Beehive Cottage is a charming and cosy cottage, on a quiet lane opposite St Mary's church in the village of Puddletown. Surrounded by farmland, the pretty village is nestled in the heart of Thomas Hardy country and well placed to explore the rest of Dorset. The county town of Dorchester is just six miles away and the spectacular World Heritage Jurassic Coast is within a 30 minute drive.

This gorgeous thatched cottage dates back over 200 years and used to be home to the district nurse. As soon as you step through the door you will be met with a wealth of original features, including traditional cottage stairs, low lintels/beams and quirky sloping floors; all enhancing the cottage's charm and appeal. The fabulous ornamental Inglenook fireplace in the sitting-room is such a special feature. Tucked away behind a wooden door, the stairs lead to the main bedroom, with a king-size double bed and second bedroom, with a 'zip and link' which can be turned into either a king-size double bed or twin beds. The sheltered courtyard garden is a tranquil sun-trap, fully enclosed to keep children and dogs safe.

An excellent pub is a short walk in one direction and a lazy stroll in the opposite direction takes you to the village shop, for a newspaper and various holiday treats. Babes in arms under six months old and children over four years are welcome (as long as the party does not exceed the maximum accommodated of four). A travel cot is available upon request.

We loved this cozy warm thatched cottage in village location.

Mrs Whittaker

This is one of the best cottages we have stayed at. It was unseasonably chilly but on arrival the cottage was warm and cosy. There are loads of double electric sockets everywhere. Very convenient when there are phones, watches, trackers and toothbrushes to charge. It is dog friendly and there are several off lead walks within a short walking distance of the house. The position is in a quiet village street, parking by the front door and a lovely church opposite. Restaurant and pub a 5 minute walk away, also a well stocked Spar in the High Street. A very pretty village within short distance of many attractions. The stairs are steep and twisty but there are rails all the way up on both sides, so felt perfectly safe. Recommended highly

Mrs Pankhurst

We had a lovely time at Beehive Cottage. This unique, historic little house is a delightful place to stay. We did lock ourselves out one day - but our host was along with the key very shortly. Thank you so much! We would be happy to return some time.

Ms Nunn

Beehive Cottage is quaint, comfortable and cosy accommodation in a very pleasant location opposite the church in a delightful village. The back garden is an enclosed private sunny spot. Parking is excellent- right outside the front door, which is surrounded by a wonderful array of flowers and roses. Puddletown is an ideal location for touring the area, with pleasant local walks round the village. I would certainly return for another holiday.

Mrs House

Quirky, no-frills cottage in a lovely location

Mr Evans

Fantastic old cottage in a great location. It seemed to be less than 30 minutes from everywhere we wanted to go - Weymouth, Abbotsbury, Corfe Castle, Thomas Hardy's Houses to name a few, But it was also in a great little town that had everything one needed - the Blue Vinny is an excellent pub 5 minutes walk away and very dog-friendly. There were good dog walks as well. Puddletown even featured in Alan Titchmarsh's documentary series on Dorset whilst we were there! The cottage is well-equipped with all one could need, and it was lovely to come back after a hard day's sight-seeing and sit in the small enclosed garden with a beer. Inside was more spacious than we expected, and had all one could need, with comfortable beds and great character. Outside was really pretty with beautiful flowers front and back. We were really sorry to have to go home, and would love to return sometime soon.

Mr Lewton

A lovely picturesque cottage in the charming Puddletown. Well equipped and comfortable. Couldn't fault it . Plenty to see and do in beautiful Dorset. We had a great holiday and will definitely come back again.

MRS SHIELDS

Beehive Cottage was exactly as depicted, very cosy and comfortable and so many interesting places to visit within 15-30 minutes. Lovely quiet location in the village square opposite the church, so perfect for either a quiet time or a visit going out and about. Plenty of places to eat out, and Dorchester just up the road.

Mr Crooks

Our second visit . Cosy accommodation . Made good use of courtyard during good weather . Very pleasant for two. May be considered a little cramped for four people.

Mr Marks

A fabulous week at Beehive cottage, full of character but very cosy, wonderfully peaceful location but with a wide variety of places to visit, all within a short distance.

Miss Batten

Really lovely characterful cottage, very well equipped, and lovely location in the middle of a very friendly village. Great locations opposite the church so a lovely outlook too! We spoke to many people, including passing dog walkers and everyone was very chatty and friendly, and it made Beehive Cottage seem like home from home. We found loads to do on the doorstep from Thorncombe Woods and Hardy’s Cottage, to a visit to Ringstead Bay, and Minterne Gardens. For food we visited both the local Chippy, Callaway’s at Fordington Green and the Thimble Inn at Piddlehinton. Both were excellent! Really recommend both the cottage AND the area!

Mrs Durrant

The cottage is beautiful, so quirky and homely. Well equipped kitchen. Location is perfect.

Miss Harvey

Lovely week in Beehive Cottage! Great location - only 20-30 mins from some of the best beaches. Studland beaches being a must!! Courtyard is perfect for sitting in the morning sun and evening! So peaceful. Very quiet location, lovely village. The fire in the living room makes it so cosy!

Ms Hopkins

Thoroughly recommend. The cottage was in an idyllic location, quiet, very clean, lovely comfortable bed. A treat to stay in such an old property. Very well located especially for drivers of electric vehicles. A charge point was available only 5 miles away in Dorchester and from there all the highlights of Dorset were easily available within 30 miles.

Mrs Lill

If you want a cosy, quiet get away, this is the cottage for you! It is quaint and pretty, in a beautiful little Dorset village, but Dorchester and Weymouth are near by. 5 stars!

Mr Hill

Excellent location, good value for money and the cottage has everything you need.

Ms Strudwick

Mr Crooks

A very pleasant compact cottage.Perfect for two. spotless .very comfortable beds.We would be happy to stay again.

Mr Robinson

A beautiful cottage in such a quiet location opposite the church with roadside parking. Lots to see and do locally with the coast very close.

Dr Stone

We had a lovely week at Beehive Cottage. Location-wise it really is the perfect base for a large number of very varied days out (The Tank Museum, Corfe Castle, Chesil Beach, Kingston Lacy, Maiden Castle, Hardy's birthplace, Dorchester, Wareham....). The cottage itself is a super cosy place to come back to, and the secluded courtyard provided a lovely space in which to eat out. Good dog-walking routes straight from the front door as well. Highly recommended.

Mr Mason

Excellent base to explore Dorset from.. Good pubs nearby. Clean and well furnished cottage. If elderly beware of the stairs.

Mrs Wright

Lovely, comfortable cottage in a good location. Back garden is a real suntrap. Easy to visit other areas. If you are over 5' mind your head.

Mr Smith

Beautifully clean on arrival, nice little touches of milk and bikkies - and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Mr Chapman

We booked the cottage for its location having known the village for over 40 years. We had a personal reason for being there. The enclosed garden is a sun trap and I wished there had been a garden umbrella for some shade. Take care of doorways if you are over 5ft tall. And take care as some floors slope. It is an old cottage after all.

Mrs Hawes

Lovely location, lovely little village. Spa shop just 5 mins away as too a lovely pub the Blue Vinnie . Very central to all the beaches and stuff you would like to visit. Very easy to find too. Very pleased with Beehive Cottage. M Hawes London

Miss Griffiths

Perfect for short breaks because so many places within easy reach. Very relaxing and lovely pub within walking distance. The cottage has a lovely atmosphere and great to look out of the bedroom windows and see the thatch above.

Mrs Brackpool

Our week at Beehive cottage was lovely. The cottages was full of charm and very clean and comfortable. Lovely little touches throughout the cottage which made it feel welcoming. Good location to explore a lot of Dorset. Just wish we'd had longer!

Ms Craig

Beautiful cottage that offered every comfort set in a delightful village. Interesting places to visit and fabulous walks taking in the beautiful scenery.

Fabulous cottage in a great location for nearby sites would thoroughly recommend

Mr Quy

Have just recommended it to a friend.

Miss Callaway

This chocolate box cottage was both beautiful to look at and to stay in. Great quiet location in a lovely little village, good local shop and pub. Great place to be based to explore Dorset.

Mrs Coath

This is a sweet little cottage with lots of character, yet still manages to provide everything people need in a small space. Lovely quiet situation opposite the church and the little patio garden at the back was an extra bonus. We enjoyed exploring the local area, where there is a lot to see, and we found everyone we met very friendly.

Miss Van Der Meijden

Very Nice and cosy cottage with a large kitchen and Nice bathroom. Very good to exploire the countryside!

Mrs Jackson

A beautiful little cottage, with great character, well situated for walking holidays. We loved it. The view from the cottage is Puddletown church, looks lovely, and it was lovely to hear the church bells ringing too. ??

Wonderful cottage in a lovely peaceful location

Mrs Pearce

Lovely cottage, in an fantastic, quiet location with easy access of main routes to coast. Very comfortable and cosy and superbly equipped with everything you’ll need. A small local shop and a good pub (dogs were permitted in a part of the bar) were a five minute walk away. It was perfect for our needs and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, thank you.

Mr King

This was a lovely cottage in a great location which we would definitely go back to. The owners where very attentive ensuring we got in ok and that everything was fine. The cottage was also lovely and cool on a very hot week!

Ms Maitland

A delightful cottage with character. It was comfortable and quiet, and perfectly located for exploring much of Dorset. The church opposite scores highly in Simon Jenkin's book of best English churches - an added bonus.
