Reviews

This beautiful stone farmhouse has something very special indeed - it comes with a 450 acre nature reserve and a unique relationship with Dorset Wildlife Trust, offering comfortable, relaxing and flexible accommodation for parties attending courses, meetings or events at the Kingcombe Centre.

Quite apart from being a wonderfully spacious family-friendly property, there is a huge sitting-room with brand new, comfy blue sofas and a dining-room/conservatory where you can dine overlooking the reserve. There are four bedrooms upstairs, all with en suite amenities and following renovation, the ground floor facilitates those with disability/mobility difficulties by offering a fifth bedroom that is located across the hall from a large accessible wet-room.

A gate from the large garden leads into the reserve where you can wander freely (with respect for any livestock), in this beautiful conservation area of wildflower meadows, ancient hedgerows, traditionally grazed pasture, woodland and meandering river.

Good or bad, we publish all the reviews left by the guests who have stayed at this property.

Professor English

Lovely warm and comfortable cottage with plenty of space for everyone. We appreciated the en-suite bedrooms and the peaceful surroundings. So lovely too to have the Kingcombe centre just down the road!

Mrs Benyon-Tinker

A beautiful cottage and well appointed. Minor irritations but nothing to make me not want to go again.

Mrs Molyneux

Our fourth time at this cottage and it was as wonderful as ever. The new sofas are very comfortable. Having five bedrooms, all en-suite, makes it an excellent choice for our group of friends. The situation, overlooking the wildlife reserve, is beautiful and very peaceful.

Mrs Pinnegar

Had a great stay here over Easter holidays. Perfect location, clean, comfortable and well equipped. Good size for 4 adults and 5 kids. Loved the fact each bedroom had an en-suite. Would definitely recommend.

mrs Tomalin

An ideal spot for those who enjoy the beautiful countryside in Dorset and within reach of the coast, this comfortable, well equipped cottage is also great for visitors with small children with plenty of space, comfortable sofas etc.

Mrs Morrison

An idyllic cottage in wonderful countryside. Everything you need for a family break away from it all and to celebrate big birthdays! Sleeps a large family very comfortably. Lots of attractions within an hour of the property, and just 30 minutes away from Dorchester which is a pretty town centre with lots of lovely shops, museums, and eating establishments. We would certainly return to this peaceful setting and beautiful house.

Mrs West

We loved staying in Beech Cottage and found it very comfortable and well equipped. It was great to have the Dorset Wildlife Trust visitor centre and cafe nearby and the children loved exploring the wildlife garden and playing in the mud kitchen. We also booked up a Nature Tots activity session which was fun and we loved all the local walks. It’s a beautiful area and we hope to come back another time.

Mrs Lawrence

A lovely cottage set in a stunning location in the Dorset countryside. We had a large family to accommodate including a dog and there was plenty of room for all. Importantly, everyone had their own bathroom! Perfect for dog walkers and families, with beautiful local nature reserve. Within easy reach of Dorchester and Bridport and plenty of great local pubs. Would thoroughly recommend.

Miss Vincent

Lovely house in a stunning location - a perfect get-away and chance to unwind. Having excellent accessibility facilities provided mum with easy movement throughout the ground floor including the outside eating area and outside. The dogs loved the enclosed garden and surrounding walks. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms, each with an en suite, were very comfortable. A hidden gem for nature lovers. Would totally recommend and will definitely return.

Dr Silverman

Wonderful peaceful location surrounded by so much wildlife & flowers - very special indeed!

Mrs Richardson

We loved the location and tranquility of Beech Cottage deep in the Dorset countryside, the silence broken only by an amazing variety of birdsong. The property had everything we needed for our comfort without any unnecessary frills and we would certainly consider returning.

Mr Scurrell

The house is a get away from it all sort of place, very little traffic and really quite, lots of bird life and different owls were heard

Mr Applegate

Lovely cottage in a very peaceful location. Downstairs bedroom and bathroom great for those with mobility issues

Miss Nixon

Lovely homely cottage & location if you want peace & calm, & love countryside surrounded by rolling hills with ots of byways & bridleways around so great for walking & walking dogs from the doorstep. Not suitable if you don't like driving on single track roads or like to be within near vicinity of amenities

Mr Siviter

Beech Cottage is in a lovely location, quiet and peaceful, overlooking a nature reserve and with lovely walks straight from the door. We could only hear birds singing, the breeze in the trees and no traffic noise at all! Downstairs room and disabled access bathroom were great, and ideal for wheelchair users as was the general access around the inside of the property. We had a few very minor issues during our stay, which didn't detract at all from our enjoyment of our holiday, and we were particularly impressed that Classic Cottages acted upon comments raised in our post-holiday survey form and raised these with the owners. We wouldn't hesitate to return.

Mrs Biss

Lovely place, rain or shine. Been coming for many years. There are not many properties with every room with an en suite!

Mrs De Marco

Lovely location, garden is great with direct access to the reserve and many, many walks. The house itself is neat and tidy, but this is definitely not a luxury cottage. Very utilitarian, lots of hard flooring, hard lighting and fire doors everywhere, which are impossible to close quietly. Kitchen very well equipped, conservatory is lovely and we spent a lot of time in there. Bedrooms are ok, good sizes. Beds not comfy and def take your own pillows. Bathrooms a bit sad, although lots of hot water and nice towels. Being on the nature reserve, we’d have hoped to sit and look at all the wildlife and birds, but you can’t see any of it from the conservatory or kitchen as there is a huge wall of brambles! Overall, we loved our stay, although not sure any of us slept particularly well. I can see that the house is functional for big groups and very easy to clean and put back together and as long as you’re not expecting the height of luxury, it’s great for what it is. It seems to be a very hot house though, we thought the heating was on at one point (don’t think it was), but we were all boiling all the time. We’d def go back for the area because the location is great, but the house is a very different feel to the other classic cottages we’ve all stayed in before.

Miss Warhurst

A wonderful cottage, ideal for large groups - clean, comfy and with well-stocked kitchen equipment. Beautiful surroundings and the staff at the visitor centre were very friendly and knowledgeable. Fabulous location for holidays. We would highly reccommend.

Mrs Bevan

Amazing cottage to stay at. The cottage itself is very comfy and well equipped, great views and a lovely garden. The location is to die for, with footpaths through the Wildlife trusts land on your doorstep. We would wait til the cows had moved to another field and walk the dogs down to the stream. The cafe at the Wildlife trusts Visitor centre is lovely to eat at, my favourite was the homity pie. We had a wonderfully relaxing time.

Mr Carter

The countryside location is brilliant and we visited the nature reserve and explored the footpaths in the surrounding area.

Ms Tate

Loved the easy access onto the Nature Reserve straight from the property

Mrs Brindle

A comfortable cottage in a stunning location. Perfect for groups.

Mrs Emmett

Beech cottage is ideal if you are a large family group or group of friends looking for a spacious, comfortable cottage in rural Dorset. Every room is en suite or has a private bathroom so no queuing for a bathroom. The house is well equipped and has everything you need to self cater for a week. We had a wonderful week of walking with friends and appreciated the comfortable layout of the house. We particularly enjoyed socialising over meals round the large table in the airy and light conservatory. We were able to do a varied week of walking which included coastal walks, inland walks in rural Dorset and a couple of walks from the door.

Mr Ellis

A pleasant cottage in a very quiet - in fact, remote - location about half an hour from Bridport. Lovely roomy lounge, en suites to all bedrooms a boon, excellent parking, and an ideal location for nature lovers.

Dr White

We have stayed at many self catering cottages in the past, some marketed by Classic Cottages, and generally we have had pleasant experiences , no so with Beech Cottage, this cottage was very disappointing. We would not recommend it to anyone unless considerable improvements are made.

Miss McCarten

Beech cottage is a fantastic place to stay for family or friends if you want a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle. The cottage is beautiful and so well equipped, the conservatory and outside decking area are wonderful for dining. The bedrooms are all spacious and comfy and the living area is big but cozy and welcoming. The cottage is set within a fantastic nature reserve and isn’t immediately near and large supermarkets, however there are several nearby smaller stores to get everything you could need. We had the most amazing holiday here. Thank you

Mr Russell

This spacious and well appointed cottage is a gem. This is our second visit and can recommend it.

Mrs Adams

Beech Cottage is a lovely holiday home which we highly recommend.

Mrs Galley

This is a comfortable, well equipped, rather than a luxurious cottage. It was very clean on arrival and the instructions are good. Having all bedrooms en suite or with a private bathroom was very good. Keeping windows and curtains closed during the day helped keep the place cool during a very hot period. The internet connection is fine which is important as there is virtually no phone signal. Hive Beach at Burton Bradstock with free parking to NT members was appreciated. Good shopping in Bridport and good meals and atmosphere at the SpyWay Inn and at the Three Horseshoes at Powerstock. the staff at the Wildlife Trust Centre could not have been more helpful.

Ms Jago

Kingcombe Meadows are rare and wonderful - a tiny remnant of an ancient landscape made by man in cooperation with nature. To stay amongst it, in the comfort and seclusion of Beech Cottage, is a great privilege.

Mrs Brindle

A comfortable cottage in a stunning location. Perfect for groups who are seeking peace and quiet with the added bonus of beautiful walks yards from the front door.

Mrs Johns

My friends and I love renting this cottage for a week away from it all. We are a group of 7 and use it for a sewing/crafting week away. With 5 bedroom, all with their own bathrooms, we find it spacious and comfortable for us all. The cottage heating is excellent. The kitchen is well kitted out and it has a dish washer and washing machine. The location is rural and very quiet. There is good walking locally. Bridport and Dorchester are approx 30 mins drive time away.

Mrs Foster

We have stayed at Beech Cottage for several years now. It is a tranquil house in a tranquil setting. Well cared for and any problems are soon sorted. It is ideal for someone in a wheel chair. It has a big downstairs room and a downstairs wet room. Access to the rest of the property, apart from the upstairs is easy in a wheelchair. We would highly recommend this property.

Mr Auton

Large property in a lovely Village setting - would work for a large group of friends. The furnishing are a little dates, have clean and comfortable.

Mr Pooler

Excellent location for exploring the immediate area, especially for those interested in nature or wanting to walks their dogs. Also good location for exploring Dorset, Bridport is a nice town and there are many places to visit. Large cottage with lots of space and bathrooms, very private and ample parking. The cottage did not feel as homely as others we have stayed at, it did feel ideal for school trips with all the bathrooms but this is a minor comment really.

Mrs Rennie

A lovely spacious house in generous grounds with lots of space for a large group/family. In a beautiful setting with easy access to the nature reserve and short walking distance to the Kingcombe visitor centre where you are welcomed by friendly, helpful staff and home baked treats. We had an enjoyable, comfortable and relaxing holiday and will definitely return again.

Miss Stanley

Pretty cottage more practical than luxurious but the field behind & walk to stream lovely. Beware the bats roosting in roof as they are keen to get in open windows & unfortunately the garden is not secure to let your dog's roam. It was sunny weather when we stopped so cottage was very very warm.

Mrs Slater

Beech cottage is a lovely place to stay, very comfortable, spacious and well equipped. The surrounding area is beautiful and great for walks and wildlife. There are narrow lanes to get to and from the property so be prepared for that. Would recommend.

Miss Barnard

Beautiful cottage in a stunning location. We'll euiped with everything needed for a muti-generational group!

Ms Robinson

We have just had a fantastic few days at Beech Cottage with our family. The location of this cottage is outstanding with so many walks from the door and wildlife galore. The cottage is comfortable and spacious with everything you need. Kingcombe Visitor Centre was an added bonus with the home baked cakes in the tea rooms. We will definately be back.

Mrs Puri

Lovely cottage in a great location. Very comfortable and well equipped.

Mrs Johns

Peaceful location in stunning countryside. Plenty of space in cottage and surrounding garden.

Mrs Powell

We enjoyed some clear nights and we're able to enjoy the stars, and lucky enough to catch a meteorite shower, visitors might also enjoy there was no light pollution, and we highly recommend the cafe at the visitor centre

Mrs Sims

We had a lovely stay here. Would definitely consider staying again. Lovely spacious house, great for a bigger party (when rules allow). Dogs were happy in garden too, and a great base to explore Dorset from.

Mrs Blackburn

Beautiful cottage and decor. Wonderful setting

Mrs Brooker

Very good value for money. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and warm. We didn't want to leave!

Mrs Stringer

The cottage met the needs of all our party excellently, especially my disabled father. The downstairs bedroom and wetroom worked really well, and the lounge was spacious enough to move a wheelchair around easily. A beautiful peaceful place!

Mrs Jeffery

A perfect spacious country house to sleep 9 plus travel cots for babies. A peaceful countryside retreat yet within striking distance of the beautiful Jurassic coast.

Mr Vaulters

A beautiful and comfortable cottage, well layed out for a large party

Miss Fitzgerald

Beautifully cottage in a lovely setting! Would highly recommend for groups and family gatherings. The cottage was very well equipped and the cottage was very accessible for my elderly mothers needs. On arrival their was a welcome pack with a beautiful homemade cake and some dog biscuits for my dog. This was a very welcome surprise after a long journey. Thank you very much for a lovely stay

Miss Sutton

Our stay at Beech Cottage was made even more special when a study group from the Kingcombe centre placed a moth trap in the garden. They allowed us to discover the ‘finds’ of the previous night with them and their enthusiasm for moths was infectious! None of us had any idea of the variety of moths to be found. We also enjoyed walking in the meadows in early summer seeing the variety of wild flowers. We think their were bats nesting under the eaves above the conservatory as we saw them fly out in the evening - no doubt catching some of those lovely moths!

Mrs King

What a wonderful place! It was so good to be in real countryside that felt remote, peaceful and beautiful. The bluebells and primroses were out and everything looked gorgeous. So good for three city families to feel a sense of freedom and to be truly next to nature. We loved the cottage as it was perfect for adults and children. It was comfortable, cosy and very easy for three families to be in. And the delicious cake on arrival was an added bonus. The visitors centre down the road is just fabulous and the children enjoyed a great Easter egg hunt there. It was a really great week and we would definitely recommend it.

Mrs Benyon-Tinker

Lovely setting, beautiful well furnished cottage with lots of lovely hot water. What more could you want? Do remember to take all your food with you although we were left a lovely lemon drizzle cake, milk etc. My second visit and will certainly go again next year.

Mrs North

We would be happy to stay here in this comfortable cottage in this wonderful location any time of the year.

Mrs Payne

Excellent facilities for a disabled person. Wet room is amazing . We were 7 ladies staying for a week and thought the cottage was spacious and ably equipped for us all . All rooms en-suite ( apart from wet room across the hall ) plenty of hot water and comfortable seating and dining . Location was a fantastic and local people friendly and helpful . Would highly recommend.

Mrs Wood

Wonderful location; fabulous views from the deck. Spacious and particularly good accessible facilities for wheelchair users.

Mrs Ash

Great locations for peace and quiet, views and walking from the cottage. Would return again .

Mrs Davies

Fabulous location for those wanting the peace and quiet of beautiful Dorset, imagine seeing woodpeckers and hearing owls at night and you have that amount of noise, Spacious garden, lots of car parking space, very dog friendly with walks on your doorstep. Well appointed accommodation, plenty of room for 8 adults and 2 dogs who loved the cosy wood burner !

Mr Goerger

Mrs Hutchins

Anyone seeking refuge from the trials of daily life should spend some nights in this lovely house in such peaceful surroundings.

Mrs Benyon-Tinker

It is a beautiful cottage in a lovely location. The cottage is well equipped and the staff at the centre are extremely helpful

Mrs Gardner

Excellent location. Amazing views and lovely property. We liked how the rooms were all self contained with en-suites - great for a large party. Great set up for when you are cooking as there is an open-plan feel downstairs. Very social space. Was always light and bright and warm inside. Log fire was a real treat. Lots of space, no small rooms.

Mrs Walker

Fantastic cottage. Well equipped, very comfortable and incredibly spacious. Loved the woodburner for our New Year break. Imagine it is a fabulous place when the weather is better. Would definitely like to come back again.

Mr Robinson

We were lucky on our holiday and had wonderful weather, and the scenery was glorious, We received a warm welcome frome Steve and a lovely home baked cake (still warm ) from the wild life cafe nearby. We were there for a Golden Wedding Celebration, and had a lovely Sunday Lunch with extended family at the Spyways Inn Pub, a few miles away. Beech Cottage belongs to the Wild Life Trust, where they teach all sorts of lovely courses at the Main Centrer .The cottage is in a very remote location, down very very narrow lanes. Although we were sent a map, we still got lost several times. Also because of the distance to food shops and pubs we had to remember to get shopping on the way back from excursions, this curtailed our going out in the evenings. However we had lovely walks, around the surrounding countryside and enjoyed spectacular views, as the trees were just turning into wonderful autumn colours. We also visited many beaches near to Bridport Lyme Regis.

Mrs Westwood

Lovely large property in a rural location.

Mrs Cookson

A perfect place to unwind. Lots of footpaths to explore.

Mrs Gregory

Delightful cottage, peaceful, quiet, ideal for bird watchers, walking and relaxation. Would love to go back there again.

Myself , two sons and their children enjoyed a pleasant and relaxing half-term break in a superb location. The Kingcombe centre cafe was great value and the resident chef was so helpful in many ways

Ms Robinson

A great spacious house that suited a group of 9 people. Fantastic lounge and conservatory surrounded by lots of local wildlife. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Mrs Sharp

Lovely place for a big family holiday.

Mrs Robinson

Very relaxing. Loved the peace and quiet. fab to heard owls, woodpeckers and be able to walk for mils without getting into the car. Great pub recommendations in info provided.

Mrs Savory

The location of this lovely cottage is perfect for families, it's truly idyllic. The layout is ideal for those families who have someone who has physical difficulties. We booked the cottage to celebrate our Nanny's 95th birthday, and the cottage was perfect for all 8 of us. Our Nanny has limited mobility, so the level access bathroom, with an emergency call system in the bathroom and downstairs bedroom was ideal. The only reasons we haven't graded it 5 stars is because the hot water storage system wasn't sufficient for us all, despite us not all showering every day, and not being better even when we tried taking showers at different times. The standard of cleanliness and general maintenance was another reason for the lower rating. Light bulbs blown, first aid kit items out of date in 2010, furniture needing repairing/replacing, dirty kitchenware, and finding rubbish from previous rentals was disappointing. However, if these things were rectified, then the cottage would absolutely deserve a full 5 stars.

Mrs Wright

Beech Cottage is a perfect location for those wanting to get away from a hectic lifestyle, and enjoy the attractions nature provides. Wildlife was abundant, and we were thrilled to see badgers close up, right outside the conservatory. The children loved the visitor centre, and enjoyed the half term courses run by Christine and her colleagues. They never once asked for the TV on or to use the Ipad. Success! We will be back.

Mrs Burns

Excellent

Mrs Bryden

We really enjoyed our stay at Beech Cottage and are planning to come back again in the near future.

Mrs Nath

Absolutely idillyic surrounds. A lovely base to explore. not to long a drive to the seaside. Didn't want to leave and will definitely return.

Mrs Malam

We had a wonderful holiday with our family and we would definitely return again

Mrs Mundy

A wonderful break in a delightful cottage. The Kingcombe Centre staff were friendly and accommodating. A delicious last night evening meal was cooked for us all at the cafe and is highly recommended. Lots of beautiful countryside walks too.

Mrs Riches

Comfortable cottage with nature on your doorstep. Children's paradise with river really close and lots of animals around, and wonderful wildflowers all hiding in the depths of Dorset.

Mr Stewart

I rented the cottage for a family gathering as it was my birthday. It proved to be the ideal spot as it catered for all of us from my four year old grandson through my children and up to my wife and I. In the summer I am sure it would be perfect for a family holiday.
