This beautiful barn conversion at the heart of a working farm is just inland from Dorset's spectacular Jurassic Coast and its beaches. The rural setting will please all the family – lovely countryside walks, a tennis court for the energetic, the comings and goings of tractors and livestock, for younger children to watch from the cottage.

Sturthill Stable is extremely spacious, it even has a separate playroom with TV, DVD player and a small multi-games table. The three bedrooms (one en suite) look over the farm buildings to the countryside beyond.

Nearby is the bustling town of Bridport, which has some great cafes and a street market on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Hive Beach Cafe at Burton Bradstock, overlooking the beach, serves locally caught seafood and delicious cakes. A short drive will take you to Lyme Regis, with its iconic Cobb and Monmouth beach, where you can hunt for fossils, enjoy the cafes and restaurants or just relax on the beach with an ice cream.

Sturthill Stable is a great base for exploring this beautiful part of Dorset; the South West Coast Path and the Jurassic Coast begin at Old Harry Rocks on the Isle of Purbeck, only an hour's drive from your holiday home.

Visit Corfe Castle en route, the sandy beaches at Studland or the stunning Etches collection of fossils at Kimmeridge.

Customer reviews

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Mrs Thiebaut

We very much enjoyerld our stay at Sturthill stable. Jo was most welcoming and the house was comfortable and warm. The surrounding counyryside is beautiful, good for walking and swimming at lovely beaches like Eype. We loved Bridport, especially the market on Saturday. A day at Symondsbury was a highlight. Beautiful weather in September was a bonus.

Mr Allen

Superb for anyone who enjoys the countryside

Mr Dudley

A good location close to the A35, but with no traffic noise, giving easy access to east and West locations. A very spacious cottage, with 2 tvs, and fully furnished and equipped.

Miss Pashley

A lovely house so well equipped, Especially for children. Great location we will definitely book to come again.

Mr Gao

large kitchen, living room, 3 bathrooms, fast internet - great for family holiday stay. the playroom and tennis court are great, really beyond expectation.

Mrs West

Owners were very approachable and helpful. A lovely restful spot to recharge. Watching and listening to the cows/farming was good fun!

Mr Dillon

Great for a family holiday. Kids loved the games room. Excellent cottage with absolutely every thing we needed.close to Bridport and the fossil coast. Thoroughly recommended.

Mrs Threadingham

Lovely property. Very clean and welcoming. It may be rather warm if the weather was hot. Also there are lots of flies!

Mr Freezer

Probably the best equiped cottage we have ever stayed in. Very clean and spacious and excellent power showers. Located in a very rural place with only the now and then noise from the farm. Not really feasible to sit outside due to the farmyard smell.

Mr. patrick

I would recommend this site to all families and groups.

Mr Barber

An intersting spacious barn conversion which although is secluded, it is still relatively close to town (Bridport). Intersting to see the working farm in action next door and with plent of garden area and useful tennis courts. A very pleasant part of the contry.

Mr McDonald

A very well-equipped cottage. Everything you might need . Comfortable and spacious especially downstairs.

Dr Herman

A well situated and equipped cottage in a peaceful setting yet with easy access to loads of great beaches and activities. It was well set up for a toddler to roam and seeing the cows every day was a highlight!

Mrs Northern

The house is generally well presented, well equipped and comfortable. Unfortunately, we feel it is spoilt by the ‘country smells’, numerous flies and lack of a usable internet connection.

Mrs Addy

Large comfortable accommodation for families but as a couple, we enjoyed the peace and quiet of a good base from which to explore Dorset.

Mrs Player

Sturthill Stable is a lovely property, it had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Well equiped, games room was an added bonus along with the tennis court. The owners left a lovely welcome message along with a tea, coffee, biscuit and milk pack.

Mrs Hickes

Sturthill Stable is a wonderful place to stay particularly for families with young children who will enjoy staying on a working diary farm and being able to watch the cows, milk lorry and farm vehicles moving around. It is in a beautiful situation close to various beaches but in the countryside. It very clean and well equipped - everything was provided and the host and husband were close at hand if we had any queries. We , all 3 generations of us, had a memorable holiday and highly recommend Sturthill Stable.

mr lobban

Great location, rural feel of being on a farm yet easy to access surrounding areas, towns, villages and beaches. Hive beach is a lovely beach. Accommodation is spacious, the separate games room for kids is good, tennis court , large kitchen table. Helpful owner.

Mr Thomas

Beautiful, well located cottage near all of the facilities of east Dorset. The fully enclosed tennis court was an added benefit

Mrs Hagen

An exceptionally well equipped property, with the added bonus of a tennis court. We would definitely stay here again.

Mrs Keates

Four adults, one baby and an old dog. We were all very very happy with the cottage and thought it had loads of household stuff provided to make life very easy to cope with a family on holiday. Lots of room to spread out inside and out. A quiet and peaceful location on a working farm which only added to the experience. Do as little or as much as you want as access to beaches and other areas of interest was easy. Thank you.

Mrs Kimbell

Loved this cottage - so close to Hive Beach and West Bay with their fantastic sunsets.

Mrs Angell

Beautiful, well equipped and comfortable cottage

Mrs Faux

We chose this cottage because of the rural location and the separate games room for the children but unfortunately came away a little disappointed. The cottage itself is beautiful - very spacious with extremely comfortable beds and very well equipped. I was never found wanting for anything. We were hoping to have more of a countryside view but there is no view at all, only of the farm buildings. To get a view you have to go up to the top of the tennis court which wasn’t really practical. Visitors also have to note that it is on a farm site so you will be swatting flies all day long. Even with the windows shut they still manage to get in! The owners provide a fly swatter in every room and fly spray etc. The tennis court is a nice extra - you need to take flat tennis shoes and your own rackets. The grass area next to it is big but is away from the cottage so not suitable to release young children there while you sit inside. We had ages 5 and 9 with us. They enjoyed the games room and watched a couple of films on their own TV. It’s in a good location for exploring the area - about a mile from a main road but not audible. Absolutely no phone signal and WiFi package is limited so download films etc that you want to watch before you go. If you’re prone to hot flushes, this isn’t the property for you because they have to leave a radiator on maximum all day (something to do with the plumbing) and it got very hot some evenings. If you want an active holiday going out most of the day this is a lovely cottage and well equipped but if you want to relax a bit more onsite and enjoy a garden and some lovely views, I wouldn’t say this is the right property for that.

Mrs Compton

A lovely, very well equipped and cosy but spacious cottage in which to spend a week although we could quite happily have stayed for longer. It is within easy reach of wonderful walks for us to take our dog to especially Burton Bradstock where we could take hi for a run on the beach followed by a tasty lunch at the Hive Cafe. The countryside around the cottage is beautiful with some amazing views and there are lots of things to do close to it. Although it is in a working farm, we didn't find it intrusive at all.

Mr Rakels

We enjoyed our stay. The cottage was excellent.

Mrs Griffiths

Overall excellent......extremely child friendly.

Mrs Cunniffe

Another lovely cottage from classic cottages. A beautiful location and well equipped with all that you would expect to have in your own home. The whole family, including our dog, felt relaxed, happy and enjoyed all the cottage, the farm and exploring the surrounding area. The playroom was an added bonus and our children enjoyed the toys and games table lots.

Mr Gillson

Beautiful location in a working dairy farm. Good access to local amenities. Use of land line phone. Limited WiFi and total lack of mobile phone signals.

Mrs Lyon

Warm welcome and lovely, well equipped accommodation. Perfect for a relaxing stay on a working farm.

Mrs Ewens

Just a fabulous family holiday home, all needs catered for.

Mr Tarr

Lovely property, very high standard of internal finishes ... and very comfy beds!

Miss Liddington

Peacefully situated opposite a working farm in the country, yet only a few miles from Bridport which has plenty of shops. Easy to visit many places along the Jurassic Coast. Stunning barn conversion and more than happy to keep retuning to. Made to feel very welcome by Jo and her husband.

Mrs Charman

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very spacious and well equipped. Would recommend and hope to go back ourselves next year.

Mrs Bennett

We have just enjoyed our third trip to Sturtill Stable as we really love the area. The stable is ideally located for all the beautiful beaches and we have enjoyed visiting the lively town of Bridport and Dorchester is really nice, especially if the weather isn't so good (plenty of museums for the children). Sturtill Stable is always very clean and comfortable with all you need for a perfect family holiday. We particularly like staying in the autumn and enjoy being able to walk around the farm fields. Have seen lots of wildlife around the farm including deer. Jo and family are always really helpful and we hope to return again soon.

Ms Brown

An extremely comfortable and beautiful place to spend a family holiday.

Mrs Dodge

The best holiday cottage we have stayed in, Sturthill Stable is well appointed, warm and welcoming. We have thoroughly enjoyed our two visits there.

Mrs Dodge

A warm and friendly welcome from the owners made us feel at home in this spacious, comfortable, beautifully finished barn conversion. Peaceful location, but within easy reach of local amenities, coast and countryside.

Mrs Johnson

Perfect for families with little ones of any age. Just a beautiful spot and wonderfully well appointed cottage. The best holiday I have had in years!

Mrs Gregson

Lovely setting. Very welcoming hostess and family.Spacious and attractive. Lovely kitchen. Attractive and restful lounge.

Mrs East

A great cottage in a great location.

Mr Whittaker

Wonderfully appointed property and fantastic location - a great place for a break in Dorset!

Mrs Worman

I give it 5 stars.

Mrs Smiles

This was the best property we have stayed in. It is a beautifully converted old stable and everything you could possibly need was provided and to a very high standard. We loved the peace and quiet of the property - no disturbance by staying on a working farm. We really appreciated the lemon drizzle cake and tea making provisions waiting for us together with the beautiful vase of cottage garden flowers -just like in the picture!

Ms Nelson

An extremely high quality barn conversion that's been well thought out to maximise space. A great location for exploring the Jurassic Coast and then retreating to rural peace and quiet. Lovely helpful though not intrusive owners.

Mrs Bennett

Beautiful spacious stable conversion. Excellent for children as there is lots of room to play inside and out. Also many thoughtful touches for younger gusts such as night light near the stairs, children's cutlery, lots of games etc. We have stayed in several Classic properties and this is one of the best equipped. We loved the area and stunning coastline. Bridport is a lively town with a great atmosphere. Definitely planning to return to Dorset. Sturthill Stable is very well located for beaches and exploring generally. The owners were very hospitable and able to offer advice on places to visit.
