Buzzards Rise
Nestled in the heart of the Tamar Valley countryside in Cornwall, you will discover the stunning Buzzards Rise. This charming barn has been lavished with attention and every detail has been carefully made or chosen, from bespoke lighting to luxurious styling.
This simply gorgeous barn is the perfect excuse for a romantic break for two or an excellent choice for a sole traveller and, of course, no stay at Buzzards Rise would be complete without your faithful four-legged companions! (the owners will accept up to four dogs but guests only pay for the first two dogs in the party). This barn offers the ideal backdrop to escape to the country and take life at a slower pace.
The owners have brought life back to this once unloved derelict barn, creating a luxury hideaway that ensures you instantly relax into your surroundings. Step over the threshold and you will be greeted with a 'wow' moment. The open plan living area floods with light thanks to the triple aspect of the room and the huge wall to ceiling glass wall. The sitting area is the perfect spot to read a book or snuggle down and enjoy a film, while the wood-burner creates the cosiest of feelings. The stylish and contemporary kitchen is ideal for the chef to cook up a storm. Enjoy a glass of wine and a game of cards long into the small hours around the dining-table or devour brunch whilst planning a day of walking locally or exploring a little further afield. Sitting on the Devon/Cornwall border, the adventures are endless!
The crowning jewel of this retreat has to be the simply dreamy bedroom! The bed offers the perfect sanctuary, from crisp linens to a sumptuous mattress, you will just melt into bed! However, when it comes to luxury, nothing speaks louder than a free-standing bath with a picture-perfect view of the lush green surroundings. In addition, there is also an en suite shower-room. This room is absolutely five star and you won't want to leave!
Outside at the back of the barn you will discover three areas. From the perfect al fresco dining spot to the stylish sofa area where a sundowner or two can be enjoyed! As the stars light up the night sky, head to the fire-pit to toast some marshmallows. The outside area wraps around this barn offering bike storage, a boot-room and an electric car charger. You may also occasionally have a few friendly neighbours, as the owners' adorable sheep may come to say hello!
Set in your own private grounds with your own driveway and extensive enclosed lawned gardens, you might from time to time see the helpful but discreet owners to wave to, but they will leave you to enjoy your holiday.
As well as being located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (now known as National Landscapes), the barn is also found in part of the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site. The area was once one of the richest copper mining areas in Europe. It still houses a quarry today which, if you sit outside, you can occasionally hear the distant rumble of. The quarry is also home to some of the buzzards that you may see flying high above the barn.

Buzzard’s Rise somehow manages to feel homely and slightly glamorous. It’s a great base for exploring the area and the owners are on hand to help you do that. We were recommended two great locations for dogs walks which meant I spent my mornings walking along a river or admiring stunning views from the hills. When the weather failed us we curled up in front of the fire and watched the rain come down.
Mrs Smith
Buzzard's Rise is joint first in our rating of all the holiday homes we have booked, over the last 16 years of holidaying in the UK, (multiple times a year, so that makes quite a lot of cottages we have visited!). The attention to detail on what guests need and how to make us feel comfortable was brilliant, even down to useful lead/coat/towel hooks, boot racks and coat dripping space outside! The quality of the fittings, fixtures & equipment was amazing and to have lovely glasses to drink out of and two cafetieres to accommodate decaf & caffeine drinkers was fabulous! The secure and huge garden was totally amazing for our piece of mind and our energetic terrier, Darcy, loved having space to chase her ball. (She even improved on her recall & allowing us to pat her outside, during her holiday, big progress for our Rehomer!) We loved that she could be left outside exploring without worry of her expanding her exploring further than the garden! To walk in and feel immediately at home, is a rare experience in a holiday home, but Buzzard's Rise, certainly felt like home and was immaculately clean, warm and cosy. The provision of ample wood for the fire, cleaning materials, dishwasher tablets etc. and a beautiful Welcome Hamper were the ''icing on the cake'' (or ''cream on the scone'', might be more apt!). Vicki and Jon have done a fabulous job with this property and were so helpful with useful tips of walks, places to visit and cafes in the area. It is certainly our intention to return for another wonderful stay, explore further, complete more walks and hopefully, use the outside seating area and fire pit. (The weather over New Year was a little challenging for sitting outside, even for us!)
Mrs Henshaw
Buzzards Rise exceeded our expectations in every way. The attention to detail was just incredible and the decor is stunning. If I could score this property it would get 20/10. We didn’t take our dogs as we were on a fact finding mission but they’ll definitely come with us next time and there will be a next time. Thanks Vicki and Jon for such a lovely welcome.
Mr Costelloe
Buzzards Rise was exactly as it seems in the pictures, a lovely place to relax and enjoy your surroundings. There are lots of amazing dog walks very close to the property, plus a good pub in walking distance and fine dining a short taxi away.
Mrs Tout
A true gem of a cottage - one of the best we have ever stayed in. The owners have thought of everything. The garden was fully secure for our two dogs, making all the difference to a relaxing stay.
Mrs Miller
Buzzards Rise is the most fabulous property, set in a tranquil location with a fantastic enclosed garden, which was ideal for our dog. The friendly but unobtrusive owners were very welcoming on arrival and were on hand if we needed their help - but we didn't as they had thought of absolutely everything and left very useful information in the welcome folder. The property was presented to a very high standard indeed, both inside and out and was spotlessly clean; we especially loved sitting outside on the patio in the late afternoon sun with a cup of tea listening to the birdsong - it was sublime. There are some great activities in the area, we visited Tamar Trails, browsed the shops and pannier market in Tavistock, explored the grounds at Cotehele and took in the fantastic views at nearby Kit Hill. There's a selection of great pubs nearby - we visited The Springer Spaniel at Treburley - one of the friendliest pubs we've ever visited, with great food and a warm welcome for both us and the dog. If you want to get away from it all in a tranquil location with plenty of things to do in the area then book Buzzards Rise - you won't regret it. In fact, we didn't want to leave!
Mr Phypers
The property is beautifully fitted with everything you need and you are welcomed by a welcome pack. Electric charging point was very handy
Mr Tribe

Mrs Palmer
The perfect retreat ,if that is what you’re looking for whilst being a beautiful, cozy, private place to explore the area. We really relaxed for our entire stay , just enjoying all that Buzzards Rise has to offer.
Mr Bebb
Wonderful stay at Buzzards Rise. Beautiful accommodation, clean, well equipped and lovely views. Perfect for dogs as the garden is all enclosed. This accommodation has everything you need to enjoy a very relaxing break. The outdoor space has been landscaped perfectly with many seating areas for dinning or to just lay back, unwind and enjoy the views. The hosts have supplied lots of information on places to visit, local pubs and costal walks. We took a coastal walk from Polzeath to Lundy Bay and also enjoyed the wonderful views from Kit Hill. Hosts were very friendly and accommodating in allowing us to extend our holiday a few more days. We can’t recommend Buzzards Rise enough and have already booked again for next year.
Mr Shipperd
Fantastic Place to stay Fantastic Hosts One of the best cottages we've stayed in. Would definitely like to re visit
Mrs Street
Accommodation is of a high standard, well equipped and very comfortable. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners who are very nice and friendly.
MR Redman
We had an excellent stay at Buzzards Rise. The friendly and welcoming owners have created a real “home from home” where everything had clearly been thought of through the eyes of the guest. We especially liked the attention to detail in making it dog friendly too, which we have at times struggled with in other properties before. The location is not somewhere we have stayed before, usually going further south west, but the owners had some great local recommendations for walks and pubs and we found it well placed for day trips out to Bude & Boscastle too. There was plenty to keep us busy and occupied. We had a great stay, highly recommended!
Mrs J Giles
Fabulous property. Very comfortable. The enclosed garden was brilliant for our 2 dogs. We knew they were safe to potter about. Perfect location and accommodation. We hope to return soon.
Mr Butler
Buzzards Rise surpassed all our expectations. It really is a tremendous property, wonderfully clean and very well-appointed and, to cap it off, the owners were an absolute delight. Size-wise it's absolutely ideal for a couple, and was complete with all mod-cons. It was perhaps a little further to some of the places we wanted to visit than was ideal, but that's a personal choice. In truth, it was a small price to pay for such a lovely quiet week away. It's highly likely that we will return.
Mrs Hobbs
Highly recommend this beautiful cottage. Well appointed, high quality finishes and everything thought of to ensure a very comfortable stay. Welcome hamper and treats for our dog a lovely touch !
Mrs spittlehouse

Ms Budworth
Stunning, immaculate cottage, decorated beautifully for Christmas. Lovely extra touches left by owners. Kitchen was a dream with every utensil imaginable. Power shower, fab, bed so comfy was a struggle to get out!! Very cosy with underfloor heating and logs for burner, supplied for duration of stay. Garden extremely well enclosed, gave us great peace of mind with our dog. Owners very accommodating, information on walks, offering to bring us flask of hot water during a power cut, and letting us stay later on day of leaving as no one in behind us. Had such a chilled out, cosy time in a very wet and windy New Year, can’t recommend enough, we will be back!!!!!
Mrs Mahon
Lovely barn, home from home, clean bright, and beautiful enclosed garden perfect for dogs. Lovely goodie basket left by the owners. Really enjoyed our stay.
Mrs I Verity
A fabulous property and location on the Devon /Cornwall boarder. So many places to visit and Tamar trails excellent if you love walking. Coastal path at Looe not to far away. We absolutely loved it and will be back.
Mr Greenwood
Buzzards Rise is a hidden gem. It is spaciously appointed and although not huge, it makes the most of every inch both inside and out. Plenty of space for both of us and our golden Labrador to enjoy. The grounds are well tended and completely enclosed so we could all relax and enjoy the surroundings. Very comprehensively equipped for all our culinary efforts. We feel a return visit coming on!
Mrs Sharpe
Lovely hosts were so helpful. The cottage has all we could need, a well equipped kitchen, extremely comfortable bed, nice shower room with the sink and shower head at a good height for someone who is tall. Comfortable lounge, the wood fire was lovely on a very wet evening. As we stayed over Christmas it was appreciated that the cottage was beautifully decorated ready for us. Great outdoor space when the weather permits.
