful for our Granddaughters, aged 2 & 4. Very well equipped, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. We will be back!

Mrs Marjoram

As two families of four everything was excellent, lots of room for children to play inside and out, very safe . Comfortable beds and lovely linen, spacious bedrooms.. Everything you need to relax and enjoy. Well positioned as long as you don’t mind a short steep walk up from the Cobb. Being half term the town was busy but exciting to see people spending again and enjoying themselves. Plenty of restaurants, cafes, bakeries, pubs, seating areas. Altogether a wonderful holiday, thank you

Ms Symcox

Cobb Cottage in Lyme Regis is well equipped and spacious - big enough for a big family. It’s in a beautiful location with sea views and plenty of outside space to enjoy the view. It’s in a great location with all of the beautiful resort of Lyme Regis within walking distance - we didn’t have to use the car which was a real bonus.

Mrs Barrow

The cottage is in an excellent position and is well equipped and comfortable for a family. Although I think could be quite tight for 8 adults. The bedrooms and downstairs furnishings are comfortable and homely and kitchen is well equipped. The parking space is really small and difficult to access when car spaces around it are in use. Great if you intend to park up and not use car for the week!

Dr Warren

Well maintained attractive early victorian coast guard house in a perfect location. It is a short walk to the harbour and beaches with a choice of good places to eat out.

Mr Flynn

Well equipped house with nice views in a lovely town

Dr Warren

Comfortable well located terrace house with an enclosed garden, close to harbour, beach and local amenities.

Mrs Podolsky

Lovely comfortable cottage in fabulous location but do fix the heating!

Ms Bobby

Thank you. We had a lovely stay in your cottage. It was a fabulous location for a winter break: great coastal walks, a cosy cottage to come back to, and pubs and restaurants a stones through away. I can see that most of the negative comments are about parking. I can say this is absolutely no problem out of season.

Mrs Adkins

Lovely cottage in a beautiful area, very convenient to beach. Lots of great, dog-friendly pubs and restaurants nearby. Enjoyed the sea-view, would be very happy to return!

Ms Smith

This was the best cottage we’ve ever had in terms of location, just a short walk to the sandy beach. Perfect for kids of all ages. Very well equipped although the induction hob took a bit of getting used to! The parking space is quite tight for a large car - thank goodness for parking cameras/sensors! Our second car was parked in Holmbush car park at the top of the hill for a week for £50.

Mrs Curzon

This was our second visit to Cobb Cottage and we had a lovely 4 days as a family group of 8 adults and a small dog. The cottage is very comfortable and characterful with plenty of space to relax and the conservatory has a lovely view of the sea. The location is perfect, being just a short walk to the town and the beaches and the parking space (although a little tight!) is a bonus! Would recommend!

Mr Wallace

Excellent historic holiday cottage in a great location, so handy for the beach and the town. Lots of space inside and in the garden. The inclusion of a parking space is an asset in Lyme Regis.

Mrs Downton

Great property, excellent position with a parking space

Mrs Stephens

A great location and property but needs better cleaning, a new sunshade and some cushions for the outside seats. It has excellent mattresses and kitchen equipment.

Miss Nahas

Excellent location but need to be improved upkeep of the property.

Mrs Barrow

This is a great family cottage to relax and spend time with family. Close to the beach, town centre and South West Coastal path. There are some great independent restaurants and ample public houses. Lyme has a vibrant feel where you can easily spend a week exploring.

Dr Wakefield

An excellent property. Clean, comfortable, very well equipped and plenty of space for a family group. Location is ideal for quick walks to harbour, beach and town. Car parking space is best suited to a small or medium sized car but a great asset in Lyme. Additional spaces can be prearranged with Undercliff guest house. Would certainly use again and happy to recommend to all.

Mrs Cockle-Hearne

Lovely cottage, perfect location, wish we had stayed another week.

Mrs Parry

A lovely and comfortable, well-equipped holiday cottage in a good location.

Mrs Curzon

Beautiful characterful cottage in an excellent location. This was our first visit to Lyme Regis and we had a lovely weekend away with our grown up family and small dog. Loved the town and beaches. The cottage was very stylishly decorated with plenty of space for everyone, very comfortable beds and the kitchen was really well equipped. The sofa in the conservatory was the perfect place to sit with a morning cup of tea and watch the sea view! Would highly recommend!

Mrs Creswick

Great Space , lovely views, well equipped shame about the staircase.

Ms Freckleton

I think the kitchen is amazingly equipped - plenty of glassware, crockery, cutlery and cookware. The appliances are modern and work well. There were also plenty of towels for our stay. The bathrooms and kitchen were clean, but the porch was covered in sand and the floors inside gritty on arrival. There were also empty sweet and crisp packets under the sofa. The hoover at the property had very poor suction and only worked if you took the floor piece off and used the nozzle. The squeegy mop was also unusable and very dirty. So it was very difficult to remedy this problem. One of our beds didn't have a sheet on, which we let the housekeeper know about on day 2. They took a day to reply and we were supposed to find a sheet ourselves to put on. The linen cupboard wasn't very well organised so I couldn't find anything suitable, and actually didn't want to spend my holiday doing this! The lightbulb didn't work in one of the rooms - not a big prob but in conjunction with the other issues made it feel that the turnaround clean was done very hastily and wasn't that thorough. The bin day is Monday, but arrival is Friday. Our bin was already overflowing when we arrived so we had to store half our holiday's rubbish until the bins were emptied. Again we let the housekeeper know about this, but there was no action in remedying this other than to tell us when the bin day was. The outside space was good and easy to use. But a little maintenance would have nade it nicer. For example the parasol cover was broken and the safety pin quick fix on it wasn't doing the trick. 30 mins worth of weeding would make all the difference too around the steps and in the pots. Another note is that the car parking space is very tight to get into, and reversing in is the best option with a modern day family car. It might be worth mentioning this in the description. The location is great and there's plenty of room in the cottage. With a bit of extra care in sorting the cleaning it could be a really lovely stay.

Mr Johns

High quality cottage with modern interior fixtures and fittings. Excellent location within yards of lots of great places to eat, and equally close to the sandy beach for dipping in the waves.

Mrs Anai

Excellent family holiday accommodation. Good location, well equipped kitchen, generous space for all the family to relax including our dog.

Mrs Rogers

It was the perfect place to spend Christmas and to relax - the cottage was lovely: characterful, yet with a wonderful modern kitchen, and so warm and cosy. The location was perfect, just what we wanted, with views over Lyme Bay and out to sea. It was so enjoyable to be able to stroll down to the Cobb, to the beautiful beaches and the gardens and along to the vibrant town within minutes. And the "welcome box" of essentials and delicious things was much appreciated. Thank you - we loved it all.

Mrs Percival

We had a very happy multi generational holiday with our family. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortable and is in a great location.

Mrs Wallis

Highly recommended, very comfortable and clean.

Mrs Collins

Parking was very handy, cottage was in a great location, peaceful and wonderful views, short walk to all the facilities of Lyme Regis and lots of walks on the doorstep. Great to be able to bring our dog.

Mrs Samji

This was our second visit to Cobb Cottage as a family group - 4 adults and 4 children, we all absolutely love it, the children in particular ask us to book again there is always something for them to do. Very impressed with TV and associated games. The garden is lovely to sit out in and the sea view is excellent. It is also very quite and tranquil, given how close to the beach it is. Children ages, 8, 7, 5, 3 entertained themselves in the garden using various toys and books provided.

Mr Egerton

Apart from cutting my foot on an exposed floor tile edge - due to the adjacent tile missing and one of the bedrooms smelling strongly of vomit after the door and window were closed on a warm day - the parking situation pretty much ruined the holiday. This is a property which accommodates eight people - eight people might usually arrive in two cars - the car park has one space for a car as per your details and there are a couple of relatively nearby car parks for the second car but only if you can find a space when returning from a trip out to see nearby sights. First day an hour and twenty minutes to get a space, second time and subsequently the last time we all eight went out to sightsee - an hour and a half to get a parking space! Needless to say we didn’t try again, so we didn’t visit Portland Bill Lighthouse, durdledoor, Dorchester, Weymouth or West Bay as we’d planned because we were fed up of the hassle of trying to park the second car!! If I’d have had some forward notice of this parking problem I’d have booked somewhere else or organised an eight seat vehicle and squeezed it into the space that was allocated. Overall I’m incredibly cross as this problem alone ruined what promised to be a nice holiday - with this in mind I think it’s only fair and reasonable that I get a significant part of the £2500 or so I paid you back as some sort of compensation. Incidentally, this is the first complaint I have ever made about anything in my life - I’m not one these serial moaners and would have taken the cut foot and sicky bedroom issues on the chin as it were - but the lack of adequate parking genuinely dictated the holiday. Fortunately the weather was nice!

Mrs Gerrard

Second visit to this fabulous cottage

Mrs Hall

We had a wonderful holiday at Cobb Cottage. It ticked all the boxes for us. We were a family group with three generations including a two year old and small babies. The facilities and the proximity to the beach made it ideal for all needs. The Cottage was very well equipped. Lyme Regis is a wonderful holiday destination and the weather was superb. We loved it. Thank you.

Mrs Callen-Organ

A stunning house with a fabulous location. A lovely welcome hamper and a very well stocked kitchen in all areas.

Mrs Collins

We had a lovely week in Cobb Cottage It is a delightful Cottage in a wonderful location extremely well equipped and furnished and we would recommend it and Classic Cottages without hesitation

Mr Hampson

We were a family group from age 1 to 93 and we all loved the house. It is in a perfect location, near the bottom of the hill leading up from the Cobb. There were plenty places to 'hang out' in the house. Our favourite was the sun lounge at the front. The welcome pack was very much appreciated, with tea, coffee, chocolate, and with herbs and oils in the pantry it was very homely. Looking forward to our next stay there1

Mr Dockings

Fantastic location, ideally situated for a stroll along the Cobb. Great kitchen, really well stocked. Would definitely rent again.

Mr Cheney

Ticked all the boxes and more............

Mrs Ralph

great location - lovely accommodation - a really relaxing break

Mrs Pitt

Perfect location for the whole family. The youngest generation loved crabbing in the harbour and playing on the beach, the oldest generation loved sitting with a drink on the deck and ambling down to the front for a walk along the esplanade and the rest of us loved the ease of having everything to hand, both in the cottage and in the resort.

Mrs Trueman

Excellent well equipped cottage with beautiful views from terrace. Excellent access to Lyme Regis sandy beach and sea front activities.

Mrs Clarke

Fabulous location. Very well equipped. Lovely clean and cosy cottage. Will definately be back.

Mr Kyriazis

You should be able to rent Saturday to Saturday, more comfortable outside furniture would be good but otherwise it's an excellent cottage
