Beam Ends
The pretty village of Haytor Vale is tucked down a narrow lane below the well-known Dartmoor landmark of Haytor Rocks. Beam Ends is at the end of a terrace of stone cottages, a short stagger down the narrow street from The Rock Inn – a pub enjoying a justified reputation for good food.
The neighbouring owners have turned this formerly neglected cottage into a lovely home, with views from the sheltered, private patio across fields where the neighbour grazes his horses. The dining-room has a glazed roof, giving plenty of light whatever the weather, and the airy sitting-room is just as attractive; a step leads into the galley-style kitchen. Up the steep wooden stairs are the bedrooms and bathroom.

A lovely house, friendly host, big garden that we could use, that leads to a beautiful walk. Excellent location to make walks to the moors, without using the car. Also local shop is near, only 2 miles
Mrs Sibley
Very clean and comfortable cottage well placed for walking on Dartmoor and accessing other wonderful sites close at hand. Friendly and welcoming host on arrival and during our stay. We hope to return sometime soon.
Mrs Wright
What a great cottage. Jill was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The delicious cake was much appreciated! Her garden, generously open to visitors, is wonderful and is the start of a couple of walks - up on to the moor, or through woods to Islington village. Nearby Haytor rocks and the granite railway are amazing. We really enjoyed our stay.
Mrs Downey
The owners, Jill and Dave (Duffy) were very welcoming and friendly when we first arrived and helped us with local information. Lovely area, cottage comfortable and well equipped. Would definitely recommend.
MRS KENNEDY
The cottage is gorgeous. Very cosy and clean, with just about everything needed provided. It also had a lovely private garden with plenty of seating to enjoy the nicer weather. It was a bonus to be able to do some lovely walks direct from the cottage.
Mr Mitchinson
This was just an amazing place to stay, quiet, friendly and set in a fantastic location.
Mrs Foster
Beam Ends is a very comfortable cottage. Well presented with everything you could need. Owners are very friendly, offering advice on places to visit and condolences on the weather ! Easy access for walks on Dartmoor and not too far from coastal towns. Several good pubs nearby, including the Rock Inn a few doors down which is lovely for a special treat. Would highly recommend.
Mrs Gaskell
Beam Ends is an old Dartmoor cottage with an interesting history. Lovely quiet location close to Haytor and surrounding moorland. Homely, comfortable and well equipped. The shady patio area proved its worth during the heatwave and owners also allow access to their own extensive garden. Owners, Jill and Duffy, were extremely welcoming and keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay. They were on hand to give advice on local amenities if needed. Delicious home made cake and a bottle of cold lemonade ready for our arrival. A wonderful and relaxing holiday.
Ms Kelly
Don't take a big car! The cottage is in a pretty village but the lanes leading to it are extremely narrow... you get used to it though. The pub nearby (The Rock Inn) was excellent with award winning dining and Hay Tor itself was within walking distance. It's a lovely place to be. Heartily recommended.
Mr Mullard
This was an extremely comfortable cottage and we were made very welcome by the owners, who were very helpful and friendly and keen to ensure we enjoyed our stay. The location was perfect.
Mrs Robinson
The property was fabulous lovely owners next door who could not be any more accommodating. Beautiful view great pub close by could not fault this holiday cottage.
Mr Harvey
Very friendly owners, cottage clean and lovely comfy bed. Situated in a peaceful village with good walks and pub nearby.
Ms Cowan
We have had a great break, and the accommodation was first class. Jill made our stay very enjoyable - there was even a cake waiting for us, and dog treats! We couldn't have asked for a better property or host. The cottage is perfectly located - great walks are on its doorstep, and there's a pub close by too.
Mr Walker
Lovely cottage, great location in south east Dartmoor just a few hundred yards from the moors. Highly recommended!
Miss Truman
As above: Jill and Duffy were lovely hosts and went out of their way to make sure the holiday was special, especially for our little boys. The garden was like a wonderland for them to explore and being so near to magical Haytor Rocks was fantastic.
Mr Fear
Everything was absolutely fine - Jill and David were the perfect hosts and gave us the run of their garden but allowed us to get on with out holiday. well equipped, comfortable and very convenient for numerous walks and visits on Dartmoor. Also has the benefit of an excellent Inn just yards away.
Mrs Walker
Beam Ends is cosy and quaint but with good heating, shower and kitchen so an ideal base camp in the changeable weather. Nice to have friendly, helpful landlady next door keen to make out stay as comfortable as possible. Incredible location just a 10 min walk from Haytor and local pub 50m away. Can highly recommend and make sure you also visit Ullacombe Farm Shop and Cafe (0.7 miles away) as the food and cake is superb.
Mrs Cripps
This was a lovely cosy cottage and Jill and Duffy were friendly and helpful hosts. The location is lovely, in a sheltered valley just off the moor with good connections to amenities.
Mrs Barringer-Capp
I would highly recommend Beam Ends as the ideal cottage to stay in for a wonderful, relaxing holiday and the perfect location to explore Dartmoor and the surrounding area.
Prof van Elferen
Beam Ends was the best cottage we've stayed in bar none. It is very clean, comfortable and cosy, and, as it is situated right by Haytor, a fantastic starting point for Dartmoor walks. The cottage is located on a quiet road (we slept so well here!) and has amazing views. We enjoyed the cottage's well-tended garden and the house plants inside. There is a very good pub on the road and other great pubs in the vicinity. The owners were super welcoming and had left us a cream tea in the fridge as well as doggy treats for our little border terrier Trixie which was such a lovely touch. I can't recommend Beam Ends highly enough!
Mrs Turner
We would stay again without any hesitation. A lovely cottage in a great location and delightful owner.
Mr Lugthart
This is a lovely, atmospheric, house, on a great spot, with lovely owners. Jill and David were helpful when needed. Walking nearby is great. In the village is no shop, but we went to Ullacombe Farm, nearby, for organic bread, dairy, etc. The beds were good, and its great to have a nice bath. The sitting room is quite small, with the entrance door, but you can sit with 4 on the 2 sofa's. The space with the eating table is nice, with lots of light through the big skylight. Cream tea was there for a start, and a big vase with roses in our bedroom. Wonderful! Lots of love from Lex, Mirjam, Maria and Joeri.
Mrs Kershaw
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Beam Ends, lovely location within walking distance to the moor , the cottage is cosy, homely and very clean and we have to mention Jill and David who are the lovely owners, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this delightful cottage ?

Mr Balman
Very warm welcome from Jill and Duffy on arrival very beautiful location And the cottage is very comfortable all in all a superb holiday
Mrs Chapman
This is a great place to stay for a holiday. Close enough to Bovey Tracey for shopping and we tried the little community shop in Ilsington which would be great in an emergency. Walking distance to the Moor and reasonable drive to the coast, National Trust properties. The cottage has a useful utility room for boots and raincoats which we certainly needed as it rained, if only for a short time every day we were there.
Mrs Best
The cottage is situated in an amazing place. Beam Ends is a cosy, comfortable cottage which is ideal for walkers, the scenery is breathtaking. Haytor Vale is a quiet, tranquil place that we will visit again.
Mrs Earp
A wonderful spacious cottage, child and dog friendly, lovely village. Very friendly hosts who couldn't have been more accommodating. All-in-all a wonderful time had by all. Even the weather!

Beam Ends was everything we hoped for in a Devonian cottage. Just the right combination of traditional charm with modern day comfort. The location was superb, close to the moors but also towns and the sea.
Ms Proctor
Excellent location.
Mrs Allison
Lovely cottage in a beautiful but very convenient spot for visiting all parts of the moor or simply walking and with great hosts. A very good holiday away from the hustle & bustle.

What a great cottage. We had a wonderful week, helped by wonderful weather! Beam Ends was spotlessly clean, with very good bed linen and towels and well equipped kitchen. It was a pleasure to return to the cottage every day and the owners live next door and their relaxed and friendly style shows in Beam Ends. Highly recommended.
Mr West
Very comfortable and cozy cottage
Mr Blunn
Rooms were a good size. Lovely patio area and access to the garden and the valley. All appliances were in very good condition and easy to use. Lovely to have flowers and plants in the rooms. Parking was right outside. Set in a super area to explore. Village was very quiet and peaceful. We were given a very friendly welcome by Jill and David. The cottage was very comfortable and had a lovely feel to it. We all slept well and felt comfortable spending time there in poor weather. I would recommend it to others. Thank you.
Mr Coffey
It was a fantastic cottage and a brilliant location. Quiet in the Dartmoor countryside with dark skies and fresh air Perfectly relaxing. Such lovely hosts too. Helpful and friendly without being over obtrusive. Always there for you - why they even left us with a cream tea and a bottle of Prosecco to start with - and popped round with a beer on the terrace on a warm summer evening. What more could you ask for! It is a wonderful cottage. We will be back!
Ms Rolston
We loved this cottage.
Mrs Townley
Lovely cosy cottage, very helpful owners and very quiet and peaceful. Secluded but within easy reach of plenty to do.
Mr Leach
Duffy & Gill are wonderful owners and make friendly, un-intrusive neighbours. The cottage is perfect for long walks across very interesting areas of Dartmoor. The village is sweet and the shop just 5 minutes by car. The Rock Inn does excellent meals although it can work out to be more expensive than you might initially think. Fabulous area, great holiday, lovely cottage. We want to come back! Another classic holiday from Classic Cottages. Thank you.
Dr Schmidt
We enjoyed the week in Beam Ends. The well restored house with all necessary modern facilities and friendly owners was for us a very good place to explore the wonderful surronding of Hayter and Dartmoor! We can recommend this place!
